DeMarcus takes us on a full tour of his home club Cowboys Golf Club which is the first and only NFL themed course in the United States. He gives us some insight to his HOF career and his love and passion for golf post football.

Demarcus Wear Demarcus spent his entire career chasing down quarterbacks and terrorizing them on the field but now he’s obsessed with golf he can’t put down the clubs so I figured why not meet up with him at his home club play around to golf and get to know him a little bit

Better so come along we’re going to show you inside of Cowboys Golf Club and head out to the Course when I’m not on the course hacking it up making double triple bogeys or roasting professional golfers on the internet I like to relax put my feet in the sand enjoy the Sun and throw down an ice cold Corona Premiere but unfortunately for me even when I’m on

Nice man this this is I mean the only golf course in the United States that you know it’s NFL thing cowboy thing right but also when you look back here you look at all the history yeah and just walking into this place it just bring back all the memories of me

Playing and looking at the Ring of Honor and I’m like hold on my name is actually on the wall over here so it’s so cool to play here for so many years but now be embedded in here forever which is awesome it’s a cool perk to have for

Current and past Cowboys players and anytime anyone comes out of town from uh anywhere visiting me they’re like we want to play Cowboys Golf Club you know it’s they always keep it in great shape yeah they do I would say it’s the number one public course I I I would say that

Hands down and the Ambiance when you want to go play at a course you’re going to get that when you come here so post retirement you’ve been busy you’ve been adducted to Pro Football Hall of Fame you’ve got you know Hall of Fame back home as well in Alabama you’ve got I

Mean so many things going on you’ve been busy but uh you’ve been staying up with the golf game if I can golf every day I would um I got a simulator in my house unfortunately we couldn’t go over there but um I try to swing the clubs every

Day and it’s one of those those sports that it reminded me of football not as physical but the mental preparation that it takes to get on the course and play and I’m still outside which is really good so um I I would say you know golf

Saved me I’m still out there on the green but um you know not between the white lines anymore I’m actually Hing a golf ball um you know trying to do something good oh you played on big stage too you were out you played out in the Tahoe tournament uh you’ve uh you

Played at the invited Class A couple times you’re going to be probably playing there again this year and like next month or so yeah and the invited is next month April 15th through the 21st and then you got Tahoe in July so this is the time where you prepare right you

Play courses these awesome public courses like the cowboy course they get you ready for it but when you get out there it’s totally different there thousands of people but they can be the quietest ever when it’s time for you to hit that ball that’s the most intimidating thing it’s almost like when

I was rushing a passer I don’t hear the fans until I get that sack and it’s the same thing when you hit that golf ball yeah golf is n dude it’s all up here yeah it is it is you think you know what you’re doing and then just something

Shifts and changes even with within one hole you know let alone one round or it’s just it’s crazy yeah but you know with football it taught me that at the end of the day you’re going to fail and that sort of transitions over to Golf 2

You’re going to have some bad shots but how well can you play your misses cuz every shot is a Miss but it depends on how good it is or not and um instead of it being seven points every stroke is like a touchdown every stroke and you

Got to try to get them all in sometime in my case those Strokes that up very fast man mine too mine too let’s check out this place a little bit I know you got the Ring of Honor over here with your name on it so let’s take a look Around all here it is man that’s a big moment man it how’d that feel after just I mean this last year with all the hard work you put in in your career and then just be recognized on the biggest stages I mean Pro Football Hall of Fame I mean

How’d that feel for you your family everything just looking back on all the hard work you put into it it was one of the coolest things because you see your hard work really paying off um you can be one of the best players ever right um

But that doesn’t say that you’re a Hall of Famer yeah and to be able to say I was 371 that’s my number Hall of Fame number out of thousand thousand of thousands millions of players and they say you’re the best which is one of the coolest

Things but it was even cooler when you just came in here and your name’s on the Ring of Honor it doesn’t matter how well you play for the Dallas Cowboys and we know that there’s a lot of awesome Dallas Cowboys that played that doesn’t guarantee that you’re going to make the

Ring of Honor and there’s even less of names it’s a list of names on here very impressive yeah and so it’s almost like you got you came back home and you was welcome back home in a way where your career is solidified as a Dallas Cowboy

Great forever and I was like that’s one of the coolest things and then I also got to I was a young guy and then Jimmy Johnson you know got in so I was on the field and one of those surreal moments was in I when I was in a suite and all

These guys were in there and I was looking around and I was like man I’m one of those guys and I started I pulled out my phone for the first time and I started filming really everything and I was like this is a real thing so even at this

Stage you still have those Pinch Me moments still still do I mean why not yeah you’re never too big and I always tell people you’re never too big that’s awesome man you definitely had a hell of a career man started fast just got things going man just we’re consistent

