My Top 5 Driver Tips for Senior Golfers

Learn how to get more distance with your driver with these senior golfer tips from Todd Kolb of VLS Golf!

Welcome everybody Todd Cole PJ professional and director of instruction for us golf TV and vs golf first of all welcome to the session today we’re gonna be talking about the five keys to hitting the driver this club right here the five keys to hitting a driver especially for the experienced golfer

The senior golfer now you know this before we get started this is a live session we’re live right now so if you’re out there give me a thumbs up uh that you can hear us that the audio is good and of course be sure to tell us

Where you’re from that way Nick and I know that we can get rolling and you can hear us and we can start diving into this great content that we that we got covered here for you today so I got my main man Nick behind the camera Nick

Give him the thumbs up there he is there’s the thumbs up all right so I need somebody out there give me the thumbs up can you hear us can you see us okay how’s the audio we got James right there said hello already good deal yes we got some people from the Netherlands

Look at this welcome the Netherlands what’s the golf season like in the Netherlands right now that’s a place we’ve never been but it’s a place we need to get to so all right let’s see how we’re doing out there we got a bunch of people logging on right now so today

We’re going to be talking about like I said the five different things that we can be doing to help us hit this golf club right here the driver okay the driver that’s what we’re looking for so we’re going to give everybody about another another 30 seconds here to just

Kind of log on and get going we got a bunch of people jumping on right now pretty rainy right there it’s been rainy here the last couple days although today is beautiful now one other thing I’d like to know we’re getting everybody chance Manny’s here good to see you

Manny give us a thumbs up can you hear us can you see us how’s the audio and also what driver are you playing right now okay what driver are you playing I’ve got the max ft right here that’s what we’re going to use to demonstrate today but what dri are you playing I’d

Just be curious to know it’s kind of something that we like to do all right hey we’re getting a tons of thumbs up Wayne good to see you this is fantastic berries here awesome we got the Ping all right so let’s Dive Right into this today we’re talking about the five

Things the five key components to being a great driver of the golf ball all right and today I’ve designed these specific tips and these suggestions around this experienc golfer you know who you are the older golfer right we’re all getting there that doesn’t mean we can’t play Great Golf all right so here

We go number five okay is a slightly stronger grip so let’s Dive Right into that and then we’re going to talk about why that’s important so number five is a slightly stronger grip so if I look at my lead hand I’m a right-handed golfer and I wore my Master’s pull over today because

Next week is the Masters all right next week is the Masters so my lead hand my glove hand right here the more it rotates this way this is what we call strong the more my lead hand rotates this way this is strong versus rotating this this way this would be weak see how

The Palm goes towards this guy that would be weak this would be strong so first of all from a definition standpoint we need to understand the difference between strong and weak this is strong this is weak okay now a neutral grip or what we call kind of

Textbook grip all right would be when you look down at your lead hand all right that you could see roughly two maybe two and a half Knuckles all right now here’s a little tip for you this is something that’s interesting and you know one of the things that we’re big

Believers in here at VLS golf is is that there’s a lot of ways to swing the golf club and the information that we provide I hope and I I I hope you’re experiencing is like let’s find what’s the best swing for you so here’s an example here’s an example on the grip

Okay this is the this is a golden nugget we love these little golden nuggets when I just stand here nice and Tall okay throw my shoulders back and get your chin up like you know your mom taught you to do right and I just let my lead

Arm fall you’ll notice that my lead arm my left arm here kind of Falls in a certain way now some people’s arm kind of Falls like that some people kind of fall like this way okay everybody’s built a little bit different so when we grip the golf club what I would suggest

You do is just let your let your lead arm for me that’s my left arm let it fall to the side and then just go ahead and grip it over here in the side see how I’m doing that I’m not bringing it in front and then moving my arm this

Way just set it over here on the side and then grip it on the side now why does that work well because this is how my arm and my hand naturally Falls and so I want to grip it in a natural position all right is making sense give

Me a thumbs up if that’s making sense now I’m going to go ahead and bring it up front now and what I want to see is roughly about two and a half Knuckles and maybe even a little bit more maybe three this would be okay I wouldn’t want

Any of my experienced golfers when it comes to the driver having a weak grip if you got a grip this way okay I’m not saying well I think that’s a problem I guess to be blunt all right I like to see a little bit of a stronger grip so

