questions answers let’s just Dive Right on in with one from Dan Kelly Friend of the show how’s it going buddy how does Tom feel about the way the Patriots hired Elliot wolf specifically as it relates to compliance with the Rooney Rule or the craft surprised about where people refusing to interview obviously going through the first three candidates that were like yeah no thank you we’re not GNA go through the dog and pony show yeah start with the second half first I don’t think that the crafts or anybody in New England should have been surprised by the notion that Minority candidates or individuals who feel a candidacy is completely sealed off or a position is completely sealed off don’t want to go I mean that’s what the entire Brian Flores lawsuit is all about stop the dog and pony show and guys are now starting to say look it’s not entertaining to sit there and be led to believe you have an opportunity to be hired when you don’t so I think that the Patriots decision and Robert Craft in his statement on Saturday announcing that Elliot wolf was going to be the Personnel head said as we discussed many times it doesn’t matter how many times you discussed it it was discussed you know with me personally with others on the beat and every time I said but why why would you do that if you need to have a GM who can run the draft or a final safe person to run the draft and run your free agency and you’re not going to pull the rug out from under that person afterwards well why bother name him because that’s in essence what they did they knew what they were going to do do they didn’t do it and then later they did it now as you’ve seen Mike Florio Taylor talk about you know the Patriots wanted to have their cake and E to to and they certainly did achieve that but I also think it sends off smoke signals of this is a way to skirt the Rooney Rule and at the same time I’m so curious because the Rooney Rule still has to be complied to now my read on the situation was that they didn’t want to do it before the draft because it would have created distractions where you have a group that has put in all the work where you kind of have an idea of who these guys are what the staff is obviously you still had the transition of the system but do you think there was a benefit to waiting because you didn’t have to go through the whole bringing candidates in during a process where it might have been like okay now who’s in charge is Ellie wolf really the guy who’s at the head of this thing or do you think regardless they should have done it as early as possible I think they should have done it as early as possible I don’t think that this is going to be reflected in wins and losses on the field or practices in May June training camp or in the season I I just don’t think it will it just it doesn’t speak to an air of hey we know exactly what we’re doing and this is how we’re going to operate after we move on from built and if that was the plan hatched which is go ahead I was just curious because I feel like it still starts with the league though that the rule has to be adhered to despite the fact that I know that we like to pretend that nepotism and you know certain lineages don’t exist that is the way things are if you have someone in your building like a gerro Mayo who Robert Craft has known since he was in his early 20s as a player and has watched him grow it makes sense that he’s like this is someone I know intimately I’ve seen successful coaches I’m going to elevate this guy and with Elliot wolf we knew even when he was the deao GM that he was well respected around the league and people thought that he could potentially be a general manager candidate so do you think there’s still a way that you can go about the rule in a way that’s helpful where you let the candidates know like Adrien Clum last year you’re not really interviewing for this job but we have to comply so we’d like to see if you’d be interested in this job like one of the candidates was a salary cap expert do you think that’s kind of the best way to go about it or do you think still regardless of how comfortable you feel with your own people you should be going through a thorough process to see other options no I I think that the Rooney Rule needs to be while well intentioned completely overhauled so that you’re not so that you’re operating above board at all times nobody likes to feel defrauded nobody likes to feel I mean this was Mayo with Charlotte excuse me with Carolina last year they wanted him to come down for a head coaching opportunity they didn’t talk about the head coaching opportunity he was checking a box down there so to me you’re looking at the same situation over and over again of pretending one thing executing another and that doesn’t achieve the final goal of trying to find a more diverse pool I think the most important thing to remember is so frequently I think the NFL pool of candidates comes from a group of individuals who by the time they’re 17 and 18 have already gotten themselves on a coaching track you’re much younger than I am but I find people coming to me when they’re freshman in college high school seniors how do I get out to media and that’s the way it is with coaching or gming or cap analysis or analytics people start really really young and I think unless you have designs on that kind of a a role or a track because you definitely