he likes this place good memories what
about Jordan on this Thursday we pick
him up very first hole the par five
first his third you used the word
special several times in that highlight
this is a special shot here out of the
rough Fe it down there nicely to get it
started in the right direction on the
far five first special players deserve
special consideration one under through
one for Speed now is second and
two well if you like that shot back
there got it in the fairways we
mentioned and if you get it there you
can spit back to about 10 ft birdie
birdie start for spe he would bogey five
when we pick him up at the six this for
birdie to get back to
200 yeah he got it just a pin High here
not much in the break dead center and
that club warms up watch out for Jordan
Speed and we go to the ninth speaking of
the putter a short one to save his par
yeah there’s a little flaw sometimes
with these short ones he just didn’t
quite accelerate through I know that was
a little tricky putt but m there makes
bogy drops to one under now is second at
the par
511 yeah 257 yds hold location just over
the bunker got it in the Fairway which
is a big key here staring it down oh it
hit in the rough slows the ball down
nice he a two- putt for birdie get back
to two under now at the par 41 12 his
second from 145 yds and now he’s
starting to feel it a little bit Jimmy
yeah most of the players just lay it up
here Steve like we mentioned you get it
the Fairway you can go right right at it
just a short iron in here this from 145
yds excellent play that would convert
for birdie movement to three under it
also birdie 14 to get to four under par
but then that finishing stretch trying
to save his four here at
16 yeah missed the Fairway and just
wasn’t aggressive enough lost its speed
makes bogey he would also bogey the 18th
finish at two under par what possibly
could have been for Jordan spe but a
good solid start two underpar 69 to get
things going here on day number one of
the bpar championship and after his day
was through he caught up with Kira
Dixon all right two under today for
Jordan SP at the valpar championship I
know you didn’t finish the way that you
particularly would have liked but what
are your overall takeaways from the day
I just gave away um a number of shots I
mean I I I made two boogies with lob
wedges from the Fairway I mean I’m
staring down birdie and um you know
underpar is good on this golf course but
we had um some nice conditions
especially on the back nine when we had
a more consistent wind and then um you
know tomorrow looks iffy so um I I like
the way I drove the ball I just need to
tighten things up from there um coming
off the PLAYERS Championship had a
couple of days off so what is the focus
mechanically based on what you saw in
your game back at the Players I don’t
really take anything from TPC sass I um
I kind of look back to Bay Hill and
think okay what where am I really at cuz
I never really know leaving SASS and um
it’s just same stuff I’m not doing
anything different I I’ve it’s been a
weird year I’ve played well I’ve had
some weird circumstances that have kind
of thrown some results out the window
the last I was the flu and a crack
driver and just random stuff that’s like
um so I’m kind of a little uncertain on
where things are so hopefully I feel a
little more stable this week and um can
continue to shoot under par each round
because if you do um you normally have a
chance on Sunday at this course yeah and
speaking of weird circumstances you also
serve as a PJ tour policy board member
you’ve had lots of business to deal with
off the course you have two kids you’re
also trying to be a professional golfer
what has it been like balancing all of
these things and actually going out
there and competing um I think I think
I’ve done a pretty good job in balancing
everything but it doesn’t mean that that
anything’s getting full attention so um
that’s okay right now it’s just a blip
in time everything that I think I’m
doing I think is I’m doing the right
thing um it’s just uh I’m kind of ready
to come out on the other side and focus
on you know kids in golf um and I think
we’re you know we’ll get
there Jordan Speed Justin Thomas Xander
Schley three of the best players we’ve
seen on the PJ tour over the last decade
or so but when you look at these three
they all have not won on the PGA tour
since 2022 we’re getting nearly two
years removed from Jordan and Hilton
Head not far behind Justin Thomas in the
PGA Championship in the better part of
20 months and change for Xander Schley
and we know the game is hard Jim as good
as these guys are to win on the PGA tour
let’s go Case by case and we’ll start
with Jordan spe it’s a bit of a heads
scratcher that the young man who came
out blazing when he was just a teenager
that is nearing a two-year Mark of a
windless drought what have you seen from
him in recent weeks and months that
might lead you to believe that streak is
going to end
soon oh well that’s a good question uh I
think what we’ve seen for the season and
he mentioned a little bit is
inconsistency I think that’s the
toughest part uh he’s looking for
stability I think you know there’s a lot
of factors in there he’s a dad you know
that’s that takes some of your time
you’re on the policy board those things
like that the distractions you’re not
able to focus 100% because these guys to
be great uh you hate to say it but you
have to be a little selfish you have to
be one-sided to be a to be one of the
top players uh and it’s tough to balance
it the great players were able to do it
Jack Nicholas has done it my good friend
Bruce lisy was able to do those things
in Balance but I think for Jordan he
wants to get back to that consistency
I’d like to see him play like he did
when he first came out uh less
mechanical I think we’re seeing signs of
that where he’s a lot more comfortable
with his golf swing in his game and just
kind of buttoning up some things uh I
think like you said if he gets that
putter rolling you better watch
out

  1. Yeah, I agree he’s trending way down tighten things up last week. He said he needs to clean up a few things like not making bogies sloppy bogies not spraying ball all over the place and or just an average short game and relying on his pun and his pudding is starting to crack also.

  2. Yeah it’s been a weird year for Jordan. It’s called bogeys it’s called muttering all the time after a poor shot analysis to paralysis and the pressure when he lost to Matt Fitzpatrick what was it last year that was it couldn’t get it done had a chance. Sorry dude.