The whole time around so and now I’m trying to do that same thing with my golf game so when we go out here and play we’re trying to do the same thing I can’t wait to see it I know that you worked with Brit a little bit the coach

That I’ve worked with so he said you got to quite the game you can hit the ball hard far so got to be straight so yeah this is a great course so I’m excited to get out there with you and show people what cowboys has to offer let’s do it

See your game man let’s do it man oh Yeah here we go oh yeah let going to Run yes sir get her on down there so I saw an article recently that you did with Avid golfer that uh kind of compared your your play in football with golf just being individual sport I mean your was after the quarterback trying to knock his head off every play but you’re

Out here on your own and golf like walk me through that comparison a little bit when I started thinking about football and golf right first of all football saved me after golf um because as a pass rusher I would think about the triangle and the triangle is the center The

Tackle and the quarterback so about 40 hours a week I will study all three I will study the center um you know is he is he a one of those guys that squat before he snaps the ball um you know does he grips the ball before he snaps

It is he a head mover so that’s number one number two I’ll look at the tackle um look at his foot his stance if it’s outside I know he’s coming out to block me so I know it’s a running play if he’s narrow like this I know he’s actually

Going to kick back it’s a pass passing play so I look at that look at the center look at the tackle and then the whole week I’ve been studying Monday Night Football because the center has a mic on them yeah I hear what the quarterback says so at all in probably

About 3 or 4 seconds I hear what the quarterback is saying I look at the center right and I look at the tackle so all these things are repetitive for so many plays and then as I transition out here not sacking the quarterback anymore you know swinging the clubs it’s the

Same thing what’s my distance what’s my li how far do I need to hit the ball all right okay if I hit it on top of the hill it’s going to roll to the left all right Demarcus you got this club you hit a draw with it every time if you hit a

Miss all right if you hit it good you’re going to you know it’s so many variables that you got to worry about and you got longer to think about it that’s the worst part you do got a lot in football we only had like 3 or 4 seconds this you

Might have about a minute to think about it but with me I always say I think about everything before I get up here yeah you can get and then I’m getting here I’m swinging yeah so the comparison of the two is you the mode of preparation is

The same different variables but at the end of the day it’s one strike yeah me jumping off the ball getting to the quarterback here having that shot every single time so it’s the coolest thing for me and and it’s a as a pass rusher when it’s third down it’s about you yeah

On the golf course when it’s just you and that ball that’s it it doesn’t matter don’t look at nobody else’s swing don’t look at nobody else’s results or anything like that it’s about your preparation and what you going to do with it there we Go there we go good shot you’ll hit the ball boom practice is everything this is the cool part dang that’s a little too far oh it’s right on not bad save some of these Shots that’s where you want to hit it at too h i me but the thing is it’s it’s one of those things like golf for me is like I’m playing a game Do you play golf with any of your uh ex-teammates and stuff oh all the time me we play like me and Jason Hatcher Patrick kraton Anthony Spencer Barry church cuz they were going to come out today yeah they were like you’re filming nah dog because they they want to

Like they’re playing way into it oh yeah yeah yeah oh there we go I’ll take a TP from back there right there oh yeah yes sir Yeah God dang that’s golf man you got to be kidding me so who was your uh who’s your favorite quarterback to play against man uh favorite quarterback oh man I mean I think it depends on how big the game was yeah it really wasn’t uh we’ll let them go through yeah

I think it’s uh okay when Michael Vic was like really big in Atlanta yeah that was huge because he had the roller coaster ride he had the shoes so I got to get Michael Vic you got to pick six against today yeah I did I did and then and then uh

Another one was Brett Favre okay so I mean as a kid you’re playing Techo Bowl you’re playing Madden and all of a sudden you’re like I’m on to fi with Brett fa and so I’m like I got to sack Brett fa yeah ended up getting a couple sacks

On Brett Favre and I’m all right it was Donovan McNab cu he was hard to get down he was a beast yeah um a quarterback that I always tried to sack it took me 12 years was Philip Rivers really yeah we played him a lot in San Diego you

Know in Denver MH but I never got to sack him he talked a lot of trash all the time but every time I try to sack him he’ll take an intentional grounding or he’ll just fall down he’s like he got the ball pretty cool D yeah you’re never

Going to get a sack on me yeah so the last game I ever played against the San Diego Chargers is in Denver Philips quarterback I come around the corner and he saw me I know he saw me because he just like laid down and I

Just touched him I’m like come on man he was like dude I know you probably going to retire this year so I I give you this sack and I’m looking like what but it it was cool though because it’s like one of those Mutual things it was that Mutual battle between

Me and him I heard he talked a lot of smack but didn’t never like swear and also very respectful too like imagine like he imagine like if he scores on you he’s like boom and then he’ll just go like walk away from you I got long let me get right here there we

Go here we go fellas fellas how you too both teams have been just like heartbreak on both conferences man I’m like who’s going to pull this off like yeah and they both every year they’re like oh man they they’re the hot team going in they got this this I’m

