what’s up adz sports live on a Monday G to be a huge week reacting to a draft class that we’ve been talking about and predicting and trying to figure out what it was gonna look like with Rand carthon and new Titans head coach Brian Callahan and now we have it the the full draft class there and we’ll also have some names trickling in for some undrafted free agents as well we’ve got the entire week uh to discuss and react this is the first time that Zack and I have been able to react to any of the draft picks on the air as uh we both had other things going on over the weekend Zach was in Detroit covering the NFL draft for adz Sports on the social media side and I was at a uh family wedding so I had a good time there at my brother’s wedding but now it’s moving forward with the NFL draft reaction and we will start at the top where JC leam did in fact go in the top 10 seventh overall to the Tennessee Titans was it worth it uh that is what we’re going to discuss this morning on also onew reactions from Zack and I know you guys gave your one word uh to Sam and Jack Friday morning on that and then uh we’ll dive deeper into our concern level about the biggest talking point about JC leam with the titans most of his time of the time today on leam before uh the rest of the draft class because we got plenty to talk about tandre sweat 38 and the five picks that were made on Saturday on day three so it is also the Age game while I’ll take a win at the top of the show uh I will probably take a loss so we’re gonna have a good show today Zach welcome in hope the uh the Motor City treated you uh well uh up there in Detroit yeah first time I’d ever been to Detroit enjoyed it will I make a trip back on a weekend no but it was enjoyable and you know for that event uh they did it very very well so I will golf clap Detroit I do think the numbers I’m going to talk about that tomorrow at the end of the show as far as the numbers are concerned being there live and in person but Friday morning uh so we’ll talk a lot about JC leam here uh but here is the full draft class to get this uh set the stage here for the Titans seven players over the three days JC L them in the first round seventh dandre sweat who is also getting a lot of uh conversation started at 38th overall no trades on Thursday or Friday and then Cedric gray Jarvis brownley jaquin Jackson James William Williams and Jaylen harrold were the five players drafted on uh Saturday so seven players two offensive five defensive very different than a year ago uh so any quick thoughts over the whole class before we move forward and and go back to a week ago today I’m Gonna Save my comments for the entirety of the class for tomorrow’s show okay I think we’re g to dive deeper into the levels I think they did just like most draft classes I mean you’re not going to get you don’t get a lot of f grades on draft classes at least you get one value guy at some point but I think uh I learned a little bit more about Rand carthon over this draft class which is what you do each and every draft pick I like some of his draft picks I question where he took some of his draft picks but there was one that I that made a lot of sense to me so we’ll we’ll talk about that tomorrow all right now uh with JC leam going seventh overall to the Titans let’s go rewind to last Monday just about exactly one week ago JC Lan is not going to be drafted in the top 10 that’s a fact right I don’t know I mean I don’t know about that I don’t think you could say that right now you can’t say that the Chargers could could draft it do I have a wager no I’m no I’m not saying I’m gonna bet on it Zack you just said there’s that he’s not going to be a top 10 I that’s what I’m saying I’ll bet you that he will no I’m just saying you can’t definitively say that the that’s why I’m saying I’m putting my money where my mouth is I will I’ll create a bet he’s not gonna get drafted in the top 10 if you think he is Let’s Make a wager no I’m not saying he is you said there’s no way he’s gonna be a top 10 pick which iag yeah Zack the Chargers could absolutely draft him at five because they have Slater as a left tackle and CJ JC l could be exactly what you think that that’s going to happen there I think there’s no way in hell I think there’s no way in hell that’s going to happen I just think you can’t speak definitively on just about anything other than Caleb after the draft and and you can run a Victory lap around my ass if if JC leam is drafted in the top 10 there is no way that he’s gonna be drafted in the top 10 I I think that there’s an outside chance it’s more likely that he’s not a top why are you like what I what makes you think that what makes me think what that he’s not a top 10 pick make a wager I’m no I’m not predicting it I’m there’s no way in hell he’s gonna get draft in the top 10 that’s just not where he’s slated it’s okay okay and nobody thought Cleveland Ferrell was gonna go four to the Raiders in 2019 but he did there we go then I don’t know how many times like a a quadruple down it might have been even more than I don’t know how to get to five uh into that accounting well hope hopefully he’s not feral right you don’t you you don’t want him to be that which you know we’ll talk about our one word so look now look money where my mouth is I was dead ass wrong and the Victory lap you’re circling the wagons I did see a couple people from the chat I saw it over look I we do this show we say things and we are wrong I admit I was wrong now should he have been a top 10 pick we’ll discuss that but he was a top 10 pick Edward goes if I was Zach I’d perfectly miss today’s show Eddie you must not know me I that’s not how I work if I say what I mean and I mean what I say but when I’m wrong you got to admit that you’re wrong I was wrong and then Corey says you should have bet me you would have been $200 richer you did not take the same path as just saying who won a hat yeah uh because he was with you Austin and JC leam I have my