Be aware of different types of sand. Some bunkers are fluffy and soft while others are firm. A bunker with soft sand will allow the sole of your club to penetrate which will require an open clubface. A bunker with firm sand will bounce off the sand which requires more of a square clubface.

the other thing you always have to take into account is how thick is the sand I’m hitting out of when the sand gets heavier my 60 doesn’t work just goes too deep just too deep firm sand like this would you still always 56 I still would hit 56 I just wouldn’t hit it as hard if you get kind of down where we are in the bottom of a bunker sometimes it’ll be a little bit harder because when they rake the bunkers they pull all the fluffy stuff to the edges right so the bottom can be hard sometimes a little bit harder right so like if we go up here and I hit into this sand there’s a lot of sand up there I go back here and hit that you can see the brown sand versus up there is still mostly white white yeah

For 2 seasons straight, my job was to rake bunkers. I used a small tractor (Toro Sand Pro). The idea is to rake away from the edges into the middle to keep the sand even, then hand rake the edges from the inside up the sloped edges. My bunkers NEVER had noticeable varying depth.
