now are moving back into the Premier League if you like exactly where Oxford United would like to be maybe in 12 months time the news broke and I was absolutely stunned by Roberto derer is set to leave Brighton and hve ALB and that was released around about three and a half hours ago something along those lines let’s go and speak talk sports Chief football correspondent Alex crook he joins now one of the first to break the news good evening Alex good evening never a quiet day is there never quiet day in football mate that’s how we make our money here at talks Ball but I’ve got to tell you matey when I saw that message come through to me and had your name attached to it I was absolutely shocked or should I have not been um I think if you look back over the last few weeks and months and maybe it’s not as big a surprise as it felt I think the timing was slightly surprising 24 hours before their final game of the season against Manchester United he did a press conference to Zerby as recently as yesterday and there was no real hint that this could be his last game in charge I spoke to him after their game against Chelsea in midweek and he was talking about pre-season and building for next season so I do think it’s a it’s a fairly recent development in terms of uh conversation has been had with the owner Tony Bloom and I think it’s been decided amicably that now is the time to part ways I’m not sure that deserie has always been massively in favor of the way that that Brighton do their transfer business he feels that maybe he should get more of a say and it should be done in a slightly different way but Brighton’s model has been really successful to this point so they’re not going to change it for for any manager um and I think that’ll be the case for whoever comes in so I think that’s been a big issue over the course of the last few months there were some comments that he made in press conferences suggesting maybe that the the football club’s Ambitions didn’t match his own I think when a manager starts talking in those terms there’s only going to be one winner and that that’s always going to be the owner that the person who who pays the check so I think in some ways it has been coming but the timing is a surprise but I think what’s positive from both Sid is that derer will go out with his head held high he’ll get a brilliant sendoff from the fans tomorrow I’m sure Brighton will beat Manchester United the players will be determined to send him out in the grand Manner and he’ll be welcome back at the AMX any time so I guess if you’re going to if you’re going to part company it’s a bit like a marriage isn’t it if you see maybe the writing is on the wall then perhaps it’s it’s best to it’s best to get a divorce when you’re still on terms that when you’re at each other’s throats right okay so that’s one way I looking when I first saw it I I wonder whether derer had been tapped up whether there have been other clubs there were a number of football clubs around uh not just this country Europe potentially Manchester United Bayern Munich there’s all sorts of rumors knocking around at my club Chelsea at the moment are you saying that that has no influence on this decision for both of the the part ways sources close to the Zerby are Adam and that he’s not held he talks with any other football clubs at this moment in time I think he had too much respect for Tony Bloom and for Brighton to to do that so I understand we’re all cynics in this game aren’t we but I think genuinely this is a mutual consent decision and it’s interesting there were a lot of reports in Germany once that announcement was made that potentially he could end up Bayern Munich that’s been ruled out in the last few minutes by their sporting director he’s been asked will your new manager be an Italian and he said no so I don’t think the deser it at this stage has a job to go to and in fact another source has suggested to me that maybe he might take a break from football altogether we know how demanding the job is particularly the Premier League we know how demanding his personality is so maybe he does need a rest so at the moment I don’t think he has got another job lined up should he go into another job though despite the fact his contract has been terminated no pay off to him which again is very unusual Jason you know that a manager walks away from two years worth of money which is what he had left on his contract but if he was to pitch up at another club anytime soon there would be some compensation due to Brighton but it wouldn’t be anywhere near that the 12 million EUR that if he was still under the contract the clubs would have had to pay for his Services cookie we’ve there’s been rumors that um Brighton will will interested in I switch is McKenna um we were discussing this earlier saying would it be a good move for him or or should he stay at IP switch I think first and foremost there’s substance to those rumors I think McKenna is exactly the type of coach Co that Tony Bloom would be impressed with I think he’d score very highly on the analytics that bloom uses to pick managers and from what I’m told I think it’s an opportunity that McKenna May well fancy now that might seem a little bit harsh on ipswitch toown having just got them into the Premier League via backto back promotions but maybe he’ll take a look at what Vincent company couldn’t do at Burnley uh with a style of play that he wanted to implement in the Premier League I don’t know if IPS Rich are going to necessarily go and spend big money this summer so he may feel that if he gets an opportunity to jump up a few runs on the ladder it’s an opportunity that he has to take again no doubt Brighton will be inundated as clubs always are when they Park company with managers in the Premier League with agents trying to push forward the claims of their client Tony Bloom will know who he wants it was the same when gr Potter went to Chelsea if you remember they moved very quickly to secure the services of derer there will be an outstanding candidate and it wouldn’t surprise me if it is Kieran McKenna is that a step up in your opinion crook because I’m not convinced it is a massive step yeah I think when you look at the structure of the football club uh Brighton made record record profits last year more than any team in the history of the Premier League financially they’re on a really sound footing I think Roberto derer despite the fact recent form hasn’t been good as has put together a squad that they feel is capable of competing for Europe next season with the greatest one in the world you can’t see it switch challenging for a Europa League place I think the best they can hope for is to is to survive in in the Premier League I think it’s a great opportunity for McKenna I’m not saying that to disrespect him in any ways but I think you couldn’t pick a more stable football club than Brighton a g manag at this moment in time but would you just say it’s very risky for Brighton like I said right now they are stable they’re comfortably a top 10 team um and maybe let’s go let’s go back to Wembley camon is it sorry Cameron bran with the Moose I am indeed cam you’re one of the players of the season for Oxford what was that like today ah moose I can’t Point into words I feel and I swear I can’t um I’ve never been this Gob smacked in my life I’ll be honest I I can’t I don’t know what to say it feels weird um this moment just means so much to me in this this fan base um and these players and staff every single one of us that moment you can’t you can’t really put into words um first time in 25 years this club’s been at the second tier I hav’t got signed here 78 years ago and that was my aim um and to say I’ve done that honestly like I can’t Point into words how much it means to me moose um and I’m sure we’re all going to enjoy tonight and we certainly will as players I know the fans will they were fantastic today they got right behind us like they always do and next year we’re playing championship football I was going to say first of all how good was Josh and secondly what are you most looking forward to in playing in the championship which team to be honest team that’s that’s irrelevant at this moment in time Josh Murphy today while I mean what a player and to have him the way he stepped up today just shows how much of a player he is and we all know that um that was a special moment for M today I said that to him when he scored I told him it was his day and it is his day and it’s everyone’s day but them moments are massive um to score two goals at Wembley to send us up to the champ no better feeling than that so not a bad belated birthday present for you honestly like I said we get it yeah it is I I dream to this moment a few weeks ago and I did say to a few people look it’s going to happen I believed it I know the boys did there’s no better feeling this Legend Cameron bran you’re a championship player well done yeah mate thank you there you go Jay Cameron bran of Oxford top man moose congratulations to him if you’re leaving wemy 0371 7234 with you’re an Oxford fan or a Bolton fan that’s the number to call 0371 7234 crookie I’m so sorry had to cut across you we have to disappear right now appreciate your time have a fabulous weekend and we’ll catch you you soon Buddy cheers guys have a good show Cheers matey uh that was Alex crook broke the news earlier here on talk sports saying that Roberto derer is leaving it would appear by Mutual consent after the game tomorrow at home to Manchester United his destination right now is not clear apparently it would have feel as though both parties felt it was the best way to just park company 03 71723 Devol Brighton fans what do you think of that what do you want next 03 71723 this is kickoff live here on talksport on am on da via the talk sport app and on your smart speaker talk sport

