we Ruled The Cricket World now the rues seems coming welcome to the Caribbean Cricket podcast your One-Stop shop for all things West Indies cricket by the fans for the fans [Music] yes yes yes ladies and gentlemen welcome back to another edition of the Caribbean Cricket podcast I’m won half of the Caribbean Cricket podcast M St Patrick H and with me as EA is my partner in crime salki nag lenden santoki how you doing yeah Mash all good and I know there’ll be a lot of people looking forward to this video dropping obviously big day today in West Indies cricket we announced the 15 man squad who will be leading the line at the home T20 World Cup starting next month and as always there’s a lot of talking points Mash but before we get into the squad selections got a shout out obviously first thing first like comment subscribe we’re on the road to 9,000 subscribers on YouTube so follow the movement spread the word about the Caribbean Cricket podcast first things first match I got to give Cricket West Indies a bit uh some credit because um whilst most nations in the world announced it sort of on social media their squads Cricket West Indies done a big press conference today they dropped a promo video Desmond Haynes Darren Sammy were there in attendance in Barbados they talked about you know the legacy of that of this World Cup how big it is a home World Cup so it felt like a big event with this announcement and um without further Ado M should we get into the 15 players that were selected indeed let’s bring him up on the screen so the 15 that we’ve got robman Powell Captain alari Joseph Vice Captain I didn’t even know aari was Vice Captain I don’t know where that came from Johnson Charles Roston Chase shimron hetm Jas holder Shay H Akil Hussein Shamar Joseph Brandon King gesh MTI Nicholas puran Andre Russell sherane Rutherford and Romario Shepard where do we even start santoki let’s let’s get into the I guess so the two omissions from the last series against Australia oane Thomas and Carl Mayers the two additions you know going to get the headlines Shamar Joseph has been hurtled into the side for the World Cup and Shimon hetm the icon you know he’s been playing for Rajasthan Wars finishing for Rajasthan wars in the IPL he gets a recall into the side so Mash I guess it’s only right we just talk about those sort of movements so let’s talk about the inclusions Shamar Joseph you know we’ve mentioned it on on previous episodes we talked about you know if he has a good IPL he could make it into the World Cup squad he’s played one game for the lock now super Giants he’s been thrown into the into the World Cup squad he’s only played three T20 matches in his career he’s not taken a wicket in T20 cricket what’s your what’s your initial take on seeing Shamar Joseph in this squad so I’m going to try and be completely balanced and nuanced about this I think a as a West Indian fan base and I’m talking to all the people watching this show and all the people who love to get in the comments and and tell us you know this and you know that this is an attempt to just look at it from both sides of the coin here a couple of weeks ago Darren Sammi said in the press conference I think it was I can’t remember what that press conference was about um but it was in Barbados and he said at a press conference one of the uh Caribbean journalists asked him about Shamar Joseph and he said you know it’s important to not get carried away by hype we need to see how players perform that was before Shamar Joseph had even played a game in IPL since that comment about two and a half weeks ago three weeks ago Shamar Joseph as you said sentoki has played game and one game only this feels like a hype pick santoki because regardless of people try there there will be people out there who try to justify this pick and say yeah it makes sense because of this it makes sense because of that and I’m not saying it won’t come off that people need to understand s I’m not saying it won’t come off for all you and I know this could be one of the most inspired picks of all time but where I draw the line santoki is people trying to justify the pick as if it makes logical sense there is no logic behind this and I all I would implore of people is to accept that there’s no logic behind the pick right because he hasn’t got any T20 experience he’s got no T20 wickets of course yes we saw what he did in Australia we know that he’s got Express Pace we know that some people are going to say well that’s an X Factor which apart from alzari Joseph no one else can really really um bring the squad but there’s a difference between this Soki when shmar Joseph got called up to the West Indies test side that was off the back of taking wickets in domestic Cricket for Guyana and then going to South Africa and taking wickets for West Indies a he didn’t turn up in the west west Indies test team by Magic there was there was some uh there was a context there was some background golf there was some stats to there was some stats to go off there was performances to go off if everybody if everybody is being truthful about this pick they would say he has come in on a pure hype and prayer this is a hell Mar pass we are just hoping this comes off because of what he did in Australia if he didn’t do what he did in Australia there’d be no way he’d be in this conversation at all right um so I just want people to accept that this is a complete and utter gamble no more no less because there’s no rational justification for it yeah is this is a pure Vibes decision um they’ve gone with Shamar Joseph to build on that momentum um from the test series