know you’re not going to play in the league those guys are getting a jump on you that to me is one of the most interesting aspects of this weag how does Elliot wolf get a jump on despite his last name how does he get a jump on any other number of candidates John Lynch white guy eventually get the job he was in the league though and he has to make up for all the time that Elliot wolf has spent in meetings and draft meetings and Personnel meetings so it’s not as much about getting people in front of ownership I think it’s about more tailor finding people like yourself who are not in media but who are so analytically and technically and schematically grounded people of color and cultivating those individuals so that they in the pipeline earlier which I think is somewhat being achieved to a degree it’s the head co like you have the coaching fellowships and there are some efforts you have to give the league credit being made you at least get people of color in the pipeline like you said so that they’re known so that they can establish a presence and then go from there and this is a super loaded question this I’m gonna kind of wrap this up it’s just an interesting topic yeah and if you don’t have anything I’m not gonna hold it against you this is a really difficult question but are there any amendments to the Rooney Rule that you can think of as someone who’s been in the space for so long seeing how it was before it was implemented how it’s been after are there certain tangible changes that you think the league could make to make it more of a rule that is above board and isn’t condescending to the people that have to go through it that’s that’s the biggest part to me the condescension of it I would blow it up to be honest I would eliminate it and come up with something entirely different it’s been bastardized to such a degree that it doesn’t achieve what its goal is and what a continual what it unfortunately does is gives a perception of well this person has achieved because of color this person has achieved because they were fast-tracked this person I don’t get my opportunity because I’m not um a Rooney Rule candidate but I’m more accomplished than this individual I just think that you know it’s a long conversation I’ll just say this because I’m not going to delve into it but it’s that whole conversation of equality opportunity a quality of outcome and it’s hard to force a quality of outcomes and we’re realizing that around you know around the world really in terms of that Schism between what’s the difference between the two quality of opportunity are are enough young black people being afforded the opportunity to get into Personnel GM analytics our ownership exposed to them or they exposed to like Bill hired a million lacrosse coaches I mean and lacrosse players find a more privileged game yeah you know so to me that is in essence too what you have to look at people are goingon to hire people who are recommended to them and if the circle of people like I found you and listen to you and Brian and said oh I want to I want to use them I want to learn from them I want to have I want to introduce people to these guys cuz cuz like them but I could have stayed in whatever small circle I was in and and you know brought people in that that I only knew you know just keep going with Rees and Phil and you know Bert I mean but you know who’s that help anyway no I mean it’s a fair point and that’s where it kind of gets tricky because at one point like if you have someone like a Shanahan who’s grown up and watched the game from such a young age and has a completely different perspective you can act like that person isn’t still worthy of some type of opportunity because obviously they have just so much built-in knowledge is it fair maybe not but that’s the reality we’re trying to win football games this is a business but at the same time like you said it’s incumbent on ownership to actually create the opportunities where I’d love that you said actually like who you’re seeing and who you’re interacting with because to say you hired a bunch of like black employees but they really only get so far and they only speak to certain people that’s not really helpful because they need to also get the experience and have it be a mutually beneficial situation versus just doing it because you’re checking a box and then it’s like all right well now we’re kind of stuck in the basement but we never got an opportunity to see how the sausage was made how we could Advance ourselves elsewhere and you never really gave us a fair shot so starting to show off on a heavy message but it is an interesting conversation one that it is it is Dan thanks for the question buddy thank you brother all right we’re gonna change topics get to something a little more lighthearted but first quick word from our friends at prize picks be right back get it on the playoff action and went up to a 100 times your money on of Drake May action did that was a good read by you on that on that ad thank you buddy appreciate it um all right so did Drake May really look like he could be the guy especially with Milton competing next to him I will give the caveat of these were rookie mini camps yeah we didn’t learn much of anything we got first impressions and that’s it so no definitive statements can be made but what were your first impressions actually seeing