ABOUT THIS VIDEO

The Vessel Player Air golf bag is the lightest full-featured Vessel bag yet. It retains all of the high quality features you’ll find on the Vessel Player IV, yet does so while shedding nearly 2 pounds.

But is this the best walking golf bag of the year? How does it compare to the Jones Rover Stand or the Stitch Airwalker? Watch this Player Air review to find out.

if you’ve done any research on a vessel
golf bag you’ve likely heard a whole
bunch of good things super high quality
materials it looks great the strap
system is awesome the Rotator base is
great and keeps your clubs from getting
jammed but for all the good things
you’ve heard there’s a good chance
you’ve also heard one very valid
critique and that is waight vessel golf
bags tend to be heavy golf bags compared
to other bags The Vessel bag is probably
going to come in 1 to 2 lounds heavier
than competing models from other brands
in part because they use such high
quality materials so if you’re someone
that always carries your clubs and
you’ve been put off by the weight of a
vessel bag then today I’ve got something
really exciting for you and that is this
this is the vessel player air and it’s
the lightest full-featured golf bag
vessel has ever made I’ve been excited
to get my hands on this for months and
now that I’ve got it I’ve been able to
put it through its Paces I’m going to
tell you all the things that are great
about it as well as one big thing that
isn’t great about it and this might be
big enough to keep you from buying it so
if you’ve been waiting for a light
vessel golf bag then keep watching I’m
going to tell you all the good all the
bad and help you figure out if this is
something you should buy with that let’s
do this thing first up let’s get the
disclaimer out of the way if you click
any of the links below they are
affiliate links so I will get a
commission on that if you think that
makes me biased or if you don’t trust me
because of that totally understand it
you can just go to vessel bags.com find
this bag for yourself and completely
bypass that affiliate link I will not be
offended but if you did get some value
out of this and you do decide to buy
this bag or another vessel bag clicking
that link allows me to continue to do
reviews like this so I hope you’ll
consider it with that let’s get on to
the review yes let’s go all right so
let’s just jump right into the first
impressions of this The Vessel player
air and as you might expect the first
impressions were great uh one of my big
concerns with this bag was that they
were going to get rid of all of the
high-end touches that make vessel vessel
and the good news is they in fact did
not do that so assuming you get the
six-way divider this bag comes in just a
hair under 4 and2 lb add in the strap
and it’s right around 5 lb so it’s
definitely not the lightest bag out
there but it is significantly lighter
than any other vessel bag and for most
people that is well within the realm of
a bag that you could carry day in and
day out looking at the bag it is vessel
through and through it looks very
similar to the player 4 which is a good
thing you have similar layout with the
rangefinder pocket you always have you
know you’ve got the magnetic cooler on
the side you’ve pretty much got all the
same Pockets that you would normally
have including the valuables pocket up
here right here and this is that’s going
to be the issue we’re going to talk
about in a little bit we’re going to get
to that but uh as far as layout as far
as build quality as far as materials
this is excellent so the biggest
difference you’re going to notice
between this bag and the other player
series bags are the material that the
bag itself is made out of so this uses a
super strong nylon called Corda uh
whereas the other player series the
player 4 the player 4 Pro that’s going
to use a synthetic leather that feels
more robust is very nice it feels very
luxurious hence the high vessel price
tag but uh with that you also get added
weight so this is also very high in
material but it feels and is much
lighter so while you don’t necessarily
get that like substantial luxurious
feeling that other vessel bags have you
get kind of a different luxurious
feeling in the sense that this thing is
spelt it’s light yet they still have
touches like the leather top handle
which I love it’s best in the business
you’ve got the carbon fiber accented
handle here the carbon fiber legs and
they still have the Rotator base which
works great this base helps make sure
that your clubs don’t get jammed and
they can easily get removed from the bag
when you’re using them on the course so
my player air I got with a six-way top
it also comes with a 14-way top although
the whole point of this bag is to save
weight to keep weight down the 14-way
top adds an extra half a pound and so
for me I think the six-way is the way to
go all the way around I personally
vastly prefer the six-way on all my
vessel bags in the player erir
especially because we’re trying to keep
that weight down from a performance
standpoint carrying this bag is great it
uses their equilibrium strap system
which basically you put it on like a
backpack and it just of self balances it
just works it’s one of the best strap
systems out there I will say the straps
themselves they do feel a little bit
thinner than they do on the player 4 and
the player 4 Pro um they’re still very
comfortable but they don’t feel quite as
robust and they are in fact just a
little bit lighter so again vessel
making some changes to keep the weight
down on this bag and because of it the
straps don’t feel quite as high-end as
they do on some of their other bags but
the equilibrium system is still pretty
much the same and so while the padding
is more robust on those other models you
don’t NE necessarily notice it on this
because since the bag is a little bit
lighter than those other ones you don’t
need it to be quite as thick I love that
they have the included Rangefinder pouch
right up front also something I didn’t
realize was a big deal until I was
testing out some other bags that also
have Rangefinder pouches is I appreciate
the fact that this has a loop here so
it’s easy to just kind of grab like no
matter what you’re doing it’s like easy
to get I’ve used other bags that just
have a small pull tab which while it’s
still easy to open when you’ve got that
it’s not quite as easy as just just
being able to put your fingers through
and open it it makes getting your
Rangefinder whatever you put in here
very quick and it’s one of those touches
I didn’t appreciate until I started
reviewing other bags that didn’t have it
hey quick side note are you still not
sure if this is the right bag for you go
take our 30- second quiz you’re going to
answer a couple questions around what
you’re looking for in a golf bag and I’m
going to give you my best recommendation
based on your needs you can click the
link below you can do it while you’re
even finishing watching this video so I
recommend you go check it out I think
it’s going to be super useful all right
back to the video so if you’ve watched
the video up to this point you may be
thinking well yeah this is a no-brainer
you get all of the cool vessel stuff for
a little bit less money than the player
series and a whole lot less weight so
why wouldn’t I just go out and buy this
bag well that brings us to the problem
the one big problem I have with this bag
and it’s enough that I would maybe
consider going a different direction and
that is the zippers the minimalist super
thin tab here looks great the problem
comes when you’re using some of these
and you want to easily and quickly open
up one of the pockets and so when the
bag is fully loaded so when these
pockets are fairly heavy and there’s a
little bit more weight and you’ve got a
little bit more tension you don’t notice
it as much but if you’re really trying
to minimize the weight and you’re
keeping a fairly empty bag then some of
these zippers like you got to do just a
little bit extra to get them to work
properly you can’t always just pull down
and get a Torque sometimes you can
sometimes you can’t um but that is my
that’s my biggest complain
now for some of you you may be thinking
yeah no big deal I’ll take an extra 2
seconds I’ll unzip it it’ll be fine and
that’s great I you should do that for me
if you’re on a golf course and you’re
someone that tries to go back and get
things from your bag quickly you want it
to be quick and easy and painless and
during the rounds that I’ve played with
this bag it just has gotten in the way
just enough to make me kind of annoyed
so over time the more rounds you play
with this bag the more you’re going to
kind of quickly learn you know what you
need to do to make the zippers work
properly it’s going to become second
nature it’s it’s probably not that big
of a deal and for all of the other
amazing things that this bag provides
that’s a trade-off that a lot of people
are going to be perfectly happy to make
for me personally because I don’t carry
my clubs every single round a lot of
times I use a push cart I’m probably
willing to take on a little bit more
weight for a bag that just works a
little bit better for my needs and so
what I would do is go for the player 4
Pro dxr so the dxr stands for Diamond
rip stop it’s another Super durable
high-end nylon that they use on their
player 4 Series bags and it’s just a
slightly lighter weight version of those
other bags that being said it is
definitely not as light as this one so
if weight is your primary concern then
this is going to be the one you’re going
to go with but considering it’s probably
a pound and a half difference and as
long as I’m not just like doing what I
normally do and throw a whole bunch of
crap in my bag the extra weight from the
dxr really isn’t that big of a deal when
it comes down to it it’s also a little
bit tricky because there have been some
excellent lightweight golf bag releases
this year the Jones Rover the air Walker
from Stitch both of those come in a
little bit lighter than this bag and
have much lower price tags granted
neither of them feel as high-end as this
and if you like the vessel aesthetic and
all the stuff vessel brings to the table
those aren’t necessarily going to
replace it but if you’re kind of brand
agnostic and you want a lightweight
carry bag that’s not going to break the
bank you might look at some of those
other models okay so with all of that
said what are my final thoughts on this
bag honestly there is a lot to love you
get the vessel aesthetic you get the
vessel build quality you get that
functionality you get the durability you
get it in a lightweight package as long
as you can get over the zippers and the
fact that they’re they can be a little
sticky this is a fantastic bag it’s also
a little bit less expensive than the
regular player series bag so if you want
a vessel bag and you don’t want to break
the bank and you want to save some
weight this is an excellent option but
if you don’t necessarily care about the
vessel brand and you just want a
lightweight golf bag that you can carry
that’s going to look cool then both
Jones and Stitch have some awesome
options they’ve released this year and I
will link to my reviews of those below
with that being said My overall pick for
the best my favorite golf bag on the the
market it still continues to be the
vessel player 4 Pro so personally I
don’t think I’m going to switch from the
player 4 Pro to this but I understand
why a lot of people would so that just
goes to show what I think of vessels as
a brand what I think of their products
they really are top tier Next Level and
are worth their higher price point with

