Lexington Kentucky Phil Elson my friend Matt Jones in our ESPN Arkansas Studios and the CE at Kristen Johnson at the controls halftime for the next three hours and it’s just funny how things work out sometimes morning Matt uh guys sounded good last couple of hours I well I listened to to a little bit I was waiting in line but then I had to get on the airplane and everything and smooth sailing to Kentucky guys had a good workout yesterday how was the remainder of your day after I ditched you following the first hour well hey man happy to be here glad you made it um I I know that you uh you usually have a collection of gold stars to hand out uh I was going to hand one out today cunit I thought did really well uh some of his best work uh so we we held it down it’s not the same without you but we you know the work still has to get done and we had to do it well it didn’t feel the same for me you know I was I wasn’t talking sports with you guys or whatever or the halftime homework at the time where I usually am it’s just very odd for me during any hour uh between 11: and 2 Monday through Friday if I’m not looking at you through the FaceTime or you know talking about some music that we might be kicking around on the show or you know who’s going to be visiting next to be the next Razer back basketball player or the baseball team or anything just felt weird for me but it didn’t keep me from falling asleep on a airplane because it’s impossible to stay awake yeah you you look you look refreshed the the thing that that cunit did he picked the C Timberwolves man he he he said you heard it here The Sea Wolves The Sea Wolves are going to get the chicken McNuggets uh I don’t know how many games but but but I heard it here first what happened with your boy Patrick Beverly yesterday Matt he got a little fired up didn’t he got isn’t he always fired up I think he was a little extra fired up yesterday man I only read what happened and I I don’t know you throwing balls into the stands and hitting people in the head Let’s uh let’s be a little better about things yeah I saw the I saw the clip uh and cuz it looked like he was like here throw me the ball and then then he threw it at him then afterwards he was telling the reporter you know you got to subscribe to my podcast which I all these players I guess that’s another way that they make income it’s another just easy trickle in income and so that’s that’s part of it but yeah it was kind of reminded me a little bit of a a Cam Newton after the Super Bowl loss you know team kids you got to I I think as as a fan and as a former player you got to kind of put it in resp perspective that man they’re heated they’re hot they just lost their competitors sometimes you got to take a walk for 30 minutes and cool down before you go in front of the media and I think that’s just one of those deals where he needed to cool off a little bit and and let his emotions get the best of them you know I think I think and and also Phil that’s what makes him great is is how how grimy of a defensive player is that kind of attitude he has I I don’t really hold too you can’t throw the ball at the fans so I I’ll get you but with the reporter getting back and forth in it I don’t really buy buy too much into that yeah I mean nobody reacts nobody feels good when your season comes to an end and there’s there’s got to be a little bit of a I don’t know is anger the right word that you can allow to thank you very much yeah well I I’ve seen I’ve seen players react you know where they just resigned to it and you know and I even have those same emotions when I’m watching like last year when Arkansas was getting blown out by TCU in the final game of the feville regional you feel helpless well we F well obviously I feel helpless cuz there’s nothing I can do about it but it also is like that game was so obvious how it was going from the third inning on you just kind of could go through the stages of grief while the game was being played you know I experienced all of that anger was one of the things I remember feeling and then just being resigned I was all right it’s over we had a good season I hate that it’s over but it’s over hopefully I won’t be feeling that for a good long time but I think you know with Beverly it’s just a little there’s a little added um there’s a little added uh you know how when you might like push your well let’s put it in these terms I I’ve been I’ve been accused of having angry handwriting you know what I mean like I push down a little too hard just because that’s how I write I don’t know if I’d call it Angry handwriting but it might look like it’s a Serial Killer’s handwriting um his handwriting yesterday tore through the paper you know what I mean it’s like he always has angry handwriting he always presses down hard but he tore through whatever whatever kind of paper however thick it was he he tore through it yesterday it’s like Kevin Hart said he’s like why you gang banging at breakfast man why you mad at eggs you just wake up you just wake up upset at everything yeah people some people can’t help it be angry and like act angry and everything bit attitude every single move you make there’s a little bit of a of a of a snarl or a growl or something like that I’m being really well behaved I have to say it’s funny how I started the show yesterday I was telling you I was you know just joking around going in enemy territory and going to be uh you know going to get heckled by all the fans cuz I’m wearing Razer back rat and everybody here’s you know angry about the Razer backs when they’re here in Kentucky and I got to tell you what um this has been an interesting day already so I mean it’s raining in Kentucky it should I we we might be able to get this game in tonight as long as it’s not thundering and no lightning I think we’ll be able to play because it’s an all turf field you don’t have to worry about anybody getting you know slipping because of dirt or mud uh and and and I don’t think it’s going to rain heavy it should stop for a few hours and then by 5:30 Central we might actually be able to get this game in so you get that the it’s Oaks day in Louisville and and here in in Lexington you’re an hour away so this is essentially a landing spot for all sorts of people who couldn’t get flights to Louisville or hotel rooms in Louisville or cars in Louisville well they just do it out of Lexington so our hotel this morning filled with people that aren’t even spending the day in Lexington they’re already in Louisville and then it’s graduation day here in Kentucky too so it’s just and then it’s like it’s weird because this is the this is a huge baseball Series Arkansas Kentucky huge baseball Series it’s like it’s like fourth on the list for people here in Lexington this weekend is Lexington similar to to Arkansas as far as if you’re talking population big cities the people it’s still got a little Southern field to it little Southern Hospitality I mean you’ve lived in Arkansas what 20 years now about going on 24 now yeah I say you you kind of get the the Arkansas way um Kentucky does it have that small town B to it or are you just you’re in the city and on the campus I think he’s got a little bit of a bigger feel to it a little bit but I think Lexington is is is bigger than feville I don’t know about like the surrounding area how it would compare to Northwest Arkansas or like in Central arkans Knox there so I mean that’s big time right there I think we flew over Fort KN yesterday pretty sure uh tried to look down and see if I could count the bars gold but I had it’s already a weird day because this is the first we’ve been doing this radio show match since the 20 oh 2018 well me with the halim’s been on since 2018 and and so the first baseball Series we would have done on halftime would have been in 20 the 2019 Series so that’s 1920 1 2 3 4 this is the sixth year sixth season that we’re doing halftime which means I’ve done this show from every ballpark in the CC from every hotel from my bedroom in Pittsburgh where I grew up when I was visiting home all these other places today’s the first day I’ve ever been denied doing the show at the Ballpark where the Razer backs are playing on the road you’re a spy Phil they said no today feel better about they’re a little upset I think there’s a song yeah you’re a spy I get it yeah so you know what they’ve done now I mean so the the the the the Matt who’s the Sid for baseball I don’t think this really is his decision I think this is coming from someone else who’s a little bit oh probably just very secretive about things going on involving his baseball team that’s the only way I can view it uh he did set me up with a different Matt Jones today Matt now you might have heard of this guy I don’t know we’ve got Matt Jones you there’s Matt Jones who covers Razorback Athletics at at hhog Sports and then there’s Matt Jones Who is the radio guy from uh from ksr Kentucky Sports Radio who runs this whole situation here and is kind of um he I would say he is the leading Sports talk host in all of Kentucky when it comes to the Wildcats there’s no doubt about that he’s famous he’s Twitter famous he’s locally famous and everything and he’s built a little Empire which includes the ksr grill downtown Lexington where they host all of their shows and they open the place up for me to do the show today well I mean they do they already finished their show ksr finished uh right as we got on the air Matt with a couple of his co-hosts and they put me on the show with it everybody has been very very nice but it did feel weird today Matt to walk into a place that literally is branded with Kentucky Athletics where I’m the only well there is one other gentleman in here wearing red but it’s a Washington Nationals hat so there’s nobody wearing Raaz your back red in here I stand out not just like a sore thumb I stand out like a hand without a thumb so it’s it’s it’s just an it’s just a little bit of a different day so once the show ends I got to book it to Kentucky proud Park um there’s no special park or anything you know there’s all these crowds they’re they’re expecting a sellout crowd and that there’s everything going on with with uh with graduation so I don’t know I’m going to like be on I’m going to be on hustle time Matt I’ll be on 11 out of 10 as far as energy is concerned once we once we conclude the show is I got to