Here’s what we’ve learned on the first thing we’re talking about here today and then I’m going to tell you why a stronger grip is more important number what we’ve learned here is that a stronger grip is better than a weaker grip a strong grip is when the

Arm excuse me when the hands rotated this way versus this is weak we can find that position by simply gripping the club over here on the side okay and then bringing it up front all right so when we look down our hand we can see two and

A half maybe three Knuckles now why is a stronger lead hand grip better in our opinion this is one of the cornerstones of the vertical line swing we put it in the book The Bad lie all the videos that Nick and I and Jordy and JT all the

Stuff that we do here okay the reason that the stronger grip is better for the experienced golfer is because it helps us release and rotate the club it makes it easier to square the club face okay so this notice the club face is squaring or rotating

Okay that would be number five so that’s number five a slightly stronger goup if that’s making sense now if you got some questions start throwing those in the chat right now Nick’s taking notes we’re going to get to some of these questions and you know one of our favorite things

We love hearing where everybody’s from I know some people are like God why do you keep asking that I don’t know it’s just kind of fun for us we like to hear where every every body’s from all right we got people from the Netherlands we got people from all over all right number

Four number four is ball position and having the ball slightly forward in the stance so what does that look like look we got Boston we got people coming in from all over all right so slightly forward in the stance so what does that look like well first of

All okay I got my stance withd now I want your stance width to be at least about shoulder width apart okay and one of the corner zones of the vertical line swing is to take your toes and flare them out just a little bit okay because balance and stability especially when

You’re swinging a longer club like the driver can be a real challenge okay now when we move the ball slightly forward in the stance now what is forward forward is when the ball is more towards my lead foot which is my left foot I’m a right-handed golfer let’s say my target is this

Direction a ball is more forward when it’s more towards my lead Lead Foot this would be a ball position that’s back this would be a ball position that’s forward okay so I want that ball to be forward now normal position or a neutral position for the driver for a lot of

Golfers not necessarily bad okay but that position would be where the ball okay is just off the inside of the lead heel so let me go ahead and grab one of our alignment rods then we’re going to talk about some other fun stuff like how high should you te up the golf ball

Things like that these are questions that a lot of you I know wonder and are asking okay so here we go so this position right here would be pretty what I would call neutral or normal for a driver where the ball is just off the inside of my lead heel

That’s not a bad spot okay but for the experienced golfer in our system we like that to be more forward so we would actually have that almost to a point where it’s off your lead toe okay now couple things you got watch and and number one is why is that

Important why does it help to move the ball forward well because we know this that when we come in contact with the golf ball if the club is traveling in an upward motion it’s ascending it’s moving up the circle not down the circle it’s moving up the circle all

Things being equal that’s going to increase your launch a little bit and bring your spin down so the ball is going to carry a little bit further and it’s going to roll a little bit more okay so that’s why we like the ball a little bit forward now what do you got

To watch for when you move the ball forward what you have to watch for I’m going to switch directions here now we’re going to go from the down the line view what you got to watch for okay and I just worked on this with one of my students actually a really good student

Okay that is when the ball gets more forward in the stance up in The Stance the tendency is to get the shoulders more open okay meaning the left shoulder the lead shoulder goes back and the trail shoulder so if you’re in this position right here we’re going

To talk about the shoulders I don’t want to give away the secret but we’re going to talk about the shoulders here just a little bit okay but watch your shoulder position make sure your shoulders stay Square As you move the ball forward okay now the other thing that a

Lot of people ask is how high should I tee up the golf ball okay keep those questions coming in I see Nikki writing over there like crazy right now it’s writing down questions because we’re going to save some time and get to those the other question is people say how

High should I tee up the golf ball okay this isn’t one of the five that I was going to talk about but it’s important to know generally speaking you want to tee the golf ball up so that about half of the ball okay everybody can kind of

See that there about half of the ball is above the top of the club head that’s a good rule of thumb okay half of the ball is above the top of the club that’s going to help you promote hitting up on the golf ball so all right here we go number four was

Ball position and moving that ball more forward in the stamp be aware of the shoulders as you do that so we talked about grip we’ve talked about ball position now number three and this this is the most important one I only listed as number three because the last one is kind of

One for fun because we got the Masters coming up which we’ll talk about here but but the number three I think is the most important and that is to increase your hip turn I’m going to say that again increase your hip turn and for those of you have been following us here

