Tony we’re on the first te here for our
CJ cup Best Bets get us started yeah so
back to 18 holes this week as we kind of
returned to the a more normal quote
unquote normal Tour event and I’m going
to take us to the outright Market to
start and I’m going to go after Tom hogi
at 33 to1 um once again hogi will teed
up in a golf tournament where he is the
best ball Striker at least uh
statistically in a Scotty shef Sheffer
lless field on tour of the Season hogi
ranked second and strokes gained on the
approach and he has now gained Strokes
on on the approach in 10 consecutive
tournaments where shotlink data is
available he made the weekend all 10 of
those events boasting seven top 20
finishes over that stretch his ball
striking has been carrying him all
season and obviously that can separate
you from a pack especially in a field
that’s going to be relatively weak this
week um I I like the number at 33 to1
which I think is a bit long he did miss
the cut down in New Orleans last week
but I’m not going to put too much stock
on that because I mean it’s a team event
it’s a weird event you’re playing a
different set of rules and I’m not going
to use too much per too many guys
performances last week uh when you’re
teamed up with a partner to like change
my opinion on who they are as a golfer
moving forward
um honestly that Mis cut makes me like
hogi more this week because I don’t
think we get 33 to one if he finishes
like say 10th um and he’s made the
weekend here in both of his career
appearances and including at 17th Place
finish in 2022 so I just think the
numberers too long on hogi at 33 to1 so
that’s my first outright winner Target
this week I’m going to stick in the
outright market and the same tier of the
odds board and go with bang hung on 32
to1 enhanced on bet 365
I have been a huge believer in benan
since I followed him up close a couple
weeks ago at austa he absolutely mashes
the ball off the te I think that power
is going to play beautifully on a long
wide openen Golf Course like TPC Craig
Ranch uh where there’s a very low Miss
Fairway penalty he’s also a great long
iron player and despite the fact that he
can get a little shaky at times with the
flat stick he is still the number one
play in this field and birdies are
better gained over his last 50 rounds he
almost won a birdie Fest earlier this
season at the centry Tournament of
Champions against a much stronger field
on another driver ho heavy wideopen golf
course so this is the perfect venue for
benan to get that elusive first PGA Tour
Victory I’m a huge benan fan so I love
that play I’m going to keep us in the
outright market around the same odds as
well and I’m going to go after Min wo Le
at 30 3 to one so we haven’t seen minwoo
since Augusta but he posted 22nd Place
finish there at a much harder venue
against a much tougher field right so if
you take out his terrible performance at
the valpar championship Lee has been
training the right direction he’s made
the weekend in 14 of his past 15 tour
events four top 10 finishes over that uh
stretch and that includes a runner-up
finish at the cognizant classic and a
fifth place finish at last year’s Us
open so we have a guy that competed at a
US Open and a masters and you’re like so
I can definitely see him taking down
this field at such a wide price at 33
to1 I mean if he’s competing in those
two events against those two Fields he
can beat this field for
sure I’m gonna stick in the outright
market and roll with Keith Mitchell 45
to one enhanced on bet 365 I love that
number we know that Mitchell provides a
bunch of power off the T but his
development into one of the better long
iron players in this field over the
course of the last season I I think is
the key the missing piece for him in his
Ascent uh he’s a great putter he makes a
ton of birdies but this is a second Shot
Golf Course where you’re going to have
over 50% of all approach shots coming
from over 175 yards the fact that Keith
Mitchell has really turned into this
awesome long iron player as a
complimentary skill set to go along with
his power off the T to go along with his
putting he’s gained Strokes on
approaching seven straight starts I
think he’s got all of the tools to
collect his second career PGA Tour
Victory this week in Dallas absolutely
love it I love how he’s been playing
recently I’m also GNA say again around
the same odds Thomas dietre 40 to1 at
bet 365 dri has really started R to form
recently with five straight weekend
appearances and two top 10 finishes over
that stretch he finished eighth last
week in New Orleans and I know I already
said like take that with a grain of salt
but it’s just that’s kind of the cherry
on top he’s been playing well even
before um New Orleans dri is just
seemingly doing everything well right
now he has gained uh true total Strokes
in five consecutive tournaments he’s
driving the ball far he’s driving it
well his approach shots are sticking and
his putter has been hot the only
critique that I can really make about
dri right now is a scrambling but I mean
how often are you GNA be in a scrambling
situation at TPC Craig Ranch you know
it’s a pretty easy course and I think
that he’s going to be putting approach
shots on the greens anyway so he’s not
