Friends, Competitors and Legends | Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus Elevating Golf and Each Other

Friends, competitors and legends. Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus elevated the game of golf, and with it, each other. #themasters

Since 1934, the Masters Tournament has been home to some of golf’s greatest moments. Amidst blooming azaleas, towering pines and flowering dogwoods, the first full week of April ushers in a stage unique to golf and to sport. Over four days and 72 holes, the smallest field in major championship golf competes for a chance to capture the Green Jacket and a place in Masters history.

than Arnold

pulmer from 1958 to
1964 Arnold dominated the field he
dominated the tournament if he didn’t
win he came close and Palmer The
Incredible had a blistering 68 that was
the Arnold Palmer era at austa it’s very
definite that Arnold Palmer is the man
to beat Arnold was really good to me
when I turned Pro he didn’t have to be
but he was took me under his wing and I
appreciated that Arnold won the Masters
at 58 hard helps new champ Palmer into
the green Cult of the master in 59 was
the first year that I played at the end
of 36 holes I had hit 31 Greens in
regulation I had eight three putt greens
and shot 150 Arnold Palmer Arnold hit 19
Greens in regulation shot 141 was
leading the tournament I’m s there say
you know something’s not right here I
better learn how to put these
greens 1960 i’ learned a little bit
about the golf course I was low abor
ladies and gentlemen this is Jack
neckace you played wonderful golf AR one
AR Palmer is the master chion I don’t
know what to say at the moment I’m
probably as happy as I’ve ever been in
my life came back the next year arold
almost won again arold scooted his
bunker shot across the green and made
double bogey Gary W and 61 the new
Masters champion Gary player was one of
those years that developed into becoming
the big three and there is your champion
of 1962 at the Masters Gary Player
congratulates Arnold Palmer and there is
your new Masters champion youngest ever
and the white Captain is in the air when
I won in 63 Arnold put the green jacket

Palmer was pretty special cuz he was the
king the defending Champion has just put
that pretty green coat on Jack necklace
that was my first Green Jacket there was
one that I cherish Palmer 32 ft away he
always played well here going up up he
loved the place yes it drops right at
the B and the game is on Arnold was
wedding in those years they created his
reputation by playing out of the trees
around bushes over the top of everything
magnificent shot and almost holds the
monster people love watching AR PA
rolling up on the green ho a 20-footer a
sid Hill 20-footer that was Arnold
Palmer he was always a force to reckon
with
he’s got a fitting climax who knows that
that was going to be his last Green
Jacket the 1963 champion Jack Nicholas
helps Palmer into the Victor’s green
Augusta jacket Palmer’s
fourth the next year in 65 I won by
quite a few shots arold and Gary were
second and there it is a new Master’s
record in history here at
AUST as Jack Nicholas 17 under anytime

Z congratulations thank you
Aron I guess we’re I’d like to keep this
odd and even going for a few years now
he was in contention several other
times we were in competition for it I
remember clear up until
1972 he really thought he had that one
and another one of Arne’s improbable
charges has failed to come off we’re
always so heed up to be each other that
sometimes we we beat each other out of a
golf
tournament just not arie’s day Arnold
was good for golf and golf was good for
Arnold seldom has a player been more
popular or grown larger crowds and right
now every heart seems to be with Aries
with the growing popularity on
television and the growing galleries a
lot of it was due to Arnold palur
because of the way he
played we all loved him for it now on
the tea to the thrill and Delight of
millions of his fans four time Master’s
Champion Mr Arnold
Palmer we all enjoyed doing this
together and we all miss him please
welcome back Mr Jack Nicholas and I just
put my hat looked up to the sky and
Arnold we miss you we love
you the opportunity to put the green
jacket on Arnold was very special to
me I didn’t want to do that too often
because I was competing against him but
I didn’t mind putting on to him one

  1. Thank you for posting this. Brings back many great memories. It is amazing how long ago the heyday of Jack and Arnie was. Where does time go?

  2. Jack was the upstart, chunky kid challenging the king of golf. Arnie was still one of the best and proved it time and again at the Masters. What a rivalry and what a friendship they had! The mutual respect Jack and Arnie had for one another serves as a testimonial to sportsmanship.

  3. Hard to find anything else that compares to the legacy and history of the Masters. Truly unique in any medium – sports or otherwise.

  4. These men are gentlemen and golfing role models! But no matter the score- LIV players should not be here. They got rich on the PGA TOUR, they made the fortunes on that tour, they once got the chance to play these incredible events by playing the TOUR and then they turn around and spit in its face by accepting blood money from an oppressive regime which disregards human rights and executed more than 100 people last year. Role models, ethical values ? Not with LIV players. Money is all that counts – no matter what they say.

  5. A relationship for the ages. Even though they both tried to beat each other's brains out on the course, they had a friendship off the course that was legendary as well. Great video!