For a long time you know this we can describe the golf swing in eight words right we can describe the golf sing in eight words and if you’ve never heard this write it down because this is a golden nugget arms take it up body takes it around right everybody

Out there knows that right give me the thumbs up if you’ve heard that you know that right okay arms take it up body takes it WR what do we mean that means that when we swing the golf club and we break break it down in its most simple

Form right we want to keep this game simple it’s hard but it doesn’t have to be complicated okay when I swing this golf club my arms take it up my body takes it around right arms take it up body takes it around now this leads into the most important one number

Three is that we have to increase our hip turn because when we increase our hip turn multiple things happen and I’m going to show you how to do this in just a second but you need to understand why we’re doing it okay when I increase hip turn I get length of the

Swing if you want to hit the golf ball longer okay if you want to hit the golf ball longer you got to make a longer swing and you got to make a bigger turn to do that okay so that’s going to give you more Club head speed the second

Thing and this is something that a lot of people don’t realize is that when you increase your hip turn I can promise you this when you increase your hip turn your Tempo and Rhythm will improve your Tempo and Rhythm will improve why is that because when you grab this club

What are you looking for this is one of the most fun clubs to hit it’s one of the reasons we love golf but what are you really looking for you’re looking for distance nothing wrong with that nothing wrong with just like I just want

To hit I want to rip some drivers man I want to get some distance right okay so if you’re looking for distance and we know that the easiest way to get more distance is more Club head speed and we can create more Club head speed by a longer

Swing okay we can improve our Tempo because we have turned and we have the length of the Swing to create the momentum that we need if you restrict your hip turn if you have a very short back swing okay low and flat and around we’re getting into the we’re getting

Into the heart of the vertical line swing right now and your swing is only this long and you’re trying to hit this club 250 yards there’s only one way to do it and that is to get really quick and pop it however if you make a nice

Big hip turn and get some length to your swing see the hip turn there now I’ve got all this time this club can go all the way from there all the way down to the ball I have all of this Runway to create speed versus my swing is here I

Have very little Runway so number three is to increase your hip turn so how do you do that pretty simple couple things number one I’ll give you a drill to do it but the number one thing is you got to let your Trail EG release and if

You’ve been jumping on our live sessions here okay Nick’s gonna give you a discount code he’s going to throw that in the chat one of the things we love doing is just providing stuff for our fellow golfers you’re coming here you’re sharing where you’re from okay things

Like that we love that so we’ like to give you something all right so Nick will put that in the chat right now and the code is YouTube 20 YouTube 20 gives you 20% off but all right so here we go Trail leg release if you let that trail leg release see that

Boom that increases your hip turn now for those Avid followers of BLS golf you know already you know this already because last week last week we did some great sessions we talked about some things about Jack Nicholas and all these things like that but at any rate you

Know one of the things that we look for in the vertical line swing is the change of knee flex and that daylight okay that daylight between the knees see that so that’s one of the checkpoints so the easiest way to get more hip turn is to

Let your Trail leg release now what if you’re like I just can’t feel that can’t do it can’t feel it I got you don’t worry about it here’s what you’re gonna do take your driver I got my Max ver it right here okay I’m GNA take my driver

I’m just going to hold it almost kind of like a cane kind of like this right and I’m just going to get set up in kind of a quas golf posture position okay and what I’m going to do is I’m just going to turn and I’m gonna take my trail foot

My right foot just step back see that boom little step back little step back and you know this little little step back we love the three setters right we love to do a little three Setter then we hit a ball so here we go you want to feel hip turn

Boom there’s one feel the turn there’s two boom there’s three okay so that’s number three is we want to increase our hip turn so we got a stronger grip we’ve got the ball forward we got more hip turn now number two okay number two keep those questions coming Nick is writing

Them down look man we got people from England Connecticut Minnesota Ohio Boston fantastic where you from if you’re just jumping on right now throw that in the chat let us know where you’re from Texas got some Texas fans out there okay also I’d be curious who’s going to win the

Masters who’s going to win oh look Nick Nick’s thinking over there Nick you should throw some in the chat who you got throw Nick’s going to throw his pick in the chat who do you think’s gonna win oh see he’s going he’s going Scotty he’s going textbook right there okay who else

