you’re able to play uh yeah I do all my
friends live out there too oh good so
you got a good Crew That’s when I was
growing up that was the most fun was I I
just love to play I wasn’t like a huge
grinder but we had a bunch of other
Juniors out there so we just someone was
always into play you know do they still
have the junior allst stars do you know
it’s like the 13 to 15 year old Division
I played those and then when I was 14 I
was kind of playing more of the regular
ones 14 15 did you play any of those
like Legends junior T like the handn
that’s what I was playing before yeah
I’m in like the stpga ones and then
hopefully I can play in the hand in one
gotcha definitely thought it was a
little better than

starting to get you know walk through
the tunnel and then when you’re out it’s

it’s yeah it is uh very alive and well
in here I mean there’s enough people
where the noise kind of drowns out but
uh yeah it’s uh sometimes hard to
control but you know it’s a part of
it when you make a birdie on this Sol
it’s pretty awesome hopefully make four
of them this week

Association does the Golf Community
shows up and supports each other thank
you for making this happen we are so
grateful for you
guys this is one of the most fun days on
the PJ tour W calendar we do a lot of
events throughout the year there’s a lot
of different charities we go work with
one one today it’s just players and
wives the wives play the guys caty they
give us way more golf advice than we
need they give us like specific yardages
and clubs and we’re just trying to make
contact with the ball my wife hits it
left or right every shot every shot goes
left to right it’s fun to let your hair
down a little bit have a drink and enjoy
you know just a fun nine holes with you
know my wife and obviously some
otherwise we’ve got a great group Scotty
Sheffer Sam Burns Stuart sink and uh
Charlie Hoffman so there’s not a lot of
seriousness going on in our group our
wives are so supportive of us and so
it’s great for us to come out and
support them and obviously we’re
supporting greater cause and we have a
really big platform out here on the PGA
tourament be able to use that to get
back is is huge I’m sorry this thing
this is it’s
done it’s done adding up wardrobe James
oh I like that we’re all in it shoulder
toos shoulder trying to make a
difference and change people’s lives and
that’s what the Thunderbirds do
too on behalf of wies
Association we want to say thank you
guys for what you do in the
community can you imagine the reaction
from this crowd if somebody had to make
a one here

it I don’t think people recognize that
this city this is like a part of the
culture you know we’ve had events try to
do similar types of things but you do
need the culture of the city to be
behind it to make it that great I just
think it is unique to to Scott still
Justin Thomas long with that t-
shot but not worth the chip here we go
again I think it’s great that there’s
there’s one uh one a year because
um they just they do it right I always
enjoy you know the the Baner and and
trying to more than anything try to hit
it close and try to make a birdie cuz uh
yeah they ain’t scared to boo you no
matter who you are they love Justin
Thomas but they love to boo him even
more No One Is Safe from the booze here
on
16 it’s not as fun getting booed but
it’s fun getting the loud the loud
cheers out there you know when you do
something good but you know you pay the
price when when you hit a bad shot to
but yeah it’s definitely a lot of fun
being able to play in front of this many
this many people it just seems to get
bigger and bigger each year you know
just more and more people more and more
atmosphere it attracts a very strong
field because it is such a fun event as
good as 16 is 17 is just as good a ho
you know one of the best driveable power
fors that we we get to play with 16 and
18 it’s one of the best finishes that we
have out here on the PJ

got to take dead aim Here Charlie was at
21 so I knew in the back of my mind I
still need to make at least two birdies
and the number and the win was perfect
for what I need to hit it was a nine
round I kind of started at the 16 in the
background and Drew it in and it worked
out perfect looks like it’s drawing to
it and Taylor is lined up to get to 20
under this is from 5 and 1/2
ft finds the bottom of the hole big huge
birdie by Taylor the birdie on 16 was
huge you gave me a little buff for the
last couple the mission is clear got to
have a birdie knows what he
needs good looking
shot it’s all over it does this guy have
a flare for the dramatic to maybe pull
out this one it was kind of a win-win in
a sense right had nothing to lose if it
missed I finished so second and so I
just G it a
run Nick Taylor has done it
again what a finish three birdies in the
last four
holes to catch Hoffman at the last I had
Good Vibes all week after the starts the
Finish was pretty
dreamlike absolute unreal stuff in the
desert for Nick Taylor another playoff
win Nick Taylor vaults up 51 places to
secure a spot inside the Comcast
business to our top 10 you know making
all the spots by need to is was a lot of
fun and the atmosphere was been
incredible all
week the Olympics and the president cup
were big time on the top of my goal list
so I knew playing good golf would take
care of that I would love nothing more
to to play in those two events and going
ask for better

