want to play Junior till he’s 20 he’s

guess seven multi-point games in the
last nine for kko 16 points in those
nine games games nine goals in nine
games seven assists to go with and C’s
lost 10 15 points and then everyone’s
going to [ __ ] about it because all the
games don’t matter so now he’s playing
well is that kind of the uh I wouldn’t
go there I I think I’m not going there I
thought I heard those rumors those
Rumblings no I think you know what it
probably just changes the conversation a
bit because when when you looked at kco
is very streaky and you know he had some
games where he’d show up and then You’
see large swaths where he didn’t look
interested this is a really really good
run for a guy that um has vastly
outperformed Elias Lindholm since the
trade and was one of five pieces Craig
conre got and that you have to make a
decision on in the next year he’s a free
agent essentially next summer well I’ve
already made mine Can I submit something
to the group please do it is my
understanding and I’ve had some
highlevel discussions oh that apparently
when kzco came to town he was quite sick
a viral type of thing that he was
dealing with so when he was being
healthy
scratched healthy
scratched he wasn’t as healthy as you
might be led to believe they call or
upper body injury he was actually quite
sick and wasn’t feeling good until
recently and now obviously the
production is speaking for himself but
and you factor that into new team
Comfort level feeling better line mate
too linemate doesn’t hurt and now you
talk about now again so I just wanted to
throw that because I do believe um the
this from the team yeah he was actually
he just wasn’t very wasn’t feeling great
yeah and they said they were consistent
with that the whole way I think it was
more the conspiracy theorists right um
now you said it changed the story a
little bit Ryan back to you well he’s on
an over 40 goal Pace since he’s arrived
in
Calgary and it just something about it
was so weird that a guy as a rookie
albeit 27 or whatever he was could score
39 in his first year in the NHL like
guys don’t come from other leagues and
score 39 in the NHL ever this is why
does it matter who you’re playing with
obviously it matter saying it was
because he was with
Pon a lot of guys play Le Patterson the
last 10 years that have got nowhere near
39 goals and none of them have been
rookies 10 years he yeah okay I I was I
wasn’t being a Dinko yeah I I just mean
like look leas Patterson plays next to
two guys every year how many have got 39
as a rookie zero um he’s the only guy
kusco plus zero I don’t think there’s
any debating the skill level like it’s
he’s a special t yeah and and so that
guy
somehow Rick taka didn’t want on the ice
before he got sick uh in at certain
instances this year and that’s just that
feels like a red flag and when you
watched him when he wasn’t 100% to your
point Dean you can kind of put a little
more weight in that red flag and now
when you see him with codrey on a nine
game heater where he’s over a point and
a half per game looking like their most
dynamic player and a power play suddenly
come to life now you’re putting less
stock in that red flag and saying it’s
all fit and look look at here they just
had too many bodies there um so I I just
I’ve over the course of these what since
he got traded at the deadline two months
in
Calgary we we’ve been on a bit of an
emotional ride on how you feel about the
guy because of all these things that
have changed that point you make is
exactly what I was thinking is so what
happened in Vancouver with talk at the
start of the year so if you take last
year and his impressive of performance
and then what we’ve seen here over the
last however many to whatever it’s been
since the trade deadline for the most
part when does one outway the other what
we didn’t see and just what we’ve heard
is speculation and healthy scrap or you
know reduced ice time with tet and how
much stock do we put into what we’re
seeing with our own eyeballs and what
took place a year ago one is starting to
there’s there’s more in one of the of
the buckets than there is in the other
if you ask me especially when youor in
the rookie year right Dean so have a
year and a third where he’s looked like
a dynamic offensive player with a rare
skill set in the league and then there’s
two-thirds of a season like ah I didn’t
look like get along with the coach and
somebody’s in the chat and I think it’s
what everybody would agree you wish he
was younger because or had more term on
his contract yeah oh yeah fair enough or
he had because it will be a you talk
about discussions that we will no doubt
be having what do you do with this guy
and I know you’ve used the you know the
pump and dump you know give him ice time
give him opportunity and then trade him
yeah and and I said it last week at the
same time this team has been devoid of
high level skill for so long yeah now
you’ve got some how old is he he will be
30 on his new deal he his 28- year old
