the star of a future show leave your name where you are in the review keep those reviews coming please they’re very very important so let’s have some more reviews press that five star button on Spotify as well right so where have we been recently chap I’m I’m trying to get my head around this we went to did we go to Oregon was the last one or we had Manchester in England Oregon I think we had was it Las Vegas as well or St Louis something like that we’re now off to Canada Ontario to be precise and this is from Tyson in Ontario five stars from Canada Steve Paul and Barry share spectacularly through thorough and well researched picks on the PGA and DP World Tour I used the Pod to get prepped for watching and betting the weekend’s PGA Tour event their background on each respective course and how it correlates to players successes is second to none I’m very I’m a very casual better but these guys make me feel like a sharp when I’m laying down a couple of loonies and Tunis each weekend it’s an every week listen for me and not just in the background I carve out time to listen to the analysis and come away smarter for it keep it up Lads that’s from Tyson in Ontario Canada thank you Tyson brilliant stuff yeah thanks Tyson hopefully we can uh help continue to make you sharper and sharper cheers Tyson yeah multiply some loonies but please don’t listen to me if you haven’t yeah I’m I’m one of the worst anti- heaters of all time well at the end of 305 we were talking about the worlds Fargo and you guys left me with two bets to ponder over Paul said I think Rory M the favorite’s going to win and I was like yeah I was listening to Paul going actually this all makes perfect sense this guy always weak you know the his win percentage the week before a major is unbelievably strong d d da and then you started talking about sah toala I’m thinking yeah he’s 28 to1 I said that’s not a bad price on sah been playing Great Golf blah blah blah blah blah got decision to make who’s going to replace ludvic oberg who’s just wded and I oh I’m going to go for tala Q7 is it 84 in in round on Saturday you chose so poorly Steve you like you you fomed yourself into picking tala because you were afraid that he actually would do well and you had been picking him yeah Paul congratulations on your winning bet with Rory maroy no listen at the end of the day if you pick the favorite and you go heavy on that and he was my only my only bet on tournament we have got better at that on this podcast though Paul I did it with Sheffer you you hit early last year with ram we used to just ignore them and go hopefully they don’t win but sometimes we now pick them and they can win yep which is better than a lot of loss bets yeah absolutely and uh you know the manner in which he achieved that win on Sunday yeah and I know he’s up against Xander and we’ve talked at length about Xander and uh you know the the the pressure and the heat of a Sunday and how he’s Mina kind of gets more and more negative but Rory won that Rory won that with a fantastic final what had 11 holes wasn’t it from the eighth onwards he just put on those afterburners absolutely blew Xander Away really impressive and sets him up for a big week this week potentially what did he do when he won here in 2014 from memory I’m asking that cuz I know the answer but he yeah it was the Open Championship yeah Open Championship WGC Bridgestone at Acron wasn’t it and then then one here at Valhalla so winning I know that Zu classic and there there’ll be people poo pooing that as a you know a pair’s winner you know it doesn’t count as much as a regular win but you could see from the body language after that and the reaction after that how much it meant to Rory to to get a win and uh then he’s just uh escalated in terms of form last week particularly on Sunday and the question is has he peaked or is he in the process of peaking because if he’s in the process of peing then this week is um is pretty critical to that process just to put mooy’s 26th PJ tour win into some kind of context this doesn’t put it into any kind of context at all he’s actually tied now with Henry peckard with 26 PGA T wins um that’s t22 all time on the PJ tour that puts him above players of the ilk of Tommy Arma Johnny Miller Gary Player Raymond Floyd Davis Love III Halo Owen Greg Norman Ben crenchaw Ernie eles you know this is is pretty stunning stuff and it’s not as if he’s going to stop winning anytime soon is it no doesn’t look like it seems to have his Mojo back right now which is which makes him a dangerous dangerous player VJ sing is on 34 just looking for players you know further up the list who have been relatively recent players on the PJ so it’s a sing at 34 and then you take a big old jump to Phil Mickelson on 45 clearly I’m not stating the obvious one at the very top some career um Dustin Johnson on 24 I don’t think that tally is going to be added to very quickly on the PGA to a front uh yeah complete um I had a great weekend actually I went to my uh nephew’s wedding had a good time and it was it was quite good because I could actually I just flicked onto the PJ to a leaderboard and I’m he started in fifth didn’t he tigara I thought you know he might have a chance to have a good eway place or maybe put some pressure on the two at the top and uh I I was you know I got to about 15th Place and I’m thinking this isn’t going well and uh I just open he was six over at that point I just said to my misses I just said another one of my players shooting six over on a Saturday she said well Steve what’s new anyway but she did say I’ll go and get you a pint I’m like yes that’s my that is the correct answer the correct answer have you unlocked the cheat code to getting Pine brought to you when you’re watching TV what following following your tips well that no we just say oh another one of my bets failed and she’s like oh Steve sad I’m going to make him happy BR bringing him a pint yeah I can pick good I can pick I can pick losers as for myself Barry I don’t need to follow you broke I broke so many golfers last week on over on Myrtle Beach like semi and etaria like both immediately dead just I it was a spectacular week I have to say Chris gotter up wasn’t one that would have ever hit my radar Paul that was that was your event last week did Chris got her up appear on anything for you only in the power side of things and if You’ have um if You’ have been quite blinkered in terms of your approach to it in ter you know in that um Power was going to be the absolute key critical stat for that and um you start your analysis from there then gotra would have been right at the top of your list he’s an elite driver absolutely um but yeah again it was in the end it was just a procession from him it was you know gets his gets his win and um LIF left everyone else in their wake I I had high hopes for Alex SMY who was in consent at halfway fourth after 36 drifted a little bit was still sixth after 54 so you know hoping if nothing else that he could uh he could find a Sunday to get me an each way Place Henrik norlander was just a couple of shots below below that 100 to one as well so yeah I was kind of going into Sunday hoping that I’d get something but you know even though it was the PJ tour it reminded me very much of a DP World Tour Sunday from uh from my selections when they just absolutely trod water for Sunday and did nothing both finished T20 which having been backed norlander on Bermuda grass many many times if he gets into contention he bottles it on a Sunday and if you’re not on