start one of the most challenging
courses on the PGA tour part of the lore
of Riviera Steve in Los Angeles area
Legends a field of luminaries is here
pursuing a piece of their own tournament
history looking to build on the Legacy
at Riviera Chase Johnson will join the
field as the recipient of the Charlie
siford Memorial exemption which has been
given to minority golfer since
2009 Charlie was my grandfather on tour
he was always there for me he paved the
way for blacks to play in in in the
gameing golf he knocked on the Caucasian
Clause to be able to come full circle
and be able to honor him at this event
where it it started for him it’s very
appropriate I was lucky enough to get an
invitation to the LA open at the time I
got an invitation to play Byron’s event
Mr Nelson’s event Arnold’s event these
opportunities allow you to see what it’s
like to be out here to see was like to
play at this level and then you go back
and you can work on it and get better
but you need have opportunities I think
these kids deserve it and there’s no
better person to honor that than Charlie
Tiger Woods getting the golf world
buzzing Johnson will Tee It Up in a
field that includes tournament host
Tiger Woods who makes his 2024 season
debut on one of golf’s grandest stages
Riviera Country Club which opened up
back in
1926 has stood the test of
time nothing but Stars to be found here
at the Genesis
imitational Riv is obviously special
it’s got a lot of history and it is sort
of a course that people talk about being
their favorite I always love going to
Riviera Riviera so much history held
here it’s just good it’s old school it’s
good it’s not overly long it doesn’t
really suit necessarily one style of
play which is important the architecture
is amazing it’s the best Back N it’s got
a lot of unbelievable holes and I don’t
really think any bad holes you genuinely
wake up every day going man I I’m so
excited to play this golf course it’s
arguably the best golf course we play
all year the way it plays is really fun
and really fair not having any like s of
water hazards or OB or crazy things it’s
very playable and it’s sort of
Timeless that’ll help what slam dunk on
MJ’s birthday it’s really in front of
you there’s no hazards there’s really
not much OB Riv is one of those places
that when you you put on paper it
doesn’t seem like a very difficult golf
course and then you go out there and
play it and you’re like holy smokes this
place is so hard ah this is really fast
coming from up here on the right hand
side look at this how good is this shot
oh my gosh I thought he made it it’s
actually probably my favorite part about
Riv in general is if you move a pin on a
lot of the greens it can go from one of
the easier holes on the course to one of
the
harder oh look at this you’re just not
supposed to be able to do that from
there
you got to hit every club and every
shot you can hit so many good shots out
there and not necessarily get the reward
you expect it just challenges you in so
many different ways I think that’s why
guys like it so much the PO super tricky
leading up to the green got it to check
travel a
little
fantastic you got to hit such great
shots in order to make birdies out there
you can hit a lot of good shots that go
to 20 ft and you walk out there with
another far and then all of a sudden
you’ll get L board and somebody’s
already shot 6 on because they’re
hitting great shots instead good ones
winning score doesn’t really vary too
much as long as Mother Nature cooperates
rev is definitely a special
one teeing it up for the first time at
this special place are some new faces
like ludvig oberg save of the moment
ludvig you are now a PGA Tour
winner and Ben Griffin Ben Griffin has
had a ni nice early start to his career
while Taylor Montgomery makes his second
start at the Genesis
Invitational that great run to secure
his spot in the next Signature Events
and Genesis so keep an eye on these guys
as they try to keep their momentum
going all three earned their way into
the Genesis Invitational via the Aon
next 10 which Awards starts to the top
10 players not already exempt from the
2023 FedEx Cup standings
meanwhile players like Christian Baden
hot and Charlie Hoffman have played
their way into the field via the Aon
swing five which rewards the top five
FedEx Cup point earners this season who
are not already exempt with starts at
Riviera based on their play in the full
field events leading into the Genesis
Invitational only 80 players are in
there to Genesis SOA getting a spot in
one of those Signature Events without a
cut you can really make some he it’s a
huge