it’s a completely different format but as you said Mash we’re not here to say oh it’s shamal Joseph is definitely GNA fail at this world cup like you said for all we know he could be the key that kind of gets West Indies into the later stages so it could be an inspired move however as you said we can’t go on any evidence or analytics or anything this is basically we just have to take it at face value it’s a it’s a h pick as you said we’ve gone for Shamar joose if he’s the star of the moment the Uproar if he wasn’t picked would be chaotic I think um so they’ve taken the gamble Desmond Haynes and Dam Samy you know they said you know what we’ll take this gamble it’s a highrisk gamble but it’s a home World Cup we got to take that chance the one thing I will say is OED McCoy not being in the squad is a is a surprise to me because OED McCoy obviously he’s had Fitness issues he’s played in the pool he’s played the all the games I think so far he’s he’s performed well we know what oen McCoy can do especially in the power play so to have Obed McCoy fit and not in the squad makes the Shamar Jose pick even more of a gamball because you’ve put Shamar Joseph in and what you referenced there about the test side is completely correct he he was coming off performances in Red Bull Cricket but it was also because we had a lack of bowling options in this scenario he’s leaped ahead of OED McCoy obviously Shamar Joseph has got more Pace but OED McCoy missing out is a big gamble not to pick him in this squad as well because you know what he can do in theam T20 format so there’s two caveats to it but as you said mash it could very well pay off we just have to as you said be honest and say we can’t try and justify I’ve seen on social media a few comments you know talking about the justification and why he was picked and all these kind of things um we just have to say it’s a risk and you know it could pay off it could not that’s what you do with risks um so it is what it is with Shamar Joseph hopefully he can perform well in T2 Cricket but there’s no justification or evidence to suggest what his form will be like in the format so I raised this in a group chat of mine because I’m fairly certain some of those people in the group chat will be watching this video we do and one of the points that was raised as a counter when I said that I think I raised the point that we’ve just discussed now that Shamar is is basically a hell Mary it’s a gamble right they said well aled McCoy because I’m now going off your aled McCoy point I’m surprised aled McCoy is not in the squad I would have had him in a heartbeat we knew that Darren Sammy said there was two spaces up for grabs I just assumed one would go to aled McCoy for a start Alber McCoy offers something that none of the other Pacers bring he left arm left arm seam it’s a different angle plus aled McCoy is the only bowler in the region that best replicates what we had with Darren Bravo and ability to bowl off Cutters and ability to blow Bowl um disguised slower balls an ability to bowl the quicker one he’s got the most variations out of everybody probably in the Caribbean and more importantly Soki Obed can bowl in the power play he can bowl in the middle and he can bowl at the death and we’ve seen him do it for the West Indies so now his fit again and performing in the pool is it just doesn’t make sense to me why you wouldn’t take him right in terms of an alternative um and also s because Bowlings our weakness we know what the Batters can do but we there are huge question marks about our bowling’s ability to take wickets up front and um defend anything lower than 20 at the death right so anyway somebody said to me if you want McCoy in the squad he’s not in competition with Shamar Joseph he’s in competition with Jason holder and holder should have come out for for Obed McCoy I don’t know where I stand on that argument because I think holder I think holder potentially plays a different role to what Alber McCoy’s role is aled McCoy if is’s in that Squad and team is bowling his four overs uh Shamar Joseph is if he’s in that Squad and team is bowling his four overs Jason holder isn’t just an out andout bowler he’s not necessarily going to bowl all four he might do but he’s not necessarily going to bowl all four and also if you look at that Squad of Bowlers now and if you look at our seamers you got Dre ramario Shar alzari and probably Jason right irrespective of who you think is good or bad if you’re ask if you’re asking me who can bowl different kinds of deliveries in this format of cricket it Jason’s probably above a few of them if you see if you see where I’m coming from so I don’t know where I buy this argument that if Obed was in it should be holder that comes out what do you think about that s yeah no I don’t I don’t think there a like for like comparison I think it was between Shamar Joseph and Obed McCoy if you confirming it I think as you said hold offers the variations and importantly can contribute with the bat as well so I don’t think it would ever be down to Obed McCoy or Jason hold I just think it was Shamar and um Obed so yeah oane Thomas we knew he wasn’t going to make the squad surely MH um OED McCoy’s got to go as as a reserve I know Desmond Hayne said they’re going to finalize that in a few weeks surely you’ve got had Obed MC is the number one Reserve just because as you said I’m surprised he’s not in this squad but that just goes to show what a gamble it is taking Shamar Joseph in here and the other Omission Carl Mayers obviously Mash on your Monday um phone in show you kind of suggested that you know you you