him and he he’ll shoot like a 64 on Sunday and get right to close to the top of the leaderboard that’s that’s how Henrik operates yeah yeah we’re kind of sitting in 15th going into the final day it did tear up for one you know a kind of a 65 or something in that bracket to to get himself into the each way places he shot one under yeah it it was possible but just just didn’t happen no but well well there were a few gup um backers I saw dotted around on social media so well done if you picked him up 50 to one or thereabouts I think um so yeah nice win for for some interesting to see mckintyre at the top of the leaderboard for a chunk of that and also decent outings for Eric again Eric Van royan uh Ryan Fox to be fair looking back at Ryan Fox he was 70 to1 for that that’s a big price for someone that was ranked in the top 50 in the world yep Wentworth winner last year he’s better than that and haate campio got his first top five on the PJ tour I think it as a rule that the the 10 guys that have gone over from the DP well tour a lot of them I mean even pham’s had a sec they’ve all had decent top five finishes at some point yep and you saw the round from theion Elson on Sunday as well he shot 10 under but boy 310 under to you know he didn’t get into the into the paying places but absolutely flew through the leaderboard these guys are just getting the head around it and I don’t know if you caught any of the commentary around um McIntyre where he talked about being lonely um coming over and you know it’s a big upheaval both um you know both both mentor end in a from a you know kind of a a personal perspective to to up sticks and uh and try try and give it a go over on the PJ t for the first year yeah yeah especially for Robert who’s a good open boy and likes his shinty blah blah blah blah blah I thought that jump to living in Florida is is like sort of moving to Mars but yes they’re getting their head round it slowly should we talk K PJ Championship that’s what that’s why everybody’s here y right I’m going to start with a bookmaker that I think has done an outstanding job from what I’m seeing on the odds charts um one firm jumped out and naturally all the prices I’m about to quote are at the time of podcast recording we’re recording this early Tuesday Morning in the UK bet Fred are hanging a standout 16 to1 on Xander schaffler and 10 places each way at 50 odds with the same place terms he’s just 10 10 to one at Patty power right now I’m also thinking there will be plenty of support this week for benan now Ben AR when I looks at the stats for this he’s absolutely perfect he’s long he’s relatively straight he’s got a great T to Green game at the moment you can back him right now with bet Fred at 60 to1 in their default 10 places each way market listen to this he’s just 33 to1 with Betfair Sportsbook so that’s just showing you some of the value that bet Fred are offering this week now statistically and results wise I was also drawn during my research to Alex naren and Dean Boma from Liv who have both been ripping it up on their respective tours bet Fred are both a market best 125 to one and you’re get in 10 places with that so Market best price and 10 places to highlight the value both are 80 to one with bet Fair sports book currently if you’re 18 plus in the UK and do not have a bet Fred Sportsbook account you can find details of their brand new bet10 get 50 in free bets and bonuses new custom promotion plus a link through to that very author with T’s and C’s near the top of this podcast description don’t forget to use the bonus code I was going to come to you Paul but you probably wouldn’t know it the bonus code welcome 50 when registering welcome 50 when registering so yeah they really good effort I think this week bet for 10 places each way and Market leading prices with that as well it’s pretty incredible yeah no really good i’ I’ve used them for um actually I used them for all of my long shots given the uh did the combination of uh prices and places so yeah really good uh I ref refer you to episode 306 you want lots of details trends for the PGA Championship and lots of information on the course one thing that has come out well two things actually extreme extr tight Landing areas on a 7,600 plus length golf course very very tight I mean some of these holes on Long PA ORS of like 500 yards are 18 to 20 yard wide at 300 yards carry that’s pretty pretty incredible so long and straight this this week guys long and straight never a bad mix is it no also Barry mentioned this and it is happening right now it would appear to be raining right now in Kentucky and we did say on the research podcast that they’d had quite a lot of rain in the buildup as well uh not only is it raining now but apparently when you look at the forecast the dreaded forecast which I’m looking at now it looks like it could be raining on Friday from 6 a.m. onwards when I say 6:00 a.m. I’m only picking that out because that’s the first precipitation rate of 60% that is going to actually happen in the afternoon that turns to thunderstorms and 80% probability so we could have a situation here chaps and listeners where we’re not going to see any action Friday afternoon yeah now PJ Championship does that follow a PJ tour kind of format of Am Pm splits rather than a kind of Master’s Blended approach yeah yeah I think it does doesn’t it yep so we could see a situation here where one side of the draw could potentially be turning up on a Saturday morning to play their second round or part of their second round with a very very very soft golf course and not particularly strong wins the winds are freshened actually I’ve got to say I wouldn’t say that it’s I mean Thursday’s dead Thursday is going to be scoring day uh Friday clearly lots of rain it’s gusting to to 16ish those those uh those gusting 15 to 20s look like they’re both in play for Saturday and Sunday it’s not it’s not strong wins but it’s breezes that will cause players to sort of back off of balls potentially and just wait for the right win for the right number they’re trying to shoot just that nagging kind of wind and it’s from different directions as well Friday from the southwest Saturday from the south Sunday from the Northwest so a complete so not complete but getting getting on for 180° change in the winds on the on the final Sunday all in all though I just think it’s your it’s your typical PJ Championship challenge long hard 4 in of rough very close to Fairways and there is a lot of rough surrounding these green complexes that are very small at 5,000 square feet on average featuring B grass greens and let’s not forget the zoa Fairways which as we know AR to a lot of players likings I don’t know about you I I get a kind of I kind I get a kind of Winged Foot US Open kind of feel to this where you’ve either got to be extremely long off the two and we’re all going to be in the rough together but I’d rather be in the rough 30 or 40 yards further than other players and I can come out of that rough with with you know with shorter clubs into these into these small greens or you’ve literally got to be Iron straight like a Colin Mara Cara type iron straight hitting 80% of your Fairways that actually brings into to play a player like sep ster at the moment who is driving the ball so sweetly so accurately and he’s moderate in length he can actually get it out there 320 when he when he really opens it up it’s those kind of players that can gain lots of Strokes off the tea as well just to throw this out there as well this was something I