WORLD NO.1 Golf coach told me TO NEVER stand square to these shots! (pros have started doing this)

How you stand to a driver golf shot and iron golf shot has a HUGE impact on how straight you can driver or strike you irons! This is the the clever swing strategy that pros actually use and World NO.1 Golf coach Peter Cowen has recommended! Pete Cowen says I’m not a fan of perfectly square alignment for the average player because it takes a perfect shot to hit it where you’re aiming. I’d advise most amateurs to align different for irons and driver to help promote more divot strike with irons and an inside path with driver and this is something that he has told golf pros to do for SO long! Doing this will allow you to hit your driver longer and straighter and hit more green with your scoring irons

Legendary golf coach Pete Cowen has been preaching about this to so many pros for years, it’s time that amateur, mid handicap and high handicap golfers use this too! WORLD NO.1 Golf coach told me TO NEVER stand square to these shots!

here is a method all the top Pros are using and legendary coach Pete Cowen says we all should never ever stand Square now that probably goes against everything you’ve been told recently so this is exactly what he says I’m not a fan of perfect square alignment for the average player because it takes perfect shot to hit it where you’re aiming I’d advise most amateurs to align their feet a little left with their irons to help pitting down and we driver align their feet a little to the right with the club face aimed at Target to promote a swinging inside path and also hit up on the golf ball right so let’s start with an iron so think about it logically if everything was Square when you make your swing you’ve got to bring it back to the exact same point every single time perfectly if we’re trying to hit a shot shape then you’ve got a much better chance of actually executing something with a bit of a a path and face relationship that doesn’t have to be perfectly square but still allows the gold ball to end up where you’re wanting it to now let’s have a look at irons here P Cowan says he wants you to feel a little bit aiming left with our irons to encourage hitting down and into that Turf and think about it logically if our left foot is a little bit back for a right-handed golfer we got more chance of getting into that left hand side now all I would recommend doing here is and this is what I’ve said to all my students like look at my toes here right they’re both even distant from this golf club I would take your left foot now half a golf ball back just a little bit I wouldn’t want to get those feet too open but I want it to be a little bit because I want to encourage weight transfer and more importantly opening up of these hips and having those feet slightly displaced will help you do that and there is a strong correlation between more weight transfer more opening up our low Point gets ahead and that allows us to hit down the ball so all I would do is follow this simple routine I’ve got six IR for reference here address your golf ball just place your hands on the golf club as I have here and you’ll notice my feet so my toes my knees my hips and my shoulders are all running absolutely parallel to this line on the floor all I want you to do is feel this pull the left foot back slightly and it’s just that little minuscule like this you can see that from player cam all I’m doing is is literally that little move tiny little bit my club face is aiming down towards Target possibly a little bit left and all I’m learning here is a little bit of an open foot allows me to hit down down on that golf ball through and hit shots just like that so think about it slightly ever so slightly open feet more into that left hand side and really really just do it a tiny bit I’m not asking for a lot just a little bit of open feet will allow you to work more comfortably into that left hand side right let’s move on to driver now but before we move on to driver I really feel this is a good time to remind you that this channel is powered by you yes all your questions power me and these videos So today we’re answering this question right here this is from Rudy he says I’m not understanding why you wouldn’t strive for a perfect shot and perfect alignment to start with seems like embracing a bad habit usually leads to another now I get it I really get that but what I want you to look at here Rudy is the fact and actually all of us if I got perfect square alignment what are the chances of me bringing this golf club Back Square and perfect every time I want you to think about making a face to path relationship and having that slight feet displacement will really help that but that slight open stance with an eyeon we want to get the benefits of allowing you to transfer the weight getting to the left hand side and hit down more think about less logically if you’re trying to hit the perfect shot it’s actually really hard working towards a path to face relationship is a little bit easier because the GOL ball is on the inside of us and we swing this golf club on an arc around our body it’s not straight up and down here if it was there then yeah of course we would work for a perfectly straight shot but because we’re on an incline plane in a circle around us working like this with driver like this with irons is far more favorable right let’s talk now let’s talk driver when you start doing this you’re going to be so much more comfortable so what we’re looking for is a set up like that now you’ll notice my left foot is actually turned out slightly my right foot is nice and sort of well I would say Square I like to turn into this but that is the placement I would have let’s give you a routine to follow out on the golf course which will take no time at all and we’ll hit shots just like that and come on look at this shot right here what we capable of 266 carry 288 distance ball speed 153 if if I took this as air we find every time and so for one thing I’d be absolutely over the moon now I’ve just brought an extra Golf Club in here and I’m going to move that out the way shortly but this is going to really help me show you what I mean by that club face and feet alignment think about your feet as controlling your path and where we set your Club face helps set that compensatory difference to create curvature on the golf ball so let’s just start off firstly with nice and square alignment in fact I’m going to pull that a little closer so you can see this a little easier so if I start right here nice perfect square alignment you’ll see this gol Club on the floor and this golf club right here are running in two parallel lines and my toes are equal distance away from this golf club what I need you to feel right here is that we’re going to pull our right foot back by one golf ball so we should be able to get a golf ball just in here you’ll also notice my foot is a little bit FL just a little bit like this just helps those hips turn out the way so your first stage is done so with my right foot pulled back I’ve still got my hands on the golf club in the original position I will then really feel I make this final change just loosen that grip pressure slightly so your hands are off the golf club and Tuck that right shoulder in a little bit more you’ll notice now if I hold this golf club up to you look how this golf club now is a little bit closed and my grip is neutral relative to me this helps create that disparity between face and path so my routine on the golf course looks very much like this I aim square hands on right foot back left foot fled hands and grip off pull the shoulder in grip back on that helps create that disparity look my left hand it’s nice and neutral relative to me but if I lower this Golf Club face look how the golf club is slightly square and this is what Pete Cowan said with driver they should align their feet a bit to the right with their Club face still aimed at Target this will promote swinging from the inside and hitting up on the golf ball so think about this logically we moved the right foot back that’s helping you swing a little bit more from the inside I then took that right shoulder back and loosen that grip and then regain that grip to help a closed Club face relative to my path and where I’m swinging keeping the club face essentially pointing at Target because look if I move my right foot and my shoulder look where the golf club points it points to the right of that club it’s not what we want to do is it that’s pointing way right of Target so going through that order of right foot back take grip pressure off right shoulder regain your grip look how my club face stays pointing straight down that Target it’s a real simple real easy method to do and something that should become just automatic for you out on the golf course let me just show you how quick this can be I would literally walk in like this address the golf ball take your grip get nice and square to start with just like that right foot back one Gul ball left foot fled hands off shoulder in hands back on look at that ball flight an effortless draw I’m working towards a shot I’m not trying to make perfect square alignment every time and look how far this one has just got look at that shape you can see the curve and that is working towards a shot trying to hit it dead straight in my opinion is the worst thing we could ever do 265 carry we’ve got 30 yards of roll out ball speed a little more something I know we all want to see promise me you’re going to work that way promise me you’re going to use this simple advice and I honestly think I don’t think actually I know you’ll play your best golf this summer thanks so much for watching and don’t forget 1. weird for irons i thought a left foot back will encourage a more over the top outside in path which i struggle.. i thought i ended to do the opposite, which is which hehe