Drake May on the field and what he was going through with the Patriots coaching staff first impressions are there is he was basically playing catch so there is absolutely as Taylor said nothing to indicate he can or cannot be the guy what were my first impressions that he is as advertised he’s enthusiastic he fills the suit out better than the last number 10 he’s got a good arm his feet are kind of messed up he’s robotic as he tries to process what he’s trying to do and Joe Milton’s arm blows his away all the things that I presume the Patriots drafted him for were the things that he can do going forward so we’re going to see a little ball of clay and people have to understand that when we say what are we looking at we’re gonna say it’s a ball of quay that the Patriots are going to try and turn into a franchise quarterback do you agree with that I mean he’s not a franchise quarterback JJ McCarthy today is a better player than Drake May he’s he is a better football player he better get blown away by the results of Drake May’s Improvement but right now he’s not better than any of the guys who were drafted around him okay so that actually leads I’ll I’ll give my take but that kind of leads into another question that’s on here so transition Tom why don’t you want a quarterback with a Canon for an arm I thought the arm of a JJ or Mac was not something you liked so obviously I think this is kind of in just but at the end of the day what is the take so that our listeners can understand why you’re still more on the JJ McCarthy bandwagon than Drake May at this point in their careers because JJ McCarthy’s arm is absurdly good it’s not it is it’s not even comparable to M Jones you watch the Ohio State game where he throws one pass behind the ear of a dropping linebacker who just turned his back through to basically a tiny window from 40 yards it never gets more than eight feet off the ground absolute laser then you watch I think it was Alabama where he throws a 60 yard pass from his own 40 with a flick of the wrist and that one never gets 30 feet above ground sea level to me anyone who’s saying that JJ McCarthy doesn’t have enough arm isn’t understanding what J.J McCarthy’s all about I like JJ McCarthy because he’s a better athlete in terms of foot speed and elusiveness than Drake may I like him better because of the arm strength and knowing where it’s going not saying that he’s got a better arm than Drake may i’ call it much closer to a dead fraking heat though than people understand I like him more because of his footwork and polish and I like it more because his team wins a lot and you saw a North Carolina team that started out six and0 and finished seven and4 and at the end of the season Drake May was at his worst do I think Drake May is gonna suck absolutely not I think he could conceivably if all BLX are checked be just like Drew bledo good quarterback promising quarterback goes to some Pro bowls but his accuracy ends up holding him back so that’s my JJ McCarthy pitch which is more supportive of him than hating on Drake but I’m I do have that arrow in my quiver if he does not improve I will say I do like that you’re highlighting the things about JJ McCarthy’s game that people don’t give him credit for one he is a really good athlete I think he and Drake are different I definitely think they’re areas of like running where JJ’s better but then Drake I think is also like LED his team in rushing as a freshman he’s still a pretty good athlete at the same time I think the inaccuracy stuff kind of plays to both sides where I will say McCarthy’s more accurate especially underneath like he’s pretty automatic there but I think when you get downfield and outside especially is where you start to worry because like I was a guy and like the crossers beautiful and he’s I think a great example of the difference between arm strength and arm Talent where I would say yeah McCarthy has fantastic arm strength but if you watch like I would have like a compilation of his deep throws it’s one speed we’re really great back shoulder and you’re like oh that was awesome but it’s like oh now he’s hitting the defender in the back of the head he can’t put this can he put it over the guy where it’s you start to wonder where is it a physical limitation where is Drake you see the inaccuracy but you’ve also seen him make the throw multiple times it’s more all right repeat it but you can make any throw so for me that’s where the kind of difference is where McCarthy has plenty of things he needs to work on like even can you throw a wheel route like for instance Drake may I bet throws a better wheel route at this point than JJ McCarthy yeah wheel routes are you going to throw in the course of a game how many Slants how many in cuts how many digs you’re GNA throw more of those J.J McCarthy does it better and we on Saturday didn’t we a little bit with Drake May they’re running digs they’re running comebacks they’re running Slants and the ball is complete but it’s complete here right or it’s complete here those are the things that that make a difference but the funny thing is and that’s why this is such a fun job you can say that M Jones was a more accurate quarterback than anybody in the last draft but as he got more and more unsure of himself self everything turned into a fraking change up I mean wasn’t it unbelievable some of the things