Like but hey I wanted Philip to win one and you know close close a lot yeah close a lot the one year they were the closest uh Tom Brady and then they got the injuries and just like yeah yeah it’s tough yeah but quarterback wise any any quarterback that I played against I

Have to study you for like 60 hours a week wow so I don’t like you it doesn’t matter if who what Jersey you have I don’t care if it was a rookie or if it was a 20year vet I have to study you all week I got to break you down

Right and so I will know from the point to where your voice inflection if you know we’re blitzing or not yeah like if certain things that you will say I will know if it’s a run play or not and a lot of people don’t know that you know I wear hearing AG

Really yeah so I really couldn’t hear what they were saying so I had to study their uh movements and there and so if they just yell like and try to make me jump offside I never jumped work I jumped off a movement and so it was one of the

Coolest things for me as I was studying I stud studied movement how they their Tendencies for I mean all week and so I would go in every week and you can probably talk to a lot of the guys I played with and I would break down

Hey look at his eyes you see how his eyes are where he’s looking at right now that’s a run play or look how he looks to his right every single time he looks to his right or his left that’s a screen play and okay look at his heels you see

His heels look and it will be the smallest stuff now like how do you see that I said I’ve been studying this for 60 hours and I said it takes me one play to just be a game record and I said off that one little tip m i can wreck

The whole game and I said they’ll mess up watch the first quarter all the way to the fourth quarter because the fourth quarter everybody’s tired and that’s when it really picks up and they their Tendencies really they just go yeah everybody’s fresh first quarter yeah of course but the fourth quarter

Everybody’s tired and I start to it clicks and and they do it over and over again it might not be repetitive at the first quarter but the fourth quarter they do it all the time and that’s when I eat when it really Matters how you put in the bare minimum because you’ve already been fed and the reason why I say that is you know this in the sports they get handed everything to them without having to work as hard but for us I had to work really hard to get what I wanted MH and

So I always knew that if you put in the work there’s going to be a result might not be the right one but that failure that time that I’m going to fail over and over again it’s going to be one time that that failure becomes you know something

Great but a lot of the guys now when they fail they’ve already been fed so if I fail I’m still going to get fed yeah it wasn’t that case for me yeah so you grew up you grew up in Alabama yeah yeah in alurn Alabama so you know it’s that’s straight you know

You got University I grew up across the railroad tracks in the projects um with my mom and my grandparents you know sold Co at the AL University football game worked at the Alin housing authority and so it was worked in a chicken CP yeah yeah so every

Little small job I was doing that when I was younger at 13 I was driving jeez so you used to hard work the whole life that’s all I knew yeah I knew that cuz my grand said he always told me he said um if you don’t stand for something

You’re going to fall for anything MH so what are you going to stand for and so every day I woke up I knew that I had to work for something because otherwise you’re going to fall to everybody else’s expectations faith is big in life too yeah it is it is I

Mean you know me know how when you’re younger you going to church on Wednesday you know you got the bible study on Saturday and then Sunday you’re going to church mhm with the penny loaf of shoes on that hurt that are too small I remember that but um now it’s it was one

Of those things like through college I always felt different I always um felt like um there was something more to what God wanted me to do and then I I realized that if I can take god with me every place Jesus with me every place I have an opportunity to call on him

Anytime and I said if I can give you six weeks to prepare on the seventh day on Sunday I want for you to unleash hell every Sunday through me so I said but I’m going to put the work in on Monday through Saturday but on

Sunday I’mma call on you and I need for you to take over as I put these pads in on the football field so that’s why I played like a wild man yeah it’s it was part of my DNA and the same thing now that’s what kept me sane that’s what’s

You know kept me you know focused on everything because I was serving something bigger than Me all right so we got our signature hole here got the star right in the middle of the Fairway so I mean only first first and only NFL themed golf course so I mean Cowboys obviously got to do it big anything they do oh they do

Right do what’s your play here so you got driver out um I’m a I’m aiming straight at the sand traps and I usually hit a draw and they get close to that star but I try my best not to hit that fade because of you know I got all my

Track over here so I aim at the at the sand traps and just try to crush It all right so not every course has a Dallas Cowboys star right here in the middle of the Fairway so I mean Cowboys Golf Club is a great course always in pure shape but number four signature hole you’ve got this right here in the middle so I figured why not do a little

Uh fun game when we throw the ball down do a little closest to the pen action let’s do it all right so I think we got about 130 right fish yeah it’s about 130 back over there again all right right side of Green yep all right see what I got Here there we go come on catch a Piece Rel a little bit all right oh I like it it no that’s still quick yeah I thought it was going to give me a little bit there we go that’s golf for you well dude congrats on everything than so much man thanks man until next time right oh Yeah He