get over to the ballpark I’ll get there right about the same time the baseball team does and kind of plug in and watch BP talk with dvh and and get ready to go but I do feel weirded it is the first time that I’ve ever been denied doing the radio show at an secc Ballpark and the last time we were here in 2019 they were fine with it I sat in there did a radio show on a Friday on a wet Friday and that was it but there’s 14 ballparks in the SEC I think I’ve done a radio show from every every single one of them and this is the first time I’ve been denied now it hey it’s it’s up to them I’m not complaining I got a place to do it it just feels weird what is it I’m going to do there that’s going to lead to anything happening on the field later on you know how I don’t believe in the broadcasters Jinx Matt well I think we have I think we might have an SEC coaching staff that believes that broadcasters are spies that’s what I thought I I mean I I wouldn’t have let you in either I think that’s the that’s the smart move they’re uh they’re they’re getting wise they’re getting wise to it Phil the the question I do have a serious question uh are they going to pitch their number one against haen Smith or are they doing the the the flip no they’re going to be starting they’re they’re starting their guy they’re try they’re starting Trey poer today okay yeah they they’re not making any changes in the rotation in fact their rotation has been identical in every SEC weekend except one and they’re not changing that up at all and you this is such an interesting series because these two teams have the have identical SC records but they do things in much different ways kuy’s got this high-powered offense that’s built on speed and contact and moving Runners around and every once in a while they’ll hit a home run and and the Razer backs you know obviously have a have a lineup that’s been hot and cold the pitching staffs have been really successful Arkansas specializes in missing bats I mean they lead the country in strikeouts per nine innings ky’s got one of the better eras in the country without striking a ton of guys out so they rely on their fielders quite a bit I don’t think any of their starting pitchers average more than a strikeout per inning every single Razer back starting pitcher averages well over a strikeout per inning so it’s a you know these two teams are successful they do things in totally different ways the coaches have I think different approaches to how they handle things and Dave Van Horn would have never been on top of a coaching staff that would tell the visiting announcer no you can’t do the broadcast here because he just doesn’t care it seems a little weird yeah there’s something else going on they they got a think feelings might be hurt or they they they just they’re just not into Arkansas right now you think they’re going to let me in the ballpark today you think I’m actually question you better have all all your credentials you know have the the lanyard over the suit where they you know you’re but two forms of ID I haven’t worn a suit to a baseball game in years um maybe today may have to be the day I do it which means you’re probably going to have to take the last hour by yourself so I can go buy a suit and get it fitted I don’t want to do that to you again so might show up in my razor back shirt AAR he has a store called Rena swag you could get you something right there and then you just return it back in so you’re good Ren a what do you think of Coach C’s moved this week how how are we handling that I don’t want you getting J I don’t think you get jumped but I do think harass and told how terrible he is and how Arkansas is going to S it Los in the first round of the tournament next year I do think you will get quite a bit of uh that if uh if you if you say the CW out loud and not the c word that other people are thinking I’m talking of course calip Perry hopefully nobody can hear me say that out loud well they’re they’re being very nice about it here nobody heckled me when I walked in the place was full everybody wearing blue except for one gentleman wearing a Washington Nationals hat and he’s walking out now um and they even had me on on ksr for a segment and uh well we we’ll put it in these terms now they do I you know I think they’re they’re entertaining I’ve listened to them quite a bit um I’m here for a baseball Series it’s a huge baseball Series it’s for the lead in the SEC um they’ve sold out Kentucky proud park for this weekend and everything they didn’t ask me one thing about baseball it was all about it was all about Cal it was all about the temperature in Arkansas it was about Arkansas nil that’s that’s what it was about but it was respectful I’ll I’ll put it that way well I I might have to go back and listen you know let me let me ask ask you I mean I I I think I know the answer to this and if Matt’s there I apologize for turning this into a a Phil special here how would you describe the temperature I I think I know but I’m curious for your perspective on on what we’ve seen the successes in recruiting the roster that’s coming together the pieces that may still be on the way uh I like I said I think I know just because I talk so much Arkansas in my show but curious for your perspective as well I mean I think and Matt you can you can answer on this too I think it’s I think there’s an excitement that I don’t know if I’ve felt before for basketball at Arkansas in late April and May you know I I felt that kind of excitement in March when when M’s two Elite 8 teams made their runs and you had the the sweet 16 team too um but I think there’s also a little bit of like a a cautious excitement that now starting to build a little more because you’re seeing the the the the beginnings of the roster that he’s putting together here would that be the fair way to put it Matt well there there is excitement and you have to remember that it’s the LA Lakers when you’re the Arkansas Razer backs and you got Coach Cal I mean that’s that’s our professional team that’s where everybody the kind of everything’s under a magnifying glass right now and there is a little hope you know you you feel like you’re going to get some athletes and and have a little hope Phil my question is is there any coach caliper swag up on the on the have they have they already taken it all down you know like when when Barry Zito was taken down from the Oakland A’s when the when Money Ball was over do they still have Coach Cal pereria up there I’m looking around right now I actually I don’t see any Cal Perry up on the walls behind they’re a little scorned well I don’t know there aren’t any marks that they’ve PN anything off the wall yet so I’d have to do like a real forensic search uh if I’m going to give you the right the right answer here well and you know what I if I could jump in you know listen and this is what we’ve talked about since the news broke uh three or four weeks ago is I think a lot of can be true is is I I think that Kentucky fans have a right to feel frustrated uh with how the seasons have ended the last couple years um based on not only the the school’s history but Cal Perry’s history early on as a head coach what I also think is true and I think this is something that Kentucky fans are diminishing a little bit there have been really good regular seasons that just haven’t ended the way that they wanted and this is you know this is something we’ve already talked about guys but I push back all the time on well you know going with freshman it doesn’t work it’s like finish second in the SEC this year in the toughest SEC that we’ve ever seen um and so it did work it just didn’t end in the tournament with the result that you wanted and so I know we’ve talked about I know it’s water under the bridge at this point but I think a fresh start is good for everybody coach C and still coach ask rck Warren how it went the final day of the regular season this past year uh ask natos who made a final four but got run out of the gym against Kentucky Coach Cal can still coach but I I you know and I think the ksr guys would say this I think I’ve heard them say this I think the message wore a little bit thin on that fan base and that team and I think a fresh start is is great for everybody I know they’re very happy with their head coach and I think frankly Arkansas fans should be as well hey Aaron I wanted to ask you about a point guard I know you’ve seen him play Tyler KCK from from Marquette I I think he’s the number one point guard in the portal is is he going back to Marquette or where where do you think he ends up is Tyler K in the portal is he not in the portal being sarcastic no I saw not being sarc I I was when I saw that he was in the portal I thought man that’s crazy I couldn’t believe he was in but but maybe he’s not maybe I saw maybe I saw misinformation cuz I thought man that’s the best point guard uh coming back in college basketball he he would be no doubt I’m searching now I know when he now listen what I would say is I know when he um season ended he put out a statement um that he would not be returning to college basketball but listen a lot of these guys say it and when you factor in nil whether it’s a nor shadir a whoever um uh you know uh I’m trying to think who’s who’s the big one colan Hawkins that just went in from Illinois who’s a four-year H college player at the University of Illinois I think everybody’s keeping their options open but unless something broke in the you know I haven’t really been on online today so maybe it’s broken in the last couple hours but obviously with that deadline passing I I don’t think I’ve seen that but if he’s available he’s the best player available and you know call up Jerry Jones and whatever everybody else is offering make sure Jerry makes sure to double it because if he was somehow available I think he the best player available well but Matt also hits on something that you know that the team needs right now when you look at the six players you got the commits from you know you got you got Knox and Richmond who I think play the same position Boogie fland is a is a is a shooting guard so is Janelle Davis you got the two centers in Jonas Adu and and big Z I think Adu tiero if he does commit and and I know he was on a visit this past week he’s a power forward so I mean you you need a point guard and that’s one thing that