thought at this point hetm would probably get the nod ahead of most like Mayors it’s gone that way Desmond Haynes in the press conference today said they just felt having a finisher was more valuable than having someone at the top order o to open I’m a bit conflicted on that one because I think when we’ve got the likes of Shepard and Russell we’re kind of we’ve got the we’ve got the finishers in the side if you’re looking at openers for the past year it’s been a battle between Brandon King Johnson Charles and Carl Mayers now you’ve taken Mayers out of the equation unless you’re going for a radical change up you’re essentially banking on Johnson Charles and abandon King to be those consistent openers in the World Cup yes this was another thing that that came up in the in the uncle’s group chat right first things first I don’t buy the argument they’ve given about hetm I think it’s [ __ ] um because santoki I’m going to give the the following players are all finishers in our Squad rman Powell is a finisher chaane Rutherford is a finisher Andre Russell is a finisher ramario Shepard is a finisher we already have four so why would you go in a press conference and say we just felt we needed another finisher bro what are you talking about what do you mean we’ve already got four what is shimron added and that doesn’t mean I don’t think shimron should be in the squad I think we’ve got to be realistic sanog if we’re talking about the 15 best short format cricketers in the Caribbean shim Ron’s obviously in the top 15 but is shimon’s role needed in this world cup squad arguably santoki no because the whole point was when we played England he got the Run he got the run against India he got the run against England he didn’t perform they brought Rutherford in and Rutherford performed so Rutherford has leap frogged him right so what are we saying R hetm is not taking Rutherford’s spot Rutherford’s starting this World Cup right he’s not taking Dre’s spot obviously and he’s not taking ramario spot because obviously Romario is there to Bowl as well so are we saying that hetm is basically a bench Rider just in case somebody gets injured which is fine but don’t tell me he’s there to boost our finishing like we we we we’re not we’re not suffering for lack of finishers at at this point in time when you take mayor out however your b as you said Sant you’re basically saying it’s Johnson Charles or bust now someone said to me ah you can afford to take mayor out for hetm because Shay hope is there and he can open but the whole rationale of putting hope in the team was to be the guy who could come in one drop and essentially play the Marlon Samuel’s role right essentially kind of anchor and then accelerate later on play the middle overs so on and so forth so are we saying santoki that if king or Charles gets injured we’re just moving hope to open and say so then what there’s there there doesn’t seem a lot of proper Sound Logic in this yeah and when you add in the fact that Brandon King’s currently injured he didn’t go to neple so you’re taking it you get you’re taking another Risk by banking on him and Johnson Charles to open mayor obviously as well what he can contribute with the ball maybe one or two overs here and there as well is handy I just think if you’re going with that option of moving hope up to open you’re putting pressure on because Hope’s not gonna score fast in the power play and let’s say he stays in after eight overs it might be 58 for nothing hope hope there at the crease you’re putting pressure then on the middle order to come in and just bang score runs I think with the team they we’ve got and our setup and what worked well last year is the team has the batting Firepower but you’ll need overs to hit that in I think if you want to set Pace you can’t start with hope as an opener I don’t think he’s going to set the pace um and the Rhythm for the rest of the Innings and definitely with our bowling resources this is a side that’s going to have to post big totals to get the wins um so I don’t think Hope’s a viable alternative to have as open eyes you said he’s sort of the guy that glues it the Maron Samuels well later down so the fact that we are relying on Johnson Charles and Brandon King is big call from Haynes and Sammy you know because open has been a problem now for a while and rather than trying to add depth they’ve taken out Carl Mayers obviously the plan a I’m imagining would have been to get Evan Lewis back in the side the fact they called him for the nepool side him not going to np’s pH as spanner in the works they’ve decided not to back Carl Mayers so Johnson Charles and Brandon King you know they’re gonna have to deal with um being the openers and not having also as well they haven’t got you haven’t got the pressure of somebody on taking your spot for the past year it’s been a casee of we have to perform or Mays is going to get in or King is going to get back in you’ve kind of taken away that pressure as well so that’s that’s a very interesting decision and as you said it contradicts what said said in the press conference because why do we need a finisher when we’ve got so much depth surely it would have been more viable to take a proven opener into this West Indies side so again another big call from Desmond Haynes and Darren Sammy there Mash I’m going to defend them slightly if this is their logic and I I bet this wasn’t their logic but they’re going to claim now they’ll watch this and then say yeah this was our logic right this only makes sense to me so let’s just say argument sat and toi we get out the first group so we play Uganda Papa