season this year be 29-year-old season
next year so that would be my concern is
that is he part of the age group that
can help you move in no and if you’re
were going to trade him you would be
adding someone that would join that age
group um like if he’s gonna let’s say
you’ve got him on a 40 goal Pace uh next
year as you head into the deadline
that’s a very valuable piece and so
while I think kusenko is a great player
and the type of player that teams should
try to go get there’s also teams that
he’ll be more valued valuable to in the
final year of a contract before his UFA
like that’s that’s an attractive rental
for a team that loses a Winger that can
score maybe the offensive Productions
dropped just a bit you’ll be able to
chew contract you’ll be able to eat some
money and it’s also a situation where to
your point Dean the Rick toet experience
looks like maybe potentially the outlier
not half of his
resume and so you could keep him and
he’s a good player but if he’s a good
player that means you probably get a lot
for him if you trade him next year yeah
you’re it’s you start to think big
picture now when when things are good
what it never you know don’t make
decisions when you’re super pissed off
or you’re too high or too low right this
is not the time plus they’ve they’ve got
all kinds of time it’s yeah what it is
is it’s it’s fun to watch he’s an
exciting player that they’ve that
they’ve not had for a while and yeah he
and codre they’re dangerous out there
and they’re making things happen it was
a again I don’t know what you call last
night’s game it was a bit of a rodeo at
time 11 goals blown leads was three the
over like kind of all over the place but
for being this late in the season it was
a fun game to watch they get a win it’s
kind of whatever but
um I I I do feel like it’s a pump the
braks thing even though there’s nothing
else really for us to talk about right
now it’s it’s a great development it
gives Connie more options if this guy’s
playing like [ __ ] exactly what you hoped
for when you traded for totally when
when we were in Toronto at All-Star
break and they made this trade and the
pieces sort of fell out into the public
space one at the time it was Kenco and
then it’s going to be a first and then
all there’s probably a conditional pi
and then oh there’s this bruevich kid
and oh there’s another Finnish
defenseman or Swedish defenseman as well
um you know the thought was okay like it
has him in a good fit under tet there
could you restore some value in kusco
and then you’ve got the choice of
signing a good player or trading a good
player and that’s happened yeah it’s the
best case scenario hey you know what red
you’re exactly
right that’s what we said because on on
on the Vancouver side it was being
framed as a salary dump and here it was
well maybe it could be a bit of a
Reclamation project yes and get back to
this to the level that he was playing at
before and then he’s an asset however
you want to use it whether you’re
keeping them or trading them or whatever
so so far so good yeah and for those
that are like saying sign them sign them
sign them let’s say the Flames are
competitive when The New Rink opens and
that feels quick that’s a pretty quick
turnar around that’ be fall of 2027
you’re talking about a guy that’ll be 32
33 is like are you sure what you have at
that age like that those are the years
where scorers start scoring less and
players go into Decline and at certain
positions be it a power for or physical
defenseman you just might be done that
that’s not necessarily the match in the
window and that that’s sort of the
Counterpoint to he’s great he’s the type
of player you want to sign him if you
got time you use it yeah and they have
until the deadline next year essentially
they will definitely use it they will
definitely use it any is there any kind
of sadness towards the coyotes being
done
just seeing the jerseys and just the
this it’s sadness it’s disappointment
because what a spot to play Scott still
what a spot to go watch a game if you’re
a fan you know and from out west it was
a people did there’s people that flew
down to Scottdale and went to games like
it was part of the the hockey trips yeah
we got to go golf and watch Flames game
short term it’s probably a little
disappointing but big pitcher it’s going
to be way better they’re going to be
back there with a less shitty owner in a
real rink like it’s just probably going
to take three to five years bu that
aren’t going to be around are you’re not
going to be around three to five years
geez there’s no guarantees out there no
there sure aren’t and I guess there’s
not a guarantee that they do go back but
it does feel like everyone close to this
is saying they’ll be back I think it’s
also part of how they’re gonna extract
this team from the hands of Mel is to
say oh no no no like you can have the
team we come back if checklist and they
know he won’t be able to complete the
checklist that’s I think the understated
part of this is getting this Mel out