Do you got who who do you think’s GNA win The Masters I’d be curious to think we got we’re gonna get a lot of Scotties all right number two is upper body tilt okay shoulders let me demonstrate this from the face on so here we go number

Two is is upper body tilt so what we’ve got here all right is body tilt is when my upper body goes this way so my lead shoulder goes up and my trail shoulder goes down see that lead shoulder goes up Trail shoulder goes down everybody kind

Of see let me do it from this angle right here remember how we talked about the importance of the shoulders being squared to the Target line lead shoulder up Trail shoulder down now why is this important couple things remember how we talked about ball position ball being forward and hitting

Up on the golf ball well when I preset my shoulders a little this way that’s sets the tone for me to hit up on the golf ball okay versus like this this would be terrible Trail shoulder high lead shoulder low we would never want that boom see that

Good bad now also from the down the line view here’s a little gym here’s nor one these golden nuggets instructors we get these little golden nuggets we find these little things I love sharing them with you changing KNE Flex remember see the daylight that’s a golden nugget

Right there if you see daylight between your knees you’ve got the hip turn you need here is a little Golden Nugget for your setup when you’re set in there raise the lead shoulder okay Trail notice how my lead arm is just slightly higher than my trail arm everybody see

That lead arm slightly higher than my trail arm this will also help you hit the ball from more of the inside if you tend to slice your driver getting that lead shoulder up Trail shoulder underneath right arm underneath in this fashion right here that will also help you swing the club

From the inside okay oh we got people from South Africa we got people from all over this is fantastic all right now number one then we’re gonna get into some questions here number one this is my favorite okay we call it kind of the Arie Palmer it’s the high handle finish

The high handle finish now what is the high handle finish we’ve done videos on this this is one of my favorite things to do okay when I’m given a golf lesson and that is when you finish your golf swing you want the handle to finish nice and high see that see the handle’s

Finish nice and high I’m gonna get that thing so high Nick we’re gonna need a we’re gonna need a taller ceiling see that thing that handle is High versus handle low I want handle high now I’m gonna give you a little tip if you slice your

Driver here also on that but why do I want a high handle well when we hit the ball what do we want what do we want to be doing where do we want the club we want the club moving what up up right this is

Up right this is up if I’m over here if I and I see this I see a lot of you guys and gals you’re doing this can’t be doing this right you’re low on the back you’re not vertical with the lead arm you’re low on the back and

You’re low around how are we ever going to hit up when my when the handle’s low and around okay you want the handle to be up you want the handle to be up now what if you slice it what if you slice your driver well

Here’s what I want you to do okay we did a video on this too on our YouTube channel but if you slice it I want you to get the handle up but I also want you to what we call Lay it over okay you can see this watch the club

Face lay it over see that this is laying it over if you you get a high if you want to hit I promise you this go to the range today or tomorrow whenever I don’t know where when you can get outside do this I bet your bottom dollar that

You’ll hit the highest longest high draw shot you’ve ever hit in your life okay if when you finish your swing you have a high handle and you lay it over a high handle and you lay it over what’s going to happen is you’re going to hit this

High launching draw and you’re gonna be like holy smokes thank you Nick thank you Jordan thank you JT thank you TK all right so those are five things we got number we got a grip stronger grip we got the ball forward we’re going to increase that hip turn we’re going to

Tilt the upper body we’re going to give it the high handle Ary Palmer finish we’re going to lay it over and we are going to hit some Rockets They’re Gonna Fly along and go straight all right hey let’s get into some questions what do we got Nick let’s fire off some questions here

Mee stepen says presetting the lead shoulder higher is clear how is it kept High following the back swing where the trail shoulder goes higher okay great question all right who asked that Stephen all right hey this Ste Stephen thank you for that question I can tell

Right now Stephen is a student of the game Stephen is student of the game now before I forget again Nick’s gonna throw in that website youtube2 get yourself a discount YouTube 20 let’s give you something for free here not free we got kids Nick got three of them I got two of them

Well how about just a discount all right so the question is is well wait a minute Todd the lead shoulder’s high in the setup but in the box when it goes down you are 100% right okay you’re 100% right okay but here’s the thing when the shoulders

Rotate and you can practice this at home when the shoulders rotate they rotate at an angle see that rotate angle they don’t rotate flat they rotate an angle they’re here and then they’re here okay so when the lead shoulders a little higher and this and the trail shoulders