opinions on how this got to where it was I did not think he was a top 10 pick ends up he goes seven overall so Austin you were right and I was wrong and look again I was never predicting that JC leam was going to be a top 10 pick I just had a feeling that you never know what’s going to happen and it felt like in the days leading up to the NFL draft really starting about that Monday that JC Lam’s name had been rising and finding it a landing spot higher than where he had been for like the three months before the Chargers at five the Titans at seven the Jets at 10 could have all been spots for JC leam in fact those were the three top 10 spots that went offensive tackle and uh you know also said that the worst case scenario for the Titans draft would be picking the second tackle at the seventh spot not trading back and that’s what happened I think a lot of our opinions will probably differ from what the pre-draft process was as we’ve learned more but that the whole point of You Never Say Never and you never say there’s no way in hell that something’s not GNA happen with somebody who is a first round grade and a first round type Prospect of who’s going to take and how high somebody else has him and in fact that’s how it went the Titans loved JC leam now I know this and buck talked about this throughout the weekend that Joe Al was never gonna make it past the Titans Joe Al was ahead of JC leam on the Titans board and apparently the same to go for the Chargers board too so the Titans took their second guy at S I want to bring up the Chargers cuz you know how Shawn pyton was saying he ran the he ran the draft because they finally got Bo Knicks at 12 trying to I call BS on that I will say the Chargers they did a very good job with the smoke screen and the smoke show because the Chargers as you could see and Austin you started texting in the chat with Sam and I we had a side text of these mock drafts coming out prior to the first round of the draft Thursday Wednesday night and the Chargers leaked that they loved JC leam at tackle to Daniel Jeremiah Peter shreer I saw o other mock drafts where you you have your mock draft 1.0 2.0 6.7 7.5 10.3 when they got to their 69.1 they finally got to their final draft mock JC leam had finally weirdly made his way to five over overall the Chargers did that and they took Joe Al not even thinking twice about it yeah because they knew Joe Al was going to be there they knew JC leam was both gonna be there so I actually kind of applaud Jim Harbaugh being Jim Harbaugh I don’t know if he had a spy somewhere some someplace but the Chargers they blew that smoke screen on Thursday and leaked and and we talked to our reporters about this we had a big team meeting for AD toz Sports we got employees all over the country that cover the teams the media uses the franchises to their advantage but the franchises also use the media to theirs and I thought you saw that on Thursday with the Chargers and the joal situation yeah and the fact that there were no trades uh in the top 10 until uh the you know the last pick in the top 10 10th overall when the the Vikings move up I’ve got so many different thoughts on what I think uh did happened or didn’t happen and I honestly feel like for the Tennessee Titans it was Joel it was JC leam number one and number two on the offensive line and then after that there was a drop off uh to Olu fashu or fuaga or whoever else the Titans had as their third offensive tackle and the Titans did not think that trading back to 11 with the Vikings was worth it because they knew the Jets right there at 10 were a tackle destination and that they they did not want to miss out on the remaining guy that they liked a lot they liked alt number one they liked JC leam number two I think the gap between fanu wasn’t good enough to risk losing on leam because they had already lost on alt and I think that brings up kind of the one-word discussion and I know the chat did this on Thursday Austin it all depends and this is what we don’t know what teams were willing to give up and how desperate teams were and I think that’s where my concern came in is you had a prime time opportunity to really play the draft instead of stick and pick because alt and neighbors went off the board we spent hours Days shows weeks Austin on those two guys Joe Al and Malik neighbors and they both went prior to the Titans picking I thought when that happened when I was live at the draft I was like this is a huge opportunity to now trade back and really play the draft instead of pick the draft and the Titans decided not to do that they make their own decisions Rand carthon and Brian Callahan and daddy Bill all decided with Amy and ownership that they weren’t going to trade but I do think that was a missed opportunity because there were a ton of teams that were quarterback desperate knowing now how the the trades and how the draft played out yeah I mean that’s what it was for sure all right so you guys played the one-word game on Friday with Sam and Jack Zack and I have not done that yet so we’ll do that now one word to describe how we feel about the taking about the Titans taking JC Lam at seventh overall uh wrong would have been uh Zach’s take there but uh dead wrong with the top 10 he’s never going to be the top 10 pick no way are you using a what’s your one word to describe the Titans drafting JC leam at seventh overall on Thursday night so I was here’s my here is my one word is torn d i I’ve stood by this forever the Titans needed to draft a tackle they did not need to draft a wide receiver they didn’t need to draft in the first round a middle linebacker or another quarterback like the the Falcons they they needed to draft a tackle so I like that but Austin I still stand by that I don’t think JC leam is a top 10 pick I don’t think he’s a top seven pick now with Team need and all of the other circumstances that come into play and criteria for a franchise to select a player the Titans felt that he was for