Sam how’s it going hey Adrian how are
you good to meet you it’s good to meet
you man that thanks welcome to NE Beach
know what a what a place yeah first time
here so that’s nice to you know discover
a new place absolutely been here for a
few days so let’s get after
it hi guys my name’s Sam you may
remember me from the president cup where
I was right there for the greatest in
the
game
over the last year or so I’ve had the
great Fortune to work with some of the
game’s best it’s truly been a dream come
true and you know what I’m still
dreaming thanks to PGA Tours the cut I’m
here in Jacksonville Florida an area
known for its layback Vibe incredible
beaches and worldclass golf courses and
Jax is now home to PJ tour rookie Adrien
Dumont chassa who recently moved to the
Sunshine State after wrapping up his
senior year in Illinois welcome to PGA
Tour the cut presented by
surpr Adrien deont shazar is a winner in
his professional debut welcome to the
corn fairy tour welcome to professional
golf so uh why did you decide to move
here uh in Jacksonville as opposed to
you know anywhere else in the country or
you know D Jupiter or Arizona or
whatever and for a couple reason I mean
you know the weather’s really nice and I
feel like it’s not easy to find a place
now where you can like play and practice
for free okay and I’ve heard a lot of
great things about TPC Sr that’s
something that I remember when I was you
know a kid playing tiger 2005 in the
course all the time and I also know
there’s a bunch of tour players and cor
fa players are here right so it’s it’s
always easy to find people to play
[Music]
with so I’ve done a little bit of uh a
little bit of research on some good
places to come and uh this coffee shop
is supposed to be a good good spot so I
thought we come in here have a little
have a drink yeah have a drink and maybe
snack if you want sit down and have a
yeah I’m I’m not a you know I like the
little cool
Brew looking back so 6 months did you
have a picture yourself having a PJ tour
card that soon no I mean to be honest I
was like my go when I was in college to
just get that cor free carard right yeah
to finish in that top five um I did that
and then I know once you get on the corn
you only have 10 STS right and other
players have played already 10 12 before
that so I was like okay I’d be great if
I can finish in top 75 and just keep my
car for the year after and worst case
I’ll just go to Q school and try to get
my C either on the PG or for FY yeah but
just the fact you know that you’re going
to have no matter what 10 starts you
know it’s pretty reling feeling and yeah
this just more an unbelievable feeling
to get my card this quick yeah cuz you
have to earn those points pretty quick
right you know like say St you thinking
about it but then once you know I won my
first one and and finished second I was
like okay that there’s something I can
do here and I just kept playing solid
afterwards and locked up my car pretty
quickly so that was that was a really
good feeling are there any areas that
you’re kind of looking to improve on in
the in the offseason my short game used
to be really solid now I still need some
work especially my Bunker play okay uh
so that’s may be good that we go on the
beach and work on it a little later
right yeah cold with the half that’s
fine thank you very much thank you thank
you appreciate
it all right there we go Cheers Cheers
yeah are there any players on on tour
that you’re uh that you’re particularly
looking forward to playing with being
paired with I mean paired you know you
always hope to play well enough to get
paired with like Rory and like Sheffer
and all those guys you know that are top
10 in the world cuz you get to learn
learn a a lot just from just playing
with them um but then just practice
around just playing with like D Tree uh
Nick Hardy just kind of get to learn
from them and the fact that I know them
very well is always nice you know that
way I can ask questions that I probably
wouldn’t uh ask to like other players I
don’t really know as well right so it’ll
be nice to just have them around all
right Sam ready to go hit some Burker
shots oh is there a course around here
no no but we have one of the largest
sand trap in the world over there um the
beach yeah all right let’s do it yeah
let’s do it let’s go all right Sam do
you want to go see which wed you want to
use you know I’m left-handed right are
you all right we’re in trouble then
[Music]
we going to do closest to the pin bu the
next round of coffees next time we see
each other all right let’s do it which
place aiming for let’s go that one right