A little bit lower that kind of sets the shoulders on an angle for the lead shoulder to work back and down okay on the back swing so what I how I would answer that is this if you set your shoulders like this like level they’re going to want to swing and rotate

Level okay this is exaggerated Stephen but you get the point if I sit like this or worse if I sit like this I’m going to rotate okay so they’re going to want to rotate this way but if I set and I tilt it a little bit now I can rotate that

Shoulder back and down this way and then through now if you want a specific way to practice that just take out a golf ball take out one of your L alignment rods here okay and just put the alignment Rod put the golf ball you know there put your alignment rod

Basically on an extension of the target line right there take a club put across your shoulders like this and just rotate and get the But end of the club pointing at the alignment Rod see that bad pointing over there at the wall pointing inside that’s too much right at it

That’s a good General guideline might not be exact but you’re going to get the feel so good question there all right what else we got Nick okay who asked that jod jod okay thank you jod great question because you know people who come to us here at VLS golf

Some of you have played golf your whole life and you’ve been like 12 and now you’re 80 some of you are 56 and this is the first time you’ve ever played the game okay so the question is is that when should you be fit for a driver I

Would say this when you get to a point where you’re playing golf kind of on a regular golf is a regular part of your life maybe that’s once a week or twice a week or maybe it’s twice a month but you’re like you know what I see myself

Playing golf and I see myself doing that for a while I think it’s always good to get fit because the driver okay a lot of the drivers I hate to say this but but they’re not necessarily built for for the experienced golfer they’re built for tour Pros that doesn’t make them bad

Drivers okay here would be a good analogy I don’t know how many of you out there have kids who uh driving cars okay I’ve had a couple they’re older now and Nick hasn’t gotten there yet but you know what it’s like when your kid first starts

Driving okay that’s kind of you when you first start playing golf and a lot of the traditional drivers that are made are great but they’re in essence they’re like a Ferrari they’re like a Camaro you would never give your kid one of those because it goes way too fast it’s built for

Speed okay and so what you want to be what you want to understand is is that as an experienced golfer an older golf whatever I don’t drive as fast I don’t swing as fast okay so I need a driver that’s specifically built for me so we’re not here to sell you drivers but

You know that’s why in the max vert we put 11 degrees of Loft on it because it helps get the ball in the air a lot of traditional drivers have only nine degrees of Loft that’s not enough that’s why we made the shaft a little bit shorter it’s a little bit easier to

Handle okay most drivers are way too long okay so the to answer your question specifically I would say if you feel like golf is part of your life moving forward which I hope it is it’s good to get fit for a driver because if you go buy one off

Just the stock shelf there you might as well be giving your kid a Camaro okay and setting them out to learn how to drive could be a problem all right Nick what else we got James Mo your Trot back and to the right okay so here’s a good question so let’s

Talk about the a little bit here what should what should we be doing with the feet okay what I like to see and what we teach in the vertical line swing and this we cover this in the book The Bad line we’re working on a new book that’s

Specifically for short game that’ll be coming out late this summer but let’s just say this right here is my target line okay this is a good question I want you to feel this especially if you want to hit a nice high draw I want you to feel like

Your feet are slightly Clos so this is my target line I’ve got my Square shoes on I love these shoes right here Bob sent me these these things are fantastic if if you struggle with balance these got a little bit better traction and wider soles like that they’re really they’re actually they’re really

Comfortable too but they’re really good for balance okay they’re Square shoes but so when I’m set in there I want you to feel like your toes are slightly close this would be exaggerated see that see how my feet are kind of aimed to the right of the target

Line so this would be square I want you to feel like your toes are slightly closed now why is that well that’s going to help us swing the club more from the inside it’s going to help us and I’m not going to dive a bunch into all the

Science of the golf swing and things like that but just understand that when your stance is slightly closed all things being equal that’ll help you actually swing a little bit more from the inside okay now you here’s the thing you got to watch out for I’m glad you

Asked this question is that when we take the lead shoulder and we raise it a little bit okay it’s pretty easy to get our weight back on tril foot now here’s a question for somebody we like proper weight distribution at the setup who knows what that weight distribution is does anybody