going to have to face difficult up and
downs on of thick rough he’s going to be
in good spot all week so he should be
able to put himself in a position of
success come
Sunday I’m going to take us into the top
10 market and go with Maverick McNeely
top 10 plus 600 I’ve mentioned the
emphasis at this golf course on power
off the tea and putting and Maverick
McNeely checks those two boxes in Spades
uh he’s had a lot of success before on
these wide open driver heavy birdie fast
on BG grass he’s got an e place finish
at the rocket mortgage a 14th at fidant
Vara the Mexico open he’s starting to
play a lot better golf this season
coming back from injury I don’t know if
I totally trust him to get across the
finish line but I’m going to go with
Maverick
McNeely top 10 plus 600 uh at the Byron
Nelson I’m gonna take us back to the
outright Winter Market one last time and
I’m gonna go after Davis Thompson that’s
70 to1 so I just talk about D’s a guy
who I’m like trying to by as he’s like
kind of on the upswing you know trending
in the right direction Thompson’s also
kind of a guy like that for me where
he’s made the weekend in four
consecutive tournaments and he’s got
three top 25 finishes over that stretch
we don’t really know what his ceiling is
yet he’s still such a young golfer he’s
only 24 years old and I feel like the
field is just so wide open this week
there’s going to be a lot of good Dart
throws make especially on young guys who
maybe are trying to break through you
know we’ve seen that so far this season
with the guys like nap Dunlap Etc I
think Thompson is a guy who could have a
sort of a breakthrough um performance
and if he’s going to do that it would be
at something like this week where
there’s gonna be a lot of scoring it’s
gonna be open and it’s gonna be against
a field that’s not that tough compared
to some of these other bigger
tournaments or the signature events that
we see throughout the year and finally
Thompson made the cut here last year um
he performed pretty poorly over the
weekend if I memory serves right but it
was his first appearance here and now
he’s got four rounds of experience under
his belt so now he gets to head back to
Texas against a weak field and a
tournament that he or a course that he
kind of knows how to manage now with
four rounds under his belt so Thompson
at 70 to1 is my last outright pick this
week I’m going to take us back to the
top 10 Market with another top 10 play
at the same odds as Mark Hub or as
Maverick mcneel and go with Mark hubard
at plus 600 to finish in the top 10 what
Hubbert lacks in terms of his power off
the te he makes up for with his
approaches he is one of the best long
iron players in this field I love the
way that he’s been playing lately he’s
coming off a near Miss top five finish
at the Zurich Classic with Ryan brem
where I watched a lot of the Zurich last
week he was the far superior player in
that pairing uh and I actually think if
they got a little bit more out of brem
over the weekend they could have been
the last team standing in that event um
he’s had success on these birdie fests
he’s had success on Ben grass in the
past he is the type of player with the
approach and putting upside that I truly
believe can get to 25 under if this
event calls to it so I’m going for Mark
hubard top 10 plus 600 I’m gonna head to
that market as well and keep us around
the same odds I’m gonna go after Ben
Griffin top 10 which is uh plus
700 again kind of like the hogy thing
where I don’t want to put too much stock
and how guys played last week I think
this number could be a little inflated
because Griffin was part of a team that
did miss the cut last week but prior to
that Griffin made the weekend in 16 of
his past or prior 20 tournaments with
three top 10 finishes over that stretch
so at 7 to1 you would be profitable just
blindly betting him at this price over
uh that that sample size and again we
have to keep in mind this is going to be
a pretty water downfield Griffin he’s
hitting the ball well he’s gained true
total Strokes in each of the past five
tournaments where shotlink data is
available and he’s doing so with a
well-rounded game when it comes to Ben
Griffin he’s kind of got I would say his
main flaw as his driver right but as you
mentioned earlier TVC Craig Ranch is
wide open you’re not going to be
penalized too much with your driver it’s
just it’s an easy score just to go out
there shoot hit the ball you’ll be okay
pretty much and um I mean there’s I
think it was last year with no I think
it was the opening round he Lally broke
his driver and set the course record I
mean you can get away he literally got
away with playing without a driver for
like it was like the back nine um so
that proves that you can kind of get
away with it and if you take out
Griffin’s driver I trust the rest of his
bank for sure so at 7 to one I’ve seen
crazier things this season for sure than
Ben Griffin finishing the top
10 I’m going to go into the top 20
market and roll with Peter Quest top 20
plus 300 I love the way that Quest has
been playing lately he started this
season on the corn fairy tour but he got
the call up at the Valero Texas open
finished top 10 there gain Strokes in
