PGA
tour now make it
[Applause]
eight welcome to PGA Tour the cut
presented by
surfpro I felt that this script today
was was already written I just I was
going to go give it everything I had
whether that’s I shoot 75 or 65 or 70 I
just I was going to go get everything I
had how about the story here final group
you got a couple of guys 20 wins between
them Sam Burns Justin Thomas playing
along with the amater Nick Dunlap just
the sophomore at the University of
Alabama has not been intimidated all day
long oh yeah what a week it’s been for
this young man what a day 5′ 9 in here
from a piece of
immortality history in the desert for
the first time since 1991 and Amer has
won on the PGA tour Nick Dunlap wins the
American
Express wow it is so cool to be out here
and and experience this as an Amer and
if you would have told me that you know
come Wednesday night I’d have a put to
win this golf tourament is I I wouldn’t
believe
you just kep saying pressure is a
privilege and he never
folded we have a 59 watch going on with
Adam hadwin of Canada I didn’t go up to
linaa thinking I was going to shoot
59 I knew he was playing well and you
know Instinct I guess just kind of takes
over and you just kind of roll with it
see if he can handle the pressure of a
59 oh I guess how about that how about
that
folks I think everybody talks about you
know they were in the zone and I think
that’s kind of what happened out there I
was thinking about it I knew exactly
where I was I knew exactly what I needed
to do it just didn’t seem to
matter to be able to do it when I needed
to I mean I know I was nervous you know
P barely went in on 17 I only had 6
[Music]
feet unbelievable performance at Lita at
his list to the 59s in PGA Tour career
history I was happy to see the putt drop
on 18 and the last thing I wanted to do
was Miss A three-footer for 59 so I was
more relieved than anything walking off
that
green whether it’s to shoot 59 or win a
golf tournament you’re going to need
some luck and you’re going to need some
bounces and you’re need some breaks and
it’s just whether or not you can take
advantage of them today I
[Music]
did currently Adam hadwin sits just five
spots outside the Comcast business tour
top 10 thanks to a T6 finish at the
American Express before teeing it up in
linta he tested his sand saving
skills unfortunately I have dropped it
down here left of the 16th green at the
stadium golf course and I’m going to
take a shot for you I’ll see how it goes
I’m just planning for worst case
scenario come tournament time here so
I’ve done everything that I could to
help myself out here I gave myself a
nice uh uphill lie in the bunker perfect
I’m going to use a 56 because I’ve got
to get the ball so far out of here a 60
yes the Loft gets it up but I can’t
carry it far enough to get it on the
green so I’m going to go up a club and
uh let’s give it a
[Music]
shot oh go
[Music]
in thank
you and that right there ladies and
gentlemen tells you tea up your fall on
the
[Music]
F waiting for the go
ahead stand
here keep
[Music]
[Applause]
going
how sweet low and slow I mean no matter
what the plane is just seeing the Air
Force aircraft gives you
chills yeah pretty
awesome a 34-year-old Air Force Academy
graduate he fulfills a four-year term on
active duty for the United States Air
Force before returning to professional
golf and after five seasons on the corn
fairy tour this proud father of four is
heading to the PGA tour for the first
time we all would like to thank him for
his service from Dallas Texas Tom
[Music]
Whitney long 9year journey to get here
lot of UPS Downs in the M of
that I knew this is going to happen but
this with my brother not W but being
able to share this with me so
um yeah are are still tears of joy but
um I’m I’m missing back he can’t be
here carrying the memory of his older
brother Bob who he lost to Suicide four
years ago Tom Whitney made his PGA Tour
debut in a place where they both learned
to love the
game
coming to the tea he’s formerly from L
California now Little Elm Texas please
give a warm welcome to Tom
[Applause]
Whitney we had a great relationship it
was just me and him we grew up playing
tennis together grew up playing golf
together and you know just so many
memories of of me and Bob at the driving
range and that was what we did me and my
brother practiced golf Non-Stop and I
think instantly we both kind of had a
natural feel and talent for
it from age 9 to age 17 I lived here in
linaa and spent almost every hour I can
remember working on Golf and really good
place where me and Bob got to hone our
games Whitney followed his brother to
the golf course and eventually the Air
Force Academy where they both played
Collegiate golf
it’s really cool that we got to overlap
for two years on the linta high school
golf team and then we got to overlap for
two years on the Air Force Academy golf
team as
well my senior year I spent a good chunk
of time in the top 25 individual
rankings and I think it was at that
point that I I truly knew like okay I’m
going to honor my commitment to the Air
Force I’m going to finish that out and
then I’m going to give golf a
go four years later than most Whitney
turned
bouncing between PGA Tour Latino America
and the corn fairy
tour there were setbacks but spending
four years as a nuclear missile operator
tends to give you a different
perspective a bad day on the golf course
honestly is really never a bad day I’m
getting paid to play golf on Amazing
golf courses and great weather so it was
just a really big perspective shift
obviously there’s a lot of maturity that
comes from being in the military seeing
things through not quitting digging down
to the depths to accomplish something
that I I didn’t know I could go that
deep it all incrementally adds up and
honestly it just kind of makes the game
a little simpler out here it doesn’t
make it easier but it’s a lot less
pressure when I’m out on the golf course
