Kirk Cousins deflects ‘hypothetical’ question about Atlanta | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC
https://www.youtube.com/NFLonNBC

as we were unpacking our reaction to the decision to draft penic the various layers and levels at some point one of the things you and I instantly agreed on is the idea that there’s no way cousins would have gone to Atlanta if he had known what they were going to do yeah he wouldn’t have he would have stayed in Minnesota if he would have known they were going to use the eighth overall pick in the draft on his replacement short circu in the anticipated three years he was going to have with the team I mean as a practical matter now they could dump him after one year they will have paid him 62.5 million they wouldn’t cut him they would trade him somebody could take on the contract for 27 A5 million next year that’s it 27 A5 million in 2025 that’s a tradable contract if there’s a team out there that says we want Kirk Cousins right and you never know what’s going to cause someone to say we want Kirk Cousins for a year or two that third year where the final 10 million that’s fully guaranteed at signing is parked you cut him after two somebody’s going to sign him and you’re going to get the offset no one’s going to pay him less than 10 million although I guess he could just out of spite do the Russell Wilson thing and go somewhere and play for 1.2 but then he’d only make 10 if it’s only 10 he’s not going to do that he’s going to want to go somewhere and make 20 25 30 so you’re going to avoid that final 10 if you cut him after two years most likely so this is a relationship the Dynamics of which change dramatically once they use that eighth overall pick pick on your replacement and I say all that because cousins was asked the question that we flagged as others did it’s an obvious take he wouldn’t have come here if he would have done this so Kirk would you have signed with the Falcons if you had known that they were going to use that selection on your eventual successor here’s what he had to say I don’t really deal in hypotheticals you know we could go down that path for a long time in a lot of ways it just doesn’t do us any good so uh uh you know I’m I’m excited for this opportunity I have I think it’s a real privilege to be a quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons and I’m trying to make good on the opportunity they’ve given me uh with the way I work each day and the way we play this fall coping coping coping coping Serenity Now Serenity Now 100 million doll later it helps to be getting $100 million one way or the other to know that over the next three years you will make $100 million that helps but anytime anybody says I don’t really deal in hypotheticals that tells you that if they were going to tell you the truth you know what the truth was going to be it wasn’t going to be hell yeah I still would have come here that’s all he had to say hell yeah I still would have come here I wanted to come to Atlanta I want to play for this team I fully trust them to make good decisions about what they’re going to do with their draft picks it’s not my business to expect them to take a defensive end or a defensive tackle or anything but a quarterback with the eighth overall pick in the draft yeah I still would have come here I don’t really deal in hypothetical means are you kidding me no way I would have come here well yeah I mean I I’m with you I mean I certainly would would you know I I I kind of GLE clean the same type of thing you know from that response and he was uncomfortable answering that I mean that wasn’t like a natural Kirk cousin smile that was like uh I knew you were going to ask that and here’s the answer I thought about right here’s what I’ve been practicing I’ve been thinking about this the last few days and this is here it is right um Hands by the side trying not to sweat trying not to sweat my armpits as I say it maybe he got some Old Spice under there so he’s good he’s not doing the Chris Sims nothing there mold and and sweating through it but yeah I I mean of course I think it’s fair to to to think that and you know again Kirk Cousins he’s trying not to let his mind go down that way you’re right I mean hey they committed to him and all that but still at the same time like we’ve talked about yeah committed a hundred million all of that that’s all great and fine and dandy but you know again he’s looking at that going well wait that’s what I’m supposed to be paid that’s the market value of a good quarterback so yeah okay so yeah that’s great that’s great but like you know hey the money’s good I wanted the money of course but like one of the reasons I came here was to win and be the leader of the organization and be the guy and I’m supposed to be the guy you invested in to make sure all that stuff happens and what you got somebody for a cheaper bargain that can maybe take my job in a few years and take away some of my ability to lead the team and bring the city together around the Falcons I mean of course not who the hell would want to deal with this situation nobody wants to deal with this situation this is the situation that we talked about you know I think we talked about it last week draft day for most people is nerve-wracking when you’re on a roster now Superstar quarterbacks usually not right so he got brought into the pile of like whoa this is what it feels like to be the the backup linebacker just a middle of the road you know right guard and then they’re trying to replace it but yeah it’s it’s all messed up down there and again I I don’t know where they think this is going I feel they think like we’re going to answer a few questions and it’s just going to everybody’s going to forget about it and it’s like no we’re not it’s going to continue and Atlanta radio stations are still calling me and texting me telling me it’s still the number one story down there and it’s just going to go on it’s going to continue and Michael Pennock is made from the NFL he’s old he’s mature already he’s got he’s a great pocket passing quarterback he’s going to have a good preseason in fact they’re going to have to be careful of how good his preseason is to the point where it’s going to be like they might have to call Basic plays so he doesn’t look too good so they don’t have to deal with this because every time he throws one of these Rockets through the air and Kirk Cousins throws one of his 91 M hour fast balls in the air everyone’s going to go man Michael penx looks good it looks better than Kirk Cousins and it’s just going to be constant down there and I don’t think Atlanta thought that part of this thing uh you know through when when it all went down a month ago go hey and what we said on Monday one of the things that I doubt they thought through you’re going to have Caleb Williams playing in Chicago and quite possibly playing well J Daniels playing in Washington and quite possibly playing well you’re going to have Bo Nicks in Denver quite possibly playing well and you’re going to have the guy that the Vikings took after cousins packed his stuff and left JJ McCarthy possibly playing and playing well unless cousins is going 3 50 and three touchdowns and no picks every week and winning in prime time assuming the Falcons get some Prime Time games we find out tonight at 8 o’clock Eastern the full schedule you’re going to have Atlanta fans you’re going to have media you’re going to have people in the locker room saying all these other guys are playing and they’re playing well what could our guy do maybe our guy could do more you know we we we talked about this recently Pete found the quotes from Tomah Hal when he was being introduced for the Chiefs Fame saying that there were times in 2017 where the players wanted Patrick Mahomes to play yeah and I went back and looked at the schedule they started 5-0 at one point they’re six and Six coming out of their buy they scored 19 total points in two games that is not an Andy Reid offense I can imagine they had some stuff to deal with and Andy Reid dealt with it well the Falcons may have to deal with this too and it’s just going to be harder because there isn’t the same organizational history with cousins that the Chiefs had with Alex Smith I think it made it easier for Reed to to take up for Smith and let’s park Patrick Mahomes for year and there wasn’t any other well Shawn Watson kind of was tearing it up as a rookie so that part of it doesn’t but it wasn’t like there were three or four other rookies who were tearing it up that Mitchell Tris wasn’t right so they were able to weather that storm yes and it wasn’t the same you know it wasn’t the same too people didn’t know what Mahomes was going to be people were killing the Chiefs for doing it right I mean killing it I see it all the time of the old clips of you know draft pundits NFL experts like this is a crazy pick all of that so they had that this is not that this is different than than that situation there and I think that’s where it it it adds to you know the dysfunction even more uh than than you know the that’s the situation we were just talking about there hi it’s Mike Florio thanks for watching PFT on YouTube hit sub subscribe for the latest news and Analysis from pro football 1. He's now gotta answer hypothetical questions too?
Im sorry he left you Mike, but you're gonna need to move on 😂