  1. how we looking in the waterproof/resistance department? looking for a bag that car dethrone my sun mountain 2.5 carry bag!

  2. I’m surprised you said you go for the 6 way, I just got clubs that I want to protect and I need the 14. Just ordered the iv pro 14 way yesterday

  3. Cracking review as always, Sean. I took ownership of my Player 4 pro DXR bag a month ago. Sadly, it's so wet here in the UK that it's only been to the range. I love it, and that's down to you, Sean, and your reviews. Cheers pal

  4. Ended up going with the VLS LUX instead, it's heavier for sure but by the time I load it up with all my steel shaft irons it's negligible

  5. I bought this bag without seeing it in person, and decided to go away from a 14 way top to try a 6 way for the first time, just processed an exchange for it to get the 14 way. I didn't realize before ordering but this is one of the only vessel bags with a 6 way top but only a two way divider, putting clubs in and out was driving me crazy. Looking forward to getting the 14 way version.

  6. i have 3 vessel bags. the player iv pro dxr is my lightest vessel and i like it a lot. but my only complaint is that the bag topples over a lot when it's full of clubs so i need to use the legs (which are carbon fiber and very sturdy). i usually try to lean it up aganst a wall when it's just at home and sometimes i will find that it has fallen over. the 14 way is also annoying with clubs getting snagged so i only buy 5 and 6 way openings now for all of my bags. my higher end vessel staff bag is very heavy but also very sturdy so it never topples over and i use that most of the time since i usually use a cart. i would go with the player iv pro dxr 6 way if i had to do it over again. i have black/red and love the color scheme. for comparison i also have the stitch sl2 (good), mnml golf bag (rain cover sucks), and jones stand bag (weak legs) and like the vessel player iv pro dxv over all of them.
