Jason Day’s Clothes Make a Splash at the Masters

In the 2024 Masters golf tournament, Jason Day chose to wear an attention grabbing vest from Malbon Golf. Day signed with the apparel company at the beginning of the year, and has been turning heads, and pushing the envelope of what people are used to in the golf world.

Jason day since the beginning of this
year Jason Day last year a Nike athlete
wearing the more modern fits of clothes
I say modern as of I guess
2023 moves over to malbon golf at the
beginning of this year and um I have a
video queued up from a guy named custo
who does um a lot of sneaker content on
Instagram and Tik Tok also a golfer but
he he he says mediocre golfer
but he does a lot of culture and and
content around the culture of golf so I
have this video queued up Jason day in
the the malbon gear look at this would
you look at this seriously I need y’all
to look at this what up sneaker friends
if you don’t know this is Jason day he’s
a professional golfer a former number
one professional golfer so he’s a really
good golfer and yesterday he wanted to
wear this malbon vest at the Augusta
National Masters Tournament but was
asked to take it off by someone at
Augusta National being the respectful
person that he is he took it off obliged
with the tournament because it’s all
about the game and all about the
tournament but by them asking him to
take it off they make it about him and
it isn’t just the vest he wore baggy
pants one of the days during the event
and the announcers were infatuated with
his pants because he decided not to wear
something that was tight and that is
just fascinating to me and it’s not just
the people that austa National it’s golf
media in general even like the folks at
bar stool Sports I’m looking at you rigs
make comments about what he was wearing
not how he was playing not how he was
doing in the tournament but what he was
wearing and to be fair this happens all
the time I’ve been to private clubs
where they required me to tuck in my
shirt because they want to keep up a
certain appearance and that appearance
is a whole different conversation I
guess the real question is is why is
this a threat to you why does this
bother you so much what is it about the
game that you feel you’re upholding by
stopping people from being
thems so I don’t know so I don’t from a
cultural
standpoint I don’t have a problem with
the Malon golf kind of changing the look
of golf that’s not it the big logos I
think are kind of lame I’ve never been a
big logo person so I thought the vest
was just kind of tacky same with the cut
of the pants I don’t even mind baggy
pants but this doesn’t look good to me
like and it’s not even that you know he
says oh he didn’t wear tight pants we’ve
seen Jason day wear the same kind of
baggier pants but cut differently these
were just waving in the wind
particularly the ones that wor on
Thursday so I get where he’s coming from
and I get that golf is changing and
evolving it’s kind of like I know you
get you have beef with untucked shirts
or I think you you’re okay more
tolerable with the untucking of shirts
but like jeans right so is that you know
that there’s certain things that just
kind of every individual is going to say
is pushing the envelope of what’s
acceptable or not you know traditional
enough for golf what you think of that
commentary man
um I’m not going to say it’s unfortunate
but that is uh that’s a different angle
than I was expecting out of a gentleman
like that now me personally as a fellow
black man in
golf
I get like you trying
to really push the boundaries of what
golf should look like because we’re
pushing what golf should look like and I
get that that’s cool but like just like
what you were mentioning the thing with
malan is is it’s ill fitting it’s not
the malbon golf connection it’s not the
collabs nobody’s dissing malbon malbon
is very you know very fashion forward
very 2024 in the moment and it’s cool
but like a lot of this stuff is just
ill-fitting like Jason day just tailored
the bottom like just taper the bottom
and do the parachute up top slim it on
down at the bottom you know get a little
ankle cuff something I don’t know but
like yeah hold on let me pull this up
from Joshua at first I thought the pants
was a r GE I thought so too and then he
wore a similar