what they needed the best player on the board they took him it is what it was but Austin I think that they reached on this at I think that they could have played the draft a lot better if they would have traded back and you know what Austin I’m sitting there in Detroit analyzing this with our social media manager Jake had a lot of good conversations about what happened and what it was I think this is maybe a little bit and we’ll find out over the course of time but Austin was this inexperience of Rand carthon and being a general manager and playing the draft because Austin I like what the Philadelphia Eagles have done and you’ve seen this all over how to play the draft okay how you play the draft is you get to a certain point of where you like your roster you don’t love your roster I don’t think you ever love your roster unless you’re the Kansas City Chiefs or maybe the San Francisco 49ers but what I think you do in my opinion is you trade back and you’re willing to draft a tackle maybe in the later mid mid picks of the first round but Austin it’s the seventh overall pick you’re going to get a future first round pick like that’s that’s how it works you were going to attain a future first round pick regardless if you traded the seventh overall pick that’s what I believe with the number of teams at least inquiring the Titans are not going to win the Super Bowl alert but they are in their adventure to get closer to that point those picks now Austin you can now acquire picks to then trade to go get a guy you absolutely love not next year but the next year or the next year right you’re the Eagles have started to do this so you can now jump and go grab the guy that are blue chip players quote unquote from Rand carthon you look for Blue Chip guys blue players and I I just think that that was an opportunity with a very quarterback needy draft and all of the four going off the board JJ McCarley was wanted Michael pinnick Jr was wanted Bo Nicks was wanted this tells you now hindsight being 2 20 how the draft played out that you had a lot of power at seven to trade back so I’m torn I love that they got a tackle I stand by that because they needed to protect their quarterback love that but I think you you could have done more and gotten more with where you were and where the draft fell all right so I have a followup to you before I get to my one word because when the Titans went on the clock right after joal went five of the Chargers and right after Malik neighbors went six the Giants I tweeted from a rehearsal dinner uh I said adun or tradeback Zack would you have who would you have liked better JC leam at seven or romad dun at seven if I had the pick if you had the pick would you have preferred the Titans draft JC leam at seven or Roma dun at seven who went nine to the Bears I stick to my guns and it’s kind of a catch22 which is that’s why I’m torn that’s why my my my word is is they needed the tackle I I look I’ll put it up on the board right here um what Brian Callahan said this tells you Brian Callahan says they didn’t draft a wide receiver because they picked up Calvin Ridley and free agency they felt it was more important to keep will Levis on his feet boom goes to Dynamite that’s what I that’s where I I felt like I was right I was wrong on the top 10 pick but I was right on they had done what they had done in free agency to tell us that they didn’t need a wide receiver so if you’re asking me that question I go leam because he’s a tackle I don’t hate I don’t hate leam let me clarify I don’t hate leam as the pick I question leam because of the transition from right to left and where he was selected at seven overall no I I get you um so for me my one word is settled uh your one word torn I really like that uh David uh used my one word or Brad I’m Sorry Brad Davis says settled settled is my one word because I feel like the tit in a way they played it safe by reaching slightly instead of the idea of moving back to get more draft capital and maybe a lesser player than leam if they would have gone back to 11 they settled by taking the guy that was second on their tackle board at leam at seven to fill the biggest need on the roster and so settled I think and I I mentioned this um earlier in the show already you know Frid Thursday night I was very like like that I kind I was like m missed opportunity could have traded back gotten more like all those things right Friday as the day went on and even throughout the weekend my opinion on JC leam evolves into I think it makes a lot of sense and it’s a it’s a player who’s got traits who is powerful you know we played Mike Mart’s video on Monday too about Joe Al isn’t a powerful guy and it’s weird to see a a top 10 tackle not be a powerful player leam is the opposite of that once he gets his hands on you you’re done your rep is over and so his footwork needs help and we’ll get into this a little bit deeper his footwork needs help which means that you’re already gonna have to work on his feet so changing him from right to left might not be as big of a deal well leam is a better run blocker joal is a better pass blocker they brought an offensive minded head coach to throw the football that’s another thing that I was torn on you’re saying one thing but you’re doing the next doesn’t mean that they’re not going to run the football but that transition you’re a passing team now you got a Young quarterback that loves to air it out we’ve seen enough of will Levis you just got Calvin Ridley you you have DeAndre Hopkins you’re you’re looking to throw the ball more more than you ever have in the franchises history and now you are going to draft at seven overall a more run blocking right tackle to have him pass block more at left tackle daddy Bill may be the guru but that is a tough transition and we’ll get into that later on in the show but that’s where I’m torn is I you need a tackle I get it but I guess Austin I’d ask this do you believe that JC leam was worth the seventh overall