arkans kind of struggled with last year too no doubt no and and you know I I saw I think it was Matt orlander had that Davon Smith uh might be on campus this week uh he’s one of the last kind of remaining guys I I’ll say this I know and I I I don’t know if Arkansas fans even paid attention but DJ Wagner I know there’s a lot of negativity around him um because he was the number one recruit in the class it didn’t work out well and frankly I think there was a lot of negativity with Kentucky because you had two lottery picks in Reed Shepard and Rob Billingham coming off the bench um and and DJ continu to start I bring all of that up to say I’m actually very high on him I mean you go back and look at his numbers he got injured actually I think it was the Arkansas game or right before the Arkansas game at bug Walton that he got injured and he was never really the same player the stretch and again Reed Shepard and Rob Dillingham were kind of these ascending stars and so I just bring it up because I would assume I know he visited ironically USC this past weekend I would assume with his family ties to not only Coach Cal but you know Kenny Payne and and his grandfather were were were were teammates at Louisville I would assume that Arkansas is still the favorite and I actually think to your point Bill he fits perfectly with both Boogie fln and John El Davis because if you have John El running the point it takes away what he can do offensively I think he’s capable and then you know you just don’t want a freshman in the FC having to play point guard he can be your secondary or third primary ball handler whatever so to answer your question Phil I think to me that’s probably the biggest remaining need I think even more so than front Court death shooting whatever um and if it were to be DJ Wagner I think I’d be higher on that than a lot of other people who seem to be down on DJ after the season that he just who else is is really making a big impact in the portal in the SEC I we’re focusing so much on Arkansas it’s a total rebuild it’s the same in Kentucky it’s a total rebuild but it it seems Alabama is also kind of you know doing pretty well in the portal after a final four run I’ll tell you you know it’s not a surprise and and we know the money in the SEC uh it’s just different for a number of different reasons I don’t think it’s hyperbole to say just about everybody is um you know I I I look at you know Missour how about Missouri finished didn’t win an secd game last year they they’ve added Mark Mitchell who’s from Missouri originally a Duke uh uh player you know he he was a one andone type talent and it didn’t work out he averaged I think 11 a game at Duke last year so you average 11 a game on an elite eight team you’re not terrible H maybe even if you haven’t reached your potential they added a veteran guard named Tony Perkins from Iowa so Missouri I think will be much improved um is it enough to get over the top we don’t know we just mentioned John El his teammate Elijah Martin from Florida Atlantic he headed to Florida um and I’ve said this very publicly I really doubted the Todd golden hire super young guy when he got that Florida job they make the tournament this year um you know assuming there’s no crazy departures they have a few guys testing the draft Waters I think they’re a factor and then obviously outside of Kentucky and Arkansas with your complete rebuild the one you just brought up Phil we got to give credit to Alabama you know I I you know they’ve been able to tweak and I think you know the one thing about Alabama I think they’re in a weird position of having to build a team without knowing if Mark Sears is back so how many guys do you take you hope to have him back but you’re not sure so I would I would list all of those schools as having success obviously an addition to Kentucky and Arkansas hey Aaron with the addition of Texas and Oklahoma which one of those schools has the better inaugural season in the SEC basketball world it’s going to be Texas you know it was funny because when I when I said everybody in has gotten better uh Oklahoma hasn’t and and I would like many was just wrong on B moer I don’t know what’s going on but they were bad last year in the Big 12 and they’ve lost basically everybody uh one of their guys actually transferred to Kentucky another one’s headed to Houston another one’s headed to Georgia Tech so I don’t know what’s going on there I I don’t think Texas is going to be very good in year one relative to teams they’re going to have to face I think they’re probably in a a spot to finish F fifth six seventh where and there but compared to Oklahoma Oklahoma could be in a lot of trouble in you’re one in the let’s leave it there always appreciate talking with you and maybe we’ll we’ll still be talking basketball in like three weeks who would have thought that man I know well dude enjoy the baseball Series this weekend I gotta make sure to tune in absolutely that’s right anytime Arkansas Kentucky meet on the baseball diamond throw the records out I didn’t know the record was that good this year for Kentucky but I know you guys gotta go know they do they lead the fan a former Kentucky fan of 50 plus years and an Arkansas fan of about 40 plus years two different stories I grew up in Kentucky wife from Arkansas I started following Arkansas after uh Nolan came over from Tulsa because I I lived in Tulsa when he had Paul pry Mike Anderson all those groups so but first question after C was handled retired my wife said are we go buy Arkansas season tickets now and uh I then become a former Kentucky basketball fan and uh but a couple quick points DJ Jo Wagner would be an excellent point guard you know he was three time freshman of the week last year and he was injured to mons with a bad ankle and so some people thought good of DJ he would be very good and secondly if they can get books and and uh buo from Kentucky that gives you a swing forward and a a big forward so looking forward to seeing in the recruiting finish out cow’s process is very different it’s quiet it’s very focused it’s not a lot of players and uh so it’s going to be interesting over the next month to see it get finished out so just wanted to pass a couple of points on WE way to go to come over to the light side of the force okay Larry this where that’s very well done well we now won’t have a divided uh TV watching because it will be Arkansas only and once again I was one of those Kentucky fans that was pretty obnoxious but uh you know Kentucky fans got what they wanted they wanted cal gone and uh he is gone and K as you you listen to him talk interviews and stuff he knows Arkansas basketball and I think he is he is U energized but the one thing most people here don’t they they’re not just a Punch and Judy team that just steals bases and and and and that’s how they you know score um they they can hit the ball over your head too they got some guys on this team that can hit it’s just nobody thought they might hit at this level in the SEC because they came in from you know Cincinnati or or or ersin college you know I mean it’s or Southern California where they didn’t hit for so much power so um I think it’s a good team but it was a team that was completely cobbled together almost totally uh in most cases from the transfer portal and we got a couple of well months away I was looking at the Arkansas’s football schedule for this year and when you look at it I mean I was kind of watching Tyler Green in the red white game and and he looks okay but you know he’s going to play in a league that he’s never not been accustomed to do you have concerns on the first six games you know second one being Oklahoma State and then the three right before that first break are all I don’t know they’re gonna be tough I’m looking at Arkansas could possibly be two and four or one and five before their first break if if it goes that way you know I mean what do you think I mean AR kind of got their back against the wall in those first six games what’s thing yeah it’s a tough looking schedule Brian there’s no there’s no doubt and when you go to Stillwater for the second week of the Season yeah I mean that that’s going to that’ll that’ll give you an idea of what you’ve got in a way that I don’t know if many of the non-conference games recently have necessarily done that um but you know uapb is whatever Alabama birmingham’s pretty good program you you got to take care of business in your home stadium um and then Auburn on the road A&M tennis nothing I mean nothing here is easy winning at Auburn is a tough thing to do they’re going to be better than they were last year we know this the history against A&M and you know that’s going to be stacked against two new coaching staffs and one coordinator that was the coordinator last year against him and you know Tennessee at home that that that’s a good team too so yeah I mean it’ll be those first six games are are really tough and four out of the first six are very tough I’m excited Phil it’s going to I I think we’re going to be better on the offensive side of the ball than we were last year um and I guess that’s kind of an understatement you’re not really I’m not really saying much by saying that but I I don’t see our offensive line being a detriment to us I I I think we’re going to be able to run the ball a little bit better uh and then our third down efficiency with patrino coming it’s going to be better that’s what he does you know Red Zone Third Down efficiency getting the guys in the right spot uh now does it translate to wins because everybody else got better too we’re going to have to wait and find out like everybody else but I think as a football team as a fan you’re going to like what you see a lot more than what you saw last year well I mean go going to Stillwater and playing in the second week that’s different than having Cincinnati come in for the first game of the year when they were a different a much different team than the playoff team that went you know the playoffs the year before it’s different than South Carolina coming here for the second weekend because it’s a road trip it’s going to stillw water which is a tough place to play um it’s different than rice obviously which I think was the second opponent a few years ago this is tough I mean you’re going to find out what you got that second week still Oklahoma State it’s