time for the night cap the bad boys of naland still three games behind the nanners in the standings on this tour we’ll see if the boys and yellows can split the double header their defense left to right in the Outfield Robert Anthony Cruz Ree alexiadis and Danny Hosley third to first in the infield gave Howell Ryan Cox Jackson olssen and Brandon Crosby behind the plate it is Eric Jones Jr and starting on the mound Ethan scoo bananas five trick plays away from 100 as a team this season five different players recorded a trick play in the first game today in this double header Ryan Cox still leading the tour with 35 on the year and REE alexiadis three trick plays in right field this season he’ll see if he can get one as he draws the first start in center field by a player not named Dr Meadows time to take a closer look at skooj with his one trick play in as many attempts in his rookie campaign he has been one of the best strikeout pitchers we have ever seen in this sport 26 strikeouts across his 24 frames pitch and last start for Ethan scoo in Baton Rouge four Innings pitched in scooch collecting six strikeouts in that span unsurprisingly leading this bananas team and the tour in 2024 and for skooj again it’s just a matter of pounding the Zone against the party animals and also using a good slider and splitter against these guys as well really commands a vast and the party animals collected five trick plays in game one as well against the Banas Jason Swan the only man with multiple trick plays now up to five on the season and Dustin babber with the Party Animals lead in the trick play Department going to look at Garrett Delano’s numbers on this tour he has been one of the best pitchers thus far and with noan nnick getting roughed up a little bit in our first game those numbers May Vault him up to being the best pitcher on the tour well the bananas batting just 198 against gar deleno on this year’s World Tour but his last start the most he’s been roughed up this season is he was tacked for seven hits and three runs only able to record one strike at against the bananas they were just putting it in play and they were falling in for hits you got a real quick look at the bananas lineup Gabe howl at the top after 17 straight starts in the leadoff spot for Di Meadows holding down center field he gets the night off he’s perfectly okay just a little bit of rest for the guy so Howell man out of Somerville Georgia elevated to the leadoff spot he had been consistently in the two-hole as of late quickly behind o and2 and deleno continues to Pound The Zone this is when Garrett pitches best well Gabe Howell is used to batting at the top of orders of course we’ve seen him in the two-hole Plenty this season but even in the Pioneer league and way back when he was a Collegiate banana a guy Tyler Gillum loved to bat lead off my first season as the bananas broadcaster was Gabe Howell second as a Collegiate banana and he was penciled into the leadoff spot pretty much every game he was in what’s also perfect about batting Howell leadoff he is a tough batter he’s seeing more pitches per plate appearance than any other batter on this Banana’s team averaging a little over four pitches per plate appearance and that just makes the batters that come up behind him a lot stronger as how makes pitchers work and if you’re wondering how Howell perform Med in the 28 games as a leadoff man for the 2020 Savannah bananas 390 batting average of 467 on base percentage I’d say that’s doing the job as he battles deleno here again making gar deleno work already six pitches out of the ry’s hand we’re about to see a seven and he fouls it off out of cool ray field former Braves minor leager getting to play here in the home of the Braves triaa Anthony Cruz by the way swinging at the first pitch from deleno and getting aggressive after so many pitches were thrown in that previous at bat between Howell and deleno 10 count on Dan Oberst only thirdd home run was a two1 two-run blast in the eighth that tied the inning at the time Eric Jones Jr would follow it up with a two-run homer to walk it off no burst and deleno thick as thieves to Jitsu sparring partners great friends ever since they met each other in banana ball front door door Bender heck of a piece of hitting by Dan he takes a healthy turn but we’ll be content with a single with two down yeah Delo tried to go inside and with a breaker to Dan obers sat back on it and drove it into left field just a great piece of hitting and Michael De who has also been redh hot for this bananas ball club now comes up and we’ll see how aggressive Dan is over at first base if he tries to steal and get in the scoring position deep one for three with the ball for Sprint as both offerings just barely miss the top of the zone right around the outside corner pitchers pitches deleno doesn’t get either call and Deb ready to hack look he got a two seamer there deleno with five pitches two seam four seam and cut fast balls with a curveball and a change up and he will throw any of the five pitches in any count two and two second time deas fouled a ball off himself today pain for a second really cool and really special for all of these guys they’ve been all smile since