  2. Great video! So looking at my whole set of clubs, I now hit my iron & hybrids out of an open stance and my driver and fairway woods out of a closed stance. What a difference it has made in my contact, consistency, and accuracy. Thanks!

  3. @alexelliottgolf i went out yesterday after work, tried these setups and damn…i was hitting much straighter balls more consistently. Thanks for the help!!

  4. I used this today Alex and hit the ball the best of 2024 so far! Thx! I have a question for your channel. I STRUGGLE when have a dogleg L and I hit ball to middle/ right part of fairway and have to hit it back to the left. It feels like I’m hitting ACROSS my body and often I flare it R or hit a push slice. I’m thinking it’s alignment issue but don’t know how to fix/help myself. Brian in Pennsylvania USA

  5. Another fantastic video. Alex when you open the stance with irons – what is your weight distribution? 50/50 or more 60/40 on left?

  6. Alex – best lesson ever.!!!… I'm 80 and have lost some flexibility- this lesson has been able to change everything for the good for both my irons and driver… could you expand for the fairway woods – ball and foot posutioning.. looking forward to seeing your next lesson.!!!.. Thanks Bob Mahnke

  7. Pete Cowan and Ben Hoga, in his book, subscribe to this foot adjustment.

Thanks Alex for refreshing everyone's memory. Little things like this help greatly.

    Love all your content

  8. love this. i have been finding success with rotating my grip as you suggest. i have bene aiming myself right but work with my upper body, i cant wait to pull that right foot back and see what happened. i will also try the opposite with the irons.

  9. Ok Alex , I get the concept, tried it and for driver, and irons they work like a charm. However, I hook the living daylights out of my 5 hybrid. Iron, or wood stance? Help!

  10. I have 80% a litle slice on the end off balflight witb my driver. And lost 2 zbots every time with this. Can you help me to turn it right or a litle draw
