[Music] good evening everyone and welcome to NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis you’re watching the 2024 division 2 men’s tennis selection show I’m Brendan Gulick it is great to be with you here on ncaa.com march to Orlando officially starts tonight 48 teams from around the country have been selected to compete in this year’s National Tournament over the years there have been a few programs that have absolutely dominated the national scene and while there has been quite a bit more depth in our Championship field the last two decades Barry is the preeminent National Power the Buccaneers have won four consecutive national titles they’ve at least competed in the national championship match in 12 of the last 15 Seasons which teams make a deep tournament run often depends on what the draw looks like we’re ready to unveil exactly how that goes so let’s get to some regions have more teams than others but 16 Conference champions plus 32 at large births will compete across eight regions two teams from each region will advance to the National Finals in Orlando in a couple of weeks as we get into the bracket this is the Atlantic region here in the NCA tournament where you’re uh I should say there are seven teams vying for two spots the first team to be revealed is Fairmont State the four seed this year three three straight NCA Regional births for the Fighting Falcons for the first time in program history should be a good opener because they have played two really good matches this year against the five seed already West Virginia Wesleyan after missing the tournament in 2022 following 13 consecutive appearances the Bobcats are back for a second year in a row top seed in the Atlantic region is red hot coming into the tournament they’ve got a buy because they will play the winner of that 4 five game it’s the Charleston golden eagles they have won 12 matches in a row 7 17-2 on the season top seed for a reason they are the 2024 Mountain East champions fun moment for Vicente Garcia who took the championship clinching point on single scored five when they beat Fairmont State yesterday two seat in the region with hosting duties belongs to Edinburough for the fourth year running Edinburgh men’s tennis King of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference fighting Scots beat up a good Millersville team for nothing Edinburgh came so close to getting to the National meet last year they beat Shaw in the opening round but then slipped up against Fairmont State they’ll begin play against the seven seed Shaw last year Shaw’s first appearance since 2014 and now they’re the seven seed playing Edinburgh for the second year in a row Mercy Hurst tournament bound as the three seed pretty good year for the Lakers who unfortunately didn’t get the chance to play Charleston a couple weeks ago go because that match was cancelled would have given him a really good look at what the top ranked team in the region looked like as tournament play approached good news though they’re really familiar with their first round opponent because they just saw them Millersville rounds out the region as the six seed 12 wins the most in his season for the Marauders since 2010 2011 Dylan TL Zack Pera and freshman Valentine eer guide Millersville this year Mercy Hurst beat Millersville in the regular season but the Marauders won the conference tournament matchup this past weekend okay to the central region now where just four teams are playing for two spots so you only got to win one game here before getting to the Sunshine State wasburn the top seed in the central region they polished off back-to-back Conference titles they won the MIAA Great American Conference shared Auto bid the kabot eclipsed last season’s win total of 18 and completed an undefeated run through both the MIAA and GAC North Division regular season and postseason good luck to Kirby ronning and his team this week made it to Nationals last year but lost to Wayne State in the round of 16 they’ll host a team that was right on the bubble this week Harding is in the Bison where Great American Conference runner up in 2024 they’re led by the number three ranked doubles team in the country of cerer and Theodor zlatar was Baptist staying home for its first match tiger lost to Washburn in the conference tournament they’re clearly one of the best teams in the region this year Alex Blancher and Phil exner have had great year together on doubles Court they’re 24 and8 when they play together exner has also had a great singles career as a Collegiate player so we’ll see if he can make the difference next Tuesday they’ve got conference Fox Southern Arkansas coming to Arkadelphia what a match between the Tigers and mule Riders back in late March OBU won that one 43 this time though there’s a birth in the national tournament in Florida on the line to the east region now where five teams duke it out for two spots first one to be reveal the four seed it’s District of Columbia the Firebirds have some really good wins on their resume including beating Jefferson in the season opener that kind of announced their presence as a regional Contender this year they stumbled a couple times down the stretch twice to St Thomas aquinus but otherwise been playing pretty good tennis the last two months they’ll begin against Southern New Hampshire the Penman any1 runner up this year after falling uh