it is thirsty Thursday the 9th of May and I have a I don’t know prechool not a graduate he’s first year preschool but I went to a Preschool Celebration today he’s got two years of preschool’s he’s doing three we’re red shirting Luke August birthday baby got the red shirt getting a red shirt on that boy he’s too crazy man he’s too tough and too psychotic to not get red shirted like we got to make sure we’re with the oldest kid in the grade make all the big top teams like we’re trying to do this right way you know what I mean he doesn’t need it academically or socially but athletically he’s a social kid but athletically he’s going to be the be the man be the man so be the Luke first year of preschool in the books luky passed he said Chris he said yesterday I go can you believe you’re done with school he was like that was hard Dad okay I said oh yeah he goes that was like 10 days of school I was like yeah maybe a little more than that buddy but he was like maybe 12 tops maybe 12 so I got a done with school we got two weeks from today my the my other three kids get done with school and it’s summer summer summer summer time how you doing Chris good man it is summertime head coach on what you think could enhance the program very dangerous thing to do because this is his program and if you put too much [ __ ] in there to enhance it he’s like yo this guy thinks his program’s [ __ ] up so you had to like pick one or two things and be like I think these two would be good ideas to add to the best program ever coach like you had to do it politically but that was my idea I I said we should turn that into a sports science like uh with a projector where where kids can get mental reps with a video screen almost like uh virtual reality and so he was all in on it but they wouldn’t spend the money to do it so we literally had Luke L Luke and I talked about it and then Luke did it they got a ladder put it in the back of the ret ball court with a projector on it like extension cords and all this [ __ ] it was so [ __ ] janky but it was badass linebackers could stand there they would projected on the racket ball wall and it would be the video shot of an offensive play and they could take their steps read pulling guards and get reps in what essentially was virtual reality so this is badass I didn’t know that that they had taken it this far this is like a legit ass fully built out virtual reality to get reps to walk through a receiver can line up and read its triangle safety Corner Alley Defender and try to identify coverages and it’s it’s really big time for development and this is something I was pushing for back in like 20 13 that’s really cool I guess I was confused about what it could be used for and is that some a chance for guys to get extra work outside of like practice too yeah it’s a way to get practice reps on your own without wasting getting like spending practice time yeah because otherwise you have to have scout team to give you the look it’s like no no no we have video just put the video up there and let me let me go play 20 plays and read my keys take my drops get all that mental work in I think that’s outstanding good for Matt rule getting that done at Nebraska that’s [ __ ] huge I mean Top ofthe Line stuff like screens used by NASA like dude and the pictures we should have put the pictures up there that’s [ __ ] sweet I mean it’s a full 20 yard turf field so you’re talking about you could if you’re the middle linebacker you read run pass play action you could take a full drop a and and you can run and then Panic drop you can do all that [ __ ] this is Big Time this is Big Time [ __ ] so I guess I I didn’t quite understand what what it could be used for but that that makes a lot of sense I mean it sounds like Matt Ru over there has got the full Financial backing oh yeah and full backing of Nebraska more than it sounds like he had a Baylor and definitely more support at least that he had for the Panthers football and I don’t know if they’re the first school to have it but if not I promise you Ohio State right now is like we need that we have we have to have that they’re the first ones I’ve seen it and I wonder if this will be kind of the next arms race because like a lot of people talk about facilities and like do they matter do they not matter and for me this is like the first case of oh this could be something like I’m surprised that it’s Nebraska being first rather than like Obama well me too Georgia me too but that’s that’s just Innovation right it’s whoever whoever comes up with the idea my idea in 2013 was you’ve seen the show show Sports Science where they do like oh andic Sue delivers 17.4 pounds of pressure like I used to love that show show is so [ __ ] cool and they did one if you you go all the way back they did one on I think it was Calvin Johnson maybe but on his reaction time his ability his hand eye coordination and they had this [ __ ] wall with a hole through it and they he would run like a dig and they’d shoot a ball through it and he couldn’t see it till the last second and they talked about how crazy his re action time was and I saw it and I’m like we need that and I I brought it to to Urban and he was like that’s I don’t even know how to build that that’s too expensive blah BL blah I love the idea but we can’t do it I was like the [ __ ] so I just on the weekends in offseason built one got some plywood got some Wheels cut a hole in that [ __ ] painted it up put a zone six logo on it and drove that [ __ ] in my truck to the Woody put it right in the indoor and guess what there’s a famous video of Michael Thomas catching one-handed they Ed it all the time I have videos of Noah