Shane Lowry details mindset heading into Cognizant Classic final round | Golf Central | Golf Channel
https://www.youtube.com/golfchannel?sub_confirmation=1
golf Central on YouTube is brought to
you by the Paradigm AI smoke woods and
irons from Callaway hello and welcome
into your golf Central update on YouTube
I’m Anna Jackson alongside Mark roling
as we bring you some of the highlights
from the third round of the cognizant
classic it was moving day and Island’s
Shane Larry made a move rol let’s find
him on the par for Fourth of 30 the
short Par Four in and he drains it from
22 ft gets to minus 11 nice start for
Shane and he would slowly but surely
move up this Leaderboard on a Saturday
now on six this also for budie yeah
looked like just another par in the
scorecard but this a really good lag
putt from some 50
ft and anytime you make a four there at
number six here in good shape he stays
at- 11 really good effort from him there
now on to the par 48 of the T yeah this
one is a shrimper right here hooked to
the left there’s some tall sort of wispy
grass over there and his ball ends up
right in it has to take an unplayable
lie so he’s playing his third from here
pretty far back actually 161 yds but he
delivers right here this was the most
important shot of the day I thought for
Shane Lowry hits it to about 4T he would
save par looked like it might well have
been a double bogey from there and he
birdies the 10th after that and gets to
minus 12 did well to limmit the damage
there you’re absolutely right well this
was to save P what happened there Ro he
missed as simple as that PS back to 11
under now looking to make it up on 16
his second yeah this is a really nice
shot too 172 yards for Shane doesn’t hit
it as close as he did a 13 this is no
three-footer but it’s a six-footer and
folks he does not miss that one so gets
to minus 12 and final hole of the day
the power five 18th just in that
greenside
bunker yeah beautiful bunker shot here
car it all the way back almost to the
flag very hard to hit that one that far
back into the green but he does it so
much fun to watch is Shane Larry he is
going to be an absolute Delight in
tomorrow’s final pairing in the fourth
round he sits at 13 under he is tied
alongside Austin ecro and David skins
we’ll get some of their highlights in
just a second but let’s hear from Larry
alongside kir K
Dixon well it’s 5 under today for Shane
Lowry at PGA National uh top the
leaderboard headed into Sunday what are
your takeaways from this third day yeah
I’m pretty happy look I felt like um it
was going to be tricky enough out there
today I felt like if you weren’t on your
game you could get yourself in trouble
and I felt like I managed myself pretty
well around there uh hit a lot of good
shots hold some nice puts and you know
one blemish on my card which was uh a
little bit annoying but after that I
felt like I compose myself very well
coming in especially with those holes
coming in I felt like I played them
really well some high finishes here over
the last couple of years almost winning
in 2022 top five and 2023 what is it
about the challenge of this place on a
Sunday yeah it’s look um even um I
noticed on the 7 green it was getting
quite crusty around the hole there and
that’s what happens here in this place
you know they’ll obviously leave it Go
and it’ll get firm and fast tomorrow and
it’ll be tough to get the ball close and
if you miss the greens it be tough to
get them up and down so a lot of like uh
you know you need to plot your way
around tomorrow pretty well and uh take
your chances when you get them and then
if you get out position just kind of get
TR and get back in position as best you
can and and take it from there but uh
yeah you just don’t know going out here
you just have to kind of prepare as best
you can and give it a go and see what
happens you’ve been looking for another
win on the PGA tour since the 2019 Open
Championship you think about last season
your game heading into the riter cup
lots of conversation about your game how
meaningful is it to you to be in this
place with your game with a chance to
win the golf tournament yeah it it you
know um it’s funny golf’s a funny game
because I I even I haven’t played much
golf since the rer cup um for this is my
fifth tournament I think um and I feel
like the tournaments I’ve played haven’t
played I’ve played okay I’ve been you
know a nearly week in Tory Pines and had
really bad Sunday in Phoenix and uh two
weeks off there and you start to
question yourself a little bit but you
know you still get up every morning and
go to work and give it as best you can