that’s a that’s an even opponent though that’s not somebody that that you’re thinking that you can’t play with or you’re scared of of of or anything so that’s that’s going to be okay we we’ll we’ll be uh I think we’ll be okay against them go to Charlie who is here on the mclary Daniel hotline and Charlie wants to talk some baseball good idea because it’s a baseball game and a baseball weekend Charlie how are you I am good I do want to comment on one other thing though Phil uh when when someone calls in here and they almost put me to sleep and I feel like you’re gon to hang up on them way before they get done anyways that’s just saying something I’m not going to say nothing else I’m just going to leave it at that I almost took that that whole last phone call uh I was snoring uh almost so good thing you guys didn’t well you better wake them up Charlie you wouldn’t be the only one you better wake them up shake them out of their their sleep do DRS man go for it well uh Phil I wanted to ask I want to flip this around on you because uh I know you know the game at a high level talking about basball let me ask you this if you were facing Hagen Smith um what would be kind of your approach because I mean obviously he’s Elite we know that I would think obviously he he has so many different pitches now I think four right that he’s pretty comfortable with so what obviously you’re probably looking uh to get his pitch count up and then also try to see that fast ball right I know that fast ball is filthy but if you’re facing a an elite pitcher like Hagen and I know Kentucky like you said they’ll do anything right they’ll do anything to get on base they’ll steal they’ll bunt so you know who by the way I want to ask one other thing too Phil uh who is going to be the catcher tonight uh that could possibly throw some of these guys out and then I’ll hang on with oh I think they’ll start Hudson white because he has started every game that Hagan Smith has has pitched so I don’t think you change that at all for any reason um that what we’ve seen more is that Roland is catching a game each weekend instead of hellick hellick occasionally dhing against lefties so I I think you’ll get Hudson white in there potentially twice and rolling once I guess I’d be surprised if it’s HRI that’s catching and if it’s Smith look I wouldn’t want to be one of the first hitters I’d want to be I’d want to be fifth in the lineup because I’d want to see what it is that he what he feels good with you know what is what pitch is he establishing early and that he’s going to attack batters with because I don’t want to be one of the first guys in which you’re just guessing you’re you’re really just guessing it all but that you see in previous years Hagen would struggle with command and so you’d see you’d see batters taking a lot of pitches and get deep into the count they don’t go deep into the counter against him anymore because he’s become a pitcher with pinpoint command on almost everything he throws and I mean the best idea the only hope you have sometimes would be hope is that you hope that he makes a mistake you hope that he doesn’t have all three pitches going you hope that it’s one of those days where he’s got to focus on one pitch and you sit on it and maybe you get something to hit and it’s still a maybe you know I mean you can go with a plan but with a guy a guy that that has the stuff and and Now command that Hagen has with three different pitches and it is really four because he varies the speed on his breaking ball good luck that’s what it’s it’s about good luck and we get to close out with hog noxious Who Matt hog noxious had a I don’t want to say this was like the realization of a dream but on Wednesday when Arkansas played MIss State Hog noxious has been calling into this show and we’ve had Klay Henry on for years and he finally got clay to sit with him above the third base Dugout and I think clay was there longer than he expected to be hog noxious so you obvious and you always are a very gracious host well he said he wanted to hear stories and then uh you know about the 6 in he said you know I’ve had another story I’ll tell you this talking to Clay for that long I’m going to get a fishing license that’s the result I’m just surprised that would sit next to someone that doesn’t have a fishing license yuck yuck yuck well you’re you’re right about that um uh in answer to Charlie’s Charlie’s uh question I think the book on Arkansas is you better be ready to hit as part of the success this year of Arkansas pitchers is their throwing strike it’s just that simple you don’t get behind on batters if you throw strikes sometimes they hit them that’s what happens but you can’t nibble around just go ahead and strike and boy if you’re up the bat against some of the Arkansas pitchers you better be swinging that bat or you GNA be sitting down pretty quick yeah and and you know to that point there have been a couple of games recently where there have been a few more walks and we’ve seen they had six walks three hit batters on Tuesday and that was involving guys that will pitch on the weekend and Mason Molina’s last start what was it seven walks less than four Innings and that was an issue for Molina in the fall so you know they’ve been really good at limiting free bases in terms of not making plays in the field or walks and hit batters but there have been a couple of games recently where where there have been a few more than you’d like to see yeah well people our our fans need to realize we’re fixing to play nine games and only three of those are at home buddy if we can win five of these games against two of the best teams in the conference and one of the teams that’s playing the best in the conference uh we if we can go 500 we’ll still be in good shape um I’ll tell you we’re only guaranteed of five more games this season at bomb Walker stadium and uh we we need we need to win to guarantee ourselves more but uh we this next stretch is going to be tough it really will it really will I don’t think it’s going to decide in hog noxious it’s good to hear from you man I don’t think it’s going to decide whether or not Arkansas plays at home in in the regional and it might not even decide whether or not they play at home in a Super Regional but you got to win a game at least a game each weekend you can’t lose all three series I would say that too because then you’ve lost four series and potentially you’re looking to being out of the top eight um you’re playing the best teams you’ve played this year outside of maybe Oregon State um and that’s Ed that’s probably Ed these are the best teams you played all year wearing a suit and tie uh some of the I’m getting some looks from people too cuz I see the Razorback hat um and I’m I am definitely the only one wearing red inside the ksr bar and grill hey we’ve got James Teague with us on the mccardy Daniel hotline former Arkansas pitcher member of the Teague Law Firm someone who knows what it’s like to be heckled while he’s getting ready in a bullpen uh James nobody’s heckling me while I’m doing the radio show here at ksr Bar and Grill but it’s a little different when you’re warming up in a bullpen somebody’s always going to shout something at you probably start with your uniform number yeah you you learn to have some thick skin because if you don’t uh you you’ll you won’t make it very long that’s for sure yeah do you ever see anybody go back at the fans you know not in a way like like Patrick Beverly did the other day or yesterday where he threw ball into the stands he was aiming it at a player but missed but you know I mean you you’re told to not react you know but every every once in a while it must be a little difficult to not yeah I mean I think that at the end of the day you just the hecklers are going to Heckle and they’re going to do their thing you got to just do your thing and you probably asked those guys well would you rather be up in the stands yelling at somebody or down here on the mound I think they’d all choose rather be on the mound so you just take that for what it is and get back to work there’s a little taste of home up on this the on the TVs here at the the ksr bar and grill is showing a race from Oakland so makes me almost feel like I’m back home for a moment James it’s Derby weekend we’ve been here twice for Derby week in 2019 as well I don’t think that was the case in 2016 um are you into horse racing at all so I’ve been to oklah a couple times I would I’ve not been very successful uh Robert he made the trip up there and so he’s going to the game and then going over to the derby so I think he’s he’s a big race fan but uh he’s he’s made quite it make for quite the weekend if you plan accordingly but um I’m I’m going to be at home with kiddos watching on TV Robert being um James’s father um who of course he works with that’s right and I know coach Pitman has said he’s going to be coming up here uh for the Derby I don’t know if he’s visiting baseball because he’s he’s with uh he’s with a family that’s got a horse that’s running in the race hey James the team that Arkansas’s playing here Kentucky they they they play differently offensively than just about any other team in the SEC you know they’re going to they’re going to move Runners around if they get first you got to get men on base for them to be able to do the things that they want to do you know I guess that’s like that’s the first thing you you can look at well all right you got a team that likes to steal a lot of bases they’re going to move run they’re going to bunt you know they’re going to hit and run one way to keep them from doing that is to you know I guess it’s too simplistic to say is not let him get on base yeah yeah that’s true and the problem that you have is you know forces you to throw the ball forces you to be accurate and to you know not make mistakes you know just do doing the basic things and you know I always hated a team that would run because pitcher it’s just kind of another issue to have to worry about I’d rather the team you know that just wants to hit for power and then you can kind of focus more on the hitter but you know we’ve seen pfps hurt a lot of teams you know the pitcher heing their position we’ve seen it come to bite us whether it be Bunning or stealing this or that so it’s just another variable that I think makes it difficult well and they’re