Ive been a fan of the Lady Vols Basketball program since the early 90s…..They are definitely a few step behind the top 10-15 teams in the country since Summitt retired…..its been a slow decent to this year at 20-13…

Vol fans need to stop comparing coaches to Pat Summit; there will never be another coach like her. Former VFL players are always compared to her. Mulkey and Staley need to stay where they are. We need to try a male coach with a personality like Barnes.

That USC coach will have the best player in the country on her team next year. Shes not leaving her or all the celebs that come to those games.
I'm one of those fans that did not agree with the firing of Coach Kellie Harper because Tennessee was the only team that played number 1 team in the country "SC" not once but, 3 times very close, losing by 1 point in an SEC tournament that Tennessee should have won. I looked back not only on Pat Summitt's career when she started coaching Tennessee: It took her almost 6 years to turn the program around in women's basketball. It took Geno Connecticut almost 8 years to turn the women's basketball into the program they had and, have now. Yes, they became a powerhouse in women's college basketball but, I think Coach Summitt would disagree to fire Coach Harper within the 5 year term just to satisfy the fan base. What about Coach Calipari? He's still the coach at Kentucky for at least 1 more year?
Guess y'all are happy today, Kellie is fired.

Coach Reed at Jackson State she's a winner.
We don't have a deep coaching bench in the country. The pool isn't very deep. Even the potentials aren't really up to caliber. Right now there's Dawn Staley and everyone else. She's X's and O's, development, recruiting, and NIL all wrapped up. South Carolina's program behind her is so deep. Their admin is deep. Next is probably LSU, and Kim is a mess and we have seen the results there. After LSU as far as recruiting, NIL, and development is maybe Duke. People can laugh at that suggestion but it really has nothing to do with Kara coming from Tennessee. She has NBA assist experience. She has Team USA experience. Since being at Duke in 2021, she's brought Duke who has higher academic standards than most colleges to a Sweet Sixteen, and has a very good recruiting class coming. Wes Moore is a good coach but gets his players from the portal like Kellie did. He doesn't recruit. So we're at the same situation. The next coach will NEED Tennessee to get the Lady Vols some NIL help. It is not the same with respect to the softball program because there is life after college basketball for women now.
Danny White would only go on the cheap if the coach is good like he is saying. But he's a different breed than what we've had in the past that I always went on the cheap for everything but football so it's a 50/50 chance I believe the coach is good and he can get that coach for cheap I believe that but if not he'll spend money in Tennessee can get a top five coach

I would go bold and go for Lindsay Gottlieb at USC. Unlikely, but I would try. If not, then Teri Moren out of Indiana
Many Volunteer fans (and I'm one of them) were shocked and dismayed by the injustice of Kelli's dismissal and like Pat Summitt remain proud of her on and off the hardwood. With a resume sporting significant athletic accomplishments both as a fierce player and demanding coach she is a role model for young women and an ambassador for the sport and Kellie will land on her feet to coach again.
But in my opinion the future of women's basketball at UT is not as bright or certain. What sane coach would want to coach there doomed by high expectations from the Pat Summitt era at Tennessee?
Kellie made the NCAA Tournament four out of her five seasons coaching Rocky Top and the Lady Vols have been in the Sweet 16 in each of the past two seasons! And injuries for key players which kept them on the sidelines prevented even better results.
Few active college coaches in women's basketball can boast a better record today. UT needs to seriously consider that if not carefully managed the biggest enemy of excellence in college sports can be unreasonable demands by the alumni association for perfection.

I think the biggest fire was Kellie Harper, I have a problem with it because it takes more than 5 years to turn a women's basketball program around? The legend Pat Summitt was the best but, it took her 6 years to get it to where she started winning. The recruiting and, marketing value is premium, now we have a mark on our program because coaches don't want to get fired that easy, a track record means a lot to coaches & Universities. This is why Tennessee won't get a top 5 coach, let's look at reality: Coach Harper did make progress during her 5 years but, it will be hard to get the program back where Coach Summitt had it?