to adelfi they did enough in the conference tournament to convince the committee they should get that final at large bid in the region Jonathan Burling nice season on Singles Court one leading the way 11 and four record as the top singles player of course there’s great Tradition at snhu and now they’ve got another Regional opportunity winner that game is heading to Queens a great weekend for queens in a showdown between the top two teams in the East the kns be Jefferson in the inaugural Central Atlantic Collegiate conference East Coastal Conference Championship games to determine who gets the auto bid for this NCA tournament after taking the doubles point the knights earned the team Victory as the sixth Fifth and fourth singles courts all went to Queens top three courts were great matches those went unfinished all right one of them will be heading to Florida in a couple of weeks and they’ll join the winner of this next game Thomas Jefferson got out of regionals last year but they fell in the round of 16 to U inding so the Rams certainly considered one of the best in the region they had a really good match going against Queen in the conf Queens in the conference final even though the scoreboard may not have quite reflected that prior to that loss the Rams had actually ripped off 16 wins in a row as a team Jefferson’s been really good in singles action this year but nobody is as hot as Mario Antonio he’s won each of his last five matches in a row they’ll play the Adelphi Panthers who Jefferson hasn’t seen since last February Adelphi captured the program’s first ever ne10 title this year of course they beat the Penman for nothing that was a big hurdle for him since their first head-to-head meeting as members in the ne10 and 2012 the Panthers had only ever won two straight against Southern New Hampshire in 2014 and 2015 so this win marched the first ever three-game win streak against against snhu who came in as as last year’s any 10 Tournament champion and had won six of the last 10 League titles cruising to the Midwest where the road to Orlando runs through you inde the Greyhounds the top seat in the Midwest region and they are loaded they won the glvc for a second straight year to give him 13 championships now in program history Clean Sweep through the league with 4 nothing wins over Quincy Southwest Baptist and Drury German National Tom zuch just became the best player in the country he is currently the number one singles player nationally and he pairs with mthu d to form the number two doubles tandem nationally in division 2 in the conference final zuch didn’t lose a single game on Singles Court one Greyhounds have won 10 straight matches as a team they would love to push just a bit further than last season when they finished as a national semifinalist they’ll begin play against the eight seed the Finley Oilers who were Runners up in the great Midwest Athletic Conference Drury hoping to make a deep run this year the 2002 National runner up they’re an NCA tournament regular they would love to make a memorable run Panthers were runner up to U Indi in the conference tournament this past weekend and they’ll have some good mojo going because they’re going to begin play against a team they just beat in the glvc semifinals mckendry the beats are in the five seed they are Regional Bound for a third straight year first time the program’s ever accomplished that slightly less worrisome weight this year for McKenry after they needed the eight seed last year McKenry led by one of the best singles players nationally Leonardo schmidtz Frederico who is 16 and3 this season cheers to the number two seed from Ferris State they claim the gleak tournament title for the fifth time in the last eight years Ferris beat Wayne State for the second time this season avenging a setback to Wayne State in last year’s championship match FSU took the doubles Point by winning two of the three flights claiming both two doubles and three doubles then they took the first two completed singles flights in straight sets to build a three- nothing lead Wayne State then won the next three singles points to tie it at three it was a great team competition match came down to four singles where Bulldog senior Yan capil emerged victorious in a grueling thre set Showdown he beat Denali kyama 64 2675 to win the conference title Ferris has not missed a Regional since 2014 they’ll start at home against conference rival Grand Valley State who made it to the semi-finals of the gak tournament Bulldogs beat the Lakers back in late March but the only one that matters now is coming up next week last two teams in the region three seed is Wayne State Warriors back in the National Tournament again this time with an at large birth 2002 National runnerup led by Daniel Gray he’s considered the fifth best singles player in the country gray and Cedric drenth the top ranked doubles team in the nation this year so expect them to be a tough out in the tournament and they will play against tiffen who did not lose a GMAC game all year for two years running now Tiffin heading to Regionals after a three Pat in the great Midwest Athletic Conference dragons slip past Finley 43 in the GMAC final halfway through our bracket let’s head slightly South here we’ll go to the South Central region just four teams here playing for two spots where it continues to be an impressive start to the