gon to part of it is not necessarily like the the small ball that they play the bunts the steals the hit and run the taking the extra base it’s it’s the thought in the back of the opponent’s mind you know that there that there could be something happening almost on any pitch with a base runner or two base runners and you know they’re trying to take your focus away from the batter and that’s always one thing that I feel like like Dave Van Horn preaches you know as far as pitching is concerned he lets Matt Hobbs worry about that but I you can see they don’t hold Runners on in some situations in ninth Innings when other teams will they’ll let guys take a base cuz they want the focus is to be on the batter yeah and and for some guys too especially coming in the bullpen you know you got to be you know one three one4 to the plate or guys are just going to steal on you just it’s just math of how quick the catcher can you know throw the guy out a second or or third and some guys their natural delivery is not 134 it’s more like one 15 or one six and so then you’re thinking about now I got to be quick to the plate and then now maybe my mechanics my timing is a little bit off and so you know most most coaches I think these days you know have guys on the clock they’re forcing them to be quicker to the plate you know to try to build up that muscle memory but some guys is tougher than others especially big guys that maybe don’t have as much fast switch and so it’s just another variable to be concerned with you know I think Kentucky would like to have the rules that they play with in professional baseball where you can only have the two pickoff moves and you know where you can have a third but if you don’t if you don’t get him out on the third try then it’s a b and he just gets the base you know I mean I don’t know if college baseball will ever come around to that kind of a rule um you know cuz they are college baseball is a holdout from some of the rules changes that have been instituted in in professional baseball and not just the majors but the minors as well you know well it would be different as a pitcher if you are held to two pickoffs it it just it just would and you know what’s funny about that one of the hardest things to do I always thought is is the long hold you know where the pitcher is trying to hold the guy on and they always teach you you know to come set and you’re trying to kind of freeze the guy at first and mix up your time but for me I kind of want wanted to just come set and go and so variables okay now I’m holding for a long time am I going to pick am I trying to like beak my pick to where it doesn’t look like it’s obvious that I’m going to pick off and uh a lot of people didn’t know this about me but my left eye is actually blind and so I can’t I can’t see the runner at first so I would have a signal with the catcher where he would have a pinky you know a pinky out on his sign hand that would tell me when I needed to pick because I I frankly could never see him and that was something that fortunately The Scouting Report never really got out on that but if you were ever on first base on me I don’t see you over there so if you have a huge lead I’m the catcher better let me know that is something you got to hide from opponents isn’t it I mean because yeah absolutely but how how have you always been blind in one eye yeah I had an accident when I was four and it was uh at a fort going by actually so uh I I have very very minimal Vision in my left eye and so it that was one of the reasons I couldn’t hit very well is because I would get I couldn’t you know curveballs especially that kind of like start at you I’d lose them and then they kind of reappear but I tried to uh swing you know from the left side that didn’t work and so I just said oh I’ll just pitch well I didn’t think about as I got older holding Runners became a real problem was I mean I it’s fascinating to me to think about about this because so much about sports not just baseball but but sports with a ball any kind of a sport is based upon your vision but this is something that must have just become it must have felt natural to you because if it happened at age 4 you know you learned to throw a baseball with h having Vision in just one it wasn’t wasn’t like you had to necessarily adjust but but did it ever make it difficult to to you know to to to pitch a little bit Yeah I changed my Mechanics for my head was a little bit more straight on and I always threw from the right side of the rubber instead of the left side because you’re body’s a little bit more open you’re not turned so far um I actually threw a lot better from the left side because there was more of an angle you know it was a better breaking ball kind of coming across kind of more of that sweeper Type move but I just I frankly couldn’t see well enough when I got in a pro ball they they forced me to wear goggles as a liability protection because they said well you know if the line drive takes out your ride eye you know we could technically be on the hook for you know long-term disability because now you can’t see out of either so I had to wear these big protective goggles and I couldn’t see out of them and it was a whole fit that I had with the organization but uh yeah luckily to me it happened when I was young enough that my brain kind of adjusted I was it it wasn’t like uh my eyes had already learned how to operate and then I had to relearn so I never really knew anything different being four when it happened but um yeah it was it was interesting trying to keep that under wrap um as time went on James Teague with us from the Teague Law Firm former Arkansas pitcher you you said a word earlier that I think just became came uh popularized in the state of Arkansas based on the Payton Holt deak from last weekend against Florida game one Saturday um I it’s a term that I use because I’d heard it before but not every not everybody had heard that term the deak herd round the world everybody asks like we’ve never seen anything like that before I’m I’m assuming you hadn’t seen anything like that before either but it’s a play that will stand out in our in our memories I don’t think I’ll ever forget it no I I couldn’t figure out what happened I was watching at home and I thought why did he not run what’s going on I went back and saw it I was like oh it’s genius we never practiced that I never saw anybody at all the time I played practice that or do that so I think it just caught him off guard it was not something that you really look for um I know some guys will kind of deak up high and then they’ll basket catch it to kind of throw off the timing but I’ve never seen kind of the the arm up and down deak in the way that he did it uh but yeah I mean in hindsight you know really won the game if you think about it it did there’s no doubt it did I mean it kept the tying run from scoring it was it was amazing and now I saw it on Wednesday I don’t I don’t know who it was but it was one of the pitchers that’s in the Outfield shagging during BP and he even tried a deak he practiced the deak now everybody wants to try doing this and I can just imagine be careful be careful broken noses can happen yeah yeah the last time I was out in the Outfield trying to Shag balls and and be a be a superstar out there I wasn’t paying attention and me and Ben attendi had a collision and I realized that that that would have been my scholarship and my one-way ticket out of Arkansas so I decided that I was going to stay away from the Outfield and let him do his work you know God forbid I you know roll his ankle or something and I’m I’m I hit the road well it would have been better than like running into Chris John Wilkerson right Cas see You’ have I don’t know who would have gotten the worst end of that he was a he was built like a br he was a brick house yeah I’ve never I’ve never seen anyone maybe spanberger he I was with him he was a strong guy but uh Wilkerson one time we were messing around in the locker room kind of wrestling and that went on for about about five seconds and I realized this guy’s way too strong for me I’m not messing with this guy anymore he of course James um is with the Teague law firm and has been so for a few years now the Teague Law Firm has been around for for nearly 30 years helping you your family and what would the judge do if we were to go before a judge and try this case what would he do and that really requires an understanding of the law and and being in court a lot you know in our business we’re in court all the time last couple weeks I haven’t even seen my dad that much because he’s in one Court I’m in another and you know vice versa back and forth and so it’s to to really understand the law and know what are the parameters or what is the likely outcome if this goes to court and then how can we use that knowledge to then negotiate a result that’s either as good or better than that result and I think that’s something that we do a good job at and you know just based on the experience and the court time that we have being familiar being familiar with the judges familiar with their staff and knowing okay here’s the likely outcome how do we how do we make sure we achieve this or better in terms of negotiating this case James always enjoy the visits with you uh thank you very much we’ll be looking forward to talking again next week when we have our final home series of the regular season yeah we got our hands full with Kentucky but I’m I’m I’m interested in seeing Hagen and of uh what was it they won their first five games something like that they’re right where they’re right back where they belong I mean they have the third worst record in the National League so all is well in the world makes it makes me sad but it does make me realize that things can go according to the way that they’re supposed to go you’ve seen this story before you’ve seen this movie before I’ve seen this story tell so many times I will say this when when I looked at it at least your run differential isn’t as bad as some of the other teams would so that should give you maybe a little hope right there at least you’re not minus 8 the so Miami’s minus 59 right now St Louis is minus 30 y y’all are minus 17 so you’re kind of I mean you got to man you really you are Mr you are so we’re giving out nicknames here for figuring out something for colon