that he decided to put air under yeah it was rough especially that Dallas game there was that the first mistake he made that was really bad I remember being like whoa that was like Whiplash I’ve never seen him do that like in college let’s give him another shot and by the end of the game I I don’t know if you were following my tweets that day I was like mentally unraveling where I’m just like I’ve never seen this from an NFL quarterback this is insane even Cam Newton you know for all his struggles like we never saw anything like that so yeah that was the Confluence of average athleticism and bad decision making yep and that’s what you get you can’t compete against uh Trayvon Diggs or who’s the dude Bland was it Bland yeah donon Bland yeah you can’t compete against those guys throwing 71 yeah yeah I I I I still agree I think I think Drake is more Pro ready but I also understand why JJ is in the conversation like especially with that he more Pro ready because the measurables or is he more Pro ready because of what his talent is on today May 12th or whatever it is for Drake I think it’s one he has the talent to do anything you ask of him like play book is wide open from day one that’s the biggest thing I don’t think that’s true with JJ I think with JJ you’re projecting that you can have the Playbook wide open but you’re like oh he has the talent we just got to get him there with Drake I think I think the inverse is true really I think the inverse is true I think I would trust JJ McCarthy more to do more things for me at this juncture than Drake May and I bet some of that has to do with coaching yeah one guy played with Jim Harbaugh for Jim Harbaugh for however long and the other guys had rotating coaches and an offensive coordinator change so I think that I would trust JJ McCarthy more right now today talk to me in two years this is going to be a fun one that you and I are G to go back and forth on this season wishing the success for both of them but it is going to be really interesting especially since JJ’s probably going to get out there gonna get the opportunity sooner God look at the Mondays all right we got more questions couple more for you guys but first quick word from our friends at game time last F be paid be right back with the NBA playoffs in full swing and the Celtics looking like the best team light on a player that I feel like is getting a little bit more hype as we’re getting close closer to actually putting uh the shorts and t-shirts on and seeing that consistently but Jem Bell now seventh round pick obviously there’s nothing you can really expect from those guys necessarily but he was one of my favorite values in the entire draft I thought he was a steal and I loved how he looked on that first day that we got yeah play of the day in terms of tracking a throw from I believe it was Drake May over his shoulder the kind of throw that maybe JJ can’t make right now um a nice lofted pass that we saw this operation from Jem Bell tracked well had to curl made the play um he’s fast he’s Shifty what was his yards per catch or yards after catch last year top five or something among tight ends was yeah like nine yards or something like that sorry I to get my cord out but I think he’s gonna be a developmental guy but there’s opportunity there Austin Hooper and Hunter Henry are I mean Austin Hooper’s probably toast yeah solid three is what I’ll say the M the May party line is well maybe you’re gonna get something out of probably not probably not I do think Jem Bell probably has a path to playing time over I would say so Austin Hooper knows the offense that is a pretty big look up for him but in terms of role I think Jem Bell can just do a lot of different things for you where one thing about seeing him in person that I saw on tape but wanted to see if it confirmed like in in person he’s fast this really is explosive athlete he’s stiff which makes it kind of odd to kind of put it all together he’s got kind of narrow hips but you do see the speed and the explosiveness when he’s coming off the line which makes me think he can be a legitimate downfield threat and he’s got the you know he can play fullback he can play in the slot you don’t want him in line very often but he can do it and that’s how you get him up the scene and kind of behind defenses and for whether it’s Drake May or jacobe Brett I think they’re gonna like that yeah HB type player which I don’t think HB really exists as much as it used to but remember back in the day the Patriots drafted a kid named Garrett Mills yeah kind of a Garrett Mills type so it’ll be interesting to see what they get out of him and and remember Hooper too I could be wrong if he rolls the clock back to the guy who was with Atlanta when he was scoring touchdowns against the Patriots in 16 that’s a good thing yeah I think it’ll be a solid receiver on I think he’s kind of like a hunter Henry where he knows what he’s doing he’s a big Target just don’t expect a ton of like explosive plays all right last one we’re going to do this is an interesting one what player has the best preseason but doesn’t make the team for me I’m going with KJ Osborne whoa hate saying this I hate saying this because I love the person I think he’d be great in the locker room and I do think he’s got a professional skill set that would go well for this team my thing is I think ja Javon