pick ah I’m gonna say yes because of how I think the Titans evaluated the top three tackles on the board and so somebody said because I said this earlier um about alt somebody says I don’t think that they were settled on alt no I I’m telling you Joe alt was the number one tackle on the Titans board Joe Al out of another day he should have been he he was the clearcut guy that’s why I was screaming from high evens that if you get an opportunity Joe Al is your guy the Chargers stole him it wasn’t even a conversation right he was already gone right so and because of like my connecting of dots and Sam wrote about this on ad sports.com on Friday the connecting of dots of saying it’s because Rand said this Thursday night he was said yeah there were there were trade offers but the compensation to move back wasn’t big enough to risk missing out leam that if they thought leam was a much better higher ceiling Prospect than ol fashion over out of Penn State then moving back four spots with the Vikings was not worth it because I don’t think the Vikings were going to give up their 23rd pick in the first round you would have had to go for like a second round pick next year so you get you get a first round next year that that like you’re not you’re not going to get the pick their other pick in Zack ran said the compensation wasn’t good enough so that’s telling me that the Vikings weren’t going to budge that much no and that’s what we do we don’t know those conversations fair but we know how trades for top 10 picks work Austin and it’s a future first round pick that’s the first start of the conversation so I think it was the other picks that they maybe didn’t feel comfortable with the valuation of what the trade represented but you’re going to get a fir you you are going to get a future first round pick for a top 10 pick especially if you’re moving out of the top 10 that that is history shows that that to be true and I’m just gonna say this this is an absolute guess I’m I’m kind of again connecting dots right I think if the Titans got 11 and 23 from the Vikings for those four spots they probably would have done it yeah but that does sense for the Vikings I’m actually with the Vikings you do not give up your two you you don’t do that right you give away the future because what the Vikings are betting on is that they’re going to be a playoff team and that pick is going to be a lot lower than 23 is gonna be closer to and the Vikings didn’t have a terrible year but it it was what it was so there’s Nuance yes absolutely so I I do think because of how I’ve allowed my opinion to develop and mature over the last three days I do think JC leam was worth a seventh overall pick if I were on the draft show Thursday night with Sam and Jack I would have been anti anti anti ABS I know myself I would have not liked it and then I would have come around to it on Monday morning you would have not liked the pick Thursday night and Friday morning I would have not liked the pick and I and I would have as I develop over the last couple of days I would have come to liking it overall because of what I think there’s one thing about this and I I thought Sam tweeted out perfectly if you think you know more about offensive tackle upside and development and evaluation of a prospect than Bill Callahan then what are you doing right well I I push back Bill Callahan is not Zeus he’s not God he could be very good but I I I do I and I will stand by this we got a big problem with the the fan base just thinking that this is the fix fix all if he was so damn good he’d be a head coach and be you know unbelievable for for years and years and years and he was a very good head coach for a period of time but I do think that they feel like Bill Callahan is the Magic Man and that he can do no wrong oh well you but if you can take like he’s done okay all right let’s let’s get to this next video because we got to play this video uh do do you have to answer the worth it question no I I I do I do want um to say something because I saw okay I saw a a comment of hashtag says Zack says he doesn’t hate the pick then proceeds why to say he hates the pick hates is a strong word that’s why my word is torn hashtag Q QJ is that I love that it’s a tackle but I question when and who JC leam at 13 or 15 or that if you if you sold that prior to the draft hashtag that they were going to trade back draft JC leam at 13 or 12 or 15 or whatever and they got future picks I now my word changes to love I will tell you hashtag of what made me feel a little bit more comfortable with JC leam as the player slers because I saw it firsthand I’ll tell you leam will play left they’ve already said that that is correct they stay I that’s what I did like they came out and said he’s going to be a left tackle that’s what we drafted it for that’s what he’s gonna play and then David Johnson says Zack thinks he knows about lineman more than Bill Callahan laughing my ass I never once said that I know more about offensive line play than Bill Callahan I’m just saying don’t think that Bill Callahan is Ricky Bobby and gets first place every single time like there there there needs to be some work with this from right to left I will say two things I was live in Detroit in the media room got to to to go to press conferences with Caleb Williams with Malik neighbors with all of the guys at the draft after they got drafted and was in the press conference room when JC leam took the stage my first thought is I do think that that’s the first time he’s ever had a grill in his mouth because I think he was struggling speaking a little bit so maybe a little bit more grill time for leam it after purchasing that Grill was a big night but I kind of had a mouth full of rocks at times did better when he took the grill out the next day when he flew to Nashville that’s my side note but what he said the substance of the conversation did when I went into the press conference room with JC leam in Detroit and when I left I did