Jason Day Making Several Changes to His WITB for 2024

After the 2023 PGA season, Jason Day became a club free agent, leaving the TaylorMade stable in addition to going to clothes maker Malbon. Jason now is playing PING, TaylorMade, Titleist, and Cleveland clubs. Jason has changed iron sets 4 times that we know of at this time, and it will be interesting to see how his golf bag evolves over the remainder of this season.

so let’s get to talking about this Jason day you know what’s in the bag what triggered my brain to even think about his is so I’m on the T box this week a head cover on a ping driver and I was like oh oh what are we doing you know J day I didn’t realize that he had pretty much gone free agent on everything last year so deal with Nike was up I guess Club deal with Taylor Maid was up so he just out here doing what the heck he wants to do so let me pull up this um completely in in dad level he’s full on dad with the mix bag and and everything huh you know J what works best for me that’s all I can say you know this chipper Club I’ve had in my bag five years they can’t take it out of me they got a pride out of my cold dead hands so just a feature of the bag head cover is on trixon irons flying in or shining in the Sun um so let’s get into it so kind of a backstory before I hit this next slide is that Jason Day Has Changed IRS four times in the last year at least in events that we’ve seen him playing in so a lot of changes and updates let’s let’s hit it so we’re going to go through kind of oldest irons to to where he’s at today so last year in May he was playing the tailor made uh p7 MC’s uh with the KBS C taper 125s uh stiff plus I I didn’t never I never really loved the look of these I mean a lot of players put him in the bag he’s a tailor made staffer at this time so not horribly surprising at all right yeah we uh update goes you know to the player true players iron August 2023 was playing the Taylor Made p7 twws um again same shaft in there of course we’re winding down near the end of his Club deal and you know flips over trying out some new stuff no longer committed to tailor made solo but playing the 760 to me I hate this iron I’ve known one person that bought them it looks like a grill to me in the back um just a not attractive looking Club but I think the notable thing to change here to update here is that he went with a True Temper Dynamic gold um X7 shaft little bit heavier shaft the heaviest shaft that True Temper has available and the most recently um as of this month he’s playing the Shon ZX7 uh MK2 he’s playing the zx5 in his um higher clubs the three and four um but the True Temper Dynamic gold X7 has stayed in the bag so so interesting what do you think about his his uh multiple uh iron changes over this last year I guess you can know I guess you can say it’s liberating for him to be able to just be able to use whatever he wants and then try out some things I mean I don’t I don’t know as a tinkerer I’m excited for him but as yeah he’s a highlevel golf player I think he needs to find something that works for him and and lock it on down like preferably faster get more precise within like whatever your selection is right yeah that part’s concerning yeah now I will say that him just being between two shafts at least he knows what tunnel he’s trying to come out at least he knows what waiting he likes what type of kick he likes lead tape on the clubs always a good sign definitely trying to dial it in almost kind of like I’m almost there once I get these weights down I’m G send this to Srixon try to get me some clubs then I mean you know as long as he has stricken irons in the bag maybe maybe put the Cleveland wedges in there I don’t know I mean we’ll get Brook we’ll get there yeah okay Brooks has the stricken irons but I don’t think unless he changed recently I don’t think he still plays the shrick in woods I think he still big Taylor Made gu as far as the woods go um you’re talking about Brooks yeah Brooks yeah Brooks Brooks has G yeah he’s gotten back into the tailor made um Woods yeah which I’m sure he’s Still rocking the shrix on head cover just to meet his Club deal but Brooks is a whole another animal um the fact that he’s not even rocking the live He’s the owner of his team and he’s not even ra rocking their logo He’s Still rocking straight Nike fit says about Brooks and brand deals um welcome in Bobby so he said I play the original Taylor Made 750s still look sweet feel feel great in Old School yep um i70s personally um 770s is is the darling um of the looks wise of the tailor made lineup right now so this is just a little more info on that shaft uh so moderate Tempo uh low trajectory low spin right so he’s trying to get all of the things in this in this super heavy shaft it’s 133 G like I said earlier the heaviest shaft that True Temper offers at this point in time God bless I know he’s doing some uh some working to get that thing going I think what I’m see from these characteristics is that he’s either he either has a hard time with shots blowing up on him I don’t know if you remember early days of Jason when he was you playing for number one high ball hitter every time so it looks like he’s trying to use equipment to knock that down um that’s what all indications show from from these Club selections and shaft selections yeah so and with his ball too tby still plays at tby you know he ain’t messing up his bridgstone balls he’s not messing up that deal why why you keep jumping ah head in my slides man I’m going get there my fault my man my fault you know I get excited about Bridgestone golf balls man oh so the Ping uh for g430 man it’s becoming the hot club again personal mention let you have it go ahead finally finally bought this thing no but I’m saying like you’re seeing a lot of Pros um play in this club I mean we’ve seen Tony fenale rocking this Club we’ve seen uh Jake knp we’ve seen Alex Fitzpatrick last week who we did his bag this g430 LST is uh is playing in a lot of folks bag right now and he’s got it at 10 degrees uh again with this TPT driver 15 low I have the picture of the shaft coming up but this is like a prototype shaft you’re not going to be able to go get this one off your uh retailers rack anytime soon so here’s that that shaft um I didn’t get a chance to to spend time researching this if I edit this in post I’ll put up some additional info info on it um but definitely a unique shaft that you’re not seeing in in most people’s bag so tinkering is what jday is doing right now for sure oh yeah um so here I didn’t want to give this two two slides so he’s rocking the 15° old original Sim Max 3w at 15° and the stealth 7 wood at 21 um the shaft choice is very interesting to me this uh MIT Mitsubishi Kuro KAG adx um X stiff shaft that’s an old shaft man the technology is not Brand New by any means um this was a hot shaft probably about three to four years ago um any comment here bro me and the kuragi have never gotten along I’ve tried it multiple times I just it’s not I can’t handle it it’s too boardy it’s hard it’s hard it’s it’s it’s hard it’s hard to get a lot of load into this particular