GAPPING the FAIRWAY woods

I take a deep dive into the fairway woods to see which I should carry. What will make the cut? Which should be in your bag? I hope you enjoy!

hey guys Mr short hitter here you don’t look like a short hitter to me I love my Highwood we’ve been through so much together and the three-wood is a club that is pretty difficult to hit off the Fairway I really need to get a fourwood I can hit the three wood but gosh darn it it’s not my favorite Club to hit with a Highwood starting out 197 yards 189 yards 189 I cut that one 180 Ys 196 yard I’ll go to a seven wood 189 yards so I don’t think we’re going to get any more out of this than the Highwood I’ve always said I think those two clubs are interchangeable if I wanted to hit something even higher than the Highwood I would probably go to the seven wood but the Highwood is a pretty good combination between the two between a fairywood and a hybrid I was hit really good 199 yards that’s a nice high one 193 yard 193 [Music] though we hooked that one2 yard okay so let’s go to a five wood 96 yards 196 little lower launch H really good 204 yards [Music] 196 [Music] yards 200 one yards 193 yards okay I’m liking the launch of this fivewood let’s hit some three Woods the 3-wood gives us the same carry of the fivewood with a lower launch we will get a little further out because we’re not really trying to to hold the green when I get a 3-wood in my hand 2002 y top swing speed is probably about 93 with the driver maximum carry 215 to 220 so 200 yard carry there so if we can get something we could carry 208 or so that would be great let’s look at the total total 226 that would be a pretty firm Fairway 210 yard stre wood starting to get a little uh starting to motor out there a little bit 96 yards that was weird 8° launch 2 yard I’ve got a Target up there that’s 202 from where I’m standing which is my golf bag hopefully I don’t fly it into it but I’m I’m going to aim at that I’ll hit a few with the Highwood and then a few with the fivewood and a few with the three-wood and just go up there and make sure that these balls are carrying where I think they’re carrying [Music] that one’s a little little [Music] push okay that one is all right that’s pretty good that might be the reason not to hit the 3-wood right there so guys I think for me the decision has been made until I can get a Forwood it would be really nice if this fivewood could stay in the bag but first I want to hit this shot from exactly 200 yard to an elevated green and just make sure that I’m going to get a little more out of the fivewood than the Highwood and we hit one just left of the flag definitely felt like it had more pop to it both clubs when I hit them really well I was hitting them pretty much pin High there out to 200 yards not really sure where they landed but one thing I will say the shortest fivewood was right here which is only 5 yards or so short of the flag and the shortest Highwoods were back here about 14 yards short of the flag all right guys so what I found is the three-wood having a lot less Loft just made it really difficult to strike the ball consistently if I was hitting off a t or if the ball was sitting up in the first cut of rough then the three wood probably be a better option or if I had a 40 yard wide Fairway to run it up in however most of the time I’m hitting three-wood I’m trying to run it between bunkers or either carry a bunker to hit a green and it’s just not going to work just not consistent enough to do do that giving up four yards of carry I’m also going to give up a little bit of roll but the consistency of the fivewood is going to be a lot better ultimately I will get a fourwood in my bag and ultimately I will do a what’s in the bag for 20124 after I decide what my complete set is going to be because as of now I’m really thinking about changing all my equipment including my ball so expect some videos coming up real soon on some of those test reviews and also ball comparisons so if you miss my video on the six iron ver six hybrid click the video to my right and if you like the video like comment subscribe until next time Mr short hitter out need to part my way in got to hit more greens

  1. I am seeing Sub 70 in your future! Great video!!! Thank you! Hywood I am 185 – 190 yard carry. 5 Wood is 200 yard carry. Both are accurate and I am happy with both. 3Wood is 200 – 215 yards and right. A few times topped. Unreliable. Have a 4 wood for tight fairway courses. 210-215 yard carry and reliable. I love this club but is just one extra club not used that often. 3Wood, no thank you. I can hit a driver, 4W, 5W and Hywood, no problem. 3W, I cannot hit consistently. All me, not the club. We align MSH! Cheers!

