  1. Yes, you can call Rory an Irishman. And, no, you wouldn't offend anyone except a few extremists for doing so. And, for the record, there is no official Northern Ireland flag. The flag that gets used in sports as a Northern Ireland flag was only ever officially the flag of the Unionist-dominated parliment of NI that was dissolved in the 1970s.

  2. When it comes to best ball/best score vs alternating shot there's more randomness in alternating shot (lower ranked players have a greater chance). Don't get me wrong alternating shot requires a coordination between teammates (such as hitting your shots to set up the type of shots your opponent excels at etc), but all in all based on pro results going back you can rarely if ever lay an opponent significant underdog odds and the best example of this are the books matchup odds. Today in best ball/score matchups some teams received +200 odds a handful of around +170 and a lot of +140's but in alternating shot you're rarely going to come across matchups where one side is receiving +130 or more.
When analyzing best ball for example with higher ranked opponents against lower ranked opponents there's more opportunity for the difference to come through with 2 scores over 18 holes, however there's still more randomness than stroke play format. Just like in stroke play format 4 days vs 1. 4 days is going to be more advantageous to the better golfers on average (more opportunity for the cream to rise to the top so to speak). Alternating shot is a fun format though

  3. Such a funny and a great recap today with Rick and Patrick. Nice treat Patrick was on. He normally doesnt do round 1. This was a great day at Zurich but we also had some great action on the Korn Ferry tour in KPs woods. Vertivex Bank championship is played on a par 71 6527 yd course and Frankie Capan was on a 57 watch but he 3 putt his final hole 18 to get in at -13 with a 3 shot lead. They ended today here with 1/2 the teams at -7 or better. Will be interesting to see where the cut falls. Typically a team or 2 would break 60. This is the week for players to do something with Scottie basically on a leave of absence. I would be SHOCKED if he plays PGA considering we dont know when Meredith would deliver. No offense, I kinda dont want Rory and Shane to win.

  4. Yes tomorrows alternate shot could see big changes in this leaderboard. The Novak, Detry, and Mitchell teams could hold T20s come sunday. Agreed, Cantlay/X worth a shot at 10s before alternate shot. Watched a bit of LIV for the first time today on youtube, couldnt believe the music and loud speakers, hideous. I can believe the rumour that Rahm doesnt like it much either. A bit of a circus.

  5. Agree with others

Rory is from Northern Ireland – Northern Island is part if the UK (Great Britain)
Shane is from the Republic of Ireland – which is NOT part of the UK

People for Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland can be refered to as Irish or Irishmen

Rory had a choice whether to represent Great Britain or Ireland. It was a difficult choice as he did not want to offend anyone. He chose Ireland. Northern Island do not have an Olympic team (Neither does Scotland, England or Wales)

For many sports, Northern Ireland and Ireland join up together.

There are sensitivities – so you are probably sensible to be cautious

Patrick – I'd love to know which 12 countries Patrick thought were part of the UK 🙂