arriving here in Gwynette County for this series of games and what’s really going to be cool is we’re going to have three of these four guys on a microphone in tonight’s game so you guys can look out for Jake skull Austin Kris Minsky and Gabe Howell all joining us on the broadcast tonight that’s a fact and just editors note Powell out of Somerville Chris Minsky out of Roswell same Hometown as Mr Jake skull GIS Minsky finished up at golf State College year of jco before he was signed by the Los Angeles Angels trying to go 360 of sorts there it looks like and not able to come up with the snag so cornette reach on a trick play Miss to start this second inning yeah that was a very difficult play the great eight just tried to pull off backpedaling twisting his body got the ball in the glove just lost it around his keer and now chase a who has been the best hitter on the tour thus far for the party animals mostly out of the seven spot elevated to the five hole in each of these two games today went two for five with a couple runs scored in the first ball game going back to that trick play M from Jackson Olson I think you’re okay with trying that play especially even at the start of the inning when you see a guy like Ethan scoo whose stuff is absolutely on tonight already his fourth strikeout in the ball game and looks like he might be ding diing somebody on his Banana Phone to celebrate the punch out looks like Vincent Chapman picking up on the other end home play umpire has a Banana Phone of his own and we now send that towards the stands another look just some oldfashioned hard ball heater right around the shoulders good luck hitting that elevate the heater you see it in the eyes they kind of light up a little bit and the next thing you know not able to catch up to it good pitch from Ethan scoo he’s consistently 93 to 94 mph with the fast ball can touch 98 we’ve seen him hit 96 so far on this tour Tanner Thomas the left fielder oh for four with the ball fourward Sprint one run driven in in our first ball game he muscles this one deep out to left and it’s off the base of the wall Cruz plays it well he’s going to keep cornette at third and Tanner Thomas who was home run trotting it thought he had left the confines of cool ray field we have to be content with a booming single yeah one of the longest singles we’ve seen this year in 2024 and for Tanner Thomas we weren’t getting a bat flip out of him he was just standing there and admiring his work thinking that one was going to leave the yard but only gets one base out of it we saw that on his home run in Baton Rouge last week and boy oh boy did it look awful cool when the ball did leave the yard Barrel Ball but no official no Fisher a little early on it out a Madison Heights Michigan suburb of Detroit and his first banana ball campaign came out of the gates absolutely Gang Busters has slowed down a little bit as of late Banas have figured out how to execute with breaking balls down and away that have got a decent amount of strikeouts on fish you had a booming two-run check that one-run double off the right field wall in the first game now we have Tanner Thomas caught trying to steal second Crosby slaps the tag on cornette never tried to head home Tanner trying to get a perfect jump on scoo Jay who was able to jump off the Rubber and get a huge second out yeah Tanner thought he had Ethan scoo caught off guard there great Eyes by Jackson Olsen just continuing to watch DC three hoping he would not leave Third Base there and then the very next pitch from scj his fifth strikeout in this ball game and he gets out of the inning in four minutes 23 seconds picks up his defense cornette reached on the trick play missed ends up stranded on third as you get another look F not thrilled with the call Anthony corado and Mike fases both chatting with Vincent Chapman now if I was a betting man I would say they’re talking about the obstruction call question mark that got obst up to second in the bottom of the first we’ll find out after the game for now we’ve got the party animals right fielder Jake skull jogging out to his position Jake how you doing man what’s up fellas oh we’re doing so much better now that we hear you how cool is it to get to bring banana ball up to your neck of the woods it’s great man it’s a it’s an awesome game proud to be a part of it and happy to show some of my friends and family you know what it looks like what we’re doing on a on a weekly basis it’s just a lot of fun Jake get a heck of a first game in this double header two doubles for yourself did you feel just a little bit of an extra motivation to perform well being back here in your homeown not really I think it might have felt more of a a calmness um just to feel a little bit calm in your home state maybe and you know take what they give you this game is still baseball and when you’re on offense you don’t have the the ball’s not in your hand on offense so it’s it’s a tough one you only can do what they give you so I think that was what this uh first game was a little bit about now when when you got called out in the three hole for the party animals lineup I mean there was a noticeable difference in the rockus Applause you got how many people do