have slight change of tune of I like like this guy I think that he is knowledgeable I think he wants to win I think he’s driven I think he’s very passionate I think and this is key he is a competitor we figured out very early on Austin that Isaiah Wilson was not a competitor he didn’t care if he W won or lost all he wanted to do is throw money at strippers in Miami we found that out what I saw in the way that he spoke and carried himself and old stories and here’s another thing about that press conference Austin this is a national I mean we were in Detroit there’s a bunch of the the press conference room was packed they were all asking questions about Alabama right because that was the national story more people know him as a Alabama left tackle but what he said and the substance of his his speaking points were that he was going to work hard he was going to get after it and he doesn’t like to lose and he he talked about the transition from right to left and that it was going to be a transition but I I think he learned a lot under Nick Sabin I think there’s value there and I just I I took away that if he sets his mind to it I do believe that he can be good to Great whatever that is but there is going to be that transition and I think that’s what scared a lot I think it scares you and me I think it scares a lot of Titans fans is how is the transition actually going to work because the Titans have got to improve that offensive line quickly sooner rather than later they don’t have they don’t have the timetable Austin to take it slow with with uh npf and have a good start to the season but a bad end of the season they don’t have that luxury right leam is gonna have to be really good and great right out of the gates we’ll find that out but I did like how he spoke right after he was drafted that was my note from Detroit no it very good uh and I I need to go catch up on that I had a busy weekend doing non work things but I need to go catch up on some of the uh reaction to that but let’s hear from the Titans GM who drafted him ran carthon and the head coach Brian Callahan about that right tackle to left tackle conversation of what the Titans are going to do are you you figure that uh lean will get a shot at left tackle or is he strictly a right tackle just out the gate with the with what position is he going to play yes we’re going to start him uh at left tackle um you know he’s he’s played right tackle at at Bama I know he’s practiced at left tackle he’s taking reps there so it’s not foreign to him um but yeah you know he’s he’s going to start off at left force uh there’s a precedent I mean guys have guys have played right and played left and and made the switch it’s um it’s not not super uncommon I mean it’s it’s happened before so we got a comfort level with the with the player and the athlete and what he’s capable of and so having him go to left and and start out there and look if he doesn’t feel comfortable there it doesn’t look right and look natural mov him back to right um and like I said the other day you need tackles period so uh it doesn’t really affect us one way or the other which tackle is the which which tackle he plays so um he’s just a really strong powerful big athletic human there’s not a lot of guys that look like him on Earth so um we like that doesn’t it affect you in that you don’t have a left tackle if he go if he goes back to right doesn’t it you say it doesn’t affect you one way or the other if he’s playing on the right you still don’t have a left tackle no correct we have guys on the roster that we like um we have there’s there’s we’re not done adding players if we feel like we need to find someone somewhere else um it’s just part of the process and we we picked the best tackle that we felt like was available to us and I said whether he plays right or left remains to be seen but we’re going to start him at left so they’re going to start him at left there’s a lot of comments there uh you know Orlando says that was a flub on Brian uh on well if he doesn’t work out left we’ll move back to right uh you know I don’t know if that would you consider that a flub or honesty I mean it’s it’s the whole thing of like being transparent and honest to the point that you’re not hurting yourself to where the previous head coach uh would just you know not be that transparent well it’s easy to play armchair quarterback what should he have said well what you say is the plan is for him to work out at left tackle we’re going to do everything in our power and give him the resources and my father personally is going to train every day with him to make sure that we give him an opportunity to thrive at the left tackle position Paul I’m not looking ifs butts beers nuts we’re focusing on left tackle and that’s what we’re going to do and then he ask any question on top of that but what if he doesn’t Paul we’re not concentrating on ifs we’ll cross that bridge when we if we get there right I think what where I feel like the Titans have been talking all offseason is we need both tackles right that that is their message has been like we need tackles both left and right and probably a third swing tackle and so uh I think where they’re saying is and again who’s the Titans best pass pressure Harold Landry he lines up across from the right tackle you had the video of JC lean talking about uh being in practice against Dallas Turner who was a first round pick from Alabama where did he Edge rusher lined up on the left side of the defense over the right tackle so Edge rushers line up over the right tackle all the time TJ watt lines up over the right tackle you need people that can play on both sides of the offensive line left tackle is important and still is very important but the right tackle has been becoming way more important because of how defensives have adjusted to the allor athlete playing left tackle oh let’s go get you know club-footed Jack Conlin off balance on the other side and get around him on the edge right