Foster and Jaylen poke are gonna start immediately at least be regular contributors where the way that they can contribute I think is better than what you’re G to get from a KJ Osborne who’s kind of strictly that Z like I think Jaylen pok’s a better run blocker so I think he’s gonna kind of bump him in that role and you still got Kendrick Bourne now if you get Jaylen ragger who shows that he’s still a really good option on kick returns or special teams and if tawon Thorton shows that he can just be a rotational deep threat the kind of speed that they don’t have on the roster I understand they gave KJ Osborne a lot of money and again I think if they hadn’t drafted two receivers I would feel differently but he’s on a one-year deal no one on a one-year deal is guaranteed a roster spot and if you get three young receivers even um not Jaylen rer even Kon booty if he ends up making the team y he has some kind of jump you’re not getting rid of a guy on his first contract or someone like Jaylen rager who has special teams value for a veteran on a one-year deal who might end up being your wide receiver four or five that’s maybe a hot take but I just don’t think he’s as much of a roster lock as he’s being made out to be as much as I’d love to see him make the team I think that take is smoking I think that is a smoking hot take because to me KJ Osborne could ostensibly be wide receiver one even though I hate using those words I think he could be the number one target because he’s starting from scratch with everybody and you know Alex Vel and Drake May and jacobe brassette included I think you get the most experienced guy who is going to really I think Javon Baker is gonna he’s not gonna get cut but I think it’s gonna be a little bit of a root Awakening for him the Spectrum there that’s one of my guys oh it’ll be fine say about pop last year he’s my pop this year he’ll be fine long term he’ll be fine I just think the pool is a little deeper than he thinks as he dives into it okay um so to me I think the pul will probably be start again could be Ron I think Osborne’s gonna be more than safe but I gotta give you somebody and give you some time bestas let me give you the best Camp then give you the best Camp Joey Sly Joey Sly folks okay sign kicker he’s GNA have the best preseason but won’t make the team because uh why am I thinking his name is Ras or it’s not [Laughter] R because Chad Ryland is is gonna be just drilling him from 67 gonna all right we’ll give him another shot Joey stay loose we might be calling you I’m rooting for Jad but I you’re not wrong this is a this is gonna be a very big summer for him but obviously the highs last year were pretty high so hopefully we’ll see more of that and keep going if you want to you sure okay we’ll get give me two give me two and I get a scoop all right so here’s one um any schedule predictions guessing the Prime Time games will be a minimum but do you think they’ll build in some Flex options later in the season considering Drake May status I’m gonna pull up actually um oh my gosh where’s the screen I don’t know where it went I’m gonna pull up the opponent so we have something to go off of because very difficult to just go off memory all right got it right here the beauty of live shows all right present oh are we live right now oh yeah oh shoot see we tape everything oh yeah oh yeah I I’m just so used to it at this point I I should probably give me hands up my bad but we’re doing great let me put on the specs what are you thinking for here now I do think the Bears are gonna end up being in the second half of the season because I think they’re gonna want Caleb Williams versus Drake May if it’s possible yeah um I don’t think that Drake May is gonna start soon enough I think they’re going to try to like line it up though like it’ll be match up they have and that’s an away game yeah yeah yeah I think that that would make sense as a Prime Time game the Patriots are not an attractive team they went four and 13 their brand was completely you know identified with Bill bellich and Tom Brady Drake May’s an unknown quantity it might not be starting there’s nobody on the sidelines to focus on except for Gerard mayo and Alex Van Pelt and Demarcus Covington it’s just it’s they are they are with a Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans were 10 years ago pretty much primee time gamesan let’s see the Cardinals feel you have to you have to have a Monday you have to have a Thursday right right Thursday’s probably going to be a divisional game I think that’s probably GNA be like Jets or something oh always y yeah yeah all right so Sunday night who are two Sunday Night Football games that you think we’re GNA see they’re not going to get any Sunday Night Football games I think they’ll get one with Buffalo one with Buffalo late in the season the possibility of a Herbert versus Josh Allen and they have to give him some kind of Prime Time game that wa Herbert versus Josh Allen oh I’m sorry May coming down versus Josh Allen he’s a he went seven and four in North Carolina that’s not fair he is not a draw he I Drake May is absolutely a draw and plus he’s not a draw they’re not even gonna start him at the beginning of the year I I think he’s starting at least half I think earliest honestly I could see him starting on a camp it wouldn’t be realistic I could see it but I do