all four major categories and then he
backed it up with a Ninth Place finish
at the corales pun Tana Club
Championship and Resort and Club
Championship he finished 14th at this
event last year he’s finished fourth
last year at the rocket mortgage classic
and 17th last year at the John Deere
classic what do all of those courses
have in common they are all very easy
golf courses with B grass greens Quest
is an absolute bomber off the tea he is
one of the longest players in this
entire field he’s a great long iron
player as well and I think what sets him
apart is that he can also get hot on the
greens as well particularly on Ben grass
he gained 4.9 Strokes putting at this
event last year and as you’ve seen with
his course history with his corollary
course history he tends to race his
Baseline as well on these easier golf
courses these easier Bent Grass Golf
Courses so the compination of the recet
form the course fit Peter Quest top 20
plus 300 I really like that um I’m going
to go back to the top 10 Market one last
time and I’m gonna go after Maddie
Schmid uh Schmid excuse me at top 10
which is 9 to one this is my kind of
Boomer busz go for the week this is
going to be Guy where it’s definitely a
dart throw and if he misses the cut by
five Strokes I won’t be shocked he’s
he’s only made the weekend in seven of
his past 15 tournaments but two of those
resulted in top 10 finishes so just like
the Griffin play um if you’re blindly
betting him at that number you’d be
profitable over that stretch
Additionally the back end of the stretch
has seen much better golf as shmid has
gained uh total true Strokes in five of
his past six tournaments of which
shotlink data has been or is available
he made the weekend in all six of those
events and finished in the top 10 one so
he’s yes the bigger sample size has been
more um what’s the room not as um well
done by him but he’s training the right
direction over the back end of that
stretch and I think if we’re trying to
catch him on the upswing this can be a
field where he can kind of take
advantage of that so at nine to one I
like um schmeid to finish inside the top
10 I’m going to go back to the top 20
market and roll with Justin laau top 20
plus 350 La is just straight up one of
the best B grass Putters in this entire
field he rakes second in this entire
field over his last three years in B
grass Putters when you’re digging into
the top 20 Market looking for players
farther down the board at plus 300 or
longer odds just to finish in the top 20
I’m looking for are you Elite at at
least one thing not only is Justin low
uh an elite putter he is also a great
iron player he’s gained over four
strokes on approach in both of his
finishes at the Byron Nelson um he’s got
a ton of upside and the ability to spike
on approach and he’s also got a great
history of success on these wideopen
driver heavy easier golf courses uh he’s
coming off a fourth place finish a
couple weeks ago at the corales and
prior to that he also finished top five
this year at Vidant viarta another golf
course that I’ve mentioned here in the
past in terms of its corollary nature of
skill sets again that’s another Golf
Course where the name of the game is
long irons power off the te wide open
low Miss Fairway penalty and get hot
with the putter Justin lower finish top
five both at Vidant viarta and the
corales uh punana so uh he’s just got an
affinity for these types of golf courses
and I love the upside that he provides
on the greens and on approach absolutely
I’m going to go towards the first round
leader Market um and as always I am
waiting to actually lock in these first
round leader plays until te times are
announced which they were not by the
start of this podcast so keep an eye out
for my first round leader article here
this week week at the Action Network but
with that said as long as these guys
aren’t among like the last groups out
then this is the direction I’m heading
starting with Adam Scott which is 40 to
one at who is 40 to1 at bet 365 Scott
hasn’t been winning events um but he’s
been competing he’s more than capable I
mean former Masters champion he’s
definitely more than capable of taking
down this field in any round he has
gained true total Strokes in seven of
his past eight tour events finishing
inside the top 20 in five of those seven
times he’s playing a good brand of golf
he should be able to stay hot in Texas
especially such an easy course he
finished eighth year last year so he’s
got good form good experience at this
course and again weak field former
master champion I just think if I’m
Thursday evening rolls around Adam Scots
in lead I’m just not shocked so at 40
to1 that is where I’m heading for my
first first round leader Market play I’m
gonna go into the top 40 market and
select a player uh that I was very
surprised you could get plus odds on in
the top 40 Market I actually think that
he possesses a ton of upside this week
and that is Taylor pendrith plus 130 in
the top 40 market we’ve mentioned the
skill set of power off the te long iron
play and B grass putting Taylor pendrith
checks all of those boxes in Spades it
should not come as a surprise that his
best PGA Tour finish came at the rocket
mortgage classic that is another wide
