Want to chip the ball closer? Play links golf in Scotland. Jamie and I went to the Craighead course at Crail just 12 miles from StAndrews. Jamie is a bunker wizard and I managed a few low links chips to post a score. Without being able to play bunker, chip, and pitch shots from all lies you will find it hard to shoot the scores you desire. With practice on firm, fast greens you quickly become proficient. The faster and firmer, the better you will become.

right we’re on sun’s out I’m in 5 Scotland so I’m just 12 miles from St Andrews St Andrew is up that way if I turn left along the coast St Andrews is up there we are at cril golfing society today myself and Jimmy Allen Jimmy is up there somewhere CR golfing Society was formed in 1786 two courses Balcom links that’s the oldest course today we’re on the Craig Head Links which is the newer of the two obviously and I’m going to read you a little bit of information from their website it’s no accident the members play Craig had as much as the old course the course a very different challenge to the links of Balcom but no less memorable Gil Hans the acclaimed American architect designed the course to be at one with the cliff toop environment and ancient medieval walls at full length Craig Head Links has hosted national International championships from expertly placed tea boxes golfers of all levels play spectacular holes surrounded by breathtaking Coastal views game on you have arrived at your destination on the right [Music] [Music] Jimmy what a day it’s cracking eh where are you I’m here I’m hiding behind you Craig Head we’re going to play six hle t a scramble yeah that’s the plan that plan that’s two man scramble guys so laid back even know after the solid but solid butt oh yeah good so 290 down wind down down ra half four is that is it take loads off well not too much but yeah that should be fine a good light hey J we’ve taken your ball obviously that took quite a hard kick it did it’s it’s gone about 30 yards further than mine it fairly good was perfect that was really good didn’t really spin very much though it’s tried it checked tried it bit oh that way to spin we’ll take yours H I think so yeah hey J pop it in let’s get a birday this will be all yours wish the somewhere hey mate stronger one than I thought 18 180 to the middle I’ve got a six G six IR looks further than that he does it’s prob 230 is it 180 it’s 180 yeah 180 to the middle of green that’s just flew Big Time sit oh it’s big is it that is big that came out there like a rock it hey J what you got I got seven yeah I took six I got a major flyer just ging against the flyer there there’s wind up there though there is a bit of wind I think it just came off with no spin though a good line just tailing off right as well started on the flag wow what happens when you play golf in the wind in Scotland wow I think we’ve missed the green is that a Miss green I don’t like to say that so mine flew through the back by about 40 yards up there somewhere J me a bit of elevation change here slightly yeah didn’t realize it was this sloppy this might give some golfers a nightmare but let hope for the best go for it you flying up there or you bumping it trying to generate a we bit spin I’m going to open the face up a we bit and feel like I just releast the club head a little bit earlier keep the Loft on the club face the more Loft you’ve got the more spin you want to we more down it so quy they can’t stop that I’m going to um got an eight iron so this is the opposite you did you try to generate the spin I’m going to try and run this try and use the Contour that’s just experience we’re just we’re both at the same distance yeah quite a difficult shot though very change very trick so we’re about what 4 ft yeah 4T uphill right to the left there a lot off the right is there yeah give it a bit speed right in the middle y glad you’re here there we go even the I took part of the B ho five par 3225 it’s playing Jimmy you’re thinking five iron well it’s 230 to the middle but it’s 25 to the front of the green so what’s the carry off the back uh 244 to the back again I’m not going to hit 5 on 250 left oh gee so we’ve missed the green again pins hardly moving there’s quite a bit of wind there it’s a tricky PA through this though small class J yeah that is tried to use the bouncy I tried to use the middle of the grind yeah let that thrown a little bit down thef right hold it your turn I’ll try and hold it try my best what was that used 54 you’ve got 58 yeah great kick forward so Steve your uh experience of Links Golf for North B paid off there with that shot easy hey all those days of just mucking about in The Links before the internet before the internet for the Nokia before snake Nokia was the future back then Jammy par five 552 we’re one under par only one only one but it’s a course we’ve not played well I’ve played before