Brown using it Paris gble and it’s just trying to train them reaction time like okay this is real life like when you do the jugs machine you can just see the ball perfectly go into the machine come out of the machine that’s not football in football there’s lineman and [ __ ] and all of a sudden the ball just shoots out and you’re like oh [ __ ] the ball like it’s not real life to just look at the quarterback and watch him throw you the ball so we started using it and it was training reaction time and I saw an immense Improvement in ball skills because of that and a bunch of other things we did but this is the future I promise you Chris in the next five to 10 years there it is right there look at that 20 yard indoor with a [ __ ] virtual reality screen just imagine a middle linebacker standing there in the middle of the field and he’s looking at a full offensive formation right in front of him there’s gonna be this is going to get expanded upon and I I the sports science we saw Sabin do it when he brought in those Indiana Duo strength and conditioning coaches football is going to Trend towards Sports Science more and more every year and this is a this is a step in that direction right here I’m glad I asked you about this because when I saw it I did not realize it was this big of a deal it is it’s a huge deal like I I I didn’t realize it and now I’m kind of I mean I’m sure you think I mean I’m sure if Nick Sabin was still coaching he’d be freaking out right now oh dude Alabama would there there would be [ __ ] engineers in Nick sabin’s office today yeah well [ __ ] shout out to shout out to Matt Rule and and a massive step in the right direction it’s huge it’s it’s huge and you’re gonna see more and more of this in college football I bet you’re going to start seeing like sports science labs and I even go back to the Kinesiology department at Florida when they put all the you know how EA Sports does those things with the little probes all over athletes animations yeah to make the animation look real they did it with tbo’s throwing motion so they could have a full diagram and watch it and it was just something cool for recruiting they never did anything with it and I’m like well that’s when I saw that I’m like why don’t we do this with everyone all the time and it goes back to the stuff I told you about LSU and Jack maruchi studying eye discipline and pupil dilation it’s just it’s a fascinating look into Athletics that I think college football has barely scratched the surface on do you worry about Ohio state with other schools being more willing to get Innovative because I mean obviously like you and I have talked about how Ohio State didn’t want to do like some of the medical casting stuff because there wasn’t enough testing they did obviously yeah they they did I mean bully ball got involved there but even like you guys with the walkthrough room we couldn’t really do it unless you had to kind of do it yourselves like do you think Ohio State if other schools start to really uptick in this kind of Department like if LSU gets this or Georgia gets this you think that’ll put the pressure on allio to do it or do you think that they’ll be stubborn kind of push back a lot of times Chris it’s like it it was when I brought it up it was such a bizarre concept and it seemed like it was so much money it’s like damn like that seems a little extreme yeah right and it’s not that Urban was all in but he’s like I don’t even know how to pitch this to Jean and Jee will be like what do you mean a sports science like what walk now that you visually can see it and Nebraska’s doing it it’s like this is what I’m talking about and it kudos to Nebraska for believing in a vision and just running with it but yeah now that you now that you have tangible like here is here is one example now athletic directors across the country gonna be like oh [ __ ] that’s yeah I see the benefit because I can see it well at Ohio State and Clemson we’re building waterfalls in Nebraska they got this [ __ ] dope ass room yeah it’s sweet but don’t get me wrong there’s other ways to get it done that aren’t as nice but for recruiting just think about that for recruiting you take a recruit in there and you’re like no no this is virtual reality you could literally spend four hours in here and get a thousand reps every day and you’ll be game ready that much faster will this help quarterbacks too who who was this most beneficial quarterbacks Mike linebacker I mean the center of your your team right center yeah centers quarterbacks Mike linebackers safeties that’s what benefits the most okay now receivers you can do some stuff but not near as much as a quarterback quarter oh my imagine it’s just playing Madden but you’re actually playing yeah Dyan was about to get a 10,000 reps and be the [ __ ] man if he’s a grinder he will oh yeah that’s uh that that that one I guess is up debate a little bit um I wanted to ask you about this the Boise State head coach had this to say so at Boise State they’ve now banned freshman from making na nil dollars um basically if you’re looking for an easy way and you’re looking for a handout don’t come to Boise State um no freshman are eligible to make any nil money during the first year in the program whether they pay play or not and he wants players to work and earn it thoughts on him coming out and saying this publicly I mean one no you can’t do that that freshman goes talks to the owner of a McDonald’s and says I want to oh yeah post you like you can’t do that it’s legal first of all it could be a team Rule and you got you’re gonna have to kick them off the team if they do it but you can’t tell them they can’t do that