Chef um I shouldn’t even say three to four years this actually goes back to when Nike was manufacturing CL FL uh clubs so at least 2015 um so this is almost a 10-year-old sh at this point so interesting choice and he’s consistently rocking it in both of his Woods um and then you know you mentioned Cleveland um you know wedges so he’s got a weird mix in terms of he goes 52 well I think he’s tinkering a lot so he’s got the 56 mentioned twice here so I think he’s jumping stuff in and out of the bag depending on the week but got the sm10 and bag which we said these have not been widely adopted I’ll keep saying that until we’re seeing these replacing the sm9 and eights um and then the Cleveland RTX 6 zip core tour rack I’m playing that in the 56 and the 52 with the same shaft that he’s got in his um his regular irons the True Temper Dynamic gold uh X7 here bro um I don’t know feel like not saying that they’re completely different um because the sm10 I haven’t had it in my hands yet but I feel like they are probably not nearly as spinny as the Cleveland wedges um so probably I don’t know I I’ve always played vogi I tried to go to the Nike engage but vogi is what I know Cleveland is just to to me I feel like it’s always just been way too spinny for anything that I’m trying to do especially as a high ball hitter um not quite a moon baller but you know I try to pretty much TR try to land everything high and lofty um I will say I like the 60 degree um the T Grime I mean but I don’t know why he has it in his bag he’s not a very risty player he’s not a very handsy player that is a low bounce club for like somebody that likes to open it up you know know vary what he’s doing with the club and you know come out of different tunnels and trajectories and stuff so weird to have him I mean commendable but very weird to me that he has that clip in the back you know that’s that’s showing me something about Jason maybe he’s trying to you know living up his game a little bit I don’t know yeah they were talking about at one point um in the coverage I want to say it was Friday or Saturday talking about his chipping technique that you know like you said not handsy at all he’s very much dependent on the rotation of his body um and he’s been using that technique for years and he was in a position where he had a side Hill lie you know grip down near the metal and pretty much it was he was relyant on pretty much like a a straight you know 90 degree turn to to actually chill it was weird and so um the result wasn’t great and it was largely due to his inability to use his hands right at this point he probably doesn’t trust you know going to a handsy shot with the wedges around the green because it’s what he he’s done something completely different for at least the last 10 years in terms of technique so yeah um interesting so good commentary there on the wedges appreciate that feedback the terter made T tailor made spider this is kind of a limited edition itsy bitsy you don’t see this one every day um he had a previous version um this is a a new swap out the other version was was pretty beat up uh right around where the weights go in was was pretty worn it looked like it may have had some uh cart path contact at the very bottom this is a new version tried and true we talked about this a little bit last week um spider Putters becoming super popular um you know bulky Putters are are in right now nobody’s I shouldn’t say nobody that’s not the right word but you just see people getting the help wherever they can get the help and putting is one of those where you know that’s where the money’s made on the PGA tour and most people can hit a driver hit some you know irons and hit greens it’s on the greens and making putts so you see a lot of folks adopting this putter style and lastly like used to mention the Bridgestone tour BX with the new mindset um you know no stamping on it um yeah I was going to say I I haven’t bothered to look at the science around it other than you know the pixs balls are meant to have some visual aid like when you go hit the ball kind of either as a point to to strike the ball I’ll explain levels of concentration essentially is what they’ve tried to explain we had the bridgstone rep come out because you know they’re trying to we have a really great partnership with Titus so we are title is through and through essentially as you’ve seen in our shop um as far as golf balls go um if you want anything else of course we’re GNA have to go out on our own um and just you know kind of buy that wholesale just like literally online and just get it shipped into the shop um but brid Stone came through gave us the whole display gave us some balls to try out and stuff like that um I personally stayed away from the mindset but it’s essentially the Green Dot is the most particular one that is what you’re going to stare at when you’re lining up your ball as far as full swings you want to have the ball positioned where it’s the ring where the green is closest to you the yellow ring is the intermediate Target that’s going to be your start line for that and then your red is your bra generalization Target line that you’re aiming for so again like I said it’s it’s designed to get you to pretty much Zone into one spot now when you’re putting you’re literally just looking for that Green Dot if you want to still use that but they also still have the the tour BX alignment arrows and stuff like that on the opposite side if you just want to line it up with like that typical line but really what it’s trying to do is get you to Envision a shot focus on an intermediate Target going in leading into your main target which is you know somewhere down the Fairway or somewhere on the green headed towards the flag and then as you’re taking the club back you’re focusing on hitting that green that Green Dot that is your final spot to lock in on so you know if that if you have that in you to concentrate that hard and you know what I’m saying think all those things through congrats to you but for me personally that is way too freaking busy and I would have like a brain anism trying to think about all that stuff so well that’s a lot think just you just you explaining it yeah that and you know and you know how they do if you can’t explain it simply did you really understand it that was as rudimentary as I could get right well thanks for taking the time uh Bridgestone ball expert I appreciate itely sweet so that’s Jason that’s uh Jason days what’s in the bag I’m really enjoying doing this series it’s fun just seeing when you have somebody that’s not dedicated to one particular manufacturer what they end up going with it’s the same way that when you see people no longer having a you know a clothing or apparel deal they end up going with foot Joy you you see where the level is right you know water s sets its own level and same thing with golf equipment and you get a lot of stuff out of this channel y’all little business knowledge you know a little technical golf knowledge a little BS in here and there you’re you’re in a well-rounded environment so uh hit that subscribe button hit that