didn’t bring up at on the res on the research podcast if I take Oak Hill Southern Hills Beth pagee black and B ree which for me are re very recent particularly PJ Championship venues long Parkland blah blah blah blah blah and just look at the winning uh look at the way that the winners broke down in terms of Strokes gained seventh Thro the te which as you would expect is very very strong 13th for approach 23rd for around the green fifth for TAA green 21st for putting proper ball Strikers long off the te good approach play get yourself into some decent positions on those greens I think we’re all hacking out of this deep rough which takes a lot of that creativity away that we discussed on the research podcast this is going to be completely atypical of what we see at pineer number two for the US Open where it’s going to be short grass around the greens and it’s going to be who’s most creative around them Scotty Sheffer territory um this is complete sort of antipathy of that is just hacking out a thick rough and then make some PS play P let’s play chaps major championship golf this week strategy missing in the right spots aiming for the middle of the greens not chasing pins and making scores on the holes that you’re comfortable about doing now that is this week to a te and I think ultimately you’re going to have to be a bomber to win it I think the challenge will be that this is a a long long course combined with that um narrowness as you described of the fairways so you know you’re talking about players who could contend or Arrow straight but are they going to be able to be that straight and that far enough up the fairways to to give himself a decent chance of you know of scoring on some of these holes is I I can see your parallel there with wing foot in in that you know it could be a bomb and gouge exercise and for players who can get away with it was oill that different either really cuz it was all at the top of the lead it was I was watching a bit of that it was heavy as well and it’s making me think of Winged Foot Beth in Beth Page or sorry not Winged Foot in Beth Page same thing soft a sin as well at the start soft yeah just dirty heavy rough like just get it as far you know no matter how accurate you are you’re still going to miss fairies so distance just is so beneficial when you do eventually miss one it is it’s Beth pige black it’s oakill from last year you know the the penalty of missing Fairways last year was pretty you know if you worked out on a percentage basis I bet if you were missing Fairways straight away you were adding half a shot to your average score on that hole it was pretty penal stuff this is no different and apparently when you look at on Twitter and the and and the coverage that’s already coming from Kentucky lots and lots of players are spending tons of time chipping from the greens around the greens because they know that they’re going to I think the G numbers this week are going to be pretty pretty low Y which could bring a magic beans McKenzie Hughes Denny McCarthy saw into the mix for a top 10 finish did you notice how they crept up the board when qu Hollow started to get firm and fiery over the weekend yeah yeah it’s possible and again you go back to 2014 you you saw a real mix of um players in the in the final leaderboard yeah strong Putters too yeah yeah yeah you know you had Rory up there at the top as we know but you still had the likes of Phil Mickelson there um and you know the game’s very very different between the the way that those two played it but between all of the players at the top and we touched on this in the research pod the greens and regulation number back then was generally in the 60s um so players were missing a lot of greens then and had to find a way to get themselves up and down and yeah it will probably be a similar kind of uh conundrum this week I expect I’m trying to cast my mind back a few weeks to the auster and and as that stood all the talk pre-event was SC Sheffer in like just ridiculously good form um and when you were picking through the other Runners and Riders there was nobody within the chasing pack that was really in great Nick apart from potentially Windam Clark who’d never played Augusta you had Xander who Xander and of course you had wacky nean who had been tearing it up on live those were the three names that people were saying well they’re probably the closest in terms of form to to giving Scotty a run for his money this week I think move forward this month and this is what I love about golf all of a sudden the landscape completely changes we’ve now got Scotty Sheffer he’s nine to2 in a few spots generally four to one to win this clearly the most outstanding pro golfer at the moment but you’ve now got Rory on a tear you’ve got Brooks kept coming off a win on in Liv in Singapore and you’ve got some players just in the slipstream who are in half decent Nick Xander again ludvig again John Rams very consistent Bryson D Shambo marab has been playing good golf Max Hol has been playing good golf that’s on top of wacky nean who consistently is just churning sort of Strokes gain positive rounds of two 2.2 each round plays it’s just you know phenomenal performance there’s a lot of players in really good niit coming into this so I’m very hopeful that we’re going to have a fantastic tournament and a really good finish on Sunday that’s what I’m hoping for what about you guys yeah it does um it does set up nicely there were question marks against a few of those guys um Ludy goerg was um was seen on the course yesterday um but uh still not 100% with his knee by the reports that were starting to come through okay um which could be a u could be a concern if you were looking to to back him but you never quite know you know if he managed to get himself round the uh the practice round um despite being in a bit of discomfort then the guy’s got the talent to to contend I expect Scotty um whilst there’s not been a an official announcement of the birth um I guess by the fact that he’s here and he’s got a press conference this afternoon so I expect we’ll find out fully then um what’s what’s happened but the fact that he’s here would suggest everything’s gone to gone to plan but how much has he had how much you know golf as he played over the last few days while he’s been focusing on that potentially there’s you know there there’s question marks there and you can see he’s drifted a little bit in the market hasn’t he he was four to one solidly when we recorded the pre pod and um drifted out half a point now so so yeah but other than that there are plenty of candidates and Xander’s horribly short price but he’s been playing some good stuff and could fill one of those top six eight 10 places which where the Hy pters are looking lots to ponder um I’ll start I suppose uh as as regulars will know I think Scotty is going to be an absolute weapon at the US Open next month so I’m prepared to keep my powder dry on Scotty in fact my tips for for the US Open could be quite quite simple to write it’s going to be like basically like my whole stake on Scotty Sheffer win could be the one of the easiest major previews I ever write that one um Rory is clearly it’s exciting to see Rory in such rude Health one one bit of warning from me I mean qu Hollow now he’s a four time winner there that is by far his most favorite Golf Course of any on the PGA tour and the reason he likes it is is because he can lash it as far as he wants and there isn’t a great deal of penalty when he misses the Fairway now that is not going to