What Should The Bears Do At Pick 9?

Kevin Fishbain joins the Adams for a three man debate regarding the Bears’ decision with pick number nine in the 2024 NFL Draft. They take three different angles and bring their best arguments to the air. Who’s strategy would you roll with?

  1. Obviously not getting MHJ. Probably not getting Nabers either. Maybe Odunze or Bowers? If not one of them two then get "Brian Thomas Jr." He is the next most talented.

  2. The guy on the bottom makes the absolute worst argument against the WR position. 1) Just because they're the top paid doesn't mean they're better than WR's still on their rookie deals i.e. Justin Jefferson, Ceedee Lamb. 2) Winning a super bowl as a metric to measure value of a player is ridiculous. So you're saying that anyone who hasn't won a SB isn't positively impacting their team in anyway?

  3. These arguments don’t make sense. Joe Alt is a clear cut above the other tackles, and every single draft analyst expects him to be gone by 9. Dallas Turner is the only defender projected in the top 10 n he is not a scheme fit. The answer is draft Rome Odunze and it is not hard. Get Caleb as many weapons as possible

  4. Keenan Allen has a history of being injury prone and he may just be a 1 year rental if he doesn't re-sign. You have to draft the 3rd available WR if he's still there at #9 because Poles can't draft a WR worth sheeeeeeet in the later rounds.

  5. For WR, I love the idea of having 3 elite WRs at age 21, 26, and 31.

For the long term, WR is set. In 2-3 years may move on from Allen and hopefully DJ Moore and odunze/MHJ/Nabers developed into #1 or #2 WR and then find a new third WR in 2-3 years.

  6. Seems rare that we get Fishbain with both Adams but it's always great. This was a great ep. Bears have lots of good options at #9. Trading down a few picks seems to make the most sense to me.

  7. Bears are returning 4 starters from OLine, Wright 1st rd Jenkins 2nd rd Jones been their dude since day 1 and Davis plus brought in 4 new bodies to compete with plus a few mid rd guys still developing,,,really doubt they go OT at 9

  8. Dont be surprised when Poles packages 75 and a 2025 2nd to move up for a 2nd rd target. They end up with caleb wr de

  9. Sleeping on Johnny Newton (who imo is above and beyond better than Murphy), and Amarius Mims at OT (no reason he can't play the left side at his size/reach/wingspan…. Not too mention he's a beast in the running game, and incredibly lean for a 350+lb guy)…

My board is trading up for mhj/Nabers/alt, or trading down a bit for one of Newton/Mims/jpj

  10. guys this particular pod today is amazing! great work. are you listening to how much information the 3 of you are accessing on the fly. wow.. really valuable and enjoyable.. i knew Alan had been hurt before but not to this extent… one twisted ankle from not having more at WR than Fields had.. maybe less without Mooney.

  11. It doesn't matter who the Bears pick, they'll find a way to fck it up, because that's what they do. They haven't had a decent QB since Jim McMahon in the 80's. But! There is one thing the Bears are good at: They're really good at fooling their fans into thinking "This is the year!" Good luck, suckers!

  12. Walker has hit his ceiling he’s a solid de2 gervon is nowhere near his ceiling and is already a starting level 3 tech

  13. I'm hoping they grab a top receiver. Allen is getting up there in age and is not locked up for the long term, and I think Moore only has 2 more years left on his deal.

  14. Great episode. If Alt or one of the top receivers aren’t there at 9, trade back a few spots and still come away with one of the best defensive players + more picks for the other needs

  15. I think whats missing in this convo is the conversation of the caliber of player you're getting at #9. Is it justifiable of letting go of a blue chip prospect at #9 due to need? Verse is not considered a blue chip propect. Neither is Murphy.

  16. I'm surprised how low everyone is becoming on Olu. In my eyes he is every bit the pass protector Alt is, just not as good of a run blocker. He was also Caleb's left tackle in high school for 3 years which is fun.

  17. Keenan Allen is 32 and at this point it doesn’t seem that the Bears haven’t done anything to suggest that they are extending him. He’s effectively a one-year rental. Next year we go back to the same issue we had, outside of DJ Moore who are our wide receivers?

Draft Odunze, let him learn from Allen, and when Allen leaves in free agency next year, you have a long term WR duo that is one of the best in the league with DJ and Rome.

I think you guys overstated the need at OT and Jones is better than you’re giving him credit for. He outplayed Darnell Wright last year and no one seems to think any better of him because he was only a fifth round pick.

With DE I agree but the Bears realistically aren’t competing for anything serious in 2024. We don’t have to fill all of our holes this year. I think it’s more important to set our QB and offense up well long term and build the defense up next year than address the defense now and put the future in doubt offensively.

  18. Fishmans argument that the top 10 paid wide receivers only had 3 superbowls between them is pretty overtly dumb follow up to his great lineman take. There is only 1 Super Bowl every year, and so its distribution across all players, at any position or pay level, is sparsely distributed – full stop. That’s just facts. The same dumb argument could be made against paying literally every position in the sport. You could also show the same effect by taking, say, the 21-30th top paid recievers. Or the 50th-60th paid linemen. So it’s a 100% useless stat.

  19. We need an offensive line that can dominate the line of scrimmage. We got enough skill players, we need some serious hardnosed asskickers on our offensive line. We don't need to waste a pick on WRs, we need prime beef on our offensive line. I want us to dominant on offense

  20. Great discussion, guys. I want a trade back w/Murphy coming to be a wrecker in the middle of the line. Someone who can push the pocket for the DEs. That guy is a beast, and will make up a little for missing out on Donald and passing on Carter. MAKE IT SO #1!

  21. Olu Fashanu and Caleb Williams were HS teammates. We should take Olu at 9, bc Braxton Jones is a turnstile and left JF1 out to dry. Olu hasn't given up a sack in 2 seasons.

  22. Passing on Rome Odunze for an inferior player/defender would be a really, really stupid move. Your needs today are not your needs tomorrow