guini New Zealand and Afghanistan now let’s just say Johnson Charles or Brandon King fails in all four games in that first group stage but we make it through due to the depth of batting that we’ve got you get now to the Super Eight you’ve had one of your openers fail all of the games or or three out of the four in the first round who replaces them now the argument goes based on who’s left in the squad you move Shay hope to open which then leaves a spot at three which would probably be filled by Roston Chase I guess which then allows you to play a sixth bowler that’s the only thing that I could see is the rationale here but hear me out Soki this is a controversial part now this is when people get vexed this is my theory that I’m working on this is a home world cup with a lot of people around the Caribbean not not necessarily us to a lot of people around the Caribbean hyped uh selling themselves dreams that we’re going to win the World Cup right cool cool if we do we do if we don’t we don’t right how much of picking hetm was a PR pick hear me out santoki if they didn’t pick hetm the narrative and media Fury would just be going on and on and on and on because of how polarizing hetm is across the region if they don’t if they didn’t pick him it drives the media narrative all the way through to the World Cup you should have picked he meire you should have picked he why didn’t you pick he meire why is he meire not in the squad he me’s one of the best 15 in the in the Caribbean how could he not be in this squad where’s hm where’s hm any defeat in the World Cup where’s hetm why wasn’t hetm picked is it a do you think it’s a stretch santoki this my the do you think my theory is a stretch that by picking hetm you drown out any possible media noise about who else should have been there and it means you have everybody within the region generally accepting the squad that’s been picked because no one’s going to make too much media noise about aled mcoy he’s not a big enough name for people to to to kind of get furious about so by having hetm in everybody’s just bringing the Good Vibes now and saying yeah let’s rally around the West Indies Etc and there’s no negative media coming back at the team is that stretch or do you think there might be some there might be some uh weight in I think that’s a rational Theory as you said it sort of JNS out the noise takes away the off field pressure now on the squad because as you said no one’s really going to have that many complaints about OB McCoy not being in a squad whereas if hetm because of hm’s profile especially in India there would be massive you know massive uproar across probably across the world not even within the region why isn’t hetm at um at playing for West Indies at the World Cup he’s doing well for rajastan roals as they’re finish so I think as well it kind of silences the arguments about selection dilemas you’ve essentially picked the best squads best players available in the region so I I think that is a credible Theory match and um it will be interesting to see kind of how if they fit hm into the squad how it goes there and it also sort of reflects just how powerful the IPL is because let’s not forget hetm was dropped from the England series didn’t play against Australia didn’t play against Australia now he’s back again what was was the rale yeah his currency is up because of how well what he’s been doing for Rajan ra so essentially what we’re saying now is um the IPL supersedes into National performances basically has to if so what do you think would have happened santoki if mayor had got a look in for whichever team he’s at in IPL like if he if he’d had the same IPL this year that he had last year for um I can’t remember the team now um if they’ played him this year who gets in then do you think Mays would have got in based on IPL recency bias but this this is the thing right because Sammy said um all right we’re going to use the IPL as a as a metric to see who can kind of make a claim for the West Indies Squad which is fair enough ipl’s high quality T20 tournament obviously it’s played along a long period so you can make some evaluation there but then they’ve basically picked Shamar Joseph who’s only played one game and then a lot of fans are saying car Mayers hasn’t played in the IPL that’s why he hasn’t been picked but then Shamar Jo has only played one game so again the IPL metric doesn’t really doesn’t really make any sense and as you said said MH um if mayor had a run in their IPL then who would on recency buyers who would they pick like it’s it’s a very strange thing at the moment I’m more I’m more inclined to believe I don’t think hetm should be in the squad personally um I’m I think not sometimes you have to go beyond the individual and look at the team Dynamic I think mayor has obviously played in the Australia series the England series before that he’s been part of the side for a while um hetm there’s been issues before um I don’t think hetm adds enough value as you said if we had a lack of finishes then he might add the X Factor I don’t think in his current form because he he hasn’t got any recent um experience of playing long innings in T20 Crick he’s come out for six to 10 balls in the IPL so I don’t think it warrants it’s not justified to bring him back at the expense of Mayors but it is what it is they’ve gone with the big headline name and hopefully he he can prove us wrong in the World Cup especially with the first few games being played in gyana won’t have any excuses to miss the flight just got to make sure he’s got gets across that BBE Bridge so listen I’m glad you’ve made that