you are silver lining Jones Colorado is minus 75 already this year so they’re not yeah you are Mr Silver Lining you are MSL I’ve never thought that that would be you but listen to you giving me giving me positives about about the about the pirates for crying out loud now okay so they could be the A’s right the A’s are going to be leaving town sometime soon but the are 15 and 17 and they’re ahead of Houston and they’re ahead of the angels two teams that spend money though the angels I guess didn’t spend money to keep show Otani Houston spends money and they’re no good the baseball season’s kind of FO fled did trout get hurt again is he out he did oh my goodness it’s every year it’s every year it’s a meniscus this time now now with fully guaranteed when is it time that you got to pull off the Band-Aid and and and just say man we can’t do it anymore well is he still that good that you’re just you just have to it when he’s healthy he he mostly is that good he hadn’t been very good this year you know it’s 32 years old looks like he’s only played one full season out of the last four and really that wasn’t even a full season so yeah I mean this was I remember thinking when trout got up to the big leagues that he’s going to be well he already is going to be a Hall of Famer but I thought he was on track to maybe if having one of the greatest if not the greatest career in the history of the sport the injuries are the thing that ends up getting in the way and that is the case with him I I think he’s still signed for a lengthy period of time here yeah his contract goes through another six years woo $37 million per but you know here’s the thing about a guy like Mike Trout and it’s funny because they’ve got another player on that Angels team who’s in a completely different perspective which is Anthony randone like I don’t think randone likes baseball very much um I their accusations of rendone last year not really working hard to come back from a wrist injury like like Trout’s a family man too and and when I knew him when he played for the travs he was 19 so I know he was literally all baseball and a little bit of weather you know he liked the Eagles and and the Philadelphia Eagles and couple of basketball teams and all that but he was baseball 100% I think he’s still that way so like a guy like randone is doing it in order to make the money and barely gets out there and plays and I don’t know if he works hard to come back trout will do everything he can to come back and fulfill that contract so I just hate it for him because he he continues to be my my favorite player in the game so yeah the athlet are the Athletics going to have one of these like major league Seasons you know the movie Major League see you you know the movie major league is this one that has to be assigned to you I’ve seen it you’ve seen Major League okay Charlie Sheen Corbin B how are you going to steal 100 bases with your shoes on Todd that’s right he’s got I got a hundred pairs of these things but it sounds like I need to watch it again no you don’t need to watch it again it’s just you have you you have a literal almost exact situation going on in Oakland the only difference is that the owner is not a an exotic dancer whose husband died this is somebody who made who who made his money through being the sons or grandsons of the people who started Gap clothing that’s where John Fisher’s money comes from had a so he’s he’s got him what’s that go ahead 3.8 RA in the California Correctional league in the California penal League yeah um but he uh you know he’s he’s he’s he’s got this grandiose plan for a ballpark in Las Vegas just like what was her name in Major League that own the team Rachel something or other I don’t remember the name but she you know this was before a team was in Florida and the thought of a Major League team in Florida was like why Haven Miami right she was going to move the team to Miami and so you know you’re signing gu literally remember in the movie they had somebody going to spring training who was dead well cross him off then that’s kind of what they’ve done with Oakland here I mean they’ve traded away so many of their best players and you know I’ve got a friend who’s a hdden coach in the A’s organization I had breakfast with him he was up to coach uh to to visit their doua team while they were playing the naturals and he’s like you know with all the draft picks we’ve got you know we’re just sort of okay in the minor leagues they’re not going to be any good and they’re not going to be any good for a long long time and as I look at their team their team here they literally have almost everybody that’s in their lineup hitting under 200 yet somehow they have found a way to win one more game than the Pirates have the Pirates are a team that would have left town by now if they didn’t have a ballpark if they were in the same situation as the A’s they’d have left town years ago absolutely would have left town years ago Brandon is telling you so this is what you’re doing here Brandon is absolutely right about this he texts in at 877 377 Pittsburgh worth rooting for and even even then I’m not not 100% sold so what’s there’s 30 32 31 MLB teams you could really have a promotion relegation if you could go 40 teams of Major League cuz if you add back your couple candidate teams and and you add a couple more teams and you have two divisions where you don’t have to worry about this this bogus of of Oakland and Pittsburgh where they can play against each other and the winner of that division you know then the then then whoever loses the next I don’t know you have 18 teams in each division maybe six team but you could really have a true promotion relegation and it would make for a better product I do think eventually there’ll be a change in the construct uh the construction of Major League Baseball to where you’re doing an East West thing yeah with conferences like you don’t want to see bad you want to see teams that are competitive competitive and equal as far as that’s what I like about this this Clippers Maverick series you know they’re they’re both just equal it’s like neither one of these teams is going to win the title but man they’re they’re sure good to watch right now man and they and they they match up so well so if you take your Oakland and your Pittsburgh and your couple other your white socks who I think have won eight games this year and you take those team and they play against each other just a better product well I also think that regionality should have something to do with it baseball’s become a regional sport within each team’s footprint and and it’s still a national sport to a degree but nowhere near the level of basketball and you know the NBA and the NFL so I think you want to you want to take advantage of that regionality and there’s no difference between the leagues now the divisions um you know are one thing but everybody plays each other there’s no DH uh I I don’t know why we’re still holding on to the National League American League thing other than just to say tradition you know the leagues used to have the leagues used to be separate separate identities separate entities that had different presidents it’s been years since that was a thing so they’re just assuming that you’re taking the private flight to the Louisville airport and you’re getting uh you’re getting um you’re getting you’re getting police to lead you the way to to Church Hill Downs and everything I guess I would I would kind of hope that coach Pitman comes and watches a baseball game because we’re here too just an hour away but you know when you’re when you’re going when you’re going to the Kentucky Derby mostly you’re just you’re going to the derby and maybe going to visit some of the something on the Bourbon Trail which I don’t think I’ll have a chance to go take a look at either but that’ll be one thing I would coming through Kentucky I’ve driven up through Kentucky on the way back to Pittsburgh a few times but I’ve always had the kids so I’m not doing the Bourbon Trail with the kids but that’d be a that’d be something I’d you know you want to do the uh you want to go visit the world World Cup at some point Matt we can do that maybe we can get sponsorships for the Bourbon Trail I think that’d be fun maybe the bourbon people could sponsor Our World Cup trip ooh see then we’d be working see you’ve got it all figured out as far as uh as far as the marketing is concerned in many of these cases yeah I don’t even know any of the horses that are in the derby but I I mean couldn’t tell you one thing about it but it’s pretty cool yeah yeah and but like on a day like it’s going to be tomorrow like it’s going to be wet it’s going to be soaking wet out there the heaviest horses when it’s when it’s muddy because they they’re a little more I mean they’re mutters you you would want the heavier the heavier horse see that’s that’s what I my novice thinking of well you brought up the football tournament M yeah yeah well it slows the it slows it down so the if you’re quicker faster making the field wet and muddy it it brings it slows you down it gives you it gives you a chance anyways I I just know it’s like so you know we’re not playing on any on any natural surfaces a Kentucky proud Park and that means you have a chance to you know to play but as I’m watching the races um at the at the Oaks man it’s like every step each of these horses takes just as a humongous div and I’d already be a little frightened to be on a on an animal that large that’s running that fast but if it’s on a track that’s made of mud gosh these guys are uh these jockeys are going to be lightning so uh we might Dodge a few rain drops tonight but I expect it we’ll play and it’s it’s good chance of rain every single day look I go into every single weekend with this baseball team expecting that they can always win two out of three and and maybe have a chance to sweep what I don’t want to see happen is a double header again because I feel like the double header last week last week in against Florida kind of cost Arkansas a chance to maybe sweep CU you had guys that usually would pitch twice in a weekend that you just couldn’t pitch twice in a weekend maybe even the week before you could say the same thing but just because of how good they are on the mound they’re always in every game and until I’m proven otherwise I just go