how often I see this question is ridiculous I know rushing the down swing is my biggest problem no matter how much I try I can’t stop now I’m on the 14th hole here at mom Hall made round playing and I just thought I would show you three nuggets of information that you can literally use in round now take to your next round try it arrange pretty much instantly stop you rushing your down strength this is something that I carry with me in my brain as my visuals as my recipe to good go where I put less effort in get more out every single time I am out on the golf course let me show you these three I want to say one thing get way more Visual and far less technical we all just go too Technical and it really winds me up so number three on our list going to work to number one here it sounds basic but it’s truly a great recipe finish your back swing all the top players in the world like Ernie L’s Freddy Couples Ben Hogan Tiger Woods the list go goes on even John ran with a short swing finishes the back swing so how I think about this I don’t think about back to Target because everyone’s swing is different lengths but what I say is this I want you to feel that wherever that is if your finished back swing is there or it’s here or it’s like John Da round here you can count one at the top you got to go one now if it’s there it’s one essentially you get to a point where you’ve not stopped but you’ve completed something it’s not a rush it’s not starting down before you’ve gone up it gives you time to sync up your arms and your body so my simple advice for you on point number three remember going to work down on this is one one complete that back swing now how I think about visualizing this let’s think about some modern day players right here karawa really nice and slow deliberate to the top hii Mai armor again very slow and deliberate to the top so maybe to complete that back swing and say that one we could really think about the back swing being the slowest point of our swing so you could really go and think okay one and through we actually feel there’s a bit more of a ratio change between how long it takes me to do the back swing and then how long it takes me to do a down swing rather than it looking like a bit of a blur and all the same so just try a little shot like this remember I do this in round and I want you to encourage you to do this too one oh I just love it right it just really works I feel like a coiled spring like ready to elate straight into that ball rather than just going I’m like one boom and go yeah yeah you know what it is elasticated that is the word that’s how I feel when I complete my back swing that’s Point number three point number two when I was younger I tried to stand on the golf course and impersonate my favorite golfer it was probably Tiger Woods in the 90s that style swing or it could be Freddy Couples could be colara now just trying to really feel you make that impersonation not your Rhythm their Rhythm because how many videos do you have online with that so simply what I would do now is get a little compilation on your phone maybe save some videos favorite this video and just go okay before I go and play a round of golf I’m going to watch that and the whole image I have in my mind out on the golf course whether it’s with drive or ions is me trying to impersonate that Rhythm cuz Rhythm you can’t touch it can you it’s not there it’s just sort of n whereas actually having that visual is something you can copy we’re not copying the swing we’re copying the Rhythm the flow because that’s the missing piece to your swing so on the golf course pick your favorite player I’m going to go coues I love that swing so look I’m going to go really nice and Rhythm impersonate and again look how I find the center of that Fairway I’m balanced it’s long I swung easy I’ve hit it 264 yards we’ve now got one more to go through and I’ll be honest with you this should be gospel to every single golfer it you should do it every single time look I told you easy smooth power just having that visual in my mind this is so key and it’s all to do with your temperament as you approach the go bu like I said this should be gospel now I’m going to caveat this I’m not saying we should have slow rounds of golf let’s walk quickly in between every single shot we don’t want five hour rounds cuz they’re ridiculous but what I want you to think about is when you get within a three yard bubble of your golfball you go slow now what I mean by slow is you walk up to the golf ball slowly you take your yardage you get your Club out I’m not saying play slow I’m saying just slow everything down you won’t believe how this will affect your Rhythm think about it right you get all frantic leaving for work you get in your car you drive your car you drive like a mad woman or a Madman because you’re frantic getting in the car well that’s the same thing if you’re frantic getting into your car I.E your shot you’re going to be frantic in the shot you can’t go from one extreme to the other now it might sound trivial but it’s not this is what all the top mind coaches in the world tell their students and I know that because when I was trying to play I was exposed to this and this is why I want to share it with you so simply when you get within three yards of your gold ball just slow everything down be a bit more relaxed be a bit more loose and Goosey and then you’re going to be a lot more better at being smoother finding more Fairways and essentially beating your mates which is all you want to do is it if you’re being perfectly honest use those three hacks out on the golf course like I do every single time I play here on the 14th and you will honestly play your best golf

  1. Alex could you please give us, the viewers, your exercise routine and some good pre round stretches ? I’m 61 and need help.
    Another great video Alex

  2. You ain't shittin….this is one of the most troublesome things for armature golfers….they rush the shot! Screws.them up EVERY TIME!