so you need both and so I think that’s where Brian Callan was focusing on the chat but the chat’s point is is that you express that in a different way you don’t say well if he doesn’t work out you don’t go into a relationship you don’t sit there and tell your buddies oh hey I’m dating this girl she’s the love of my life un oh my gosh unbelievable but here’s my plan if she doesn’t work out you know I’m gonna just find another one you know you don’t say that so I think that was the criticism based on what was said is if it doesn’t work out at at left you just told us that he will play left tackle don’t tell us that if it doesn’t work out then you’ve got a backup plan for him to move to right I I just think that is a little bit of a and this is kind of what I said at the beginning of the show this is only ran carthon second year as a general manager of an NFL team this is only literally like what a couple of months into Brian Callahan being a head coach of an NFL football team they’re gonna make some stuff they’re gonna make some mistakes per se that they say or do because they don’t have the experience at the job that you you just gain over time for sure I don’t think that there’s a 10 I think JC leam was projected as a top a first round pick he was not projected as a in a lot of people’s eyes including my eyes as a top 10 pick he went top 10 but he was a first round selection right like he was one of three that we were talking about they drafted him at seven and now he’s got to make this transition at a very if not most important position that you play Austin what is your concern level one through 10 honestly I’m at like a three and a half I’m not overly concerned um why I think that Bill Callahan just did this literally just did this he took an Alabama right tackle who was a high first round draft pick with the Cleveland Browns and turn him into an every day every snap starter with the Cleveland Browns at left tackle like literally the dude who held down the right tackle position before uh JC leam jedric Wills was a firstr round draft pick in 2020 by the Browns and then he went over there and he’s been the left tackle for Cleveland the entire time and they had Jack Conklin as their right tackle right because they paid him in the same off they paid Jack Conlin in the same offseason to be the right tackle as they did draft jedric Wills to be the left tackle in the off season going into the 2020 year and so I think they the fact that Bill Callahan just did it makes me feel confident and also the fact that JC leam needs work on his feet means that he’s moldable and you can just you don’t have to break anything so I want to play the Mike Mars video on laam from last week uh to kind of go through that um again to make uh my followup point on this and this kid here ended up being my favorite watching him um I didn’t know who he was really and I’d watched him play a little bit I didn’t pay a lot of attention to him 66 I think he played at 360 maybe but he’s 342 I think he ran a 485 in the combine if I’m not mistaken 35 biggest reach this when he hits you guys as a pass protection in the running game you pretty much stay hit I really think this kid got a great future he plays on the right side easily see him playing over on the left side couple of those plays didn’t transfer in the running game that were kind of fun to watch here he’s over the right side just like his stance right away he wants to set out all the time he does not anchor on the left leg which he needs to do but now that strength and I don’t know who this kid is on defense probably not much of a challenge I don’t know but just watching the knee bend the toes out the base feet never come together locks him out and just shuts it down just that’s it bu you’re done if I had him I’d work him on speed guys as much as possible cuz that’s where he gets a little nervous the big guys he’ll just Maul him I’m excited to watch this kid uh where he goes and and how he progresses I think he’s pretty special say he’s pretty special right there uh and you could also easily see him playing on the left side I think the fact that you he talked about that left leg not anchoring you know as I’ve learned I’ve learned more about the offensive line position this offseason leading up to this draft because because of the situation the Titans are in more than I ever have before it’s about you know you think you just hear the the kick slide is like the most popular thing about that but you don’t you can’t do that too much and you have to anchor on your inside leg not your outside leg if you’re playing The Tackle position in pass protection and the fact that JC Lam struggled to anchor on his inside leg makes me feel like okay we’ll just go teach him how to anchor on his inside leg on the other side he’s not already doing it you’re not having to break habit you’re not having to break something that’s been learned that he needs footwork help so teach him the correct footwork help on the left side and I think that’s where you’re not having to break something down to build it back up you just continue to build it well you you look you’re working against muscle memory that’s what you’re working against you could sit there and say he’s got a fresh start but he has muscle memory playing on the right side for four years right so there there’s that I’m I’m probably at a 5.5 because those speed rushers in the NFL Harold Landry not may may you know they’re interchangeable but this and you’ve talked about this Austin the value of an edge rusher has continued to increase right is that’s how the general manager industry has evolved we need a edge rusher look at the money that’s being paid to the top Edge rushers going to sack the quarterback so he’s going to have to learn and learn quick I do think look Bill Callahan is a value to him he he’s not a hindrance I think that that’s a good thing but you got muscle memory that you’re working against you’ve got really good pass rushers in the