openen driver heavy birdie fest with
bent grass screens very easy scoring
conditions um
I look at this Golf Course TPC Craig
Ranch and I think about players who’ve
got a lot of Pop are great long iron
players and the ability to spike with
the flat stick that is the player
profile that I’m targeting this week and
I think if you’re looking for a discount
option of a player at plus odds to make
the cut and finish in the top 40 I think
Taylor pendrith plus 130 um is about as
good as you can get I I totally agree
that shocks me he’s that that he’s plus
130 I’m stick in the first round leader
Market again um and I’m going to go
after sanj M at 45 to1 so he actually
just went over to Korea and won the kpga
Korean or won an event on the kpga
Korean tour so I’m to be real with you I
have no idea if that’s impressive or not
but it’s still it can’t hurt him right
it’s still he still won a professional
golf event so it can only be beneficial
at least for his psyche um I think
sunjay went over there just to see one
tournament you know go his way because
he’s struggled so far this season at
least in terms of the standards you
would expect from a guy like sunj
but with that said before he went over
to Korea he just finished 12th at the
RBC Heritage before that win over there
so maybe we’re starting to see kind of
turnaround and back to the sunj of old
if we are then I could see a fast start
on Thursday I think if sunjay was in the
form that we are typically see not I
think I definitely know if he was in the
form that we expect of him there’s no
way he’d be 45 to one in this market
against this caliber of field so that’s
where I want to go for another first
round leader
play I am going to go with one more top
40 selection before I finish this off in
the first round later Market as well and
go with Nate Lashley top 40 plus 160 uh
I am always a huge Nate Lashley fan
because of his Elite approach play he’s
got a couple strong finishes at the
Byron Nelson as well and you look at his
performance again on some of these
longer long iron intensive golf courses
uh he fin he was great at Tory pance
earlier this year that’s another driver
heavy long Ison golf course and I’ve met
mentioned the rocket mortgage Detroit
Golf Club many times already as a strong
Coral area in terms of the easy scoring
conditions and the benr putting Nate
Lashley won that event as a Monday
qualifier as well so I’m not asking for
a lot this week although I do think he
has the upside to finish top 10 if you
want to get a little bit more ambitious
but I thought plus 160 to finish in the
top 40 Market was an absolutely great
number absolutely agree and then for my
last first round leader play I’m going
to go after Steven joerger at 45 to1 um
he should be eager to return to Texas
right he was last time he was in Texas
was just a few weeks ago at the Texas
Children’s Houston open an event which
he won he now heads to a different venue
in TPC Craig Ranch um but he also had
success at this track as he finished
38th in his first appearance here in
2022 and then improved upon that with an
11th Place finish last year you know
what you’re going to get from jger in
terms of his golf game he is going to
hit the ball far and he’s going to
follow that up with a good approach shot
and green side play the question with
him starts to emerge once you’re
actually on the greens but again this
course is so easy for guys of these guys
uh caliber I’m not worried about him
needing to save Strokes you know these
long pot putts or like trying to
scramble to get up and down I think he’s
going to be putting himself with his
approach shots well his drives first and
then his approach shots I think he’s
going to be putting himself in pretty
good birdie looks all week so his
probably doesn’t have to be great just
has to be good enough and if it is then
at least on Thursday he’s definitely
skill set wise at absolutely capable of
leading this field um so I like him at
45 to one I am going to finish this off
in the first round leader with a player
that I know and love and have mentioned
on this podcast many times that’s Andrew
Novak 100 to one first round leader
anytime Andrew Novak is triple digits in
the first round leader Market you
blindly got to do it he has had a number
of close first round leader calls
already this season if you filter out
this entire field which some very solid
top end Talent at the top of it um for
first round scoring average Stephan
joerger is number two in this entire
field and I can promise you he’s the
only one close to the top of that list
that you can find at triple digit odds
he is a great approach player he has
mentioned before he likes to get off to
hot starts in tournaments um I love his
ability to spike on approach I love his
ability to spike with the flat stick as
well I’ve mentioned Vidant Vara as this
very driver heavy Golf Course uh with
similar easy scoring conditions a low
Miss Fairway penalty Novak has an eighth
place finish there as well as another
top 15 at the Tom wisoff design TBC
Scottdale both of those tournaments he
got off to a really hot start I think
that he can keep the momentum rolling
and get off to another hot start again
in Dallas and that will do it for our
