sometimes you win them sometimes you
lose them today we’re looking at those
who lost them and it’s not just about
competition sometimes there are moments
in disc golf that are just really hard
to watch and we have one of those today
as well the saddest disc golf moments of
2024 part one hope you guys enjoy
comment down below which one is the
worst all right let’s get right into
it the year 2022 the player Luke
Humphries the event wakeo on the final
hole Luke humph would be down two shots
and would choose to lay up and not go
for the birdie chance a tough long part
three with a headwind MC Beth who would
go on to win the event would be the one
humph was chasing I was maybe upset at
the time that humph didn’t go for it
because he had a big lead over third
place and he ended up blowing up on the
hole anyways so it didn’t really matter
but what does was that event wakeo 2022
to wo 2024 Luke Humphrey still didn’t
have a win on tour and since coming so
close in 2022 he hadn’t really had
another chance but we returned to Waco
to a 4-day event with the new course
added in and again humph would find
himself with a chance to win the event
final round he would be in the lead
after biring 15 16 and 17 one shot lead
with anela in the clubhouse one behind
and gonur on his card also one behind
whole 18’s along long Par Four uphill
with some trouble after having a decent
Drive here’s humph on his approach shot
not choosing to lay up with the lead
instead he goes for it he birdie or
layup to the left or something make sure
that
par sure an option
going big wide Heiser
here and onto the green and
pushing and it circles around the back
side of the
green and Luke is now getting indication
that it is rolled onto the Green from
the back side after going out of bounds
Humphrey would be left with a throw in
to save his par he needs this because
Ganon bird just put his approach shot
within birdie range here’s
Humphries nice height oh that was so
close really good effort now
he has to wait after that the Heartbreak
would begin to settle in we watch as
Ganon makes the Putt and humph Falls
just short for the second time in 3
years the image of big germ giving humph
a comforting side hug says a lot I root
hard for these guys to get their first
time went on the pro tour and it was
looking like lukee had it and the
storyline of him finally completing it
at w would have been perfect he falls to
Second Place Another close call and sad
loss for Luke humph to set this up we
have to go back in time to when one of
the players we’re going to be looking at
had a pretty sweet highlight 2021
Jonesboro round two hole number five
it’s Ben Callaway after laying up on the
long par three this would
happen in control of everything got
it no
way straight in had no idea that was
coming fast forward 3 years later 2024
and Callaway is in the hunt at Jonesboro
now with the changes to the course hole
18 the finishing hole would be the old
hole number five pretty much the same
shot just the situation has changed two
players would be in the hunt and the
Chase card Ben Callaway and Ezra
aderhold Callaway would walk up to 18 24
underpar Ezra at 23 behind them on 17
would be Anthony Bella also at 23 under
aart until he birdied that 17th so we’ve
got an exciting finish but no matter
what we’re going to see a couple
disappointments here’s Callaway on the
te and Anthony and eliminate Ezra with a
birdie but this is not it Paul this is
going straight in the pond this is too
low it just never had the height yeah he
he didn’t have the height and he he just
pulled it now a few years ago Ben did
throw in from this Fairway near where
the drop zone is Callaway wouldn’t be
able to make it from the Drop Zone to
save his par and stay at 24 under
instead he drops to 23 Ezra would make a
great drive and put himself into
position to make a putt to move to 24
underpar here it is bogy is going to
cost him the chance of the
title to get to
24 and that is incredibly disappointing
another Valiant effort from Ezra ader
hold Callaway drops ader hold stays a 23
under two players who for the last few
years have been contend Enders but
failed to get any wins Anthony Bella on
the other hand has learned how to win he
makes a clean par on the final hold to
secure another win on the dis golf pro
tour ader hold certainly has had more
chances to win than Callaway but
watching this event even without the
commentators mentioning it I was
thinking back to when Callaway threw in
on this hole it all just felt like it
was adding up for him to get that first
win no way Bell was going to win another
one and finishing on this hole maybe he
could secure it this way rough one for
both Callaway and aold who have fought
so hard over the years
this one is a little different it’s not
a choker a close call not a failure per
se just something that happens in the
sport and it’s going to be checked at
the cost of the confidence of one player
during the offseason at the 2024
Memorial something kind of funny would
happen but also annoying and sad and a
whole bunch of emotions Jacob Curtis AKA
cupcake let’s start out round two with
this putt on hole
one Jacob AKA cupcake you’re on the card
[Music]
man I’m getting flashbacks to the round
all of a
sudden very smooth release though U one
thing I will say about cuppy is he takes
a while to putt sometimes and then this
one on hold too mind you one of the
commentators alongside the disc golf guy
would be Aaron go saage who was playing
with cupcake during the
round and I got to this point we’re on
the second hole and I decided to speed
things up a little bit this is at 500%
speed and it came in somewhere
around 52 seconds or 48 seconds whatever
it is he makes the putt just like you
said but it definitely exceeds the
30second limit for the rest of the round
they would pretty much talk all about
cupcakes putting about calling him on it
and how he had to edit down every time
he putts 48 seconds per putt would be
his average time per the disc golf guy
and this wasn’t the end of it on Twitter
cupcake would get flamed a bit and it
did start more of a discussion in
regards to players calling on other
players on their card about time
violations but that’s not what I want to
focus on what I want to look at is
cupcakes’s actual putting and the
implications of this on a higher scale
for him think about all the other
Putters you see pros and amateurs out
with your buddies doesn’t really matter
but think about the Cadence of putting
for the most part everyone is super
similar maybe you check the wind you get
set up and then you putt even if you’re
a slow putter you don’t stand out that
much you’re still for the most part
keeping Pace with everyone else think
about how drastically cupcake stands out
when he’s putting it’s an obnoxious pace
for how slow he is and the way he does
it it’s like he’s having a stroke on the
disc golf course legitimately you cannot
tell what he’s going to putt eventually
he just does it the way that most of the
players set up their putt is in Steps
step one step two and then then it just
flows and snowballs for you to pull the
trigger cupcake doesn’t do that and it’s
kind of awful to watch but there is a
fix to it though like it’s not hopeless
for his actual putting he’s a good
putter when he actually gets it out of
the hand he just needs to switch the
initiation of it some sort of move some
motion that when he does that the putt
starts no matter what it’s like he has
The Yips and he hasn’t made changes to
fixing it but with all that being said
he’s going to be forced to change
because in order for him to become a top
player on the pro tour fans and the rule
set won’t allow that to happen it’s
honestly hard to watch him Putt and
that’s the main reason that he made this
video in regards to players like cupcake
with time I think it’s going to be fine
he’s going to have to adapt that won’t
last long until everyone knows about it
and he starts getting flamed for it
definitely getting c on it in the future
and hopefully it doesn’t hold him back
for caway ader hold and humph both
players who have come so close to
winning but fell short it would be
awesome to see either one of them get a
win more and more over the years I’ve
become a fan of humph and everything he
does for GK Pro and I feel like if he
finally gets that win it would be such a
big deal for the company not just for
him best of luck to both in the future
hopefully they can get it turned around
and get their first pro tour win