the I’m like what is going on bro bro
yeah like the vest stuff like nobody’s
commenting on number 313 and stuff like
that it’s just ugly like it’s just not
good that’s my thing but as far as the
dude and his Tik Tock and his and his
Lane that he was going at with that bro
if you at an I mean you go to any
establishment they gonna want it to flow
a certain way and look a certain thing
it’s up to you to conform or not if you
don’t want to go to these nicel looking
es then so be it but if you I agree with
that that’s all I’m saying if you want
to step up that level then sometimes you
gonna have to fall into that until you
reach a different level like you know if
you Michael Jordan Michael Jordan even
him he’s still going to these courses
tucking his shirt in looking nice this
is Michael goat Jordan 1.9 handicap
golfer you know what I’m saying he’s
still performing look if you go to your
local mun you’re not going to see the
same restrictions and standards um you
know where they’re like Tu in your shirt
you know they may ask you to wear a
collar hell I’ve even gone to the course
that’s down the street for me here in
Dallas it’s Keaton golf course it’s like
the most chill laidback golf course you
can walk out there in
some like some Bermuda shorts and a
t-shirt and you’re good
you’re fine but if I you know I’ve been
lucky enough to be invited to some
country clubs we’ve we me and Marcus
have this discussion going on in the
background about how expensive these
membership fees are for a country club
look that’s where people are going to do
business they’re paying hundreds of
thousands of dollars over the lifetime
of their membership and that the
standard is different right so when you
go in certain environments I think there
is a certain decorum and dress code to
where you go right I think if you look
at comparisons of um major golf to let’s
say major like tennis at Wimbledon what
do they wear they wear white the the
outfit is more formal when you go to the
Masters it’s all about the tournament
the respect it’s it’s the Green Jacket
you know all the legends that have come
before you it’s a different environment
when you go to the PGA PGA champion ship
open um it’s a different environment
there is a different level of respect
that each one of these tournaments hold
so when you’re operating in that
environment you kind of have to be you
know go according to that that’s all
that I think
again the Jason day trying to break
different barriers and do different
things I’m all for it but you also have
to know like hey bro you could have done
some killer within the master kind of
you know themes but just done it a
little bit better so um yeah I don’t
know man it’s
just I I get it but I also know that
there’s boundaries that we all have to
play Within in certain environments so
anyway right which is comedy to me is if
you look at his sponsor his title
sponsor on his shirt I mean not on his
shirt on his hat it’s D wal so to me
he’s going to me I just like he’s going
full dad mode and I probably have talked
about this too but I just feel like he’s
going full dad mode he’s going relax fit
you know he’s going sweater vest you
know just a nice little layer over the
top you know just you know he’s in Ohio
too so you know he’s got the an he’s got
the the he’s got the accent working now
but I think with the dev Vault sponsor
and the malbon sponsor he’s just going
full dad mode so that’s the only way I
can find a justifier it’s a bit of
mismatch cuz malbon’s fashion forward
let me ask you this is there
someone on the PGA Tour live is there a
professional golfer that we see that is
more fashion forward that would fit what
Jason day is trying to do because to me
Jason day was actually the epitome of
kind of the Nike type athlete which is
you know you’re you’re athletic um you
are you know the the more um yeah
tighter Cuts fit you because you have a
more athletic body which Jason day has
gone through different Transformations
but he has also remained athletic
throughout his career is there a more
fashioned forward golfer that you think
would fit malbon I have one in my head
it’s super random probably not popular
but I have one who would you say would
fit into that
mold into malbon
yeah that’s a better personality fit for
more fashion conscious golf
Weare maybe like a sah tagala or
somebody young like that or maybe like a
axe
baa but to me fashion forward yeah you
know but to me fashion forward if I
could get the bladed collar of Rory and
the joggers of a AE or a JT that’s as
fast and forward as I need to go okay
yeah that’s not your thing right so here
here’s who I’m thinking as somebody bro
we are

in mind that is kind of made a

the popped collar different cuts he’s
not necessarily always wearing huh he
wear white pants and he wear tight white
pants
uhuh I don’t know I I get with what
you’re saying but I don’t know I I just
the big logos I don’t know maybe you
just leave that to the AMS um who knows
I just I don’t know if we have someone
currently that fits what mabon does I
don’t particularly think it’s Jason day
yeah that’s just my opinion on that I’m
I’m glad someone’s trying to do it I
mean we have a lot of golf Brands out
there um you know on the africanamerican
side
LPGA Charlie Hall remember she’s making
it look decent but she’s she’s honestly
when you look at Charlie hle she’s
wearing fashioned forward very fashion
forward you know you she’s she’s out
there out and about socially I don’t
think we have a PGA golfer that is the
equivalent of a Charlie Hull that’s
young and just kind of is into design
and and different things like that so we
we’ll keep seeing this story Jason day
is not the only one that’s going to be
doing this so hopefully I think a better
profile of player comes along that more
fits the mold of what he’s trying to get
out wait one last thing also even Roger
still tucks his shirt in at ni Golf
Course
