The PGA TOUR returns to Texas this week for THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch, where Jason Day will attempt to defend his title. He claimed victory here in 2010, as well as 2023, and has three top-10s so far this season. The Australian most recently finished T18 at the RBC Heritage. Jordan Spieth will also be in the field, where he’ll be competing on the 14th anniversary of his PGA TOUR debut this week. The American claimed a T9 (2021) and solo second (2022) at TPC Craig Ranch in previous years. Spieth will return to his home state of Texas this week with confidence after finishing T10 at the Valero Texas Open earlier this month. The native Texan will attempt to break a long-standing curse, as no Texan has won this event since Scott Verplank in 2007. Others to look out for this week are Min Woo Lee, Tom Kim, Adam Scott and Jake Knapp

all right we’ve been watching the play at the long par 37th rul Pera from Mexico how about the t- shop what a swing holding that pose it did of the early highlights that morning wave so the first hole of the day was the 10th for day the defending champ and as soft as the conditions were a little bit of an advantage coming out of that right rough and you can see him just control the spin perfectly 5 under how about Jordan Speed still kind of dealing with that wrist this is in the same group as Jason day and he’s in the Fairway and look at how much spin he puts on this ball into the T obviously a local man first played this when he was 16 years of age there are just some incredible Legends in the game Ryan pmer spy put on the way here at 10 can get Speedy coming down that hill but match play speed back of the cup that’s going to work out there is a little bit of a back stop another goodlooking shot for Jordan man these irons are dialed in I’ll say that is what we like to see from see Kim K Le Adam Scott that Griff Hardy at two under this on the way at 13 had a chance to defend his title at the Zurich last week and getting better and better oh getting perfect how about that so from the Fairway the hole out for Hardy it feels better and Tom hogi at the 17th this place is going to be on fire the ranch later today and all weekend just striping it just below his name and to the left cuz I don’t want to jinx him but the iron game has been superb so far today looks like it’s going to stay that way right now and Hadley now seven for seven as it every Green side oh that was tasty Hadley certainly gave him something to look at taking a little higher trajectory but a very similar line and he said there’s plenty of room between your ball and the flag look at this that’s ridiculous wow that’s an easy hold 236 get the six iron in Ace Matt Wallace though better than anybody today looking for a second win out here well he gets hot he can get it going struggles a little bit with his mental Rio H ATS just off the edge of the seventh green see he just landed it on the front fren this is so fast but finds the bottom of the cup trying to draw it into this left hole location great shot oh what a shot goodness and here’s Garnett back at six not had the best day so far for the champion at the corales Puerto Rico open H it you a lengthy one here at the fourth this is what he’s known for it’s good to see him starting to make some long putts again 3 under came steep on that one I could tell by his follow through but that worked out really nicely he’s not sure how that’s Justin Hadley he’s one back of Wallace and pendri and norin over 13 out of position so generally not going to be as aggressive but he was able to get an ey line of that flag and that’s just getting better and better that was a hard one come on ball yeah that’ll come [Applause] back nicely done there from Hughes Rio hotun mention out Matty Schmid who is a Sir Henry cotton Award winner on the DP World Tour same for H the reigning DP World Tour Rookie of the Year his second yeah I really wanted Adam to win over there at uh Tampa last year he had to hit the ball left-handed on the last hole got kind of a tough break got sted on a tree got her up 17th this one might need to sit down [Applause] three dimes right there to the 17th and time Brad Hopper here across the green at the hall they call Ranch 17 kind of a stadium Hall 6,000 folks packed in there and you can hear the reaction wonderful atmosphere out there today a good round going for Brad we go over to the ninth how about Chris Kim the 16-year-old and sponsor his exemption this week Amer from England how about that to finish up and he talked here in a PGA Tour event about saying hey I want to make the cut that’s I’m focused on that just had miles Russell on the corn fairy tour finished top 25 a couple weeks ago at the leom he’s a really solid young player that’s on a great line did he pick the right number he sure did what a shot Davis Thompson throwing a dart here at 17 [Applause] as sounded nice and looks really nice isn’t curving at all oh what a shot what a shot come on now [Applause] young with two birdies one bogey today this is a good position to operate from he had 142 yards coming in and he did take on Jagger at 10 just one shot one yard closer see if he can learn something and this is tracking how about those two shots Fairways are overrated oh I guess to the 15th and Marley FL today towards the back of the green towards that bunker up on a Shelf need that one to trundle up a bit more oh yeah it’s going KN out very well indeed lovely shot that pretty impressive with the soft greens to get it up that Ridge right on the edge here andam Scott on the way at 12 oh yeah you knew it right away with authority too all right couple holes coming up he can take advantage of be 17th and then he went to college in Texas at bayor Jimmy [Applause] Walker oh yeah getting close wonderful 45 years of [Applause] age and this one much better line here right at the flag ooh that was pure just right at it up to go to 6 under we were talking about nicknames for Jake knap earlier and her suggestion let’s see if you want to go with this the cooler the cooler I kind of like it I like it I think that’s better than the uh than the pipes that oh out of nowhere must be all that stretching he’s been doing go stretch Bo Hustler to three under closing out the coverage here on day one in Texas and the morning wave having the better end of it 63 Matt Wallace 8 under trying to win for the second time how do you explain it in the afternoon still could get somebody who challenges with a few holes left here but they haven’t those numbers off in the morning wave I’d like to say it’s because the greens