you have at this game today sorry I might have lost you guys for a second that’s okay skoie what kind of a what kind of friends and family number-wise do you have on hand today I probably got between um Avery and I probably 15 to 20 friends and family and then uh another 20 to 30 coming tomorrow the it it sounded like the people knew that you’re a HomeTown kid because the Roar of the crowd when you were announced in your lineup was pretty definite yeah I think um this crowd has seen a few skulls come through it um my brother played here quite often with the Charlotte Knights he got to come here I remember shooting down from Athens a handful of knights after practice and uh catching his games him and Austin Riley yeah that’s a pretty good lineup as Hosley sends one your way yep yep that ends a very long hitless drought the first inning and it seemed like you guys were pretty apoplectic about it as well yeah the um the ruling I got from Bryson and the umpires after the inning was over was that it was unoccupied base and I’m like I don’t know if I fully agree with that um I think just because the uh position player is not there they can still throw it over there it’s it’s a risky play but we got away with one so I guess the ball don’t lie and he probably should have been on second anyway yeah Deber with the barrel ended up right to Swan at first so no harm no foul y it is true that pitchers cannot throw to an unoccupied base it is a b but with there being no box in banana ball things things get a little dicey that’s kind of a Feld yeah there W aren’t supposed to be box out here but uh we found one correct one two on alexiadis then deleno getss him swinging he’s got his cutter working today that was nasty that thing died I can’t tell from here I can I like playing center field behind them I can tell when it’s cutter or slider but they’re both pretty wicked we get another look at it on the broadcast that thing disappeared and now Brandon Showtime Crosby appears in the right-handed batter’s box he gets plunked Peter right off the armu guard and got get the four seam up and tight I’ll tell you what though from experience we got the best gear in the business with EVO Shield but they uh that still ever had in our young sport yeah he is we got good little match up here but he’s tough especially with guys on he dials it in wison fooled on the change up there he’s behind 0 and2 how much time have y’all spent in Georgia well Josh grew up he grew up about 45 minutes down the road I know Josh has I’ve been enjoying this a lot myself I’ve been thrilled to be back here personally it it’s been uh animals well knowing you’ve got a flamethrower nethan scoo sometimes they just going to take that fast ball and be content with hitting it to the opposite field Falls in for Porter and he will immediately be pinched ran for by Jordan Hussein the man out of mandaville Louisiana replaced by the Houston Texas native Hussein finally a full participant after he was injured just before beginning his banana ball career now scoo J Olsen Cox and alexiadis participating in the 322 this is Ree Alexis’s 322 debut first game he’s gotten to start in Center that was his primary position over the past three years with the Ogden Raptors in the Pioneer League he can man an awful well looks like he could Boogie awful well too and talking to him pregame before this game kicked off told him that I was excited to see him in center field and he didn’t want to talk about possibly collecting a trick play in Center all he could talk about was I am going to nail that 322 tonight reys does everything 100% well Josh NY he just wants to be the best at everything he participates in and he is soaking up every aspect of banana ball looking at the entertainment just as much as coming in here and being the best hitter on this tour which is what the bananas brought him in to do hoping to counter Reese Hampton on the party animals alexiadis has had a really nice start to his first season good battle here from Dustin babber at the dish tling off everything skooj has for him he went one for five in our first game today there go Jordan Hussein thought about it and then put the car in Reverse Brandon Crosby fighting through his own teammates comes up with the catch that was a tricky play for showtime and always the Entertainer he stumbl away after making the catch like he was going to get into a collision with all 11 or so players that are just out there by The Dugout great play by Crosby and uh a great job by The Dugout in general just scattering 12 players and one Reginald Horton oh yes man that was good I got to start counting uh or guessing jelly beans in the jar next it’s your true calling buddy now Jason Swan the first baseman had a doozy of a day in our first game three for four a double two runs driven in one scored adding on to a hot start to his second world tour flicks this one into right field that was two of his three hits in our first game just taking what the pitchers are giving him and peppering the ball through the Four Hole I mean it just continues to be more and more impressive the more you see it from swanie he doesn’t try and do too much every time when he’s up there at the plate but we’ve also