There’s one lesson Fred Couples will always remember

Couples chats about his time with Lee Trevino, Raymond Floyd and Tom Watson and which lessons stuck with him the most.

Lee Travino Floyd and Watson and they all gave me time Floyd probably the most Travino he was with Bridgestone for a while if he was here today yeah every free minute I would be sitting with him that right he just is a trip to me but

Floyd was more who taught me how to save a shot around we were at the shark shootout and we won but I butchered a couple times and so he looked at me he says how many Eagles you make this year cuz it was in season’s over yeah I said

I don’t know not many maybe 12 and he goes yeah 12 you play 25 tournaments you’re making 12 Eagles you’re trying to Eagle every part five make a four and it just stuck so now when I hit a two iron from 230 and I don’t cut it to the flag

And I hit it 40 feet I’m happy with it cuz sometimes you know a shot that looks pretty good and all of a sudden it trickles over and you’re in rough and you have no green and you make par you’re living yeah

  1. I really hope Rory McIlroy sees this video, this is made for him. Stop chasing eagles and making bogey !!!

  2. Learned this after 40 hrs of golf:) 18 at my club, easily reachable in 2, but sand front right, left. Trees, have to hit a perfect cut to hit the green. I pull it off 1 out of 30 tries, always make par when pin high in two,, now I lay up front and birdie 7 out of 10 times.

  3. It’s like golf inflation hearing an older pro hit 2 iron 230. That’s a solid 5 iron for pros now

  4. I was fortunate enough to go to the Shark shootout in the early 90’s when Fred and Ray Floyd were partnered. Arnold was paired with Peter Jacobson, if I recall correctly, Jack Nicklaus was paired with Greg Norman. Other golfers there included Curtis Strange and Tom Watson.

  5. Translated the advice is pick your spots for being aggressive. Dont have predetermined thoughts on what you want to do before getting to the ball.

  6. Friend of mine played with Freddie once. He said Freddie gave him the best advice he ever got from a living legend. They met on the first tee. Freddie asked him, hi my name is Fred. Have I played with you on the PGA tour? Oh you aren’t a scratch golfer? Then what the hell are you doing playing the same tee as me? 😂. I see so many hackers each round playing from the back tees, the blue tees, when they should playing the whites. I’m talking about you as you read this.