be the case this week now if he drives the ball as long and as straight as he did in 2014 Scotty and the rest have got problems on their hands but I was still seeing some quite strong disparity across his 72 holes with the driver last year last week where he can be missing Fairways by quite a distance and I think that ultimately especially I said this is proper major championship golf he do he has admitted and we’ve said in the podcast recently that Rory doesn’t play boring Golf and boring golf tends to win PGA championships middle of the greens on some of these holes don’t even look at the pin the pin is not the object here it’s to hit the ball straight right in the middle of the green two par get away from there but Roar cannot help himself so I I my gut feel is there might be too many Bogies and the odd double in there too many to win this Ferrari that takes me to Brooks kco and you guys know when it comes to Brooks kka who’s showing form and entering a major championship I’m just all over him like a rash so I took three points each way 14 to1 with bet 365 yesterday eight places each way on Brooks kka who won the 2018 PJ Championship on a very similar course at B Reeve St Louis Missouri which is the neighboring state within a couple of hours drive from here in K in uh West Kentucky also a winner I believe he won he’s won at South Wind as well in his career again on the zoa grass Fairway so he likes the zoa apparently and I I still haven’t been able to confirm it completely CU there’s two courses at stosa but I can’t see that a course next next door to another course won’t have the same Fairway grass but they said Sentosa was zoer as well where he won in Singapore so yeah I’m just on Brooks keper he won’t be everyone’s cup of te he won’t probably be people from a Strokes game perspective because those Liv Strokes gain numbers are difficult to get blah blah blah but you just even look at his raw traditional stats at the moment he’s hitting the ball with confidence off the te his approach plays excellent and lo and behold he started P putting well once that t to Green game came all of a sudden he’s putting well in Singapore so I’m on kka at 14 to1 sixth major could be this week I think i’ I’ve been on him for all of his three PJ Championship wins actually 20 to1 11 to1 and 18 to1 yeah he served you well I think over the years yeah so I’m not going to change that h are you guys dabbling near the very top of the the book The we’re still in this world as well guys we’re still in this world Chris gotter up 50 to1 yeah Rory maroy sub 10 to1 favorite we’re still in this very weird betting World on the PJ tour where the only player that has landed something between of 10 to one and 50 to1 was Billy hallw in that opposite of him yeah still haven’t had a 40 to1 a 33 to1 a no normal kind of winning odds prices on the PJ to it is year really bizarre it’s been boom all bust isn’t it really if that if that Trend follows it’s either Scotty or Rory that wins this this week and someone 50 50 to1 plus y we’re even longer potentially yeah oh there they have Jimmy Walker we have had triple digits win this oh yeah Lefty a couple of years back yeah yeah I for me um I I hear what you’re saying about Brooks and um his record at the PJ Championship is um unquestionable and he’s coming in having found some form that that Master’s performance gave him a boot up the backside that he needed to to get his game in order and he’s progressed from there got uh got that win over in Singapore as you say I I just for me I think this could be a straight fight between maroy and Sheffer at the top as again as boring and as obvious as that sounds I think these two guys are right now a long way ahead of the rest of the rest of the pack if I’m looking at prices um 4 to1 9 to2 7 to 7 to1 a little bit longer for Rory and then I’m seeing Xander at 10 to one in places and this is Xander who on a Sunday when in contention when having you know when the door is a jar and ready to be walked through seems to kind of shrink back into you know playing I don’t know just non competitive golf I guess almost it’s you know it doesn’t seem to be able to go forward and win these things I I can’t touch a player like that at that kind of price it just seems just doesn’t doesn’t compute to me I made that mistake at the Masters but at least he did bring me home an each way Place well that’s that’s what you get with Xander is it he he tends to be 10 top 10 top 12 minimum yeah yeah he’s not going to he’s not going to bring home the bacon for you if yeah if you wanted to take an each-way punt with extended terms of 14 or 16 to one he may well pay you out but does he actually win yeah I’m not convinced and ludvig as we said um has this knee issue and then you you you into some players that are a bit further down John Ram um consistent on Liv but not really competitive and then you this kind of mid-range I I for me I I I can see a scenario where it’s Sheffer and maroy a few shots ahead of the rest of the field and having a a real tussle for the title I think from a spectating perspective that would be an incredible watch should we get to that point and they’re both playing at the very top of their game um and they have been at the top of the game Sheffer four wins in the last five maroy won the last two and as we know as we’ve touched on it’s following a very similar path to how he came here back in 2014 I think Sheffer may be may have been a little bit distracted by the birth over the last week or two I think that’s the only negative you can reasonably draw from his game um I think Rory is peing and for me and I’ve just invested or reinvested some of my winnings from Rory from last week in him again this week um so win only Rory um I backed him on the exchange yesterday what 9.6 I think it was so he’s been backed in a little bit since then but generally 15 to two thereabouts with The Bookies and um I think that’s it’s a fair fair price I think I think he’s got again a good enough chance to suggest that he goes forward and and wins that that major that’s been elusive for what 10 years in fact it was the last the last time he won was here wasn’t it the last major that he won was was here at Vala back in nine and three quarter years ago it’s it’s been a long long wait but I think he’s in that right kind of space right now with his game to potentially get over the line I I I hear what you’re saying about his driving um last week Steve and given how this sets on up it’ll either work and he will bomb it and gouge it and um find a way to compile a score um or he won’t will will remains to be seen metric-wise last week first for strikes gain off the T first for strikes gain T to Green fourth for strokes gain approach and then eighth for strokes game putting the putter was working he was gaining over a stroke per round yeah last week as you need to do it Quail yep yeah he’s it makes him a very dangerous Beast I think so yeah back Rory win only the um duel forecast is interesting as well 22 to1 should that assertion be right that Sheffer and marroy are the two who will go forward and uh separate themselves and the rest of the field potentially we shall see where do you stand on the top of the market Barry so I’m I’m G to I’m questioning you from John Ram upwards I’m not suggesting that you might have backed any of these you might have done I don’t know but what are your views on on that big six if you like including ludvick in there as well o I think I have a really good chance to charge protection money for whoever you