Johnson Wagner is down at the 15 TOS couple of big moments down there Johnson uh what do you have for us tonight well first of all I just want to give another shout out to John Ballard the superintendent here at Valhalla and his whole crew met another assistant tonight by the name of Payton hobby he’s been here two years you guys have no idea I’m sure you have an idea but the viewers at home what it takes to make a major championship golf course look the way this place does is is amazing and it’s it’s a huge team but where I’m at right now over the back of the 15th green uh we’ve got a pretty bad lie here where Xander Cha’s ball came and by the way Xander’s in the position he is he is number one in driving accuracy he’s number sixth in Strokes gained approach and this was one of his only few mistakes he’s made this week he made one bogey on Friday on the 11th hole par three he three puted and then today he made double here and he had a really bad LIE there’s a lot of risk of going Beyond The Green from this angle there’s a penalty area over there so he was just simply trying to chip it I believe to give himself a a makeable chip for his for his par I think he could have probably gotten it to the front edge of the green and two puted but he thought this would have been the easier shot in my opinion but tonight I’m going to take it on uh see if I can’t pull it off and keep it on the green here this tall fescue grass is thick you could see on the well that wasn’t too thick cuz it didn’t go down in there but you could see on the replay of xanders how much the club just got stopped by this stuff oh um and that was a tow shank officially uh the club This Grass just grabbed the club completely um I’m going to need a little break here and I’m before I get over to sahis I did a walkand talk with him Wednesday and he described how he hits lies just like this do you play this kind of like a bunker shot or yes a little bit like a bunker shot um I think the difference this week is it’s going to be really easy to go under the ball um so I’m going to choke up a little bit and almost try and hit not the equator of the ball but kind of have that feeling rather than just getting Steep and under it cuz you catch it really high on the face and it just kind of exactly yeah there’s a lot of cushion Under This Grass so um like even this one like the speed needs to be kept up and um it’s funny on a shot like this all with this grass I’m trying to hit it harder than I would think initially like int intuitively I want to hit it a certain way but I’m going to try and hit a little higher than that just because of the scass beautiful and so we’re out here now sah had a really nice lie over the back of the green obviously we just saw that he hold it Xander made double it was a huge change and col Mor CWA by the way hit it in there six feet and finally made a putt one thing that blows my mind about SI thala is his rhythm off the ball and the way he releases his hands he’s allowed to have so much speed on a shot like this I got a little tighter grip pressure and a little uh more uh more wrist action or the other way but shout out to Aaron badley he gave me a lesson via text the other night so we’re going to see if it’ll uh if it’ll pay off here sah rhythm is so smooth and he made such a big swing only having the ball about six yards oh well we’ve got the toe shank we’ve got the heel shank it’s just a Saturday night at the PGA Championship guys I just can we tomorrow we got to get a five r or something I love it I love it these These are tough shots very I’m Ling with you PA and by way great get was saw hit the other day really love your walking talks you said I mean Aaron Bradley’s one of the great chippers the Australians are great chippers tell us what he said via text um Johnson I’m interested to hear how he likes to play them thank you Paul so well uh the other night he he took a picture of my back swing and it was right here and he sent me a picture of someone that chips well and their back swing was here so he just he just wanted me to get my hands more or the club had more outside my hands as opposed to way inside like that so uh I’m looking forward to getting home in a couple days and um you know curing this before we get to the US open at Pinehurst but fortunately Us open at Pinehurst I’ll be able to describe how Martin kimer played it uh from off the greens with putter in my hand yeah you do a lot of bump and runs at Pinehurst uh spent some time we saw with with saw on Monday what else did you learn uh not simply from sath but but about sath and and here he is Johnson uh right in the thick of it just one shot back yeah it was on Wednesday and he is just such a funloving guy we we had so much fun I walked with him for a couple holes before we did our walk and talk and I hadn’t really spent much time around him so uh his his personality is infectious he smiles a lot he has fun on the golf course he can occasionally get a little hot under the collar but what professional golfer can’t um I I I just was always a fan of his now I mean even bigger fan and when I get up to golf Central Studios next week I’m going to start a sahala fan club and I I plan on being the president
