Golf Central on YouTube is brought to you by the new Chrome tour golf ball from Callaway let’s take a look at the highlights from round one and we start with lah W the Par Four first and it’s the Florida state sophomore with her approach yeah you got to take advantage
Of one of the easier par fours on the golf course and there’s an illustration of how you do it beautiful wedge close downwind tough to get at that pin but she did it yeah that was impressive she was 200 under at the time finished the day at or under par sticking with the
Florida theme University of Florida Senor myy filler on the ninth trying to fill it up yeah yeah that part five you got to take advantage of and fours are flying at the ninth she also carded a four under 68 Franchesca falini the Italian on the 18th well she’s also a match play wizard
She’s won the Italian uh women’s match play three consecutive times and you can see why with shots like that that birdie would Mur her to two under par and we’re going to move to the front side as she began her day on the back so this her
16th hole another birdie and she was making putt yeah she was making putts like that in the junior Ridder cup at Marco Simone last fall the South Carolina commit here I like galitzki part 5 18th the pipeline is deep George run to Columbia just up the street and she’d
Like to have some success this week before she uh heads to the Gamecocks next year year that was an eagle on the card part of a five under 67 what a round one of the favorites coming into the week LSU’s ingred lindblad on the 11th well why is she a favorite George
Just cuz she’s number one in the world you think that’s why she’s a favorite yeah of course I think finally once she got that 14th win in college people started turning their attention to her inlad on the 12th yeah the 14th win came by 10 shots geordan so what
Close and she has experience around this place and there it is on display she’s comfortable playing the role of Chaser also very comfortable with the lead that pushed her to four under far and she wasn’t done yet we’re going to zoom up to the 17th from off the
Green well this doesn’t count as a putt but uh it counts as a birdie and uh one of the many on the day for world number one five under 67 a smack dab in the middle of that first page of the leaderboard Hannah darling the Junior at
South Carolina her third at the parfi 14th so much talent she has won uh won the Darius Rucker recently and runner up just across town in another College event recently that was her seventh circle on the card and why not add one more at 17 yeah the garnet and gold uh was
Flying and you would uh think if she gets rolling there they’re not going to be far away in Columbia coming down supporting her so here’s the board after 18 holes darling with that 6 under 66 leading by one a trio T2 at 5 under you got a
Couple players at four under bar it’s impressive the entire first page of the leaderboard everyone broke 70 let’s hear from some of the players who are on that first page the way I thought my way around the golf course was uh great today uh you know I was really disciplined me and my
Caddy we made some really smart targets and we were just hitting committed shots to those targets and you know I hit pretty much every shot today was great and I didn’t hit every great golf shot you know but we hit great shots to Our intention and to our Target so you know
It’s credit to that just this year I was just trying to be here be present not I usually play better when I think less and I think I did that today not you know too many swing thoughts or thoughts about anything really I think I had a
Great time I had fun with my coach on the bag and uh also my family supporting was very nice um I was very excited and uh I think that uh worked what was working for you today I think almost everything like we were just trying to
Hit Fairways and greens and if the putts dropped it dropped and that’s exactly what uh happened I was putting I would say pretty well today and a lot of putt stress dropped yeah just played pretty solid really didn’t really miss a fairway hit a lot of greens and hold a
Hold one nice long eagle part which helped and then just the rest were just inside like 5 ft it was a really solid day my second nine which is the front nine was really solid I started off with an eagle so that was a real confidence
Booster going into the rest of my nine there and my putting was really spoton today I felt really comfortable on the greens let’s take into some more of the highlights from from day one Wake Forest Rachel Keane 18th for Bird yeah this is her fourth time playing in this tournament so she knows
Her way around this golf course yeah Keane with Alex Fitzpatrick on the bag who plays on the DP World Tour brother of Matt Fitzpatrick and he’s looping this week for his girlfriend USC Jr Mari Avery part 3 e this for birdie yeah the the par 3s were a little
Kinder to today than they normally are there were a number of twos there at the E and there’s one of them Anna Davis pass champ back in 2022 the Lefty of 10 do you like the bucket hat more George or the visor which one do you
Like I like them both and I like that shot yeah yeah I like her iron play birdie there she’s one under then on the 12th from the bunker so many great shots like that uh around the greens were the reason for her success when she was the champion
Just a few years ago and trip par putts like this yeah exactly you know the greens they did not uh they were not as slow as they could have been with all that rain they are rolling very nice at Champions Retreat ASU senior Ashley money who they call Ash Cash Par 3 e
T-shot Ash Cash uh yeah she’s played three times here she’s a three-time All America as well and we see why beautiful shot added at four under would finish the day with a three under 69 Jasmine coup part 4 S long birdie putt yeah this was one of the longest birdies of the
Day there were a number of them but uh none longer or better putt matching line and speed good catch hole strutting it in it’s part of a three under 69 and Nails the high five Maria Jose Marine part five ninth yeah the ninth much Kinder than
The 18th in fact this little chip right here was one of 21 birdies on the [Applause] day and how about the scoring conditions for day one we’re I mean we’re used to Champions Retreat just being an absolute slog look at 20121 it was over 76 76.8 a new low today
72.6 very favorable condition so what did the players think of the scoring conditions for the opening R it definitely was a bit more wet especially off the tea the greens were a bit more receptive um but the greens were rolling about the same so I was just a a little
Longer in spots because of the wetness but not too dissimilar to yesterday you know I’m not going to lie I’m really glad I was the second going off um coming down the stretch it was blowing um all my friends give me crap cuz I don’t necessarily believe in the whole wind slope
Situation um but I mean just looking at Flags like you’re I mean my hat fell off almost twice uh I mean going into tomorrow I’ll probably tie it a little tighter and play the win a little bit more than I did today yeah so when we
Were on the first te it started pouring down so like instead of being very nervous of trying to hit the Fairway it all came down to try to hit the ball so that was actually kind of like calm me down a little you know I’ve grown up on
A course that’s very windy so the wind wasn’t really something I’m not used to uh and I actually like playing in the rain so you know it was fine it was definitely windy and raining and early in the morning but when it rained the hardest I got a birdie so I like that
That didn’t affect me in a bad way but I feel like the wind definitely played a big part in the way I played the course today and it might probably will tomorrow