point at the end though because irrespec of whoever’s picked and whatever the reasons are and Son of we’re still rallying we’re still rallying around the team to win regardless whether he is in whether he is not in whether mayor is out or in we’re still rallying around the team regardless but never a do day in West Indies cricket Sant if this world cup doesn’t go well you know people will be cussing about how like so the same people saying now what an inspired pictar Joseph was if it don’t go well it’ll be the same people cing why do we pick a man who only had three t20s to his name to go to the World Cup on on our Twitter handle santeli a few hours before we went live before we recorded this I wrote a tweet and I just want your take on it I wrote a tweet because I said if for the England series Nicholas puran was suddenly selected to be in our test Squad there would be uproar he’s not played enough Red Bull cricket was Nicholas Pur how did he get into an England test Squad what’s the rationale for this he needs to go play some Red Bull games this despite the fact he’s got tons of ODI Internationals and T20 experience averages 40 in Old eyes Etc why do you think there isn’t the same uproar the other way round for Shamar Joseph who has no T20 experience to speak of but people are like yeah that makes sense that that that that pick makes sense what do you think the differences selie I just think you know Cricket’s a game where you know test Cricket seen as the just sort of longer format where you have to earn your stripes to get that test call up I think T20 cricket is still sort of seen as like almost like the junk Cricket so it’s not as much of a gamble so I think that’s primarily and also I think with fast Bowlers there’s always this perception that you know you don’t need to be trained you could just go out there and so the idea is that oh well he bow at PACE he got wickets at the gabar surely can do it in a World Cup in T20 cricket kind of thing whereas Nicholas poran the argument is like oh he has to he has to put the hours in first class Cricket play in front of or five people in Providence to to get that call up and earn the cap in the name of Frank W and clyve Lloyd and everyone so it’s just I think it’s just perceptions of the format but Mas that’s also a good point because the gamble also affects Shamar Joseph in that he’s basically the MVP going into this England test series by but if he wasn’t in this T20 World Cup squad he could get a county contract or he could hone up in his Red Bull skills by picking him in his world cup squad not only has he has to perform for the World Cup but you’re taking away what practice he had for the Red Bull series because let’s imagine we get to the final you know Des man hay said in the press conference he believes West Indies are going to win it so let’s say this happens you get to the final we’re playing England in the test what eight nine days later so Shamar Joseph Shamar Joseph if he plays in that final within a week he suddenly got to go to Lords and repeat his gab heroics U the same time so you’re kind of we we sacrificed the whole England series for the cups so we basically the one thing the one thing Shamar Joseph had shown he was good at taking test wickets we basically sacrificed that and thrown him into a T20 World Cup because there a home World Cup and we’ve hit the panic button so again it just shows to show what a big gamble it is because no matter how much of a superstar Shamar Joseph is he’s going to be cooked by the time we get to that England tour um in the summer and then people are going to have expectations for him to repeat the Gaba heroics in England it’s just not feasible I mean he could prove me wrong again but we’re not setting up the best environment for him to perform across all format so is a massive gamble once again whereas on the flip side someone like OED McCoy is a T20 specialist so then you kind of got weigh that up as well listen I’ll just end by saying this to to again to slightly defend Samy Sammy said three four weeks ago West Indies needs they need a power play bowler I assume that they are gambling that Shamar Joseph can be that guy what that doesn’t explain to me santoki is he also said we need somebody at the death I I mean I don’t I can just about understand how you can say yeah Shamar Joseph is our is now going to be a power play bowler and maybe a couple overs outside in the middle right I am concerned Soki when I look at this squad I just want this is the final thing we’ll just discuss when you look at this squad santoki and you look at overs 18 19 and 20 who in that Squad fills you with confidence that we could defend let’s just say so that’s 18 balls who if we needed to defend 50 runs in 18 balls who you given the last three overs to with confidence that they’re going to defend them if it’s if it’s Uganda and a poent stadium have to give it to moti and have to just pray moti can deliver if we’re talking if we’re talking against you know a full member Nation on a fter pitch there’s not much confidence we’re just going to have to hope Shamar Joseph can come up with the goods otherwise what we doing throwing it to Russell and hoping Russell can come up with the goods basically so I that’s that’s so I looked it I was racking my brain today going who’s bowling our last three and in the end I was like shepher Joseph Russell argument sake the problem I’m not saying they couldn’t defend something santoki my issue is I think they defend something one in every three or four games that there’s just not the level of consistency to suggest that they could