Colorado’s Jim Knous chased the life of a pro golfer for 12 years. Played in 44 pga tour events and made over a million dollars. But as 12 years, he’s making a change.. but not before teeing it up in one final event. Here’s Jim’s story.
one look at the golf swing of Jim canos
and it’s no surprise that he gets paid
to play you’ve kind of got that Ernie
L’s effortless looks like you’re barely
working easy power where did you get
that silky smooth swing it’s funny to
mention Ernie yells I I always tried to
model my swing after him uh like you
said big you know smooth long
fluid uh and otherwise it’s just
homegrown I mean I’ve had maybe three or
four lessons throughout my whole life
Canal who grew up in Basalt and played
college golf at the School of Mines
defied the odds spending the last 12
years chasing a career on the PGA tour
he played 44 tour events and cashed in
over a million dollars and created some
great memories along the way had a
hole-in-one at Tory Pines number three
you know the iconic number three at the
South course uh with Tiger Woods up to
up on my left corner uh playing hole
number six and supposedly he saw it so
you know that was one memory that I’ll
cherish forever the reality is that for
most pro golfers not named mroy or
Sheffer the highs don’t come nearly
enough they’re having the time of their
life uh week in and week out and uh they
make it look easy right and then for the
rest of us uh it’s you know it’s it’s
week in week out a lot of miscuts when
Jim lost his stat on both the PGA and
corn fairy tours last year his career
was at a Crossroads and he and his wife
had a decision to make what was that
conversation like we sat down and uh had
the discussion and we both kind of
agreed together that it was the right
time to pursue other options but before
moving on Jim wanted one last shot in
February he tried to qualify for the
Phoenix Open there was 110 guys playing
for three spots and Jim survived the
playoff and got to tackle the tour one
more time I was just thrilled obviously
and and uh you know I think I had
something like 83 text messages or
something by the end of that night you
know and and uh the family all descended
on Phoenix and I had something almost 50
people that were there uh wanting to
watch the golf tournament it was
incredible not only did he make the cut
in his final tournament he finished with
a
flourish he birdied four of his final
five holes including the last to finish
in the top 30 it was an incredible way
to finish there I had my family inside
the ropes I mean I saw them when I was
trying to putt for Birdie on the last
hole you know trying to not tear up
canals who once believed if you have a
plan B plan a never pans out has changed
his tune a bit he now works for the golf
club maker ping and he says he’s content
with the career he’s had and I’m super
happy with where I’m at right now I’m
super happy with my decision like you
said it’s early out of pro golf so I’m
sure I will miss it and and miss it a
lot uh but at the moment I’m I’m super
happy I’m super proud with what I what
I’ve accomplished what I did being on
the PJ tour um and you know I will never
forget those those cherish moments I had
and the awesome golf tournaments that I
got to play in and all the people I’ve
got to meet along the way