there like the second one okay that’ll
be our Target okay so you’re righty are
you actually Lefty I’m a lefty yeah oh
you’re actually Lefty I’m actually left
yeah so I’m going to try is not going to
work I’m going to try it like this know
right might need a new wedge after this
but okay hey you hit the ball I mean
that’s
something there you go
I said 100% Improvement that was pretty
good see that was nice ball
flight it’s not a Fair competition
firstly I’ve got to go up against a
professional golfer secondly I’ve got to
play with my wrong hand I’ve got to play
with not even my own
clubs a little you need something in the
middle of those two you think this slop
he comes back you know yeah yeah has a
beach here compared to the the beaches
back home in Belgium much better right a
little warmer yeah it’s nice to some wh
in right I mean we can go to the beach
back home in Belgium but yeah probably
2our drive and it’s a little cold
yeah I’m going to go Lefty like you that
way it’s fair yep that’s fair I can’t
complain to that I mean we don’t want
too good of a lie right but there we go
we’re going to that Pole right there
right I’m going to hit it I’m telling
you oh a little thin but thin you get
room to work with yeah
okay this is there’s a lot of pressure
on this shot I feel a lot of pressure I
want that cold brew do you get back home
to Belgium much nowadays or um I mean
for Christmas all the time when when I
was in college it would be twice a year
so I’m we in winter break uh now it
really depends on my schedule so of
course okay all right now the pressures
on ad that’s real pressure right
now forget trying to win on tour this is
real pressure
oh come on do it hit it
oh made it that’s a great
job that’s so good and you are you
actually knocked into mine and you’re
still closer closer yep that would have
gone in if there had have been a hole
there
yep thank you man it’s been good fun
thank you for spending time with us good
time the weather was perfect right it
was got to work on the bur bunker game a
little bit the bunker playe needs some
work yeah that’s I mean it wasn’t easy
with right rightand Club well you you
know but next time you have to come
whoever you play with left-handed clubs
I’ll try to do that yeah that’ll be fair
that’ll be fair thanks for your time
today all the best in your first season
on a PJ tour appreciate it I’m looking
forward to that first win me too all
[Music]
right allawa golf course this is where
my golfing journey I guess started yeah
I used to come here as a kid you know
this this parking lot is full now it
used to be full then you know people
camping in their cars getting ready for
you know for the doors to open normally
opens at about 4:30 you know so my mom
would drop me off right here grab my
clubs walk up these steps and uh wait
right in front of these double sliding
door here um yeah and once once it was
4:30 you know it’s kind of like if you
picked your waste management but in
Hawaii people start running down this
hallway um to try and secure the first
[Music]
spot gosh like I’m getting I’m getting
like the Goosebumps and everything
looking at the the golf course all the
local people here they talk about the
spirit of loha and there’s no better
place to find it than right
[Music]
here oh there he is there’s my
coach it’s my coach first coach um Lara
I’ve learned everything for you know
about golf from from this man right here
it’s been a really good journey and yeah
it’s cool for him and I to be standing
right here and looking at the golf
course yeah this is is it this is this
is where it all
started there were times where me and
Coach Les we’d be on the other end of
the range Hing balls and we come out
here to putt and Chip and man this is
this is crazy just just looking at the
driving
[Music]
range his mom and dad played golf and
the kids wanted to learn so that they
could make it a family
affair the first lesson he was slice
[Laughter]
shank oh not
bad yeah no more Shanks
right no more Shanks album
of all the young kids around chance time
and pictures of them when they were 11
12 years old and yeah a lot skinnier
then yeah and uh I even
have articles about
him doing well at Arizona State but this
one is when he was still in high school
he has the disposition and very good
self-control his attitude was golf 7
days a week if he wasn’t playing he was
practicing I predict great success for
him he’s made me a
[Laughter]
prophet
I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you
for my parents the success is great but
the more important part is like who was
there along for the journey that’s what