think by the last quarter of the Season Drake May will be the starting quarterback okay I put the over under at Halloween okay but I don’t think it’s gonna be a close competition in Camp I think he was going to be there would be no one who could objectively look at what’s gonna go on in Camp and say yeah Drake May’s ready disagree Kobe brassette I mean we got to see that because we saw it on day fraking two and three between Mack and cam like the ball comes out a second and a half quicker and accurate with Cam it was a second and a half slower inaccurate and it was easy this is he’s going Brett’s gonna be more accurate and get rid of the ball quicker and Joe Milton’s gonna have the second best arm is going to have the best arm among the three of them he’s gonna okay so Joe Milton has the most arm strength on the team armed talent I would put him behind May and uh jacobe brassette because he justes nowhere to put it I love the arm I love how far he can put it but like you don’t know that yet from what I’ve seen from what unless he’s made some huge strides since the combine but you don’t know that yet okay so let’s just try and give them two Prime Time games one can we agree Buffalo late in the season is that okay we’ll give them Buffalo late in the season we’ll give them the Jets as well they’re going to be at the Jets think that’s going to be a Monday night game yeah yeah I do I like that I like that yeah because you want if you’re Miami you want you want Miami if you’re NBC you want Miami against like Kansas City or the Ravens or somebody interesting yeah I think they’re gonna have two uh one o’clock games obviously they usually do them like beginning and then the end of the season so probably like first month they’re going to end up going to Miami is there like a thing where they try to avoid going to Miami early in the when the sun gets like really crazy or is it completely no they hose them they’ve hosed them Time After Time After Time with that game um now we’re probably alternates a little bit sometimes it alternates you know sometimes it’s a later in the season situation but either way it’s difficult even if you’re going down there for the Patriots even if you’re going down there in December it’s still 82 degrees and you’ve been living in 40 degree weather so it’s an adjustment yeah or if you go down in September it’s I mean I just remember that game with Antonio Brown on the field in 2019 it was so obscenely hot that opener or maybe second week of the season oh was so hot this year was pretty rough I happened to be sitting under like one of the most aggressive vents I’ve ever experienced in my life and it was just blowing cold air I’m sitting there with like shorts and a like a Hawaiian shirt thinking I’m looking all cute in the warm weather literally my teeth were chattering like Phil and like Chris Mason were like dude are you okay like I’m really just I can’t even think I barely knew what was going on in the game I’m like I’m trying to survive I’m my mind under this vent so whatever it is I hope they’re very modest with the cold air but then the one other prediction I’ll make on this schedule and then we can move on is I do think that the Cardinals in 49ers are probably going to be right around the bye back to back well that’s a good point too get those two jammed in together and out of the way I mean what’s to me I like to look at what’s the best trip you could make and it’s a tough season for trips Tennessee obviously is is the best trip then you’d probably say Arizona you hope that’s early in the year for people who like to go out and golf so hopefully that happens Chicago’s okay you don’t want Chicago late in the year that’s gonna be rough no from Chicago by Soldier Field San Fran you go into fraking San Jose and who wants to be in San Francisco with this juncture Jacksonville is Jacksonville and Cincinnati Cincinnati it’s really a good year to save your money yeah yeah you don’t have to travel to watch a 31 to7 uh pounding and you get to save your money yeah oh man this there are some like real juggernauts like I think the Seahawks the Colts and the Chargers are going to be really obviously the Rams like their home schedule is pretty fire but then yeah I some of the away games are probably hit or miss I think Titans might end up being the first game and that makes me feel like the Jaguars are going to be kind of close in that vicinity toic though in Tennessee say it again Bud remember open 2012 in Tennessee yes I do yeah yep I remember I uh didn’t have my ifb we were about to go live I got all the way down on the field I didn’t re I realized I didn’t have it I ran all the way back up to the Press Box came back down by the time they got back down I got back down they had skipped me and I launched my ifb into the stands and then had to go find it oh my that’s that’s journalism so that’s just yet another instance of me being uncomposed losing my poise and then having to slink after something after I throw my tantrum but you made it work you made it work eventually 1. I think Tom is great at what he does but he’s stuck on the viewing the QB from an old school perspective. He loved Mac until the end lol. Drake Maye isn’t your traditional qb and he’s struggling to see that. Hopefully AVP recognizes that and doesn’t mess him up and try to turn him into a pocket qb. He’s a playmaker.