guys are backing pay me to not back them um pack Sher yeah yeah ex well that would be uh yeah that would be interesting it would certainly make for Less predictable tournaments I this the for me this is the first time in what feels quite a while Rory’s rolling into a major with a proper bounce in a step not like a fake one or one that he’s you know putting on a bit of bravado it just feels like he’s got the full Rory Swagger that we have in our you know happy memory banks and so the question for me is does he just open the bottle of that Swagger on Thursday and off you run and he wins or does something happen next week to just stop that or prevent that Swagger from fully flowing and then he doesn’t win so it’s I think that’s the Tipping Point for me on Rory um like all the factors and are kind of seemingly coalescing together to this being a great story like the 10 years one the week before etc etc etc does it happen does the Hollywood kind of story happen for Rory I want it to I think I can’t resist being drawn into it I want him to win more than I want Scotty or anybody else to win so I’ll probably end yeah being pulled into the Rory uh the Rory tornado or the Rory storm and just go for it um sheers yeah shefer is going to be there we’re having to really nitpick at reasons why we think shefer won’t win yeah and that that tells you how good that guy is CHS oh he he’s yeah oh God he had this one bad shot on zoa grass this you know this time last year it’s like oh God we better we better really narrow in on that and make sure that we uh use you know use that as a reason to not pick him like if if if you’re feeling Sheffer he’s got the new baby bounce he is Comfortably better than anybody else in the world the last 18 months I I couldn’t tell anybody’s an not back Sher and uh now it’s really confidence now no not at all like you have we did it at the Masters we tried to find every reason to not and um yeah and then onto Brooks it’s interesting to see Brooks kind of um get woken up by Pete count giving him a bit of um tough love goes out and wins it’s um it’s a little bit unusual to be talking and looking at Brooks um with a a good recent bit you know bit of recent good form going into a major it’s um it’s not normal and that kind of is a little bit confusing almost but but it should be really helpful and make it a really clear case look all the stars are there do they line up and we get like the you know a few of the big guys at the top of the leaderboard on Sunday just throwing hay makers at each other God I really hope so wouldn’t it be wonderful can you imagine imagine like you’ve got Scotty in that top three come Sunday you’ve got Rory and all and Brooks up there and they’re all staring each other down in the last couple of groups within intimidation you know they’re the only two golfers in my mind that could literally potentially create a moment of weakness in Scotty Sheffer Rory on fire and Brooks just in total 100% major mode yeah that’s that’s that is the the the Searing white hot heat of pressure that people could potentially put on Scotty Sheffer and it’d be fascinating to watch I’d put Ram in that category as well he could he has that that intimidation Factor I’m not sure about John Ram still just doesn’t quite seem to be connecting just yet but yes if Ram was on at the peak of his powers of course you’d throw him in there as well so oh yeah I’m I’m I’m all over the place I don’t really know I might hang on a little bit I’ve got an anti post on Max I backed Striker last week when one of The Bookies went to eight places I took him I got about 100 to one for going into this week which is great I’m very happy about and I may just sit and hold off and see how the this weather develops like there might be some like real impact on how guys have to play their first couple of rounds and in what sort of conditions there could be huge advantages to going out straight after rain or soon after the rain where the course is really soft and receptive just full dart board so um yeah I’m kind of sitting on the fence a little bit right now we you’ll have the um draw by well hopefully tea time over here Tuesday so that might be able to help you with your final decisions there Barry so lunchtime East Eastern time in the states yeah just after maybe you know me I do like to find some negatives the only well not the only but one negative I could see with Rory is just the amount of pure golf that the guy has played recently I mean he’s played the Valero Texas open the Masters the RBC Heritage the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in four weeks he had one week off where they played the DJ cup he then trounced the field at Wells farger so he’s had five competitive weeks of golf in the last six that’s a lot of golf but yeah he’s a he’s a momentum player I get that and you can look at things in various different ways but if the amount of golf that Rory has played if you look at anyone else at the top of that of that betting Market no one else has played anywhere near the amount of golf that Rory has played I’m just pulling up here glads live as we record the podcast we have a soft positive Golf Course metric on our predictor model so I thought it’d be fun just to run through some names number one Rory mroy number two Victor hovland this is a rolling number on soft golf courses on the PJ tour and DP World Tour uh sorry no the p DJ tour Over The Last 5 Years three uh Victor holand at two Justin Thomas at three Sun Jim at four Patrick cantlay at five cam Smith at six bearing in mind he hasn’t played on the PJ tour for over a year now seven is Xander eight is Scotty Sheffer nine is Keegan Bradley who is Big triple digits and 10 my old marker Russell Henley beneath then kka 11 Ram 12 fenale 13 Glover 14 emelan Gia 15 bearing in mind with some of those live guys like Rah but more like Kea he hasn’t played on the PJ tour for a couple of years now so when I’m taking soft performances off that rolling five years they’re not getting replaced yep so he would have been far more prominent if he’ been playing the PJ T full time y but those guys there oh by the way Barry SE strucker sits within the top 20 in in this field which is encouraging that’s nice I mean look at this stage I’ll take any little Rainbow on the horizon for any picks I make so he’s he’s he’s got he’s on a nice run of form like 16th fifth I mean 11th the the team event then eight last week it’s a nice it’s a nice it’s a nice lineup let’s it’s also the way that he’s actually cating his performances I mean he’s my I might as well just jump to it he is my longest price tip this week sep Stricker I was looking for a player around that sort of plus 80 to1 or around that kind of Mark who’s the kind of guy that you could pick that would be a shock winner but you just know that that player when you look back was yeah a bit like Windam Clark was when he won the US Open last year it was that kind of well Windam Clark won a qu Hollow is his first ever but yeah he never done anything in a m and then they win and you’re blood Windam Clark one I’m not sure I’d put sep in that kind of category as in he likely to win this but I could see him going very very well I mean just take his Quail Hollow performance in isolation eighth last week 13th for strokes g off the tea and as I say he’s second this year on tour for driving accuracy you wouldn’t have seen that two years ago sep used to be a real spreader yeah seventh for approach 13th for ta green and he was top 20 for strokes game pting it’s not that’s a