PGA Tour, PIF talks lack ‘clear vision’ for future | Live from the PGA Championship | Golf Channel

heavy talk about the state of the game what’s the vision doesn’t seem to be one at the moment confusing exhausting Wall Street Journal with a headline everybody is sick and tired of the PGA toward live golf fight no argument but it’s still a story and what happens over the next year will Define the professional game for decades to come well I think we we’re working on um negotiations with with piff um it’s ongoing it’s fluid it Chang is dayto day uh has it been progress yes um but it’s it’s an ongoing negotiation so um a lot of work ahead for all of us U with this process and so we we’re making steps and it may not be Giant Steps but we’re making steps 20 so what are the just just following on from that what are the specific things that you would like to that you would like to see for a deal to go ahead and are you are you personally open to a deal with the Saudis well I’m not going to comment on whether or not uh our negotiations and in that nature except that we’re we’re making steps um that’s all I can say are you are you personally open to it I’m personally in in the involved in the process I think things are things are um unfortunately put in a really bad light right now and I think things are actually in a really really good place um based on what I know um which is quite a lot in this situation and uh I I think things are moving forward at a speed that both sides are probably frustrated at each other at different times when um they’re trying to get a hold of each other I mean there’s a lot of other things going on as well but in general um everyone in on our side I believe are rowing the boat the right direction um together the same direction together and uh I believe we’re going to end up in a really good place place and I’m I just continue to kind of chuckle because I only feel positive momentum when we’re actually having these internal conversations and then every time anything comes from the outside world it’s the opposite and uh it just kind of makes me chuckle a bit because it’s a bit frustrating um so I hope our fans and um fans of golf are aware that you know people are trying to to do the right thing and the same thing together it just it’s going to take a little bit of time to figure out exactly what that looks like I don’t like where it’s going it’s got to be exhausting to be a casual golf fan at this point in time I don’t know why you would want to hear about the business side of this uh game as a fan of other sports I do not care about the business side of what the Lakers and Dodgers are doing uh it so yeah I I it is troubling however it it’s just difficult because we come here and this you know yesterday was slam packed and it was awesome and everyone just seems like in such a good in such good spirits to just see us playing you know somewhat meaningless practice around when it you know in to in their point of view so it’s it’s it’s tough to kind of completely figure out I hope at some point soon we can just get back to entertaining people and playing golf and seeing who who shoots low score uh and not talking about uh what our player advisory council is going to do and who the the fans of golf should not know who’s on the board like that just seems like a pretty obvious one here here now to John ROM in his press conference today he was asked when you are looking from the other side which is where you are now live golf what are your thoughts so you guys keep saying the other side but I’m still a PJ to remember whether suspended or not I still want to support the PGA Tour uh and I think that’s an important iction to make I don’t feel like I’m on the other side I’m just not playing there that’s at least personally um I wouldn’t know what to say cuz it would just be uh not here say but hypothetical cuz I don’t know what’s going on right um I haven’t really spoken enough to to know about what’s going on on the board and you know obviously people are not going to be willing to be sharing that information with me since I’m no longer a part of those discussions so uh I could couldn’t really tell you I I I’m going to say what I’ve said all along I hope we reached a resolution um and in a resolution that’s that’s beneficial for everyone but uh I couldn’t really tell you much about what’s happening hly what do you make of those comments from John Ron yeah I mean look I mean broadly you look at what he said and you know it’s what we all want you know he wants Unity he wants some kind of a resolution uh it’s important that we make the right steps so we should take our time whatever that’s step may be but you know I can understand why the guys were so upset afterwards and you know Aaron um in particularly was very upset as a PGA Tour member um you know because he ignored John ignored the impact that Liv has had on the game um and and also what has to be said as well too the weak governance of the PGA Tour contributed to this um you know as independent Traders and the members organization the players were open for this hostile takeover um that we’ve seen from from Saudi as they’ve come in here and and nicked a lot of the players and and taken them over there so so that’s kind of the mess that we’re in at the moment and this mess has created a situation where the players have really gained the guys guys who have gone to live have made an absolute Fortune but the guys in the PGA Tour are making an absolute Fortune too they’re playing for two two three times the amount of money they were before and um you know a lot of 30 or 40 of the of their competitors are off the pitch so we have a situation here where um you know the losers are obviously the public as well as the corporate sponsor so golf is in a mess that’s where we’re at at the moment we kind of all know where where that is but there’s a lot of public aathy towards uh the game at the moment and there’s a lot of things to be fixed in the game and there’s a lot of Envy among the players towards each other and all all I can see and all we can hear from is that we’re a long way from any kind of the idea that he took he took the money as did some of the other guys and now he’s qu very quickly asking for peace absolutely I mean you know that that’s why you know it it doesn’t come across as genuine when you make those statements and and and and that’s the problem you know people can see that um and you know it’s it really is a mess it needs a Clear Vision somebody to take the Reigns drag the bull but horns and you know go this is our vision this is where we’re going you know and let’s start small I’ve said this before we don’t have to have a resolution on day one let’s start small um and and see where we go from there with a small kind of an agreement and maybe we’ve seen a start of it this week when we’re getting some of the uh you know some the PGA PGA of America have let some of of the Live players come in here on a special exemption yeah when I hear players uh from Liv talk like that I I think U you know their utter Lack of self awareness might be so great that it exceeds their considerable talents as they either directly or obliquely um blame others for the dividing the game they left and in doing so they they made the game they damaged the game and they divided the game and it seems to me like they want to come back and take credit for unifying the game and making it better and you know I think something they probably have not thought about is that if they did come back let’s say they they came back there was there was an alliance between the PGA Tour and piff which should be read the Saudis and NBS I think that would make the core golf audience I think they would recoil from that I don’t I don’t think they would be too enamored with that for some very obvious reasons and I’m not sure that they’re thinking that through it’s it’s a very difficult way to bring them back uh I don’t know that anybody’s going to sort that out but their continued Lack of self awareness that they C cause the problem but they want the glory for unifying the game and making the game more profitable for professional golfers long ways to go to as Paul said a resolution

  1. PGA is the one liv is like the championship not into it should stay a po art money is going to ruin it for all dearer prices the fan will loose not the players

  2. The PGA Tour is slowly crawling to a position where it's not essential to the game of golf. YouTube is toppling its viewership numbers, LIV is gaining strength, and it's players are acting like children who didn't get their way. The PGA Tour players need to wakeup before the top players leave them for a Tour that cares about it's players.

  3. The pga players are getting 3 times more now, and why is that because of liv plain and simple so get off your high horse about liv golf players wanting unity unfairly they have helped the pga all their lives/careers

  4. I missed a few of the players that went to LIV but have got used to not seeing them now. Tried watching LIV golf, no interest in what feels like exhibition golf, boring. Don’t care if I never see them again now. Bye, enjoy the money.

The PGA demonised the whole LIV creation, blood money, etc, and then changed their tune because money talks. Too late guys, you can’t fix it just like that. The last few PGA events have been compelling, so leave LIV and it’s players out in the wilderness and make your events work without them.

  5. LIV is withering on the vine; along with the players….DJ cannot break 80 at Augusta, Koepka cannot break par at Augusta, Rahm ditto, so what's the big deal…? The younger players and rookies are intriguing and the Royster and Scotty and a few others are making great headway. LIV is exhibition golf and everybody is making bags of loot, but the LIV tour is trending in a bad way.

  6. A global golf tour is good for golf. The DP Tour and LIV are the most global tours. The PGA choose to stay predominantly in one country so they miss an opportunity