in each weekend expecting that they they they can win every game and they probably will win two out of three as good as kuy’s been that can change this weekend but just like I say with the lineup right now and the the struggle to score I think they are what they are I think I think you’re going to need to win games six to four 4 to2 every once in a while there’ll be like a seven or eight Run quote unquote explosion but if you’re waiting for some kind of explosion offensively that just catches fire I just don’t know if that happens but that also goes along with the idea that this pitching staff is exactly what they are which is dominant missing a lot of bats very difficult to put together consistent at bats against inning after inning and that goes a long way pitching keeps you in games more more than hitting keeps to Inn really good game so far uh and NHL’s wrapped up their first round uh about the same time uh I’ve got uh Arkansas softball coming into their final regular season weekend series with old mes uh and uh uh razor back baseball team looks like uh they’re staying strong and consistent enough to probably make a deep run into the College World Series coming up so all kinds of exciting things going on in uh in the sports waging World there you got Arkansas two and a half run favorite against Kentucky today with this uh series starting up that that’s a big line for two teams with the same record but it just goes to show you what the betters think of Hagen Smith more than anything else right exactly exactly he’s been almost unhitable this year so it uh usually he gets a run he’s got a win so um it’s that’s where it’s look like it fell and that is pretty consistent line with uh what is up nationally um you mentioned the NBA and one of the teams that’s left I feel like it’s it’s a team that our kons um have reasons to adopt uh because of a couple of guys that are from Fort Smith that also played for Arkansas that are on the Thunder you know they’re regionally they’re not they’re not far away from from uh from many cities in the state so there’s a chance to go see them in person at times um Oklahoma City is is this is this is this a a franchise that you can tell just on BET Sison has has people’s attention inside the state of Arkansas they do uh they’re regularly one of the uh one of the more moreb uh NBA teams uh we also have some Affinity with Memphis as well just because of the location um we see quite a bit of action on the Grizzlies as well well they’ve got a big a big one coming up here see that uh plus 325 to uh to win the West it’d be a good thing to see them continue to move on another thing I also see um up on the top of the bets a is an app when you when you see the menu of all the sports that you can choose from with all of their different uh different different logos for the sports on the end to the right are the Olympics which were I guess about a month or two away from the Olympics but there’s a lot of uh I was going to say like preseason but pre-olympic bats that fans can get in on and man I mean everybody loves the Olympics especially the Summer Olympics uh this will be the first time right that bet szon has has been active that the Olympics have have been going on yeah this is the first one we’ve been act active actively up and running um during the Olympics and uh mostly what we do is we take uh Wagers on the uh the team things things that are decided on the field uh uh like the basketball and and those type of sports um things that are decided by by uh judges generally don’t qualify just because they’re subjective and we’d like to make sure it’s something that is is settled on a quarter play or on the on the field and there’s a lot of options down here that feel to me like it’s like how how would somebody be able to figure out what they think how many medals Poland is going to win I mean that’s getting that is that’s getting into that’s getting into the that’s that’s some pretty esoteric stuff here you know how many medals will Great Britain winning everything but I mean you do just a little research maybe you can find the right number for you yeah with with Google it’s not hard to find Historical numbers and and Trends and see what uh what looks like it might be likely to happen so uh everybody’s got that capability to do that research uh pretty quickly these days you know everybody loves postseason the baseball postseason for college uh really starts with with the SEC tournament and that’s four weeks away the softball SEC tournament though is next week uh in Auburn so they close out the regular season here and then the SEC tournament and then selections and then and then it’s the postseason and when you got softball and baseball in the NCAA postseason and from all results it looks like Arkansas should be hosting in both Sports um you ought to get a lot of action on that too oh we definitely do we definitely do uh we’ve been the only place that has had the uh the gr softball up all season long um we had line on every single game that they played this year so uh we go out of our way I have uh myself and and uh one of my key guys uh make sure those lines are up and available and uh uh we pride ourselves on making sure that we cover have the strong coverage on the loc local Arkansas teams here of course UFC specials uh boxing specials F1 racing specials everything right there that’s that’s usually the first thing that I look at when I get on the B there as an app are what the featured events are and and what specials you have you have attached to it that’s the that’s right there in the middle of the screen so it must be the kind of thing that V szon wants to show their you know your customers immediately when they get on there those have to be I would assume the most popular uh the most popular of the bets and usually you’re going to find any Arkansas specials on that little section there for Featured events exactly and we also make sure that the Arkansas teams are front that are on the on the first page as well so if you’re looking to bet something uh uh it’s it’s really easy to find um softball is usually in the uh in the softball specials for the Arkansas Team but they’re always up there are the Cardinals still a popular bet in Arkansas as as disappointing as they’ve been this is Cardinal country people still people still putting their money on them are they putting their money against the Cardinals it’s it’s it’s it’s died down a little bit I think if they show some life uh sometime in the next month or too that a lot of those folks come back but um uh it has we had some a gentleman that come came in always uh uh early in the season and put big bets on the Cardinals and we haven’t seen him yet this year so I don’t know if he’s uh just out of the area or is just uh waiting to see if there’s going to be any life for the team or not yeah so it’s like if I if I were betting man and I was going to do now I can’t do baseball cuz I got I’m active in baseball but it’s like I would put I would always put my money against the Pirates just because and no other reason and just that’s my hometown team that’s the team that I and I have no faith in whatsoever you know if I was looking to win I would always put money against the Pirates I mean do you find do you find um do you find that when things are going in a NE negative direction for the teams that are local you know Regional whether it’s razor backs or you know like maybe even like the Saints you could say they’re Regional to Arkansas too that generally the money starts going against them I’ve seen a lot of that um particularly when uh like this year with the um with the football team at about half halfway through the year the sentiment changed and we started seeing uh quite a bit of people loading up on on who they were playing uh that week so uh it does happen and uh there’s I mean in baseball we have consistently uh uh consistently High play on obviously the the Yankees and the Dodgers are always one of my heaviest bet teams and it’s just because they usually win or they have a history of winning so um but uh I just was gonna end for a moment here just on on something that I I I’m not finding on the app Kevin and Fort Smith had texted in asking about bets on the Kentucky Derby and and I hadn’t brought it up because I don’t see it on the app is that available on BET szin no it’s not and it has to do with um the geographical rulings for existing uh racetracks we have to we don’t have enough separation between us and and uh our competitors across the across the way and so we’re not allowed to uh not allowed to take horse racing understood understood it needed to at least put that out because I think people you know on a weekend like this would associate you know racing with with with beding on almost anywhere that they can but it turns out it’s not anywhere that you can do it no exactly it’s just it’s just by by the regulations that been in people that are in radio but but he he’s got a hold on the Kentucky listenership in a way that I’m not sure if there are many people that have that kind of hold on a single listenership the way that he does so they they do good work and hey the chili on cornbread is good too I don’t know if that’s got anything to do with the quality of their radio shows but the chili on cornbread is high quality now if you bet Arkansas you get four to one if you bet uh uh Texas in it was 5 to one I think went down to four and a half to one and then if you bet Tennessee it’s the one okay and and and so even if you bet say 100 each no matter which team of those three teams win you’ll get your money back bu you know sure you’re doing some you’re doing some some uh some bet hedging there aren’t you yeah I mean and then and then check this out here here’s an even better bet for you fans they have another bet where it’s uh predicting which if they’re going to make it just to the make it to the World Series don’t have to win it make it to it and it’s the same thing if you bet you know uh Arkansas they’re favored you’ll get one and a half tons of money Texas in you get twice as much and Tennessee you get like three or four times as much just to make it not not to actually win the thing just to get in there and make it and uh so and and I’m almost guaranteed that two of us are two teams are going to make it from the SEC because they’re you know the SEC and