cracking all round performance the only thing he struggled with was he lost half a shot around the greens same at the Harper Town we’re all on I mean I was on board he went out in the last group with Scotty 10th for off the te eighth for approach 15th for Te to Green seventh for putting what is there not to like about sep strucker at the moment so I managed I couldn’t get 100 to one I got 80 to1 we bet 365 the odds Checker grid had collapsed at that point I could and still can get 80 to1 on SEP strucker with 10 places each way with bet Fred which I think is cracking value his last his last four majors from the starting from the PGA Championship last year t7th caught at the US Open which you can happily write off it’s the US Open T2 at the Open Championship and then t16 at the Masters gu’s yeah like he’s fine being in that part of the leaderboard board so um he can win I like the bet it’s nice do you think you if you compare him to just max for example to find somebody similar with with similar levels of um major results okay Max has gone T10 T3 in his last two majors to break that top 10 hoodoo other than that Max’s other high finish and major was back in 2022 PGA was t13 so like comparable records and majors and sters price is nearly three times out of Max’s now I think M Max is a better player because he won more but I’m just saying in terms of their major performances and value for Price yeah he always does seems to be a long price um even in regular tournaments strier yeah it’s great makes you feel like you got he’s never hammered by the bookmakers no it’s like will alores when Wills alores gets a top five finish in the tournament next thing you know he’s 12 to under next week yeah with se he can finish second and you’re still finding him at 66 to1 the week after yeah yep I have gone you know 25 to1 bet 365 two points each way on Bryson D Shambo he’s got two wins in Illinois two wins in Ohio and a win in West Virginia all neighboring states to Kentucky so his first ever win on the corn Ferry was in Ohio the dap da sorry da Championship he then won the John Deere Classic in Illinois in 2017 he won the 2018 Memorial on a Jack Nicholas design at mirfield Village I was on him that week I can remember writing the tip and it’s like he does like playing in this area was one of the part of the commentary 2023 on Liv he won at Green Brier which is in neighboring West Virginia he also won in Chicago last year he just loves playing in this kind of geographical climb I think there’s also one he won the rocket mortgage Detroit that’s Michigan he uh he he I remember that he literally took that course apart with the driver and that’s just what I like about him I think on this course soft we haven’t got any of these undulations and quirky uneven lies this week if you said to me Steve the two c the two majors that Bryson D Shambo has the best chance of winning with his game very quick answer PJ championship and a US Open I just feel that austa can get too quirky for him with the same length clubs blah blah blah blah blah little bit too creative for him but the fact that he played so well at the Masters in that round that was really soft on the Thursday with little wind that was just enough for me he loves playing around these parts his game is made for a PJ Championship just with his awesome length he can literally just say it in bombs away Bryson hack it out of that rough play some percentage golf into the into the greens and just compile a score so I I I do like d Shambo this week of of the guys in that mid pack it was fairly it was fairly clear for me it was D Shambo and the last one was Max Homer we’ve said on this podcast for for years now classical Golf Course old style can be long could be short doesn’t really seem to matter with him I mean he’s won round Tory Pines you you know major championship venues he’s won at them he won his first PJ Tour event at qu Hollow which has hosted PJ championships is going to host another PGA Championship very soon he won at Tory Pine his last victory last year a US Open venue we were all on him at TPC pomac a few years ago when he won on that classical old style course that was tight and clust claustrophobic that was in uh Maryland that isn’t a million miles away from a sort of agronomy feel to it climate feel to it and he’s just playing that kind of golf just never really got involved last week but was always on the fringes of the top 10 he was in the top 10 for ta to Green he can just about hit it long enough I mean he was three I think he averaged 320 something off the te or something something he was long off the two last week he when he wants to he can hit the ball a long way I think he’s just about got the raw materials to win a PGA Championship he was 3117 off the T last week 12th in the field and that was an Elite field last week so he’s long enough it was the numbers of the Masters that grabbed me he was eighth for driving accuracy he was second for Greens in regulation there and he’s just as Barry said a few minutes ago he’s got his head around majes all of a sudden he can turn up and go you know what I can give it a damn good go so Homer was the other one I took I got 20 uh a 30 to1 with bet Fred 10 places each one on Max homer so that’s me I’m done I can be quiet from this point onwards I’ve got kka dambo Homer and SE strucker well over to you guys I’ll leave it to you now just have a coup of two to stick with Homer right now for now I’m I’m on him from last year I just backed them for every major last year got him a 40 to one for all of them so I’m there on the max um what do you think Max’s strengths are with with regards to this course Baron I think it’s his his uh his mental approach it’s that like ability to just grind out scores when it seems like the classical golf courses are are kind of testing and probing at your game and seeing what you know just see as there any do any weaknesses show up and he that seems to really activate that kind of like gnarly Grind Mode out of him um and so when the going gets tough he you stays in there and I think that’s it’s that grit kind of factor that I like about him the uh the skill sets are there he had that old gusta didn’t he where he built that score got to the top of the leaderboard with dambo didn’t it was like 20 there was a long period of no birdies no Bogies just pa pa pa pa pa I think he’s good at that a not automated but like you just go into that kind of robotic phase of just let’s keep just keep grinding out the scores just keep hang you know grabbing pars grabbing pars the birdies will arrive eventually I think that’s you know and like I’ve said over the last couple of years from you know outside observation it just seems like Max is constantly adding another little piece to the puzzle another little piece to the puzzle and it’s just getting more and more um weapons to his Arsenal in in ter to attack these tournaments so very happy to be on them um I would probably have picked him anyway this week and and ruined them for you but I think because I backed him last year it might not jinx him based on current uh Barry picks so let’s hope that’s the case I’ve said this is the opening sentence to my tip I’ve always said that the players that players mature at different rates and for every Jordan SP or Windham Clark who won Majors with little previous exposure others take a little longer to get accustomed to golf at the very highest level and that is Max but I think finally hopefully fingers crossed he now know he he he actually belongs because we know