he’s a total clown right because if it
was a if it was a reputable owner they
wouldn’t be in this spot in the first
place let’s just assume that the the
owner is well healed and is a a good
businessman there’s a rink sitting empty
in Glendale you know that’s the one
thing you’ve not heard anywhere along
the line is insane is there no way that
the NHL can go and broker some sort of a
deal and just keep M there’s as long as
that Mel is involved yeah there’s
they’re just done with them and I can
you imagine they’re gonna have to the
league have to pay a billion dollars to
this guy now what do the rest of the
owners think of this guy oh I think
there’s a thought that some of them
would be frustrated that he’s going to
make out like a bandit after being such
a bad member of the club so to speak but
remember they’re all going to get20
million doll split amongst the 30 of
them not including Vegas and Seattle
they don’t get relocation fees I don’t
believe because they’re new to the club
but each owner will get a check of let’s
call it like 7 million bucks and hockey
related Revenue goes up you you remove
the Laughing Stock Building the laughing
stock owner but but again to to make no
like Min no words about it if this
billionaire in Salt Lake lived in
Arizona that’s your optimal scenario
it’s a better Market than Salt Lake it’s
the owner that’s the issue because the
owner doesn’t have the Goodwill to get a
building done and no one wants to do
anything with this owner he can’t get
[ __ ] done they got voted down in Tempe
you know the mayor is already against
his proposed land purchase we’re going
to buy Scot he owes the city of Glendale
Millions like nobody wants to do
anything with this cat you got to get
rid of him and if you have to leave
Phoenix to come back later to get rid of
it that’s kind of what the League’s you
know [ __ ] we have to pay a billion but
we’re getting 1.2 for it in Sal Lake and
we’re getting this [ __ ] out of the
club it’s a good spot to be in you
you’ve put yourself you’re so
undesirable that someone’s going to pay
you a billion just go away just to leave
yeah just please give us the keys back
to the thing here and leave yep it’s not
bad we talk about quarterbacks or guys
getting you know quarterbacks that sign
big deals and don’t play or guys get
bought out and sign down in college
football that might be even tough to
beat a billion that’s a
b yeah and he’s probably lost a lot on
the way but he’s more than whole at that
number gez oh yeah he’s not W he’s he
might be down a couple hundred million
at the most and he’s making probably six
700 on 5 to 600 on the transaction nice
yeah let’s do that and for the league
it’s like you can’t just say we’re going
to buy it for 700 Ottawa just went for
950 their job is to keep franchise
values as high as possible that so
crucial to Gary you always hear it so
it’s like well we have to pay this jerk
but it’s good for everyone’s franchise

what do we got this week for the Calgary
Flames I don’t know if there’s much else
to talk about from the game it was a
very exciting game I it was it was a
good game

exciting it was a fun game because good
game as far yeah entertainment value
entertaining and I think the fears of
like this these last three weeks being
just awful like they haven’t really
transpired they’ve worked hard they’ve
lost close games and like they win and
it’s exciting like they just haven’t
been a lot of stinkers I was at the 5-3
loss to Anaheim it’s kind of a stinker
yeah stinker yeah was it five big
Anaheim got six well I don’t I’ll be
honest now that you bring that up I feel
like you’ve short changed
us if there’s one thing we know it’s
that your attendance guarantees shitty
hockey and losses you could have help us
and you could have been down there and
you you were selfish don’t you want
teach first

buddy they got one more home game I mean
I don’t think I’m going to
Vancouver no I’m not sure about Thursday

we’re lucky to have him he’s awesome col
yeah and to be fair like
these when you’re mathematically
eliminated and you got lowly Ys coming
through lesser broadcast teams would be
much harder to watch they these those
two done a great job this year
not good what were you GNA say about Rob
Ray well he just that he’s been dealing
with it in Buffalo for oh yeah even
longer 13 years to be exact and uh not
an easy so does he get to do playoff
games when they make it in the third
over those 13 years
or yeah what kind of P like how is that
going to affect that poor bastard’s life
like if they make the playoffs like you
can’t set it in stone or like you can’t
you can’t plan your vacations his annual
April 20 T time has to get canceled yeah
yeah the hell 13 years man oh God don’t
do that here please 13’s a long time
it’s a long time yeah it’s a long time
and just final thoughts on that I’m not
taking a r at Kelly love Kelly and I
think that he and Rick you can hear the
C you talk about chemistry you can hear
the the chemistry those two guys like