I'm just now learning to control this…its very difficult!

When you get up to the tee on the course and folks watching you, you can't help trying to smash it!

You get stiff and rush…and the result?

A lame 180 yd slice OB or into the next fairway!

    Hahahah!

  3. Question or challenge.. I'm sore you've been asked before… but have never seen a YT golfer brave enough to do it… apply everything you know teaching yourself to hit left handed… that I would like to see

  4. Great video Alex over last 2 games my driver has let me down as I’ve been topping the ball again which I haven’t done in tee shots with my driver for ages. This video could well explain part of my problem and with the other must be the way I’m addressing the ball. Will let you know how I get on in my next game this weekend.

  5. Great swing tip Alex. I was surprised to see the distance on the hole you're playing posted in yards as opposed to meters. Has it always been that way or the result of leaving the European Union?

  6. Just wanted to say as a new guy to golf that I appreciate the videos and all the work you out into these things. They are very helpful and from all of us just wanted to say thank you.

  7. What is the common fault by amateurs vs pro concerning this matter? = KNEES from the top of their swing … the knees BEND FIRST to make everything in sync on the way down as well as not having them too straight at setup … knees are the FLOW and rhythm … try all sorts AT SETUP … too straight knees vs too bent… then find YOUR flex at setup to get your flow with the club …. if u don't move with your "dancing" partner you're gonna step on toes and throw your partner all over the place… "simple" as that huh 😛 😉 All the best from Iceland …

  8. I borrowed a transition move from Monte Scheinblum. I perform a complete backswing and my next move is to fall toward the target. More specifically let my tailbone move toward a 5 o’clock position, with 12 o’clock being 180 degrees from the target line. My arms fall into the slot and shoulders remain closed. My belt buckle begins to turn and when I reach shaft parallel I can open my left hip and the clubhead explodes through the hitting area.

  9. Everyone needs to remember and keep in the back of their minds, the power and distance doesn't come from how fast your backswing is, rather how fast your downswing (club head speed) delivery is and how accurate you're hitting the ball off the face of the club.

The farther back your back swing is, the more you have less room for error and more chances of hitting an errant shot.

Same with making sure your body is turning through the golf swing with a solid/proper follow-through.

  10. Thanks Alex been teaching my grandson to play golf for 4 months now he's doing ok ,but I have to keep telling him to hit it better not harder so this video on tempo is just what he needs. the 2 golfers I based my swing on is Ernie Else and Colin Montgomery .

  11. Before a round I look at a small clip I have of Ben Hogan that I keep on my phone..It's from Youtube and its called Ben Hogan – Fundamental Swing Lesson..

  12. Great video Alex. A little tip , clean your spikes. it will give you better traction. They are "pulled " in this video!

  13. Couldn’t agree more than that.
Kindly let us know more easy way to swing, if possible.

Bud sadly enough, most of us do the other way round !!!

But regarding full finish am not very convinced. Example : Phil Mickelson, Jhon Daly, Vijay Singh etc, if am not wrong.

    😮😮😮😮

By the way, who has made this golf swing so much complicated !!!!

    Too much Alex!! 😢😢.

Time has come to 'outsource' the swing !!! 😂😂😂

  14. Wow! Alex, you just described my game. I can't wait to use this tip. The car analogy is spot on. I always feel like I'm in a hurry to make a great shot, only to feel like I have rushed the tempo. Wish me luck, to incorporate this in my game. Thank you!

  15. Similar advice to The Upbeat Golfer and his "Rushing Swings? How to Teach Your Brain to Stop It" . . . but it certainly bears repeating because us golfers can be thick-skulled, slow learners LOL. Thank you as always Alex!!