defend a tight game on a on a regular enough basis which is again just to kind of finish why I find it so bizarre that they didn’t pick Obed because Alber at least has a history for of playing with us at bowling well at the death so we’ve effectively said let’s go for the gamble on Shamar to get power play wickets rather than go for the solidity of olded or of olded knowing that he can help tighten us up at the back end as well as maybe getting some wickets in the power play so it’s it’s an interesting gamble they’ve gone for yeah I think the the fact you said the solidity of OB McCoy spot and I think there’s certain Power Play Death bow overs um Bowlers who you know regardless of the match situation we know that they’re going to bowl tight generally in most games they they’ll know what they did do I think with shepher and r Rell you have Bowlers in a situation where if the game’s getting out of hand let’s say we’re playing England and the last two three overs have gone for 35 40 runs Shepard’s G to take licks most likely he gets swept up in the emotion of the game as well so I wouldn’t say they’re Bankers as you said probably one in four games they probably perform well but they haven’t got that consistency over Oben McCoy so again it’s it’s it’s a highrisk one but as with all this match there could be a high payoff you know Shamar Joseph could come off Russell and Shepard they all could come off as a bowling unit so we’ll have to see how it goes I thought it was interesting just a final point that um Sammy mentioned Fabian Allen will be playing for West Indies in the South Africa series I don’t know if that was a hint that he could be a possible kind of replacement um a late replacement because the deadline the actual deadline is May the 25th but that was mentioned and he did say he’s Brandon King is set for Recovery to play in that South Africa series as well but as we said on social media the final deadline to make any changes this is a provisional Squad is May 25th so we could see some changes there could be it’s very unlikely unless there’s an injury but the final Squad will be named in about three and a half weeks I’ll just let you know as well that I have been told although I’m waiting for for official confirmation that Evan Lewis will be part of the training camp in Antiga so I’m going to say watch this space um because they reached out to Evan Lewis to go to napole so clearly he’s in he’s on their radar in some shape or form so let’s watch this space you this match if let’s say they go training camp in Antiga Evan Lewis is hitting sixes to baruda yeah what are you who who’s Evan Lewis coming in for who takes the who takes the drop hm’s got to go home oh no if you wanted the media to go mad Soki that would send everybody in the in the Caribbean into overdrive something like that happened can you imagine first press conference Evan Lewis is going yo listen you know what yeah I finished the renovation work on my house already went Indies now that twoyear Hiatus since Desmond Hayne said he couldn’t play because he was doing off his house you know so but yeah as you said never a do day in West Indies cricket you know we’re not gonna go What’s happen but Mash final word before I hand over to you we always say you know West Indies cricket is everything is it’s the biggest thing for us this weekend you know leg viewers will notice you’ve got a certain football kit in your background you’ve got the Bley tracksuit is this fair to say Obviously for those who don’t know Mash well 25 years in the game supporting Bromley Bromley FC in the fifth division currently in the fifth division of English football this Sunday they play a playoff game to get into the English football league system for the first time in their history Mash sum up how big a weekend in this how are you feeling excited nervous what’s going on at the moment boy biggest game ever in our history you know this is the biggest game of My Life um I don’t know santeli do you know what it hasn’t really sunk home it hasn’t until I get to Wembley on Sunday and they walk out on the pitch that’s when it’ll probably sink in that we could be 90 minutes away from a first ever promotion to the English football league which is crazy it’s crazy santoki um I haven’t yet thought how I react if we don’t do it though there could be real tears in my eyes tears one game away from me you might see me have to take a Hiatus from Caribbean Cricket podcast to get over to get over it man said this santoki and the people was champ for the foreseeable future but for those but for those who care um what is it I think it’s it’s a 3:00 kickoff on Sunday on TNT Sports in the UK so you can watch if you want uh versus Su H Mo’s promo uh playoff promotion final so those want to watch it it is on TV and you’ll see me on Monday either happy or in absolute if you thought the 1. Podcast Obid Mcoy became the proverbial sacrificial lamb in the so-called government influence in cricket Westindies. When the rubber hits the walll. It appearscas though the Barbasos PM got her boy in instead of Mc Coy. It is simple the truth. Mia Motley got her man in. It was a strait shootout between Mc Coy and Holder. This is coming from confidential sources. I hope that in the interest of CWi it does backfire. This action is a repetitive o an act which happened years ago between Charlie Griffith and a Vincentians cricket the name somewhat evades me at the moment. However, the narrative was told by Gary Sobers in which instructions were given to hit every ball that was bowled by the Vincentians for 6 so that Griffith would have been selected.