each other and you could tell and it
sound there’s something about their
broadcast that I do enjoy we are very
lucky as a regional broadcast to have uh
two broadcasters of that caliber yeah um
I will say one thing I’m starting to see
and asked and tweeted about and just the
conversation around Dustin wolf is oh is
he not look at six goals he can’t be a
starter in the how many games are we in
his career like 20 people are really
want to make up their minds quickly
about the rest of his life he’s not
playing 20
games 10 maybe like I think yeah he’s
probably two 10 last year and yeah one
last year and nothing until you know a
couple injured marks from spells and
then Theo go down but everyone’s in a
rush to to figure out whether he is or
isn’t well and you’re right and we do
try to and a word of caution it won’t be
if he does come in and play like Patrick
Juan they win the cup next year wow okay
that’s well then you can go ahead and
put his name in the hall way to go yeah
it takes guys time more than likely he’s
gonna come in and be at best average
next year yeah like that’s probably what
you could hope and pray for and that’s
how it goes for most guys that end up
being very good number ones like marsham
cleared waivers in his mid 20s
guys like this this is one of the
reasons I I still have a tough time with
high draft picks on goalie because he
might be a great goalie but it’s usually
the second or third organization you got
to force tough decisions on waivers and
contracts before these guys are really
number ones a lot of times I would it
would be great to go you probably know
it more but go look at Saros in
Nashville that would be the packed up
Rene forever but he had backed up
forever and that’s how you get good in
this league is you play lots and lots
and lots and he’s not going to have an
NHL caliber Decor in front of him uh for
a while here so it’s just going to be a
tough grading environment he’s never
going to grow another three inches and
it’s just people are they he’s not big
enough he’s not big enough and now it’s
confirmation bias everything they see is
he’s not big enough a bigger guy would
have stopped it was like well have you
seen Jacob markstrom’s numbers since
they traded their best defensive pair
like they’re not nearly as good as they
were before wolf needs to be a top 10
when he’s 25 30 like that’s so you like
and it’s just like oh yeah Jesus I me
one like well how the [ __ ] would you
know he’s played how many games in the
league you never know about any of these
guys then people that want to buy stock
in the wolf isn’t it stock you know if
that’s what then then you’re gonna you
get down the road and if in fact he
turns is not a not a top 10 not a number
one NHL goalie then they’ll come back I
knew right from the start you could tell
in year one or whatever then fine you
you can do that but to judge him right
now just based on the D he’s playing
behind and watch you watch those goals
that went in last night now maybe some
goalies get them but the Gunther shots
are terrific goals I mean that it’s not
making excuses but we’re all thinking
the same thing as you watch Wolf because
we’ve all got him under the microscope
right now goal goes in okay well should
he have had it how quality of shot was
it would would marstrom have had it
would uh hellu would somebody else have
had it yeah there’s just so much now
he’s not going to get any bigger that’s
the thing and I you do I think if
anything he’s he’s relied on his
athletic ability so much and he’s so
good at coming across I almost feel like
sometimes he’s doing too much he almost
overplays Puck a little bit because he’s
having to come he’s so used to having to
come over I think he’s going to be just
fine I don’t know that we’re looking at
Patrick law to your point but I also
think that you you can’t judge it based
on what you’re seeing right now it’s the
end of a season the decor is no good
yeah the effort is 80% he has uh he
started 14 games this year he started 15
in his career I’m surprised of that I
mean it’s low number it’s the last three
weeks really but but I mean for people
to say well I know what he is like no
you don’t because if you did you’d be
working in the NHL trust me you don’t um
like you know we watch kri price who’s
one of the greatest goali of Our Lives
sit and watch Yaro hak play in the
playoffs for the hals yeah they were
moving him to Philly they were moving
him to Philly because he was no good
like these they’re goalies guys remember
like you know shurin and soken maybe two
of the best in the league they don’t
come over until they’re mid 20s if
they’re Dustin wolf they’re still
playing in the K and like you know
Carter Hart was the bloody air appearent
and obviously he’s not playing anywhere
right now due to the 2018 uh lawsuit or
court filings or whatever you want to
call it proceedings but like that’s a
guy that never reached stardom and was
taken very very high Spencer Knight he
was his teammate at two World Juniors uh