deal rapid recovery presented by Surf
Pro the number one choice in cleanup and
restoration Patrick Klay started the
final round of the 2023 Genesis
Invitational in fourth place I’m really
comfortable around here I know the lines
really well and so uh I hit every t-
shot so many times that I feel
comfortable on on pretty much every
te fourth and Strokes gained around the
green for the week Klay parlayed his
experience at Riviera into impressive
recovery
shots can’t Le in the
bunker boy did that have a good sound or
what great shot love the sound of Bunker
shots when they’re good erasing miscues
like they never even
happened up sloping Li not much wiggle
room spectacular
I’ve played on this grass growing up and
played this golf course a lot and it’s
different than any other week on tour so
I’m just really comfortable can’t lay
fire a 4 underpar 67 in route to a top
three

finish what’s it like when phone
buzzes Tiger Woods on
text typically if you look down and you
see it says Tiger Woods it’s kind of the
first one that you
open
tiger is funny one it’s typically
sometimes it could be like hey man like
great effing job
or and I’m being very blunt with it’ be
like what the f did you do on that hole
tiger doesn’t really sugar coat anything
he’s going to tell you how it is whether
you played poorly or you know you played
well I still think it’s the competitor
likes jabbing at you and always you know
say something to make you feel bad at
the end of 2017 um you know my best
season on tour won five times I just
finished winning the FedEx Cup won a
major and one of the first texts again I
had when I got done with tiger and it
was congrats now do that nine more times
and that’s what I’ve done in my career
and I’m like I’m like dude I’m trying to
I’m trying to play my best I didn’t mean
to hit in the trees you know what I mean
and then like typically after that um I
sit there and ask him questions after
you know cuz that’s kind of like an I
feel like it’s an open invitation to go
hey what would you do in in that
situation we need each other a lot I
don’t think he’s very good at it I think
he’s lost his touch a little bit he’s a
little bit older now and I think he’s a
little bit out of the loop on sort of
what’s cool now for younger guys but I
like to needle him a
bunch sometimes can’t get him to answer
and then sometimes you might wish that
he didn’t answer because he won’t stop
and then sometimes he responds at 3:30
in the morning rather than at 8:00 when
you texted him in the
evening it’s cool because he’s invested
in watching he’s invested in the game he
knows what’s going on he’s he’s a golf
fan he’s he’s a nerd he’s a dork he’ll
be the one first one to tell you I
remember one year I was playing Bay Hill
I text him asked him about how how did
he approach this golf course with so
much success you’d be surprised the
lengths that he’ll go to to send you a
text back and say this is what I was
thinking this is what I did and this is
how I feel like you should execute that
going from the 100% competitor wanted to
kill you on the golf course to see that
transition over the last you know 8 10
years giving some of his knowledge and
sharing that with other
players I just couldn’t wait to play
golf after watching him play I just
remember thinking I I want to I want to
be like him and he still is you know my
hero and it’s pretty cool to get to know
him but ever since then you know I just
all I wanted to do was was try to be
like him there’s no ego really like he
wants people to break his records he
wants a dominant few players that go win
most of the events it’s an
amazing wealth of knowledge but it’s
also just neat to I used to chase him
around golf courses trying to get an
autograph you know and now got his phone
number it’s just weird to a lot of
people he is Golf and I think he will
remain that way a lot of the things that
I’m doing with tiger or just the
relationship that we have I feel very
fortunate that we have that relationship
I have to kind of pinch myself or remind
myself sometimes you know that this is
the dude that I idolized and and wanted
to be like more than anything growing up
I don’t think in my wildest dreams I
would ever imagin being a text or a
phone call away from Tiger so it’s
pretty cool the text was um can you call
me and I said yeah I’ll call you later
and he goes no now and that was when he
told me that I was going to be the
president’s co- Captain so um you never
know when it’s going to come and you
never know what it’s going to be but you
dang sure better answer of tiger