just watching him over the years that major championship goal from major championship courses are where he’s at his very best you can just see across his pj2 a resume that is the case but he now actually believes in himself so hopefully that happens this week q79 in round one stop yeah Ian at least he breaks 80 in that situation do you where do you see the the scoring happening this week do you think it’ll be mids scores you think the guys will get to like I was feeling like they might get to twelves but Paul and I were having this discussion yesterday it’s difficult is it especially on a Monday at like 500 a.m. when you’re pulling all this stuff together and you hung over but um my my gut feel on this was what did Rory win at was it it was 16 I think yeah I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be low double digits depends if the wind gets up if that wind gets a little bit stronger and starts to but I think looking at this forecast and the fact that this is going to be soft I don’t think there’s any sub air here and that’s the key isn’t there they can’t get these Green sing in if they can get these greens soft where you are going to miss greens but when you do hit them the ball is literally stopping there’s very little release I think they’ll they’ll get to they’ll get to double digits yeah and Thursday does look particularly calm it’s like not a breath of wind feels if they’re literally coming off off the Thursday and the lead scores like four under you know this is going to be a tough one yeah yeah that’s true I can’t see that and that isn’t Kerry ‘so I don’t think he just wants the golf course to put up a a decent fight so the very best can gravitate to the top of the leaderboard and if you’re playing well you get scoring if yeah it feels like somebody could could go out and shoot like a 78 under this week in one of the rounds if they’re playing well it all clicks they avoid those disasters than the scoring is available but other I’ll never forget watching Brooks kepka at Beth pagee on that Thursday when he literally ripped that Golf Course apart and you’ve got Elite golfers struggling to break par and he was at 78 under on the morning round that’s the point isn’t it kry hag sets it up so it’s tough I won’t call it over penal and if you’re on form and you’re playing Great Golf you can score but you’ve got to be at the top of your gun that’s that’s kind of hiso so I can see that so yeah I don’t know I I’m thinking 12 13 under something along those lines that’s what I’m hoping for I think that’d be about right anyway so I’ve stopped so you you’ve covered off Max Homer right continue you guys you take the podcast forward from from Max Homer the only one that I’ve backed outside of three figures is um Windam Clark and you talked about players who’ve kind of stepped up and escalated in terms of their ability I guess and and their position in world golf then Clark over the last 12 months has done exactly that um won the Wells Fargo as we know won the US Open last year um will come into the US Open next month as the defending Champion so that that presents a different kind of challenge for him I think but um I think in the meantime there’s a almost a free hit here and uh yeah it’s he’s been playing some decent stuff he’s been he’s one of those players that you can see has now got to a point where he feels that he is capable of taking on and contending and you know rubbing shoulders with these guys at the very very top and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him up there again won the U one at Pebble Beach early in the year second at the um the players championship and third quite recently at the Heritage as well didn’t play after that for a couple of weeks so I I’m kind of happy to forgive the fact that he finished a bit further down the field 47th last week at the Wells Fargo um that was more just a loosening exercise I think ahead of this week and 40 to one given the players that are in that kind of bracket the name Windam Clark at 40 to1 did seem to be uh seem to be back to me there wasn’t outside of that i’ struggled to back anyone who’s yeah there for me there if it is going to pan out the way that it I think it may well pan out where it is a fight between potentially the top two if you’re right about Brooks then potentially the top three then then we’re playing for place money for everyone else so you know really I want some some Hefty or heftier prices about the players that I’m backing so I’m I’m three figures from here are you got any in the below that Barry also I plow on with the uh the guys that I’ve got you you two have so much on wacky Neeman he was going to be world number one of the prems calling you too and you haven’t even mentioned wacky at all this for it’s only four weeks four or five weeks later happen me that’s a long four or five weeks as wack lost an arm or something didn’t particularly appease himself to me at the uh at the Masters so nor did Winden Clark at the Quail Hollow he started with a birdie then he went double double I thought doomed his uh Windom Clark are you worried at all about his uh PJ Championship record Paul is that just you can just write that off I think you’ve almost got to draw a line on everything before last year I think me ask yourself the question when you you we watch golf every week why is Windam Clark longer in price than Victor hland on 2024 form with a lot of bookmakers that’s nuts yeah it is nuts yeah like 33 to1 bet 365 Victor hland 40 to1 Windam Clark was that just the recreational uh or golf fan average punter just says I want to back hland versus Clark because he’s a much more likable person it’s got to be name and brand value isn’t it lots of golfers hold brand and name value I mean that that doesn’t make any sense to me that hovland is shorter than Windam Clark in 2024 yeah as Paul said Windam Clark has been one of the only golfers that challenged Scotty Sheffer this year and took him to the like the N degree at the players didn’t he when yeah that if that if that ball doesn’t horse you out on 18 they go to a playoff yeah with within an inch of uh of a playoff agree against the Stellar field against the field that’s not dissimilar to what we’re talking about this week no anyway Barry back to sorry I I like the one of your long shots Paul you know he’s one of my favorite players so I’ll be jumping on that bet but I’ll let you talk about that um yeah other ones I was looking at mid-range were well the other mid-range one I want was kind of keen to discuss and look it was minwoo abundance of distance off the tea uh play some nice golf and feels like um he feels like a decent chance to pop and can get him at around 66 to one with extended places it’s if it’s a fun bet to be on um I don’t have a whole lot more to add like just a fan of his game kind of had them just pencil down and also fearful about backing players I like because what I’ve been doing to them recently and killing their chances of doing well in tournaments so minwoo was amazingly good from T to Green at Augusta he was from a Strokes game perspective he’s 21st from te green you look at the old traditional stats you know the old the old man stats that Paul and I love to draw over third for driving distance 13th for driving accuracy 12 for Greens in RG second for total driving first for ball striking he was 12th for ball striking at the Byron Nelson when I was on him the other week he’s playing nicely from tea to great and he is so so long off the tea PJ Championship is definitely something that