seen when Swan gets those mistake pitches boy does he make the pitcher of course two home runs as well on this tour and three opposite field hits today awfully awfully impressive now great speed on both bags for the animals back to the top of the order two- count on Reese Hampton struck out swinging his first time oh baby beautiful two- pitch sco does not get the call and this is where in banana ball you have to throw it right down the middle that’s why Reese Hampton was Cutting Loose on on 3 and0 ball four would score Hussein from second could even score Swan from first and Hampton especially loves swinging on 3 0 because he knows that the outfielders are starting to shift in possibly for that Sprint defense if he can hit one over their heads because of the shift it usually leads Dexter bases here we’ll draw the ball for a Sprint and it’ll be the party animals drawing first blood in this ball game as two runs come around to score swanie sliding in head first safely there’s the speed from the 5-year man out of Georgia Southern and the Animals celebrate drawing first blood with their patented Party Rock Anthem dance around home plate Hampton picks up a pair of stakes Herby 12 and 13 check that 13 and 14 he had one in our first game today as he breaks into the top three in rbi’s on the season now Vincent Chapman has to pause the action to dust off home plate really he just has to dust off home plate here he not going to dance everybody home plate was truly just absolutely swamped C is good old time doing that too I seems as if he’s being barked at he’s a thorough man correct he’s just soaking in the sounds of unhappiness from wherever it’s coming he’s got the toughest job out there on the field he hears it from the first and third base dugouts Bryson Bloomer leaves the Batters box but he’s allowed to do that after nearly being hit in the face by a 94 mph fast ball good protect there by Bloomer on a bender that had the Zone just like Hampton before him and skull after him he struck out swinging his first time and he lines it into the mid of a leaping Brandon Crosby who is taking care of both outs in this inning good reaction by Brandon Crosby and leaping in the there to catch that one as well again you just see how entertaining he is after celebrating that catch and for Crosby he just continues to get better and better over there at first base the more games he plays over there they made an Energizer Bunny up there in Mechanicsville Virginia that kid is chalk full of it Bender just misses below the knees to skull that one finds the spot Jake agrees and just barely misses this one out to left Center Robert Anthony Cruz makes the call and the catch but the party animals strike first a couple singles and and he has the ability to recognize party animals not covering Third Base just 90 ft away from scoring and tying this game at Four Points all unbelievable IQ from the doctor shades of Johnny Damon in the 2009 World Series in Citizens Bank Park one-1 count now on Howell the leadoff man for the nanners tonight three fly outs two to right one to Center and he’s trying to end this thing in one Fell Swoop had 17 home runs for the glacier range riders in the Pioneer League last year still looking for the first in his banana ball career and he fouls off the cutter so far in these matchups between Ryan Rodriguez and Gabe Howell it’s been the righty coming out on top Rodriguez with two strikeouts of Gabe Howell on the Young [Applause] tour and he pegs him how’s fourth time being hit by a pitch on the season takes a couple steps in Rodriguez’s Direction and will change his course to first base that is the fourth time he’s been plunked all smiles from virro two times more hit by pitches for Gabe Howell than anybody else on the season and just a pitch that got away from Ryan Rodriguez trying to set up inside against Gabe Howell running it a little to in on a guy who likes to crowd the plate and unsurprisingly Gabe Howell immediately takes off and swipes second base two runners in scoring position meaning a rack single or even a ball four Sprint could lead to a banan’s victory tonight in this game he was 33 for 36 in stolen base attempts across his two years as a Collegiate banana Robert Anthony Cruz ties is the game Howell gets a stop sign at third we are noted at Four Points a piece in the game-winning run 90 ft away and what a big time for the bananas to get their first hit of the Season against Ryan Rodriguez to tie this game at Four [Applause] Points now quite possibly the greatest hitter in banana ball history slow Tapper to the left side Bloomer has it nice play huge first out for the [Music] [Applause] animals Cruz up to Second and Rodriguez is out of the frying pan and into the fryer Michael vitamin Dee walk-offs in three of his last four games and it is always a professional at bat for the fourth year banana this is when Michael Dee is his most disciplined for the bananas and mind you we mentioned this in game one batting 333 in late game scenarios that would be Innings seven through nine oh for three on the night line out fly out and a strike out he’s behind one and [Applause] two bab Howell at third base runs exceptionally well we just saw that on display