  2. I don't really understand why is the discussion is about McCoy there are some players that cricket has gone pass or they have allowed they career to remain stagnant McCoy struggling to make it to the crease , he can't field he is a liability in the field , that miss chance that run taken that could have kept the inform batter off strike or a run out these men are not ready for this level ,

  3. Darren bravo.. lol. Dwyane bravo.. do McCoy take wickets in powerplay..? If you guys sit, watch cricket you see why they pick him..

  4. Thinking outside the box, if one of the openers is to get injured or something I’d like to see sherfane opening and trying to make use of the PP Ik he’s more valuable as a finisher but we also have Dre, sheppy down there and hetty hypothetically

  5. agree with the shemar hype pick… but maybe the selectors have seen something we havent and that in it self is the reason for the gamble…lets just hope it pays off

  6. if Jake Fraser McGurk wasn't picked despite of his IPL showing, why is Shamar being picked when he performed well in a different format, and wasn't good in the one outing in th IPL ?

  7. Hetmyer and Shai Hope as openers or hetmyer and Johnson Charles, if King plays against south africa and score runs then he can return as opener, I think hetmyer is a wasted and pressured talent, he started as a opener and there are a lot of other finishers in the team. Alzarri as Vice captain is rubbish he is also bowling rubbish, I would have picked obed over him. Kyle Mayers on the bench in the IPL is not helping his case.

