he’s just Fairways greens and puts this
man so far moves to 10 under this again
for Birdie on 11 didn’t hit a good drive
was forced to lay up hit a nice wedge in
there 15 ft left of the hole well that
moved them all the way to 11 under he’s
looking very good indeed it’s a bogey
free day for Patrick cley as we find him
on the par 4 15th his second and this
was the shot of the day from that deep
rough down that left side over 25 yds he
gets this to chase all the way up there
inside of 5 ft
perfect approach shot there would
convert the birdie and Patrick C would
move to 12 under par well this is final
highlight of the day on the par five 17
for birdie once again now the par five
he was forced to lay up Mr left off the
teag hit a nice wedge in there and paid
it off with another beautiful
partt so pretty perfect round there for
Patrick hlay as he looks for his first
win since August of 2022 and he has put
himself in a pretty fantastic position
he’s leading by five thanks to that
second round at 656 under today McKenzie
Hughes Cory Connor also posting uh a
couple of 65s as well Jason day trailing
uh he’s tied for second alongside loot
list and Hughes good to see him in
contention but let’s hear from our
leader Patrick
Klay do you uh do you like leading or
chasing what’s your oh I’ll take leading
yeah uh buy as many as I can get
Patrick how did you feel about your
putting coming into the week as good as
it’s been what was the like how good
were you feeling about it when you were
coming in yeah well these These are
greens I feel really comfortable on you
know I’ve played the golf course a ton
of times and they’re in great shape uh
probably the best I’ve ever seen them so
if you get them online and get them with
the right speed they’re going to go in
but your feel and and mechanics and all
that in advance of this how was it how
were yeah I mean sometimes you just go
through spells where you make a little
make some more um you know a certain
week than others um I have had weeks
where I’ve gotten really hot with the
putter so hopefully this is one of those
weeks how much of his
attitude um on greens like these I mean
I know they’re as good as they get but
well you’re probably asking the wrong
guy when you made as many putts as I
have the last couple days so it’s easy
to have a good attitude on the greens
what what uh what club did you hit on on
15 and and uh four
iron do you get impressed with yourself
uh very much and was there anything that
impressed you today about the way you
played outside of your putting I would
say the two shots I hit from the rough
on 12 and and 15 were pretty special uh
they were both cut four irons and they
just kind of came out of the rough
exactly as planned and and rolled out
released exactly as planned um it
doesn’t always happen coming out of the
rough but uh those were two great shots
I I played today and then ballpark how
much did you play here um while in
college we played here quite a bit uh my
sophomore year the NCAA championships
were here and being just four or five
miles down the road and we played uh we
played quite a
bit I mentioned he’s tied the largest at
36 hole lead here at the Genesis the
last man to do that that was Sam Burns
back in
2021 ultimately finished third to Max
Homer Ben Hogan of course always known
as Hogan’s alley this place got a great
record uh he had a full Straight Lead
back in 1947 and he did go on to win so
who knows Patrick kle could be in a very
good position position heading into the
weekend his game seems to be firing on
all cylinders Brendon I know you had the
chance to catch up with his coach Jamie
migan today what did you learn about
sort of how they’re approaching his game
at the moment yeah Jamie’s always very
generous with his time and his
information and well he pretty much said
to me Patrick loves this golf course he
loves traditional golf courses not
enough can be said for that and as far
as what they’re working on he said you
know they’ve been working together for
24 years now so obviously Jamie knows
his golf swing in and out any time
anything gets a little bit off they go
straight back to basics said that’s
where they are now he said they feel
pretty good with everything just working
over a little bit of the basics he also
said that Patrick feels like he’s
rounding into a little bit of form and
well that’s very obvious from these
first two rounds yeah it’s not like he’s
ever really dipped in form I mean last
season wasn’t bad by any means he didn’t
win but he did make 19 of 21 Cuts he had
a couple of runner-ups 10 top 10 so the
consistency was there he just didn’t
quite get it over the line but what we
saw from him today looks like someone
who really could go in and win this
weekend oh very much so you know it’s
one of those games that there’s no holes
in the bag and uh we’re about to see
some shots right here that’s uh that’s
going to be evidence of
that this just an unbelievable shot from
20 23 yds out of the deep rough on the
right side I understand there’s an
element of luck there you don’t know
exactly how that Ball’s going to come
out but lands it in the ideal spot and
gets it to chase up there within 10 ft
of the hole and ultimately missed that
but just a fantastic shot from that
right
R and well if you thought the one on 12
was good this is even better from 215
yards got to carry it just over that
front deep front bunker again lands it
in the ideal spot gets it to chase all
the way back there to within 3 ft and
well he would go ahead and tap that

in then how about moving on to 11th up
on the green well he is number one in
approach and he is number one in putting
so those two together are always going
to be a recipe for some great scores and
well a uh a big lead that he’s going to
take into the weekend yeah that’s right
and don’t forget his secret weapon as
well Joe L Cara is of course on the bag
who’s won twice at Riviera when Freddy
Couples won this event back in 1990 1992
so he’s got a lot of experience uh with
him by his side that’s got to be a bit
of a bonus oh very much so any any time
you’ve got a got a caddy on the bag
that’s had some success at a venue it’s
a huge
bonus