theoretically works for Min wulu yeah just pure vicious driving so yeah I get that I could see M looks like the book makers think the same with you know 66 is and 80 to one with uni bit I feel like I want a lot of extra places just to increase the catchment zone you you you tend to be the Shane Larry whisper any any any is he sobered up yet since new new or leans or I don’t know I don’t I don’t know it’s um I think he had I think he had one or two more than and Rory clearly did from what he did at qua Hollow when he came back on the golf course yeah I don’t I don’t know if Quail Hollow is like quite his Vibe for for Golf Course style um is this week I don’t know flip flip a coin I’m I’m the worst person to to ask right now I also don’t want to jinx him so yeah just happily support him if he’s in uh in contention do you want to run through your your Tri triple digits then Paul that you that you I will put a link to them in the podcast description for more detail yeah I’ve picked three out um I back them all with bet Fred’s 10 places um each way option one5 of the odds um well with the exception of the first one you can get slightly longer if you’re willing to to take um fewer hway places but again going back to this point um you know if can can can you see a scenario where Scotty and Rory AR taking two of those places up of the each way plac he probably not probably Kea you know I think to Barry’s point you probably need as many each way places as you can so that that’s why I’ve played it this way um first of which or first of whom is Alex noren 125 to1 you mentioned him before stev has got some fantastic stats this season yeah one of one of the most consistent performers over over the last eight seven eight months or so it hasn’t missed a cut actually since the 4 in it back in September last year since then second at the Bermuda Championship third at the Shriners third at the CJ cup Byron Nelson um a week or two back it comes into this off the back of seven straight top 25 finishes and playing some really nice stuff statistically eight for strikes G CA green for the season sick for strokes G around the green sick for Greens in regulation first for scrambling some really tidy numbers and does have a little bit of uh previous at the the major SI at the Open Championship back in 2017 serial winner over on the DP World Tour when he was playing there uh 10 wins and some big profile ones as well um won the Ned bank which was like part of their final series and one at Wentworth for Tre Ed uh form uh well well capable I think you the kind of player that I think could ease into the top 10 and reward each way players or each way punters on that so Alex noren also back Nikolai hoard same price 125 to one at 16 for the Masters now that doesn’t really tell the whole story cuz he was firmly in the mix for the first three days uh drifted a bit on the Sunday which was disappointing in 16th in the end which means he doesn’t get his automatic invite to next year but I’m sure he’ll qualify one way or the other anyway but uh we’re seeing some good Progressive form in the majors 53rd 50th 23rd 16th over his last four major starts so he’s heading firmly in the the right direction I think um and could sneak a personal best here this week and potentially a top 10 and each way payout for this particular bet he’s certainly powerful enough to contend here uh 21st on the tour for driving distance for the season so far 20th for strokes going off the T fifth for total driving um on that particular metric which it combines a bit of power and um accuracy so has a lot of the raw attributes that I want to see this week comes in and the reason you got 125 to1 is he comes in off the back of a misc car at the corales that was the week after the Augusta effort so I can understand why he wasn’t firing an all cylind is there Mr K the Zurich alongside his brother um again I’m not going to put a massive amount of credence in that he rested since um and that’s kept his price pretty backal for this week so Nikolai is in 125 to one and the final one which I’m sure is the one that barries along for the ride with two is Jake knp um now I backed to 150 to one yesterday there’s 200 to one out there in fact bet Fred since I backed him yesterday have extended their priced 175 to1 so you’re getting um 175 to1 with 10 places with bet Fred right as we record this podcast which is pretty tasty I must say he can bomb the ball can’t he yeah he’s got very much so I mean like hoard he’s got the uh the raw Firepower isn’t he they’re very very similar um statistically from off the team 2030 is for driving distance so he’s just an absolute fraction behind Nikolai um in terms of driving distance one the Mexico open as we know we were on board man Barry um and that was a combination of power with just about enough accuracy to to get the job done seventh for driving or total driving he was that particular week third at Tory Pines that’s another long course and that was against a relatively strong nons signature event fied that particular week had a good chance again at the CJ cup didn’t he a couple of weeks ago CJ cup Byron Nelson title um finished eighth in the end but if he’ got you know his Sunday performance going he could have had another win it was possible he’s the kind of player that I expect to see contend for Majors over the next few years so why not as early as this week the PJ Championship tends to be the one that if you’re going to get a um a maiden major winner Maiden major uh performance long price from a player that this tends to be the major where that happens more than others so yeah Jake nap could be the surprise package this week I think so yeah nap Hoy guard noren for me I take it is nap that you’re on Barry it is yeah he’s got a chance I think he’s got a chance of making the frame I’m that that just that distance he has off the tea is I think it’s going to be a big Advantage this week just es with all this rain falling just it thickens up that roof just you’re go everyone’s going to miss fairies and especially if they’re what you’re saying Steve 18 20 yards wide at 300 yards yeah some of these Fairways are yeah they’re very very tight that is just catching like the vast majority of the field if people are flying at 290 to 305 like that’s that’s pretty much everybody in that kind of um danger zone for going into the rof so extra distance sequels um just more Loft being able to pop out of that roof and get it up around the green yeah that’s it definitely that’s it that’s us I hope I hope your bets go well chaps yeah looking forward to this one best of luck boys you too boys yeah best of luck to you guys I hope your bets go well next week we have got best of luck to listeners of course uh we’ve got the return we’ve got the DP well tour returning to Europe po m in Belgium sudow open Adrian deu chassa is playing ah very good we be 12 to one favorite yeah probably uh and we’ve got the CH the I always love this one the Charles swab challenge it’s such an exciting tournament name on the PJ at Colonial Country Club I hope your bets go well listeners we will see you again next week enjoy the PGA Championship if you li betting on golf but everyone that you back misses the cut get some experts [Music] involved with all the stats and the tips and so much more cuz it’s the golf beding system the 1. another great podcast – interesting to hear the longshots. I've backed the LIV quartet (Koepka, Rahm, Dechambeau and Cam Smith). My longshot is Denny McCarthy who I thought was decent e/w value at 150s.