NFL that are going to that you’re working is and you have got to protect will Levis like there’s there’s no like oops my bad he’s a franchise quarterback a Young quarterback that needs to be developed still he’s not at his where he needs to be so I’m I’m at a 5.5 because there will be a transitional period and they just can’t afford will Levis was hurt twice last year and didn’t play 17 games twice so room for era very small and I so I’m I’m five point I’m 5.5 I will say on the positive side he has all of the attributes to get that done right and so I think that’s a huge value when it comes to his size his hand hand size if you’ve looked at that bad boy like he’s got that to work with and that’s really what you want you know I saw Joe Al looks like a baby right he does I don’t even he can’t grow a beard because he’s 21 years old right but he will learn and grow into being a man here in the next couple years JC Lam is very similar he will grow and evolve as a player and as a person that he’s just going to get bigger and stronger which is scary so that’s kind of the other half of my argument but I’m at a 5.5 because of where they took him at seven and the transitional period but if you’ve got a plan in place let’s see if the Titans can execute it all right so Zach I just had another thought of something that makes me even more confident uh of JC leam painting out in the NFL as a top 10 pick for the Titans we’ve also got more comments to get to uh that we favored and then Oz Sports all right so Zack JC leam the seventh overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft I look at this and I I look at the transitions from different levels of football from high school to college to college the NFL and who pans out and everybody knows the stat that there are more three star recruits in the NFL than there are five star recruits because there’s like a thousand and a half three stars in every class and like 3 five stars in every class but a lot of times five stars don’t work out they don’t live up maybe they’ve already hit their ceiling at a high school and there’s not a lot of room to develop where you have a guy like Joe Al who played tight end a lot in high school and had to develop as an offensive tackle in the college game when I look at JC Lam’s recruiting profile on 247 Sports he was the third ranked player in the entire country he was the 33rd all-time ranked player on 247 Sports composite all classes to together 33rd ranked guy ever that 247 Sports has ranked in their composite recruiting rankings he was the number one guy at his position and the number one guy out of the state of Florida when he went to IMG Academy uh in Bradon he was already 305 pounds at 6 foot6 coming out of high school the fact that that guy was the 33rd best high school recruit of all time and the third best in the country that year and he became the seventh overall draft pick guy lived up to it like he went to Al he picked Alabama he played right tackle not left tackle but the guy lived up to it and so I feel like that’s there’s a lot of pressure on those big five-star recruits to live up to it especially at Alabama and he did I I think that’s pretty impressive so you mentioned that you heard from him in the uh post-draft press conference in Detroit right there live on the grounds that he likes the challenge and he he goes out there and wants to win well the guy won at Alabama and I feel confident that he’s gonna continue to live up to the height that’s been around his name because he has over the last five years all right I’m gonna I’m gonna highlight something that I absolutely love about JC leam that just that I think that was a good point you you followed his career essentially up into this point and he’s lived up to the building billing every single at the highest level right yeah so the the it’s like LeBron Spotlight from hey you’re GNA be great you’re the next Michael Jordan and then he’s lived up to that now he has surpassed Michael Jordan I want to clarify that but he’s lived up to it so I think that’s a good point I’ve got something that I love that I saw and then I have something that is very very very concerning what do you want to hear first well let’s hear the the loved and then the concerning second my my love here is my love I love that leam has never missed a game at any level and has never had any surgeries worst injury that he played through was a sprained ankle and a broken toe I love that that is anti Jake saw this I said oh no I go this is not good they just drafted this man at seventh overall but this this has got me in a tizzy and that is that skip Bess loves the pick said which JC leam had been the Cowboys pick solid Choice spot of the Titans he’s a pro bowler so skip it when skip is saying it that got me in a tizzy I did not like that skip put his opinion on a Titans player so that was my number one concern uh that that Bist liked oh man yeah that’s a it’s a tough scene you never want to be in that type of company but hey Skip you know sometimes he’s gonna find a correct take you know if you throw enough out there you know well and that brings up and this is where I wanted to uh I saw this earlier and I get where the chat is coming from the chat’s been look we got a lot of people in the chat that have R rid and die with us ride and die with A to Z from years and years when we were doing the show live and in person right we’ve picked and predicted a lot of things gotten a lot of things right gotten a lot of things wrong hopefully more right than wrong but you never know so I love how Kane says Zack since you’re more knowledgeable than NFL Scouts and coaches how many pre-draft meetings has the team had with you asking me about my personal opinion give the process a chance and Kane this is what I want to come come with this because this is perfect timing after the draft we have had all of our takes I’ve had some good ones we showcased a really bad one at the top of the show I’m man enough to