makes the success even better of
course my last prediction is he’s going
to make the
[Music]
cut I
[Laughter]
hope as is so often the case at the Sony
Open we’ve got a playoff threeway
playoff it’ll be Keegan Bradley Grayson
Murray and Ben
on Grayson will go first with his birdie
try every time Grayson Murray has been
up against it today he’s been able to
pull it off but this by far appears to
be his biggest challenge I think a lot
of things are going right in my life
right now and I’m at peace I was at
peace with a 40-footer in the playoff
wow Grayson Murray’s done it
again sometimes it feels like it’s meant
to
be I’m a sucker for some some good
celebrations I love making big time
thoughts and Big Time moments and um I’m
never going to back down from a
celebration what a week that he’s proved
to himself that he can win out here
again after being seven years without a
win on the PGA tour sober now for 8
months he’s been through all sorts of
personal issues I anxiety and to get to
this point again he’s come a long long
way it took me a long time to get to
this point that was over seven years ago
and I’m a different man now my story’s
not finished uh I think it’s just
beginning and I hope I can inspire a lot
of people going forward that have their
own issues with the victory at the Sony
Open in Hawaii Grayson Murray moves into
the Comcast business tour top 10 for the
first time since October
2017 Eric Cole 35 years old who was just
named the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year
great story at his age really really
impressive it was one of my goals I
wrote it down but uh you know it kind of
comes with doing a lot of little things
right and you know it’s a long season
and a lot of tournaments so I was much
more focused on the week to week and
then you know it’s kind of a byproduct
of having a good consistent year what a
great shot that was yeah that’s going to
be his first birdie of the day
it’s a huge honor you know it’s voted on
by you know other players on tour so to
get that from them is is really special
and cool you know it’s a long year I
played a lot of tournaments and felt
like the second half of the Year
especially was very consistent and it
was cool to be up there on some leader
boards and
stuff oh and he’s got it 70
ft I think for anyone to win an award
named after Mr Palmer is a huge honor
but for me it’s definitely more more
special just because I was lucky enough
to spend time around him when I was
young and a lot of great memories
playing golf and hearing stories from
him is just something that like I said I
was lucky to have it and it makes this a
winning this award so special there’s so
many great golfers and a lot of them
tend to be younger guys they have a lot
of ability a lot of talent they hit it
far you know they’re so refined now to
be able to win Rookie of the Year at my
age is definitely
cool he is so straight he hits it really
nicely we got to play together a few
times and obviously Eric has had an
unbelievable year and and you know he’s
a great player really good players um
what strikes me is his putting is really
good then he hits it very straight and
those two together is going to equal low
scores he’s got a lot of short game
fantastic short
game played a Jem oh yeah come on my
short game and putting were very good um
so I think that definitely helps uh you
know it’s hard to hit the ball well all
the time so it’s nice to have that to
rely on when you have a little bit of an
off we T green even when he’s not
playing the PJ tour he plays golf
literally about every day guy loves it
boys he turned into a rising start it’s
an awesome thing to be in all the
signature events for next year and just
to be a part of those is awesome and uh
looking at my schedule I’ll probably
still play a lot probably not quite as
much as last year but I’ll play quite a
bit um just cuz it’s such a cool thing
to be out on the PJ
tour rapid recovery presented by surfpro
the number one choice in cleanup and
restoration at the 2023 American Express
Xander shafley recorded a top five
finish thanks in part to his Stellar
short game shafley finished the week’s
second in Strokes gain to around the
green and no hole tested his ability
more than the par five
16th absolutely
must get it out first that is priority
number
one oh
wow so
good that is as good as you can do from
down there absolutely
superb pitch it on the green a little
bit of spin he avoided the bunker on
Sunday but still converted an up and
down on the way to the low round of the
day very nicely done
he’ll have that putt 10 under on the
day you want to be a little bit closer