but you haven’t so local knowledge is not really such a thing just in case of winging it what Jamie doesn’t really know is I actually have played it before just not letting on yeah good shot than hey J 260 my ball your ball Ball’s just semi rough so yeah yours in a better position no not really I’ve got six I’m just we’ll just play for position I guess see yep we still got four that’s fine straight down the middle sorry for leaving you there J it’s fine what have you got what club I’ve got five five okay I’m just going to basically just kick it forward 82 yards 82 yards play I had six iron there my second shot back into play got we’re not doing too well here 82 y loads of P to the right 82 yeah go actually hit that heavy actually chunk that it’s not too bad it’s not disaster so we’re on down haai so ball goes back in your stance to allow for that go forward and just let’s get this close let’s get this close was going to launch lower so I need to guard against that that was good so convection in that main was justful spin big wow we’re all over the place back Jimmy we all over the place here H we’re not we’re not position just as yet I’m not hey Jamie we’ve left ourselves a nice little 25 footer for birday it’s all right though left a challenge leave it long with that shot but then what are you see in here left to right left to right yeah two cups same way [Music] got though hardly hardly moved not hardly moved jimm didn’t move at all I didn’t really hit it very hard though this has to go oh go tap in this is a little bit slower than prob we played last week yeah it’s an easy five is a not the end of the world but not great but okay seventh hole par three look at that that is absolutely stunning oh my God so 197 jimie we’re one under par it’s not we’re one under we’re not exactly cruising for a scramble but do you know what we’re enjoying the sunshine this a par 31 197 into the breeze what have you got j five iron five iron 1 197 I’m going to punch four four I’ll see where you go first I think five is probably right actually just long straight draw just right Edge start on the flag and just start cutting a we bit just hung to the right edge of the green all way didn’t it yeah that was five that was five but it’s don’t know 10 10 years longer looks like that pin’s high off the end of the green yeah but visually but Vis exactly there’s probably loads of land at the back of the screen going to punch four hard to see it down but I tell you what I couldn’t hit any better that was a go shot four iron was a club was four iron boom J it was the ulate four iron it was one two 10 ft penr woo golf shot on this it’s going left toight get behind me and watch what I do I make a mess of it it’s all yours I expectations there absolutely make a mess of it I uh that’s pretty strange specul just looks like like Ed so that was left Edge so like half a ball outside the left Edge yeah a good bit ping it a good bit of what bit p in that got the pace part that was poor never leg a put short I just awesome you when your golf there’s a couple of guys behind you but I just want to play like 100 m hour and the weather’s like this you may take your time and enjoy it all that’s not their Style hey J 197 197 yeah shot far five you’re taking six got six okay down Breeze I’m going five I’m purely thinking elevation change yeah 197 go for it man let’s get let’s finish my body TR come on where’s the drawing let’s try it yeah good I think that’s very good where’s the draw when you need that I think that is the club six six is a club I mean even if you’re short pins at the back you still got fly through the back here it’s not the easiest shot in the world to come back straight downhill from the back of the green La isn’t it it’s okay though I was pin high right there Jamie a good shot in we man’s nailed one be great to finish two under three under what you thinking um I’m thinking where a pitch mark is but don’t think there’s any such thing I think I think you landed short yeah it’s going to be downhill slightly down that was that was 10 Jimmy pieces so that’s so that’s about 60 ft five this has to Wi in this does have to Wi in you’re right well we’re R under this is for the eagle yeah but it’s going to go in good man got to actually hit it to get there so Steve now putting for the eagle you reckon that breaks to the right it’s going to go right to left down the hill yeah well 100% sure it does did you just finish off by tailing off that way yeah I’ll under hit it took more break oh just hit it too hard tap that in leave it short after the chat you just gave me tap that in Easy J it’s been awesome it’s h been a grind it’s been okay today has been fantastic CR Craig Head Links looks in fantastic condition jam and I finished two under power for our six hole scramble not our best golf we’ll come back we’ll play better next time thanks very much