  2. The only reason JJ is gonna succeed is he’s walking into an already established offense with Justin Jefferson, Addison, and hockenson. Then watch they do well and Curran is going to be saying I was right all along while we’re still sitting Drake.

  3. Have 75 t shirts printed up ready to give them to the coaches the fans the player personnel and the reporters covering patriots nation.

  4. Rooney Rule is horrible. As a minority myself, I would hate to be invited to interview because of the color of my skin, to check a box. Next, Curran smoking crack on the Drake Maye discussion, thinking JJ is better than Maye.

  5. So glad we focused on draft with the smart people in the room then finalized positions and titles. Obviously hired a black coach. Get over your issues with Rooney Rule

  6. I agree and also disagree with Tom. Maye is unquestionably more talented. JJ is more day one ready, in terms of hitting the layup throws. Projection is on Drakes side 100%

  7. Well, that was another interesting take from Curran. According to him Maye has just a "good" arm and could end up being Bledsoe….

  8. So sick of hearing people whine about the “Rooney Rule”. To force a company to put on sham interviews so a checkbox can be checked is ludicrous. 🙄

  9. Tom Curran has been a joke for quite some time now. And he knows it. That the new guys coming in is much better than him. So what does he do? He goes for the controversial position that he knows will bring some air time. To some he looks fresh, to most of us he looks like a fool.

  10. Race based hiring and hiring practices are violation of federal employment laws. It's intentional racial discrimination designed to "combat" perceived but unproven racial discrimination

  11. Even the Vikings would have preferred Drake over JJ. Tom is so off on this, he's been anti-Drake for months. At least 90% of scouts/analysts would say Drake is a significantly better prospect than JJ. How the hell does he know if JJ is pro ready now? Barely saw him throw the ball in college. Taylor is trying so hard to be polite, definitely holding a lot back.

  12. No, we’re saying how can you judge a guy from an offense that ran the ball 61% of the time? He never had the game put on his shoulders & win the game through the air. Did he ever play from behind?

  13. New England drafted Drake Maye because the front office knew that the general Patriot ticket holders and fans leaned towards and badly wanted Drake Maye. So now all you geniuses got what you wished for. So remember to pick your jaws off the ground when Joe Milton beats out Maye for the starting QB.

  14. Curran is unbearable lately. Even Phil is tired of his shit. We're all tired of his shit…

  15. wow, what a load of sh1t…..dei woke rooney rule nonsese…..

no Milton doesn't have a " much better arm " than Maye – to claim as such is stupid.

idk how this trash podcast popped up on my feed….down vote and block

  16. Curran is a knob. He knows shit but insists he is always right. JJ is not a franchise qb but excellent college qb.

  17. I understand Tom’s like for JJ McCarthy. He’s got a lot of talent. He reminds me of Zach Wilson, excellent arm, excellent mobility, played tougher competition though.

But my one big concern about McCarthy is, they never really asked him to win a game, it was never really on his shoulders. Michigan had a GREAT defense and a GREAT running game, and a great OLine. I watched him for 2 years, so I liked him a lot, but he didn’t have to throw a lot. I think he had five 300 yard games in 2 seasons.

Drake Maye, the offense was 85% him. They depended on him so much more than Michigan depended on McCarthy. Also, he didn’t have a great OLine or running game. The run game was decent, but everything was on Maye.

I like that Maye faced adversity, he wasn’t on a great team. He had to scratch and fight. I like that about Maye, I think he’s a tough guy behind that golly gee personality.

Also, when we talk about mobility, Maye had more rushing yards than anyone other than Daniels in the top 4. Had over 1200 yards and 16 rushing TDs the last 2 years. Maye is an athlete.

I agree, McCarthy will get off to a great start, Minnesota has two great receivers, a great TE, and a very good Oline. He will start out better than Maye. But as the Pats build around Maye, within a year or two, he will be better than McCarthy. There’s a reason Maye went 3rd and McCarthy went 10th.

  18. Tom Curran so far up Brady’s ass he’s blind that JJ is not Brady just because he went to the same college

  19. Curren has officially jumped the shark! This whole McCarthy thing is ridiculous! If you want to report and follow the kid, then move to Minneapolis, and don’t let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya!

  20. Wild Taylor thinks Maye is the QB who is more or ready than JJ. The point of drafting Maye is his ceiling and JJ is his floor. JJ has much better footwork, mechanics, worked in a pro offense in college, worked with a cadence in college, worked under center a ton, I mean Maye had ONE snap under center in college 😂.