  2. Everyone is considering every position except for the position of Atlanta and its fans. They are extremely happy with the pick. Regardless of what Kirk, Mike or the Media thinks. Atlanta is so thrilled about the position! Both are good guys are will do what’s right for the team

  3. Last season he went 1-4 and then when he got hurt he was 4-4. Nothing shows that he would have been better than 9-8 or 8-9.

  4. What do you think he was going say . When kirk put video out on tennis court , kwesi was offering another 1 year band aid ( basically).

Vikings do everything backwards…..this is when they could've gotten him at 85m gtd over 2 years and a 3rd year in fungible dollars ( whatever it may be ).

Kirk is an improving 35 year old qb with I believe his best 2-3 years ahead of him. KOC understands this – unfortunately half the fan base wanted to reset at qb ( who don't understand what they're watching ).

NFC north would've been best division in NFC and , arguably, the 2nd best in all of football.

The vikings would've glided into playoffs and making good on nfl decision on having vikes-lions playing 2 of last 3 weeks.

The rams would've been odd man out as they lost to green bay and 3 teams would've been in from the north if achillies didn't pop . Maybe a playoff win and out but would've kept kirk and this would be one crazy year in nfc north.

  5. ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio reported that the Vikings "were surprised" by Cousins' comments. In the wake of the NFL's probe, the Falcons released the following statement: "Due to the NFL’s review, we are unable to provide information or have additional comment." Atlanta's owner or GM's friend of a friend contacts Cousin's agent. "We are going to lose multiple future #1 picks. This guy dropped. We are taking him. Let Kirk know. We are cool with him. Understand. We will take the heat." Atlanta forced to do this because they cannot talk directly to Kirk or Agent about tampering. Thanks Mike.

  6. I Think Kirk Cousins is a better QB than Dak Prescott, I truly believe if Kirk was on the Cowboys, they would’ve been to the SB at least Once in the past 3 years! And this is coming from an Eagles fan!

  7. Funny how they both say they're "for the players" and then proceed to make content crapping on players everyday. Brady, Rodgers, Cousins. A bit hypocritical imo

  8. Kirk is getting 100 million in 2 years to play on an offense w lots of weapons and in a crappy division. He’s a professional, I don’t doubt this was a surprise for him but at the end of the day it’s still an amazing position for Kirk

  9. If I was Cousins I would have an injury setback, let Penix start and watch him crash and burn then he can be Saviour Kirk. Since when is Penix a lock to be a nfl starting qb?

  10. I'm not sure what you're trying to stir up at these videos but most Vikings fans that aren't idiot children or religious fanatics were incredibly happy to get rid of Kurt. He's a fraud.

  11. This will all be forgotten whenever Penix takes over (I assume next season) and does well. Then people will be like "wow, we got a franchise QB for the next 10 years!"

Kirk Cousins will go home and roll around in his hundred dollar bills to feel better. He'll be fine.

  12. I think it’s the right move optically looking at the decision to draft Penix.Cousins has been given the bag with nothing to show for it but 1 playoff win the pressure on him to win is now greater than ever im glad they did this maybe will give him the incentive to actually produce in playoffs beyond the everlasting cycle of his regular season dominance. The guy probably has 6 games minimum

  13. He may not have gone to Atlanta, but he wouldn't have remained in Minnesota either. The Vikings front office told him that they were going in another direction and would select a QB high in this years draft and basically offered a 1 year "take it or leave it" deal to Cousins. So he went for the big guaranteed money in Atlanta with the mindset that it would be 4 comfy years, 180 million contract, and gets to play in his wifes hometown until his retirement. But he never counted on the Falcons brass pulling the rug out from beneath him with the drafting of Michael Penix. It's a worst case scenario for Cousins, i wouldn't at all be surprised if Mike McCartney is already exploring potential trade scenarios for his client.

  14. 😂 Dallas Turner wouldnt move the needle. Why overdraft him? Penix is THE best pure passer coming out of this draft. QB is the most important position in all of football. If Penix starts at the age of 28 it will be 1 year older than Rodgers was when he got his start. Weh everyone else but falcons fans.