  8. Think the boys were bit OTT. You'd think Obed McCoy was the second coming of Wasim Akram.

The reasoning for Shamar is pretty obvious for me. The trend in T20 cricket is moving away from the medium pacer.
How many other teams are selecting three medium pacers (holder, Romario snd Obed)? The other two are alrounders so clear why McCoy misses out. I'd put it this way, would opposition batsmen prefer facing McCoy or Shamar? For me the answer is pretty obvious.

  9. Several factors are necessary
successful death overs: the tactics of the captain , including field placement( if pace is involved, a long stop, fine leg and third man should be in place): senior players should be advising the bowler and the bowling must be aggressive ( body blows and Yorkers!

  10. Ben stokes is England’s best bowler and this is why he was charged with bowling that critical last over against Braithwaite!

  11. I am looking forward to meeting these two knowledgeable hosts at the West Indies warmup match during the test tour to England. Will buy your merchandise!

  12. To be honest we should have gone with McCoy over holder for variety…… too many quote on quote right arm medium pace “ all rounders” in our team …… we really didn’t NEED holder seeing it’s only 15 players and you need a left arm Fast bowler to change the angle to right handlers……. McCoy is a big miss ………. .. Mayers not so much cause hope or HETMASTER can open for us if Charles do a madness in the World Cup 😂💯🤣

  13. Mr Machel….I agree its a gamble but to me Shemar Joseph has some serious gift that if played to his present status could show some serious gain for West Indies… Mc Coy as seen against Nepal does not fill me with confidence. If Mc Coy was to be include for me it would be Shepherd…as stated previously Roston Chase should not have been chosen.

  14. Obed should have made it in shemar/roston's place…roston only needed for reserves if left arm spin twins get injured. Hetty is a waste pick if he is picked as a finisher with all those we have here…we needed myers there esp to give left right combo. Myers probably should have pulled off the ipl if he wasn't being given playing xi time and tried for his pick by playing with WIA. Selectors seem to pick in order to not face critic of public if team lose and not have the popular public picks like hetty and shemar in the squad. And are we sure that Alzarri pick in xi so sure to name him VC? If his present form doesn't improve he may well have to go back to the bench.

  15. Hey guys, nice analysis!

My 2 cents regarding the inclusion of Shamar Joseph. Look, I hear you on his complete lack of T20 experience. However, he possesses a lot of quality attributes which aren’t found commonly among bowlers. Express pace, ability to seam the ball and deliver searing yorkers – all perfectly suited to T20 Cricket. I liken it to Jofra Archer’s inclusion in England’s 2019 ODI WC squad where he basically made his international ODI debut just before the WC started and had only some domestic List A experience. Look how that turned out!

And there is the additional factor of a home WC, as u guys noted. So yeah, im perfectly happy with his inclusion. Don’t have to bowl him every game, rest and rotate him around to keep him fresh for the Test Series.

I do agree that leaving out McCoy was a bad decision. I personally would have included Shamar in place of Shepherd. Yes he’s playing IPL and had a couple of decent cameos but for me, it wasn’t enough to warrant inclusion.

  17. We always saying that we need to take chance on youngsters like the other teams. So I'm all for trying I doubt he will start but I hope he grab his chance when he gets it.

  18. The thing is Haynes selected Paul as a "potential match winner" in Zimbabwe WC qualifiers. We all know how that turned out.

He selected Yannick for the t20 WC. He got injured. He is now not even in line for selection.

  19. Santokie dropped a question to end the show.
But Lewis is what has caused a major headache. Instead of Narine they should have been chasing Lewis. He is the absolute best. An avg of 30 in t20i and t20 is world class.

  21. Is there any logic behind T20 game? In one over the game can turn on its head. So give the guy Joseph a break just like he got in the test.

  22. I think Shamar will.go for runs BUT I do not really oppose him per say. His lack of EXPERIENCE is his liability.

Mayers should be in instead of Hetmeyer. Hetmeyer has been a failure for WI for some time now.