in 2023 Whitney recorded two top three
finishes in his first five corn fairy
tour starts and held a spot in the top
30 on the season long standings from the
second event onward you see the fist
pump that shows you exactly how much it
means I already have a sense that I
belong out here and honestly it
shouldn’t be any different than corn
fairy because it’s still the same game
that we’re playing Just bigger stages
more eyes on
you I would love to just focus on secure
in that 125 early but at the same time
honestly I should probably shoot for the
moon and focus on getting my first PJ
tour win out here and you know if I can
just put myself intention multiple times
this season I think I’ll achieve all the
goals I need to the 34-year-old rookie
joins Kyle West mland as the only
current air force veterans to earn a PGA
Tour card it feels like I have the
entire Armed Forces rooting for me the
fact that I could serve my time in the
Air Force and then transition over to
this job and and have success is really
cool Max Homer has become a Force in the
world of God
last year was a blast it was a great
season and honestly a lot of fun too his
first year on tour he could barely make
a cut made only
$188,000 the self-doubt crept in he
conquered
it he made a birdie in front of Cam and
Lacy at the 72nd to win a big
one it’s a million times more rewarding
to see them behind the 18th green he has
no idea what I did but I I will tell him
this story at nauseum and he will
probably think I’m the worst this will
be my Cory dad story that I tell every
Thanksgiving and now when he signs you
only need three letters he’s
Max and he’s the champion of the Farmers
Insurance open and now he finds himself
in the upper echelon golers on the PGA
tour Max H has seized a very prestigious
title on this West Coast Swing he’s the
king of
Cal it’s nice to win up and down the
state of California and carry that La
logo uh both on my head and in my heart
yeah four of the six in California his
names up there was a star studded list
of this Elite PGA tournament field two
of one here most notably of course tiger
and his
Excellence you get probably like an hour
or so of enjoying it and then you start
thinking and worrying about the next
season I have a great perspective
towards uh my love for this game and I
just kind of always remind myself you’ve
seen the darkness enjoy this enjoy the
beauty of it everybody out here’s got
their own chip everyone out here’s got
their own story everyone out here has
their own
struggles the Farmers Insurance
Invitational young upstarts and season
veterans still Chasing the Dream mindful
of those who blazed the trail before
them Marcus bird 25-year-old from
Washington DC finished third here one
year ago when I lock in and when I do
the right things I can compete and I can
win winner of the apga Farmers Insurance
Invitational the Sunday at Tory ponds
shout out to the good Folks at Farmers
that have been supporting these players
those companies are the reason why the
apj tour is possible the reason why I’m
able to even play on that tour and be
able to continue to pursue my dream it’s
a mini tour that’s designed not not only
anyone can come play but also for
minorities who do necessarily have all
the tools and the Necessities to get to
that next level you get the same
challenges that you’re going to face on
the PGA tour playing some fantastic golf
courses Balter Tory Pines valala TPC
Scottdale really getting a taste of of
the highest reaches of this game you get
to get familiar with what it looks like
the layouts how it feels to be on these
same grounds how it feels to be a
professional this tour is becoming more
and more well known and we’re seeing
these players able to to take the next
step that environment the farmers
creates is just incredible and it’s
something that I definitely wanted to be
a part of now that I’m having the
opportunity man I’m just super excited
you know I do want to go out there and
play well but just knowing that the
support that I’ve had from the farmers
people from the very beginning seeing
how much they’ve done for us and how
much they’ve really tried to impact the
game of golf and diversifying the game
it’s just an honor to represent them and
be a part of it it’s going to be
incredible time it’s going to be an
incredible event and uh I’m going to
have my friends and family there to
watch rapid recovery presented by serve
proo the number one choice in cleanup
and
restoration Max hom began the final
round of the 20123 Farmers Insurance
open five shots off the
lead I think I do a good job when I’m
behind at one shot at a time and knowing
that it’s a marathon is hard to win I
know that i’ I’ve done it fortunately I
think when you are behind chasing it
almost eases you into just one at a time
and and make everybody beat you and just
play a good round of golf and see what
happens look at
this that is some serious touch right
there what a shot from Max hom he
catapults up to eight on your car nice
way to scratch your first birdie onto
the card an early birdie chip in on the
third hole kicked off a championship run
that included seven birdies to just one
bogey erasing the third round stroke
deficit like it never even happened for
his sixth career Title Max Homer another
win on California
[Applause]
soil before teeing it up at the American
Express Tony F now checked out the local
food scene in
lint hi how you doing C honey how are
you good morning I’m doing great nice to
see you welcome to Chula thank you so
much thanks for having me absolutely
have you been out this way before I have
not I’ve not been here I’ve heard
nothing but great things I got out of my
car and I smelt around and I knew I knew
we were at the right place good good
well we’re happy to have you we have a
lot of things on the menu to offer you
today and a lot of different types of
food I came with an empty stomach so I
knew my assignment well we’re going to