division 2 era for Texas Tyler UT Tyler beat Midwestern State for the Lone Star conference title that’s two League titles now in last three tries for the patriots who have won either the regular season or tournament Crown in the Lone Star in each of their first four years of LSC competition Danielle feler this year’s League MVP last year uh excuse me last season they gave Hawaii Pacific a really good match in the round of 16 But ultimately fell 4 to2 Texas Tyler opens up against leic Christian big year for lcu’s Pablo sigura he’s the first ever chapper rol’s men’s tennis player to be named LSC all tournament team Mexican national has had a remarkable freshman season went 2-0 in singles at the LSC championships both win on the number five singles Court first win of the championships for him came in the quarterfinals and it helped l U to a 4-3 win over Cameron that was their first ever LSC championship tournament win then in the semi-final saguro earned a win even though the team fell a little bit short against Midwestern State congratulations coach Jason Spiegel guiding this team to the NCA regionals for the second year in a row they gave Texas Tyler a great match earlier this year and now they get a second shot speaking of Midwestern State they haven’t missed a tournament this decade this is their 20 first appearance in Regional of course they are the lone star runner up this season and they’re going to play Texas per and Basin the Falcons beat both UT Tyler and Love Christian this year but they’ve got to get through Midwestern State if they want to make it to Orlando they’ll get a chance to prove once and for all they should be considered the best team in the region all right to the South Region now 15 national champions from the south since the turn of the century this region is absolutely loaded again this year top seed is worthy group Valdosta State the Blazers won their GSC record 16th conference title they didn’t drop a point throughout the whole tournament they beat montal Lee and Mississippi College in order to take the title 20 and3 now on the season a great Mark Blazers won last year’s conference title to they are 16- 12 all time in the championship match 75- 18 in GSC postseason competition Blazers made a great run last year all the way to the National semis but lost for the first and only time to Barry 10 straight wins starting the tournament for valasta this year they’re hoping for national title for the first time in 13 years they’re looking for National Title by the way number three overall and they do have nonconference wins over both Barry and St Leo again this season we’ll see if that translates into some tournament success they begin with a familiar team it is a rematch from last year’s Regional opener against Spring Hill another Conference Championship for the Badgers who prior to last year had never been in the NCA tournament Badgers win the siac for a second straight season blanking Benedict 4 nothing a couple weeks ago following the win siac Player of the Year Philip Bosman was recognized as the tournament MVP rir Jr from Auburn Alabama fantastic as the singles best player on their team good evening and welcome back to our four-time defending national champions the Barry Buccaneers it’s been another great year in Miami CT off with the AQ birth for winning the Sunshine State conference for a seventh year in a row Bucks have won 15 of the last 17 Conference titles now own a league record 19 tournament championships in all it was also their first championship for acting head coach Fred bonel the Bucks will look to take their 19th Regional Title this week joal ferera and Adam Lynch both ranked among the top 10 singles players in the country bucks also have a couple of top 25 doubles teams too no matter where they’re seeded they are the team to beat in the South the Bucks will start with the Argos from West Florida four-time national champions who last won it all in 2017 St Leo staying home they are ready for the NCA tournament after a great year ITA rankings say they’re number one in the country but they came up short in the SSC tournament against Barry and they also lost to Barry at ITA Indoor national so there’s plenty to prove for the Lions Martin sukal and Vincent teal both top 10 players in the nation the Lions think they have what it takes to win it all here in just a few weeks of course they were ITA Indoor national runner up back in February that’ll entertain Florida Southern who missed the tournament last year but is ready to give it a go in 2024 Chris ful cow their top singles player top 25 in the country he’s 16 and five as a singles player this year he and Mario Goos both First Team all conference for the mocks last two teams in this incredibly deep wide openen region Rollins returning to the field as a three seed so much program experience here 36th tournament appearance Far and Away more than any other program in the region can they lean on that against Embry Riddle in the opener we’ll find out the 13th ranked Eagles five guys on the allconference team led by Belgian national Joshua NES let’s head to the Southeast Regional which is another really heavy hitter lots of terrific young men on these eight teams but only two teams move to Orlando top seed and host for the Flagler Saints they are Peach Belt Conference champs for the first time great year for Flagler and they think