T fairly or unfairly players of mooy’s ilk are judged by how they perform in the major championships brandle Rory said he’s a better player than he was in 2014 when he won the last two majors of the Season uh do you agree with that assessment why or why not look the best he’s driven the golf ball in his career was the year 2014 the best he’s hit his irons in his career was in 2012 he’s not quite ball striking wise the player he was from say 2012 to 2014 that’s a pretty high bar to keep up with but he’s more than made up for it uh to Todd’s Point to Paul’s point about how sharp he is around the greens and on the greens he’s made up for that difference so statistically he’s about the same player that he was in 2014 and all things being equal until there’s physiological decline experience is going to make you better so and his his top 10 percentage in major championships is higher than it was 2007 2014 his win percentage is higher he’s done some astronomically unbelievably good things but there is the disparity of what he does in major championships and what he does elsewhere what he did from 2007 to 2014 and what he’s done since then so from 2007 to 2014 you’ll see it right there he played in 92 rounds excuse me 92 rounds and he led or co-led after 17 of them now that’s upwards of a 20% lead rate 126 rounds from the 2015 Masters to the 2024 Masters and he has only LED two of them that’s less than 2% which begs the question why is he different because his game hasn’t fallen off he’s continued to play great he’s continued to blow people’s minds but when you look at that that time period there were really four major championships where it looked like he had it in his hand it looked like he could intimidate Patrick Reed 2018 Sunday he was three back but he missed it way right at one made bogey hit it about 3et for Eagle at two missed it bogey 35 there you see missed the p at the eight he only hit eight Greens in regulation he shot 74 okay a major Slips Away fast forward Tory Pines 2021 John Ram won but he began the day Rory did two back Louie usas it he Bogi 11 he doubles 12 you see him right here coming out of the bunker ends up in a terrible lie he would make bogey he would bogey 16 fewest Fairways fewest greens of the week 32 putts he would shoot 73 lost opportunity fast forward St Andrews looked like it was his to win or lose in the final group tied with Victor hin 36 putts on the day certainly it wasn’t all the putter because he wasn’t hit as his irons particularly close he hangs 70 up on the board we know what happened Cameron Smith came from well back and stunned the golf world fast forward to 2023 US Open he was one back beginning the final round at the LA Country Club and on the day he hit the fewest Fairways had this putt at the 11th to tie didn’t quite have the o to it but most people remember the wedge shot at the 14 now he didn’t find the Fairway so he laid up and with that whole location dangerously close to that bunker you can see it right there quits on it comes out of it sort of half committed this one gets tangled up in that Fescue around the bunker ends up making a big mistake there 34 putts on the day so those are four Prime opportunities that you had a feeling that he would just uh capitalize on from 2007 in that period to 2014 uh so again he he is he a better player yeah he is a better player in regular tour events but in major championships he hasn’t been able to Paul to find that magical place where he walks around with and I’m going to quote you with the pointy elbows uh in major championships I was watching him on Sunday and I thought if Paul were commentating he is walking around here here like I’m the guy nobody was GNA beat him last week nobody uh I just haven’t seen that look on a Sunday in a major championship in 35 major championships yeah I’d agree with that I mean very well summarized there brandle 100% agree with that I think there’s two issues going on as to why he’s not the player he was maybe back then when it comes to major championships I think the fields are stronger now he was a young guy coming out forging his way that’s when his pointy elbows were at the pointiest it was really get out of my way I’m on a march to be the top player in the game get out of my way he had this Clear Vision you know and as you get there and climb the mountain you know can you sustain that um I think he’s certainly done that on PGA Tour events where his one ratio of 10% is is fantastic compared to anybody else uh in that period of time phenomenal win ratio of 10% uh even Scotty sheffer’s only got a win percent ratio of 8% um so so that’s you know fantastic in those events but there’s no doubt there is a psychological um sort of um buildup from not getting over the line in these major championships that he hasn’t uh circumnavigated yet and I say yet because what if he gets it once I really do feel you know not maybe not the floodgates too you know there too much competition for that but certainly there’s another three or four majors in Rory maroy but it’s getting the first one and particularly when it comes to the the major that the Masters is completing the Grand Slam it’s such a big deal to win that as well as win a major not having won for 10 years that it’s always going to be very difficult you would have to think Golf Course like this inspired coming in in form golf course he’s won on before uh that’s the kind of thing that could ignite him and we could be primed for that but look we’ve said that so many times in the last 10 years he’s primed to win and it hasn’t happened when he needs a couple of things to happen for him at the right moment in time I go back to 201 uh4 when he won here he hit a necky Three Wood when he was out of position he’d lost the lead he’ lost the initiative and Nei tree wood gets a good kick bounces up to six feet mates Eagle pointy elbows come out and off he goes a good break at the right time Rich if he’s going to win this week he’s likely going to have to get uh by you know who world number one Scotty Sheffer

  1. He tied for the lead at the 2018 Open after he eagled 14 so that was another big chance, but parred the last four holes and molinari took it.