and uh start believing you start
believing in myself a little bit over
the last few days um and when you start
seeing good shots and seeing yourself
rising up that leaderboard it it does
give you a lot of um
you know I suppose satisfaction uh
especially coming into the next few
weeks like we have a big stretch of golf
coming up and it’d be a nice time to
start playing really well and hopefully
this is kind of the start of things to
come appreciate the time good luck
tomorrow perfect thank
you well when you look at tournament
records out of our leaders without a
doubt Shane Larry has got the strongest
his seventh start at this event he’s
never missed a cut came so close back in
2022 just losing out to sep ster Mother
Nature was not on his side and then
posted another top five finish just last
year in
2023 so who will he be playing alongside
with that is David skins the 42-year-old
from England hasn’t made a cut all year
and now he’s tied at 54 holes here on
the PA five there today yeah he
definitely out putted Shane Lowry today
there’s no doubt about that that was
from about 17 ft here he is at 15 trying
to save a par from about 12 ft he makes
that one
[Applause]
and then up ahead at the 16th hole
played a couple of nice shots got it to
about 14
ft and yes he makes another one that was
in route to 26 putts but look at what
happens to him on 18 here it’s an
absolutely terrible shot kind of a skank
I would call it barely gets up in the
air and I don’t believe he thought that
was going to clear the water somehow it
got Into the greenside Bunker little bit
on the UPS slope hits it nice and high
carries it pretty far back into the
green and rolls it to about 2 and 1/2 ft
he would birdie and that’s what got him
into a tie for the lead yeah impressive
stuff his hutter was just red hot today
so David skins and Shane Larry will be
in your final pairing tomorrow on Sunday
down in Palm Beach Gardens Austin ecro
will also start the day tied at 39 under
minw Lee one of the low rounds of the
day getting him right up in contention
but you can see there are plenty of
players within touching distance of this
title uh tomorrow is going to be
absolutely fascinating Ralph uh as I
said there are a lot of Chasers looking
to uh pick up this Hardware tomorrow
what do you think we’re going to see
it’s 13 under but it’s not a big lead no
it’s not and uh if you take a look
there’s nobody at 11 or 12 under par
that’s why I’m not getting off the minmi
train yet picked him early in the week I
still think he has a good chance uh CU
he doesn’t have that many guys to pass
till he gets to those three at the top
right there I think it’ll take a round
for Min wo of something like maybe 65 at
least for him to get that trophy
tomorrow but if you take a look at the
last three players um you know there’s
some question marks with every single
one of them probably David Skin’s the
biggest question mark think it’s going
to be a tougher day for him than the
other two I’ve got a good feeling about
Austin e Road uh Lo’s Lowry is probably
the favorite on paper but I think Austin
has showed me a lot this week I really
like what he’s been saying in the post
tournament round press conferences he’s
got a lot of confidence um he’s been in
this position before when he lost at the
AT&T Byron Nelson it wasn’t because he
played poorly on Sunday he shot 65 there
but Jason day shot 62 and ran him down
an incredible round so uh for some
reason I’ve got this little bit of a
hunch
about Austin e root and I think he’s got
a real good chance to win tomorrow yeah
he’s been really consistent all week
actually was just one back heading into
today and now he’s tied at 13 under you
mentioned it in the show but what is it
about PGA National that lends itself to
give Chasers such a good chance on a
Sunday you know my favorite hole on the
course I think you know forget the bear
trap and the tough holes on the front is
number three I just love number three
it’s a par five where anything can
happen we documented all sorts of
disasters there today and when Dan
Daniel Burger coughed up a five shot
lead two years ago it all started right
at the third where he hit a smother Hook
off the te and wounded up with an ugly
double bogey seven so folks when you’re
watching that final round tomorrow keep
thinking early on about that third hole
that is going to be a pivotal hole in
who ends up winning this Championship
yeah drama drama drama don’t forget as
well Rory maroy will be competing
starting his day at 7 under lots to look
forward to we’ll see you there have a
great night thanks for joining us on