and they absolutely can do that but it’s like anything else I guess that’s their choice right they don’t have to be on the team it’s Boise State how many [ __ ] nil players are they getting out of high school like how many players are they getting that could even get an nil deal none the only person to get an nil deal is somebody that becomes a household name on the field at Boise so it’s not that big a deal kudos to him for saying it publicly but I could push back and be like hey uh Hey Spencer none of those kids could get an nil deal anyways yeah I think their their top recruit they had committed last cycle was a top 50 kid and then he ended up decommitting committing to Oregon yeah the the white kid that ran the 102 oh yeah yeah I remember that random like randomly picked Boise State over [ __ ] Michigan and then ended up at Oregon because we knew that was gonna happen yeah I uh I I don’t think that’s a good thing to come out and say I don’t think that’s a good team rule to have because like in the nil era we’ve watched some G5 schools land some good players b off the backs of nil like why would you why would you take that out of your Arsenal entirely I have no idea right like I got I get what you’re saying about like guys that go there are gonna have to be n like I I get the culture thing right no no no you’re gonna come here you’re GNA earn it we’re a tough program blah I get it like that’s what he’s trying to say like no we’re we’re not you haven’t done [ __ ] yet you don’t you haven’t earned [ __ ] yet come earn it then you’ll get it I love that mentality not really great for recruiting not going to help you on the trails but I get the philosophy I guess for me it makes it seem like Boise State doesn’t want to be quote unquote gimmicky or whatever they want to be like a microwave meal but when I think about Boise State and maybe it’s [ __ ] up in me I think about just like the most gimmicky University because like why why are they famous blue Turf and Statue of Liberty yeah blue Turf trick plays right yeah you talk about you want talk about we don’t believe in the gimmicks we want you to work hard we want this this and this it’s like damn all right hook and ladder Statue of Liberty beat Oklahoma like y’all should have leaned into being the silly school like y’all should have leaned into being the Savannah bananas of of college football they kind of are right like lean into it like what do you mean no nil no go have fun at Boise State there’s not [ __ ] to do out there but [ __ ] drop trick plays right like why are you trying to become army right like you you are the Savannah bananas of college football embrace it grow with it run with it if the coach doesn’t have a little bit of Mike Leech in him I don’t want him coaching at Boise State like period like I want I want Captain dogs talk I I want you know hook and I want Statue when coaches sneak dis Hugh freze got asked about the developing quarterbacks instead of spending money he said that the number one goal is to develop instead of spending millions of dollars the options that you had presented with develop Payton uh develop Holden develop Hank develop Walker or go spend a million dollars on this guy or that guy I just couldn’t bring myself to doing that because I wanted to put all the pieces together Zack last year alurn wenton on multiple runs of under a 100 passing yards in a game yeah um what’s up with Hugh saying this I agree with Hugh but you gotta win right like he just got there Auburn was I mean I was told by a former ACC head coach that Auburn was the least talented SEC team he’d ever seen when he went to Spring ball in Hugh Freeze’s first year that’s a train wreck [ __ ] the guy from Brian harson from Boise just obliterated that program talk about Talent deficiency I’d have spent a million dollars I would have I’m Hugh fre I get what he’s saying and I agree I I I think that that statement applies to Ryan day more than anyone it’s like you recruited all these highly touted quarterbacks develop them why are we paying will Howard a million dollars to come in because now he kind of has to be the guy right you just bought him for a million dollars and if he’s not the guy you just wasted a million dollars I I think you got to do better in recruiting and development and you’ll never have to do that you could you could hear the sneak dissing that was going on there because there’s what three quarterbacks that all got transferred got right around rumor a million dollars cam Ward will Howard and uh Dylan Gabriel there was one quarterback room that recruited their ass off and got a guy from down there and you know had the five stars in there it was Ohio state this is a direct shot but does Suri has a have a leg to stand on with this Zack last cycle they took 14 transfers they just spent a good amount of money to land kre Lambert Smith on top of signing 16 if you go back to 23 they brought in I believe over 20 transfers a lot of them being high-end guys yeah but the difference is there’s not another position on the field where you only play one oh okay every other position even running back you’re gonna play two yeah tight end you’re gonna play two like linebacker to an extent you should play more than just two four linebackers yeah three or four so like if you go out and pay a guy a million bucks it’s not like oh the rest of the room is like sorry guys we just bought this kid you’re going to have to sit on the bench like if if heartline went out and got I don’t even know the receiver let’s say went out and got him the best receiver in the portal paid him a bunch of money brought him in that doesn’t mean [ __ ] for Cardell Tate he