everybody else you know I mean nobody else is really oh yeah me annually three or four teams make it from the SEC almost every year so it’s just a matter of if you I mean if you’re putting money on it it’s picking the right teams because it isn’t always the teams that host you know there will be there will probably be four teams that host from the SEC maybe a fifth if you’re looking just at the first round because I think South Carolina’s got a good uh has a very good resume too but that that you know Old Miss they played on the road when they won the National Championship Arkansas the last time they went to Omaha they had to play on the road twice so it’s what the SEC does is it actually steals the teams who have to go on the road for incredibly difficult uh situations on the road because they’re just kind of used to it playing in the SEC big Keith good to hear from you thank you uh Jason’s in Frank well so is this is Jason in Frankfurt but I think it might be Jason in Lexington or at least on the way to Lexington You’ got plans to make it to the series this weekend Jason yeah yeah um max dad uh has generously um 4:30 eastern time how how long have a drive is it from Frankfurt that is the state capital right it it is the state capital it’s a 45 minute drive um so not terrible uh to get over to to kpp at the Kentucky proud Park so yeah it’s I’ve been told I’ve been told because because of because of graduation and because of the sellout at Kentucky proud Park that you might want to add maybe another 20 to 25 minutes or just to leave a little bit earlier is what I was is what I was told you can feel you can feel it around down town there’s just a few more people in town than usual I think graduation is the major reason why and the other aspect is you know I think most people that are that came to Lexington to go to Louisville they’re in Louisville for now so you should be okay as far as that goes yeah yeah so it’ll be fine I’ll park over and the I’ve already got the parking worked out so we’re uh we’re looking forward to it hopefully the uh the rain just is a steady slow uh for most of the time and we don’t see any TH or hear any Thunder or see any lightning so looking forward to seeing it hope I hope I’ll wave up to you if I get a chance to pick out where you’re sitting so yeah no I got your text the other day I’ll uh I’ll flip you a message okay super that sounds good so the reason I was calling though is these last three series um I don’t necessarily consider Kentucky baseball to be the man um but the uh Ric Flair whom Eddie I’m surprised Eddie hasn’t called this then to to beat to be the man you got to beat the man and so these next three series you’re just kind of establishing yourself as the man for for 2024 so looking forward to seeing how they do tonight and then obviously back home and then down in at Texas A&M down the college station so you know J Jason I think I think this series if I were to just to put like a level of importance for one program or another it I think this means a lot to Kentucky because if they want to look like they are a rising program in the SEC what happens in the first seven weeks of the SEC season isn’t what tells you that it’s who you beat you know and they just they they desperately wanted to beat Tennessee cuz Tennessee has has has risen to that level since Tony Vella became the coach they are one of the best programs in the SEC no doubt that series meant a ton to Kentucky and they lost it and then they lose two out of three against South Carolina that’s a program that you know has has not they haven’t been to Omaha since 2012 but they’ve got the two national titles they’ve got the big fan base they’ve got the great Ballpark and Kentucky went there and they laid an egg I mean they got shut out 10 nothing in the last game which was a rubber match so you know I mean whatever happens this weekend for Arkansas the baseball program I think still stays at whatever level it’s been um but for Kentucky like this for Optics they’re treating this like this is the biggest series that they’ve had here in years even bigger than the Tennessee series because the level of success that Arkansas has is just been a little more consistent than Tennessee in the last six seven years so I think it I think this means massive things to them to their fans to their coaching staff and to their players too so it’s like whoever comes out and just plays a little Palmer uh is going to win and that’s why I trust Arkansas cuz the when you have a pitching staff like they have when you’ve got guys who feeli the ball like they have you just you’re calmer and ky’s going to try to get them off their game and make them nervous make him think about the base running make him think about the small ball and all of that and every once in a while you get a team that tries to play like that aggressively on the bases and they run themselves out of innings like that’s a huge thing and you can really change the direction of a game or at least the momentum of a game if you catch a guy stealing you know or strike him out throw him out or you get him to pop up a bunt because they just wasted an out um this thing can work both ways and I think it very well could work both ways uh these next three games totally agree 100% I my my impression is that it it would work really great if they took two or three from from Kentucky for a national feeding perspective just to keep in that that top eight National seed so that that’s what I’m looking for just a team that’s ready to hit and uh ready to have fun so yeah well I mean even just what the team that wins one game in this series even even I’d be surprised if anybody sweeps just because they’re playing at such a high level but just winning one it it h it helps it really does help it’s like you look Dave Van Horn says this all the time every every game that you play in the SEC counts the same we go by series cuz it’s two out of three each weekend and winning is series means something but if you win one game in a weekend against their an Arkansas team that is so high up in the rankings that means a lot to South Carolina the one game that they beat the Razer backs um that that goes a long way to them actually having a case to host instead of getting swept to win one I mean even for Arkansas this weekend if they lose the series but win one that’s why it’s called a salvage it’s not going to cost them hosting if they lose two out of three you get swept now you’re talking about things Chang changing a little bit next up on the mclary Daniel hotline is William William what’s going on how are you I’m doing well just driving through the hills of Kentucky trying to get there um I’m G relate something to this series does it feel like that 2021 series vers Tennessee content away because massive weekend for them and you said it’s gonna be sold out all three games it just when I heard that that’s where my mind went it feels a lot like that series when we went to Knox and um I I I remember the series you’re talking about and and potentially that could be there there’s a little bit of that there you know just like all right well here comes Arkansas they’re ranked number one they’ve they’ve been playing at this high level for so many years this is a measuring stick for our program um but I think there was a little bit more involved with Tennessee because I me you remember the shouting match that dvh and vitello had at the end of the final game that’s because they were recruiting the same players that comes from them coaching together that comes from other coaches that work for Tony playing for Arkansas or working for Dave as an assistant coach and there isn’t any of that between Kentucky and Arkansas none of it at all um so yeah there’s a little bit of the same thing because they don’t play each other so often and and I do think that this series means more to Kentucky not to say it doesn’t mean anything to Arkansas it does um but I don’t think that there’s that I don’t know which how to put it because it wasn’t nastiness necessarily you know that Tennessee team played with a lot of nastiness I think Kentucky plays with a little more oh I don’t know I mean there’s a little goofy in The Dugout not in a not in a like a pimp coat way you know not in a way that’s going to that should piss anybody off they just goof they just goof around um so I don’t I don’t view it exactly the same but maybe a little bit the same William stadium is it not they have a news Stadium don’t they it’s pretty nice right I think it open in I think we were there the year it open 2019 uh Kentucky proud Park it’s a nice ballpark look I it it’s I don’t think there’s anything special about it it’s a nice park um they did a nice job of they spent $49 million on it and I remember standing there once looking I was like this is $49 million thought it would be a little bit nicer it’s not a dump it’s really nice it’s a heck of a lot nicer than the last Park cliff Haagen Stadium which I felt was a death trap to any who played there yeah that place was awful yeah but all right maybe I’ll see you this weekend Phil okay thanks for the phone call William I appreciate it was forget who it was I was talking about this they were talking about I think it was was it the previous coach at uh at Kentucky which was Gary Henderson who then went to be the pitching coach at Mississippi State and I don’t know where Henderson is now he might be the head coach at Utah but they said something to the effect of it might have been John Cohen that treated it that way cuz Cohen who’s now the ad at Auburn was the baseball coach of Kentucky for a long time before going to Mississippi State they said something to the effect of well they triy to make it feel like Wrigley Field and like try to make it like like the bathrooms are too cramped and nobody could fit in their seats and if you ran into the wall you might actually you know knock your head off there was nothing Wrigley fi like about Cliff haen Stadium other than the idea that it felt like it was that it was built before the start of time that was the worst ballpark in the SEC that was the worst Park in the SEC now it’s Missouri’s ballpark cuz Kentucky proud Park is nice but I do remember standing there thinking $49 million bought this thought it’d be a little bit nicer thought he’d be a little bit bigger hey time to wrap up Hal timeon