admit that eat some Crow there but that’s the fluidity of what we do and this what this show represents we say a lot of things I first and foremost Jeffrey Simmons I had a guy tweet at me and he consistently tweets at me I was very critical of Jeffrey Simmons and his character issue I wasn’t talking about the player he was dominant and he fell in the draft because of his character issue of what that video represented uh right before he went to Mississippi State right the domestic violence thing I had serious concerns I was a staya away guy I got that wrong because Jeffrey Simmons has fixed his character issue he has been a upstanding citizen great in the community earned what the contract that he got right so that end up I also predicted that Caleb Farley’s back was the biggest red flag of any red flags it’s like going on a date with a girl who’s too wide-eyed you knew that Caleb Farley was a bad pick I knew that everybody knew that John Robinson didn’t know that and what do you know what he’s turned out to be is not gonna earn his fifth year option and his back has been in shambles and he’s been injured hadn’t really even played football I mean that’s go back dating to college so you get some right and you get some wrong that’s how this works I think JC leam has a high ceiling right because of what you said Austin of what he’s come from and where he’s been projected Austin he probably was projected as a top 10 NFL draft pick in high school if you ask somebody where do you think he is gonna end up well he’s gonna go to Alabama he’s gonna play he’s a top 10 pick right well thus far he’s been that way now can he be a pro ER can he be an allpro can he earn the reputation that the greats earn at that position which is very very difficult because when you are a great left tackle Austin everybody in their mother knows it when you’re Orlando Brown senior everybody in their mother knows that you’re a great left tackle right that you don’t have to worry about it you don’t it that’s what it is so can he be that we’ll find out the Titans obviously believe that he can well Amber said something that I favored earlier in the show of pick seven shouldn’t be a work in progress or try a new position and a work in progress I think is a little uh overstepping here but switching to a new position I I think it’s Unique because of the situation they didn’t need JC leam at left tackle Alabama he was gonna go he practiced some at left tackle and this has been documented over the draft process especially this weekend that they had the kid Pro who was that the latest five-star top left tackle Prospect at a high school who came in the start as a true freshman and left tackles where that guy could have got on the field earlier and you had JC leam locked down the other side uh and I thought Nick San did probably his best coaching job this past year uh the his last year of his college coaching job with what the Alabama team was and how they were able to achieve uh to get to into the playoff there but still I think he’s he’s not a work in progress you know I wouldn’t label him that like but trying a new position yeah he’s got to flip over the other side I don’t think it needs to be downgraded of what that means because it is a little bit of like ambidextrous Type move but I I think he’s got the talent and the upside to do it I wouldn’t consider him a work in progress I think he’s just got a learning curve just like everybody else does well the Titans were kind of too honest with us and I appreciate the honesty we talked about it earlier the chat called him out this is what they thought they said well look we’re going to try him at left tackle to start and we’re going to do everything in our power to make him a left tackle but if he doesn’t play the position as well we’re GNA move him to right tackle because we don’t currently have a solution there we’re still questioning what the who the right T who is the right tackle right now is probably Nicholas PTI FR Pro see when you say probably that’s a tough or the Leroy uh uh Watson guy that they just brought brought over traded for from from Cleveland but that’s my point is that who’s the center Lloyd cushenberry D you didn’t think twice you had that because that’s who it is so what they are telling us is that if he doesn’t work out we’re going to move him to right and then we’ll re-evaluate the left tackle position and go at it again so they kind of hedged a little bit I understand the concerns though is that you spend a top 10 draft pick on a guy who’s now got a positions they feel like he can so uh P Su what is he right tap where was he picked five no that was Jamar Chase was picked fifth I think P Su also went seventh so was he seventh or or sixth because Jamar Chase was five because we all thought that the Bengals were gonna take him that’s right yeah yeah but no he went he went sixth to seventh I can’t remember which one but he’s the right tackle pretty good oh yeah no wrong decision there see Kane comes in here and says also adz is wild yall complaining for for years about coaches not saying enough now they’re saying too much wow no we’re not complaining we’re just you know I was actually reacting to a comment from somebody in the chat about that because did Brian uh Callahan make a flub Orlando that’s what Orlando said he flubbed it I don’t think so I think I just think he was being transparent which is something that we’re not used to and so sometimes honesty hurts sometimes honesty is not good for the situation when it comes to protecting players sometimes it is and you know Case by case you got you gotta know how to do that in the the right media relation situation um overall and so um all right super chats King VC the champ he comes in says I don’t think we hit our goal but I’ll put in 50 because A to Z is the goat well I appreciate that King BC you didn’t have you didn’t have to do that you didn’t have to uh and then Zachary Smith said last week he’d matched dollar for dooll
