I didn’t think it was going to be like [Applause] this the uh the things that I felt today I’ve uh I’ve never felt in any uh any golf tournament I’ve won it’s um it’s just a an unbelievable honor and that was about 45 seconds after not being able to say anything Justin Thomas very moved by being named a Louisville Hometown hero a banner has been unfurled on Bishop Lane with Thomas holding the Waker trophy given to the PGA Championship winner he’s won it twice and His Banner is right across from that of Bobby Nicholls another St Xavier grad who won the PGA Championship 40 years ago the mayor also proclaimed it Justin Thomas Day in Louisville and the governor named Thomas a Kentucky Colonel pretty overwhelming stuff for the golfer who just turned 31 yeah I I really don’t think it has anything to do with the PGA it’s just I I just love the city of Louisville so uh it means a lot to get this much support uh More Than People realize driving over here uh I was driving so he could eat lunch and and he told the story he goes I got off this exit every day to go to St X and he goes and I looked at those banners every day going to and from school and he’s like you know never did I ever think that one of those banners would be mine up there earlier in the day Thomas got in a practice round at Valhalla the site of the PGA Championship in just over a week it was the second straight day he got out to see some of the changes made to the course Thomas turned Pro the year before it was last held here in 2014 but was not yet on the PGA tour he hit it great for the nine holes that I saw made several birdie putts didn’t see too many big differences from the course he remembered yeah it’s not terribly different than I remember I mean it’s um it definitely just added length but a lot of the the characteristics of the course are still there or at least that I remember uh I I mean I hadn’t played in a while and I haven’t played it that often so I wasn’t sure how much I’d remember but I did more than I thought I would and yeah it’s just it’s a it’s a long golf course you got to drive it well you got to hit your irons well a lot of long irons and uh it’s just a a you know big big course has very very long I mean probably the most uh mid to Long irons he consistently hit into holes than any golf tournament I can remember I mean he had tons of four fives and six irons so it’s it’s long Thomas was flying to Charlotte this afternoon for this week’s Wells Fargo Championship and then back here next week hoping for a strong showing before the Home Folks Tom Lane WDRB Sports thanks