feed you but you got to cook first first
all right what does it take to run
something like this a business a
restaurant I’m sure it’s it’s not easy
uh you know it was an idea and I never
knew how much was going to go into it to
get it going let a lot of local support
which I still do and that’s really the
foundation of our business I can feel
the passion and the pride from this and
uh it’s give me a little bit ofum
chicken skin a little bit of Goosebumps
I love that though I love hearing
stories of startups and yours is
incredible I have an apron for you okay
yes I was going to say I don’t want to
come back there until I’m all ready we
want sure you get your good clothes all
messy nice and tight you good all right
good let’s hit it let’s
go it’s actually my dream to be a chef
no honey that was back back when I was a
kid at least when you were young I loved
cooking I always love my mom’s cooking
and watching her cook my grandma
watching her cook that’s what that got
me going is it’s my mom’s house that was
everything to me yeah because that feels
like home right that’s right smells like
home and just Happ to be living my dream
now for for one
morning I usually like to have like all
the tickets like right in front of me so
I can kind of direct the crew yes I this
is a farm Bowl got turkey cheso grilled
tomato and then we Char the tomatoes and
then the egg goes right on top and then
it’s going to get balsamic on it sweet
potato yeah sweet potato hash you’re
going to take that balsamic glaze and
you’re going to drizzle around here
three or four times on top of that cheso
okay how’s that it’s great everything
leaves the window always has like our
little signature so we use these micro
greens are grown locally for me from
Cella Valley you’re going to pick like a
nice nice bunch and you’re going to just
Crown the top of that egg and then a
little chili oil goes on top of that
just to give the egg a little color and
a little additional level of
flavor okay so then that ticket and this
are going to go in the window okay and
you’re going to let uh Jen patio 31 you
just put it here Jen patio 31 Jen patio
31 how’s that yep that’s perfect do you
get like an increased volume of people
during this week yeah we will I love it
good food good golf right that’s right
Golf and food equals happy life yeah and
then that egg goes on top of that little
avocado okay slippery it went down into
the sand right that’s right I did four I
should have only done two no you need
four babe we’re in the weeds we got to
move in the weeds let’s move
it are you in the kitchen at home a
little bit a little bit yep more
grilling than anything else chili on
this one or no yep chili oil both of
those and then uh you’re going to run
that to a table okay we’re going to
table 13 Tony table 13
13 here you go thank you so much you’re
welcome P to did you actually make this
PHA fresh certified so there you
go I’m making a dish for you right now
want to make me some chilas are you okay
with with a poached egg yep okay so
we’re just sautéing the onions
underneath there with grape seed I got
the chips on top of it this is a pulled
pork that we cook like 6 hours you know
does take it all AP marinade my mom
always told me whatever I make you eat
so no
allergies wow that’s for you this looks
yummy W’s warm everything goes out in a
heated dish is there a proper way to eat
this or so you want to cut that egg and
just let everything kind of flow down
onto it there you go yep let all that
beautiful yolk come out and then you
just shovel it in perfectly done thank
you so much so glad you’re in the
kitchen with me today than for having me
oh you make you made my job easy so good
so good thank you I appreciate it number
one
right
Tyler McCumber playing out of the major
medical extension category this
season it was just starting to get
rolling too really was playing some fine
Golf and then just could not get away
from the
injuries I have uh had a shoulder label
repair a posterior and also a hit label
repair
posterior after earning his PGA Tour
card in 201 19 Tyler McCumber began to
find his footing during his sophomore
season on tour which included a
runner-up finish at the 2020 Coralis
punana championship before his career
was derailed by injury forcing him to
withdraw from the players in 2022 and
pursue medical
options I had both of my surgeries out
at Sten clinic in Vale so they took good
care of me out there I spent a lot of
time in Colorado with their whole team I
spent most of my time feed up probably
four or five months of healing uh with
the two surgeries being spaced out it’s
not my first time coming back from an
injury so I was aware of some of the
mental and physical pitfalls but um
physically was thrown a couple curve
balls after had a little stress reaction
in my SI joint that I’m dealing with
still when you play sports it’s just
your body’s never going to be
perfect gets the party started right
with a birdie from downtown pumping a
little energy into the house as Tyler
McCumber it’s been challenging my body
feels very different golf is a game of
feel versus what’s real and getting a
good grasp on your awarenesses of what
you’re doing versus what it’s feeling
like that’s always the challenge within
the sport but with the surgeries it’s
been even more but you know worked
really hard getting those back I was
really nervous at the Sony Tee It Up For
the First Time it just had been so long
in that course with those cross winds
get a little intimidating when you don’t
have any good shots to really recall
from
competition obviously my goals are
incremental um but getting healthy and
starting back on tour was was a big goal
checked off the list I just tried to do
a really good job of staying in the
moment and focusing on what I could
control each day but um I am pretty
ambitious I do have big goals for myself
in this career but I’m going to chip
away at them each day if
not