could still be one of the three but we would be looking at at Brian Hart a little sideways if that happen yeah he Hardline doesn’t have to that’s why I mean I think I think we flirted with trying remember the Kyle Ford kid I here’s a better example you got trayon Henderson coming back are you gonna spend a bunch of money to bring in Quin Shan jins [ __ ] yeah yeah does that mean anything for trayon no he’s still going to get his he’s still going to eat you have a two- running back system but you go out and get will Howard that means a lot to and we had emry Jones committed and he’s like yo what the [ __ ] were y’all doing like MH we can’t win with any of these dudes and so he needed an answer right and he Dwayne H Haskins was the only guy and thank God we had him and when Dwayne was done one and done it was like [ __ ] we don’t have a quarterback so he had to go get him well now he’s recruited all these quarterbacks right he recruited CJ strout he recruited Jack Miller he recruited Kyle McCord he recruited Devin Brown Aaron Olan all these kids and if you now say you don’t have a quarterback that’s a you and your recruiting problem big difference from when he walked into a shitty situation and had to bring in Justin fields and it is wild the difference in quarterbacks is kind of where they are like CJ strad is like as a as a red shirt freshman was like ready to go and we all knew he was the guy like Lincoln kenel as a red shirt freshman we’re sitting here thinking like will he ever play a snap at Ohio State yeah for sure and that’s like definitely a a weird thing to go through when you were at Ohio State right when Matt Baldwin was being recruited did you ever think he would play at Ohio State no I didn’t really know much about him I mean I know Ryan thought he was a kind of a under the radar Late Bloomer got a chance type of kids he wasn’t like [ __ ] yeah we got our guy like when Tom Herman found JT Barrett he was like dude I’m telling you this kid’s different when Tom Herman found Joe burrow he was like dude I’m telling you this kid I [ __ ] love him like Tom Herman was a hell of a talent evaluator he really was not a great quarterback fundamental coach but a phenomenal Talent evaluator and and a phenomenal play caller and just look at his track record yeah I mean JT Cardell Joe burrow just phenomenal phenomenal yeah that is a good track record all all those guys could play and you kind of make makes me wonder what it goes into it T Shaw is in the chat saying if you think Lincoln should be ready as a true freshman you’re part of the problem here’s where I kind of disagree with that a little bit I don’t think he needs to be ready but I think he needed to show more in that bowl game than he did because if you look at other true freshman from around the country that Ohio State didn’t go on those guys got ready including the guy that pushed will Howard out of Kansas State well reier right ready but ready than what we watch in the like we saw plenty of true freshman go out there yeah during during bowl season and the one that looked The Worst by far was lincol kenol like link there’s no reason for Lincoln to look worse than Avery Johnson no and the other side of that is Avery Johnson was the two right okay Lincoln was the three I mean [ __ ] Miller Moss he he was the three at first and then first and then he beat out the second guy he was the two so he got reps you know what I mean like it’s unfair to blame Lincoln when Lincoln was on Scout team don’t blame Lincoln I’m not saying blame him I’m saying it’s like to expect him to be ready in the bowl game is a little bit dreamy right like he was the scout team quarterback all the way up until Kyle mccor jumped in the portal then it’s like ah [ __ ] he hasn’t taken a rep like and that’s partly a failure but some of these true freshmen were getting reps so the jury’s still out on Lincoln for sure he was a project out of high school anyways yeah he was he was a project do you think he looked ready in the spring game or you think he looked yeah I mean he looked better than the bowl game but that’s a low bar link Lincoln keol just concerns me with how his development is being handled as as all I’m saying and I don’t think Lincoln’s gonna play here yeah um I hope he does but I don’t think he is [ __ ] we the starter it’s like I honestly think Ryan day should take just take this approach yeah because I don’t think he’s good at managing quarterback battles in the fall well here’s the deal now there’s no Devin Brown was Lighty years better or will Howard won the job why wouldn’t he name it now why wouldn’t he yeah oh I don’t know the only reason the only logical reason that he wouldn’t is he hasn’t decided yet at least not with 100% conviction he’s not for sure who it’s GNA be so if he doesn’t name the starter in the next couple weeks I want to know why Give Me A Reason in the chat why would he he’s in the battle oh absolutely he does otherwise he probably would have left went yeah I I don’t know I I felt like I felt like Lincoln would have got out of here because of how close saian seems to have 85 you can’t do it with 53 what record this year from Clemson would make Davos Sweeny seat maybe a little warm eight and five seven and five five I think you lose they lost four last year if they lose five or more this year that [ __ ] is going to start turning up now the the next thing is is like if you’re Clemson if you’re the Clemson boosters do you think Clemson has the nuts to turn on What kind of topic could they have on their initial episodes to create a following than something that involves the largest fan base in the country in The Ohio State University.