with his steal of [Music] second Chopper to First swan has to come home with it the tag not in time the bananas walk it off five to four and this brings up a really interesting situation bananas have walked off of this game but the party animals have a chance to possibly use their challenge they have it in this ball game and that’s exactly what we’ll see the party animals elect to use it we’re going to look at this in video review live it certainly looked like how was in there safely we’ll see what the video shows us yeah the first [Applause] look confirms what we saw live we’ve got every angle possible here we’re going to need it from the original angle just slowed party animals the bananas finally find a victory and the bananas of course rally in late game situations once again it’s kind of been the recurring theme of this team comeback guys and they do it in the seventh eighth and Ninth Innings here and really what I think this game teaches us is just how difficult it is to pitch in the ninth inning now a lot of the times we see guys like Danny Hosley and Drew Gillespie coming in for the bananas and party animals respectively and pitching very well but obviously it is very tricky and we saw two banana ball rookies in Austin Kris Minsky and Ryan Rodriguez having to adapt to pitching in such a high leverage situation where every run counts for a point of course it’s Kris Minsky who lets the party animals go ahead with a run in the top of the ninth but Ryan Rodriguez just can’t find the zone and then the bananas scrap together hits and use the Tyler Gillum Green Light Special to their advantage to wind up winning this ball game yeah that’s right it all starts with Dr Meadows pinch hitting earning the Sprint the ball four was awfully close right around the knees Vincent Chapman with a tight Zone in both games today that never changed and in the biggest moment of this ball game the call goes the banan way they end up capitalizing Robert Anthony Cruz with the game tying single and then Michael vitamin D does what he has to do gets the ball in play Gabe Howell going on contact and as Tyler Gillum says sure bursts pipes that’s exactly what happened right there the naners with a classic Tyler Gillum rally in the ninth inning and it’s just already so impressive that Dr Meadows does not play the first eight and a half Innings of this ball game bananas have enough confidence to say hey man you are our lead off guy and we’re going to lead you off here in the ninth inning trying to get something started the spark plug provides once again and we’ve got to commend him again for the IQ to be able to recognize there was no party animal covering Third Base whatsoever all of them bunched around second and just didn’t stop one bit in chugging towards third base and Gabe Howell behind one and two in the count had two strikeouts in his two career plate appearances against Ryan Rodriguez he ends up being plunked and he comes around to score the winning run he steals second base so I I mean that is just a classic Banana’s rally not to beat a dead horse but boy this is a Tyler Gillum team of old this is the kind of team that one back toback Coastal plane League championships in 2021 and 2022 and the thing is this system especially what we’ve seen in the ninth inning from the bananas it’s designed to irk the party animals pitchers Ryan Rodriguez obviously already frustrated when he gave up the ball for a Sprint even more frustrated when he saw Dr Meadows get all the way up to third base and then Rodriguez hits Gabe Howell and just kind of compounds from there never really regained that composure on the mound and I think it led to the mistakes that allowed the bananas to walk off this contest and how about Robert Anthony Cruz we mentioned the game tying single in the ninth before that the walk-off home run to win the seventh he is the first banana ball rookie to leave the yard so far in 2024 and he told Josh and I when we chatted with him in the prep season he was going to be swinging for the fences we’ve seen a lot of extra base hits he finally gets the ding-dong yeah he has been super impressive when you look at the slugging percentage the isolated power from Robert Anthony Cruz and he was telling us last weekend he felt like the swing was really coming into form it’s obviously shown up across Baton Rouge and now in these first two games here in Gwynette County we talked about it in our pregame show for the Day game the social media Superstars rack Jackson Olsson Ryan Cox all incredible in Baton Rouge Olsen walks off the eighth Cruz walks off the seventh and then Cruz in the middle of the rally that wins the game in the ninth as well I mean those guys when they are clicking Cruz now in the two-hole here tonight Olsson and Cox at the bottom of the order that is Big Time trouble and Ryan Cox golly forgot to mention one for one a single and he walked off the fifth I mean come on between Cox Olson and Cruz three of the four uh walk-offs leading up to the ninth inning right there unbelievable stuff okay we have to shout out our son of a gun three of the four walk-offs in the entire game all three of the walk-offs leading into the ninth okay covered all my bases we have to