to try and win this golf tournament but
you know I’ve seen guys shoot 61 60 62
so you just got to be one of those guys
on Sunday unfortunately it was
[Applause]
me we’re here at Maui off-road
Adventures my wife’s in the passenger
seat I’ll be driving so we’re going to
go check out the trails and have some
fun got to buckle
[Music]
[Applause]
up this would be really fun to have with
the
farm oh he’s getting away from us oh
that’s
slippery oh my gosh hold on oh my gosh
oh my gosh I I look down I look
down don’t
don’t I’m just keeping up with the tour
guides you don’t need
to you have to admit you I’m driving way
more reasonably than you probably
thought I would wait
I’d love to scare you but I’m not going
to be that guy that’s so mature of you
that’s
right we good to get out out guys we’re
going to plant the tree here
okay what we’re going to be planting
today is going to be a native Kaa tree
this is a rainforest tree that’s endemic
to the state of Hawaii here these guys
grow about five to six feet per year for
the first five years shooting up for
light on the rainforest you have to work
for that light so these guys are going
to rise up you know five to six feet per
year got to make sure it’s straight we
want it to grow straight to the sky once
they’re in the ground mother nature
takes care of them and we’ve got a
really high success rate there we
go it was awesome you know just to be a
part of I think it’s really cool that
they plant a tree on every tour that
they do just to be one of the trees is
really cool and they’re trying so hard
to rebuild it so it’s really cool and
hopefully we come back and see the
difference that it’s
made I’ve heard a saying um you know the
best time to plant a tree was 30 years
ago the next best time is now so someone
will get to you know reap the benefits
from that with as many trees they are
planting it should make a you know a
difference in the future which is uh
awesome to be a very small part
of my favorite part of the day was
driving up the Steep Cliffs narrow
trails and then getting to the top and
seeing the views my favorite part of the
day was once we got to the top um just
overlooking the ocean you can really see
the differences in the colors and just
unbelievable to see all the different
Islands from that point of view it was
breathtaking always right
[Music]
there back in Maui for the first time
since 2016 and back in the PGA Tour
Winners
Circle this was very unexpected to come
off that break
where I spend a lot of time in the gym
and I spend a lot of time working on a
mental game I love the work that it
takes to try to be the best version of
myself I think to be successful and to
really enjoy your life as a PJ Tour
player you’ve got to love the
work a rice bucket is just for finger
hand wrist strength so I just kind of
dig my hands down and just turn them
back and forth
started training a year ago and I think
uh the biggest thing that we do in our
training is I want him to feel like an
athlete in everything we do I think a
lot of golfers are really good at golf
but the athletic part of it just moving
controlling your body doing different
things is something we don’t focus on
enough it’s a lot of just isolated
rotational movements that are purely
tied into the golf sling I don’t like
golf workouts a lot of the time in the
gym over the years has been purely just
cuz I felt like I needed to do it and
not really something I enjoyed that
much but being able to come in here you
know we’ve made it a really fun
environment I usually pitch about twice
a week something like that
y oh no it’s debatable if there’s any
actual benefit other than be my personal
enjoyment and just doing something
that’s at athletic like I think that
like he was saying earlier I think
anything that I can do to feel a little
bit more athletic and work on hand eye
and form and wrist strength and all that
there’s a lot of timing there’s a lot of
just like movement patterns that you
have to be consistent with I think the
grip strength forearm strength all that
stuff is a really I think it’s a really
underrated thing in golf and that’s
something that we we spend a lot of time
focusing on training to me is is uh
preparation for the future um it gives
me a great sense of mental Clarity and
and just puts me in a good mood to be
honest obviously what we’re doing in
here is something that’s building and
working towards a goal but it’s somewhat
relevant if I don’t enjoy the process of
of what I’m doing and and uh thankfully
we’ve gotten into a spot where I really
do thanks for watching the PJ Tour on
YouTube to watch more click here and to