  2. Hi MSH! I’ve struggled with 3w carry. I just bought Titleist TSi HL 3w (16.5) and because it’s adjustable lofted up to 17.25 so it’s a 4w. Will give it first go this week

  3. Nice comparison. Definitely the 5 wood, by the looks of the flight and needs. I see Takomo in your future.😊 I think you hit their driver well too

  4. I finally found my perfect gapping for me Stealth 2 HD 9 degree driver (240 – 250 yards) BRNR Mini Driver Copper 13.5 degrees (210-230) Hywood +3 17 degrees (200-210 ) Qi10 Max 7 wood 22 degrees ( 190-200 ) I am 59 years old and an 8 handicap i am not a long hitter anymore but i am pretty straight and high flights great video Mr. Short hitter
can relate be well and be safe cheers from Canada

  5. I've noticed across the internet and talking with a few golfers that many are taking the 3 wood out of their bags. Most people just don't hit it consistently. I carry one and hit it great more often than not, but the bad shots are really bad. Much more consistent with my old original Snake Eyes Quickstrike hybrid 5 wood with the matching shaft. May ditch the 3 this season. Good video.

  6. I think the 3-wood is only for really good golfers with high club speed. I'm a decent golfer with a lower club speed. On two different occasions I compared my 3-wood to my 5-wood on the driving range. Both times, after hitting about 10 balls each, I discovered they went about the same distance, but the 3-wood was all over the place and the 5-wood was fairly consistent. This was about 5 years ago and the 3-wood has been gathering dust at home since then.

  7. I was curious about a ball review I recently bought some snake eyes golf balls from rock bottom and wow I'm surprised the soft distance was pretty sweet 14.99 12 balls would you do review

  8. Thanks, I am really struggling with long irons vs. hybrids vs fairway woods. Cannot make up my mind. I may have to find a hitting bay somewhere and test out.

  9. I moved on from 3 wood unless I have to chase something on firmer courses. My 5 wood does all I need it too. Including off the tee as it is 200-210. Enough on many holes. Most people if they lack speed to increase launch should opt for more club loft.

  10. I carry a 3 (15) and 5 (19) wood in my bag. I’m more consistent, accurate, and longer with the 5 than the 3 from a tee and the fairway . I think the 3 wood is going to stay at home from now on.

  11. Have you tried the callaway apex utility woods? They also seem to fit within the fairway wood and hybrid gap. Seems like a club that you should test!

  12. I have not had good results with many of the 3 woods I've had in my bag But my 7 wood and my 5 wood work well for my game , Thanks .

  13. I use a 5w and a 4h that I can hit well. I only use a 3w off the tee if I struggle with driver. Never could hit it off the deck.

  14. My stock yardages:
    Driver: 270
    3 wood: 250
    5 wood: 235
    4 hybrid: 215
    5 iron: 195
If I played a 7 wood it would replace my hybrid. Guess I could hit a couple and see which one is more consistent

  15. You nailed it. 3 wood is great if you can hit it consistently, which I can't. Dropped it for a 5 wood and all is fine. Played a 4 wood for a while and it was slightly longer than the 5 but again not as consistent. Set up on the long end of the bag is driver, 5 wood, 7 wood, 4 hybrid. Keep the videos coming.

  16. As a golfer in my early 50’s I used to swing the old 90’s drivers 120 mph. I miss the small heads of yesterday! I am considering a Brnr mini because I hate the large heads. I swing up on the too much plus the longer shafts get me too!

  17. I just purchased the Takomo 3/5/7 woods and love them so far. I also love that all 3 are adjustable +- 2 degrees so you can fine tune them to your game/gap needs.

For me at stock neutral settings I’m getting 240y/225y/210y respectively.

I can hit the 7w way better than my 4/5 irons