  1. you mean he read the statement and claimed he got his own sources lol
alex Brooks knows nothing he no difference to sky kavler!

  2. Crooks done a good job and sat on the fence with the things heโ€™s said, all most likely correct but if anyone thinks McKennaโ€™s going to leave this summer then they will be disappointed me thinks

  3. Hope Brighton get relegated next season. They've punched above their weight for too long and think theyre better than they actually are!

  4. Why woul Ipswich coach want to join Brighton whens hes just gone B2B promotions? He will atleast give it one season before jumping ship.

  5. How on earth does Crook get a job as a chief correspondent? H'e nothing but a loudmouthed, reactive mug. Plus – here's your 1st prem club with an open position for a manager since Moyes was sacked so is talkshite's mate 'Moysey' (who will have top clubs banging on his door for his services remember) being lined up for the job at Brighton? No? Thought as much ๐Ÿ˜‚

  6. De zerbi has been sacked. Call it mutual termination, but his push for one of the "big' jobs in the middle of the season has caused brighton to have a rethink.

  7. You can't take away the keeper and your two best midfielders and somehow expect progress. On top of that mitoma has been injured for last parts. ultimately Brighton are the latest Southampton. sooner or later, the replacement for players sold won't live up to standard and you'll tumble down the league. finished below palace as well.

  8. it's not that hard to understand. De Zerbi wants to compete. Brighton want to develop and sell. It's two different philosophies. Brighton sold De Zerbi's midfield for amount of 150mil. What in the world did they do with that money? Honestly. They are a feeder club and that is their priority that is all. De Zerbi's priority isn't playing to sell. It's simply a difference of philosophies.

  9. Maybe he realised that his ambitions and that of Brighton are very different. The club wants to be feeder club for other clubs, while he wants to compete for trophies.

  10. I DSAGREE WITH CROOKY WITH A FEW ADDITIONS I THINK IPSWICH ARE MORE THAN CAPABLE OF A TOP 6 THEY DID IT 20 ODD YEARS AGO UNDER GEORGE BURLEY AND I THINK THIS CURRENT CROP IS BETTER THAN BURLEYS TEAM I MEAN APART FROM THE TOP 3 MAYBE CHELSKI ITS VERY DOABLE SPURS ARE TOO FLAKEY VILLA WILL BE THERE A COUPLE OF OTHERS MAYBE ITS UP FOR GRABS ABSOLUTELY IM A FOREST FAN SO IM JUST RECOVERING FROM THIS AWFUL SEASON SURVIVED BY THE HAIR OF OUR HAIRS CANT WAIT FOR NEXT SEASON ALREADY CHEERS ALL ๐ŸŽธ๐Ÿค˜โšฝ๐Ÿฅ…๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡นโ™ฅ๏ธ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ™