things are just getting started Flagler the number two ranked team of the country according to the national rankings 13 straight wins for the Saints who made it to the National quarters last year the battle tested and they know if they can get out of this region they’re going to be well prepared for the national tournament good stability for them at the top but they’re actually 53 and 10 on Singles courts 3 four five and six that’s a big lift for the Saints as they’ve rotated through a few different players on each of those courts breathe easy Mount Olive you’re in the Trojans came up short against Belmont Abbey in conference Carolina’s final they earn an invitation to keep playing as the eight seed and they’re heading to Flagler Lander back in the Regionals again 17 years leading the Bearcats 17 Regional births for head coach Brett Simpson their best recent run came back in 2015 when they made it all the way to the National semis but they’ve had a number of really good teams the last couple decades and of course historically one of the all-time great programs when they won eight national titles in a row back in the 90s what’s it going to take for them to be the best this year they’re going to first have to get past the five seed Windgate back-to-back champions in the South Atlantic conference Junior Frederico spinetta the SA tournament Most Valuable Player he clinched Saturday’s match with his victory at six singles Championship gives the Bulldog seven sack tournament titles all time plus another 11 regular season crowns Bulldogs have won four the last six sa tournament titles collecting 17 total League championships over the last 14 Seasons they have been a regional qualifier every year since 2018 another National powerhouse on the board here it’s Columbus State they’re back and ready to chase a national title after winning it all out in the desert in 2018 cougars have been National runner up three of the last four tournaments in fact they’ve at least been a national semi-finalist every year since 2017 Columbus State came up a little short in the PBC tournament to Flagler Daniel Hammond Justin Wells lead the way for the Cougars they will start this tournament at home against Belmont Abbey York conference Carolina’s champion this year third straight tournament title for the Crusaders sends them surging to the tournament Nicholas k conf conference Carol’s MVP sixth in CA appearance in program history second time that the Abbey has made the tournament in three straight years also did that 1999 2000 and 2001 three seat is North Georgia at a really good start to Regionals last year but came up empty against Columbus State Maybe This Year can be a little different this year’s Nighthawks team seems to be playing substantially better than their 2023 version so they’re going to be a tough out waim benois great season with the Nighthawk nervous weight perhaps finally now over for Augusta the Jaguars are in with an at large bid this season a nice year with wins over Lander that one came in the Peach Belt tournament a good effort against Flagler 2 in the semis back-to-back tournament appearances now for the Jags after previously not qualifying since 2015 and finally we head West four teams playing for two spots top seed belongs to aus Pacific pack West three Pat for the cougars who are a perfect 22-0 as a team this year they beat Hawaii Pacific 4-2 a couple weeks ago to lock down the conference title Elias Amelio Walter named the T tournament’s most outstanding player he won all three of his tournament matches in straight sets also went undefeated alongside Mia valika in doubles Walter is the number 18 ranked singles player in the country zusa Pacific has now won four pwest titles cougars also won the 2018 conference Crown in addition to their current run of three in a row Under head coach Mark borin the program 12 Conference titles between its time in the pack West and the gsac you can exhale over at Point LMA you’re the four seed po LMA didn’t get the result they were looking for against cui in the pack West tournament but they are a really good team turned around and beat MSU Denver and Fresno Pacific for nothing that brought a little momentum for them into the NCA turn tournament that lost to cui came down to a third set tie break sea lions are led by Alexander lehner who was the P West player of the year last year two seed is Hawaii Pacific they are back for the 21st time and boy are they a real threat to be one of the teams to make a Deep Run certainly think they can make it out of the west region played an incredible match against isusa Pacific in the pack West final but ultimately fell a little short sharks have some star power for sure but I think you could argue they depth is their biggest strength standout performances from guys like Robin Sans yakob Baron and Jim Walder given Hawaii Pacific a lot to be excited about as they begin regionals they’ll try to win another National Title they won it all in 2016 who’s going to try to knock him off the last team we unveil is Bola Biola finished third in this year’s pack West tournament Nico Ramirez try to be a catalyst for the Eagles he’s been terrific this season Biola Beats cui in the third place game in the conference tournament that helped them solidify a spot here in the Regionals all right there you have at the full 2024 NCAA tournament field that’ll begin