Out there know what that is if you do type it in the chat we say it all the time it’s one of the cornerstones of the vertical line swing how much weight do we want on our lead foot how much weight do we want on our Trail foot

Initially if anybody knows that go ahead and throw it in the chat right there okay Bingo thank you Manny drilled it 6040 okay so when you tilt this this is fantastic look at Nick look at these we’re learning out there Steven’s got it Manny’s got thank you we want the 6040

We want 60 on the lead 40 on the trail so you got to watch that when sometimes when we bring this Trail shoulder up the weight goes back now we like to weight forward 60 40 here because there’s three ways it’s great Club head speed we talk about this in

The book three ways rotation vertical and lateral side to side we cover it in the book The Bad lie Nick can throw the link in there if you’re interested in it but um when you have that 60/40 it makes it easier to shift that weight and move

To the trail side and get the club going all right so good question I hope I answered that I know I went on a little bit of a tangent right there but I think it’s important that we get set up correctly in order to make that happen

All right Nick what else do we got since the question we’ll go to his question next is there any benefit to hovering the driver at a dress okay okay yes so Manny ask is there any benefit to hovering the driver all right well I know this there’s one guy who won a lot

Of Masters and uh his first name is Jack last name starts with an N I’m sure we all know who that is right Mr Jack Nicholas one of the greatest golfers of all time um Masters is next week this is exciting this is exciting um and Jack Nicholas hovered his

Driver another great driver of the golf ball little controversial guy right now Greg Norman some people love him some people don’t like him whatever we’re not here to talk about that we help you play a better golf but he hovered his driver also now what do we mean by hovering the

Driver what we mean is this and why does it work in my opinion it’s not a Cornerstone of the vertical line swing however it is a suggestion not a Cornerstone hip turn Cornerstone lead arm Direction up Cornerstone okay this is a suggestion and what we mean by that

Is that the driver just kind of hovers a little bit off the ground see that on the ground off the ground now why do we suggest that because when you’re hovering the club like this okay when you’re hovering the club like this you’re burying the weight of the club

Like I am holding the weight of this club in my hands when the club’s on the ground the ground is burying the weight okay and when you have weight in your hands or you’re holding something in your hands the natural takeaway is going to be more smooth and rhythmic versus

When it’s on the ground and you just grab it and go the tendency is to kind of snatch it now we did a great video and we might have even done a live session Nick can correct me on this if I’m wrong here but on the counter back swing

Sequence counter back swing sequence okay um Nick where could they where where could we is there an can we have them go somewhere and give us their email address so we could send that to them maybe maybe just chapter okay all right so Nick’s gonna send you that link if because we

Talked about the counter back swing sequence where it’s a way for us to create more Club head speed for experienced golfers nickel put it in the chat it’s free okay it’s free we’re not trying to get money out of it’s just free to help you play better golf but

One of the things we do in that is we put the club in front like this because the weight of the club the momentum of the club swing in and moving can help us create Rhythm and Temple so long- winded answer to your question Ry but in

Essence it’s a suggestion you yes to hover it Jack Nicholas did it Greg Norman did it it’s worth trying out might work for you all right Nick let’s get into a couple more questions we got time for a couple more here we got a great group today we appreciate

Everybody being here vs golf check it out vsg golf.com youtube20 for a discount 20% off what else we got nick uh let’s James just put this one in I was gonna this other one but this one I like more should you have a straight left leg at the Finish okay so the good

Question thank you James so what about on the finish what about on the Finish where should our weight be on the Finish okay well number one is the weight should be forward Boom for see that knees touching boom that’s one of our one of the simple Concepts knees touch and I’m gonna give

You a way to get this in I’m gonna give you a drill to do this in a second here knees touching all right now how much quite a bit pretty much all of your weight maybe 90% okay now should the left knee or left leg be

Straight I mean I would say yeah should be straight I think it should be straight I wouldn’t say it’s locked I would be careful with snapping your hips we’re not a not a fan of snapping anything don’t snap your hips don’t we don’t like that right we want to move

And be rhythmic so I would say yes it should be pretty straight you know a little bit of Bend in it is okay now the easiest way to get in that position I have found is um our right left drill it’s it’s our favorite drill of all time

Right left you’ve seen it for those of you who’ve seen it you know where where we’re going with this but it’s basically you just put the club in continuous motion back and through boom little right little left little right little left meaning when I say right my weight

And Club are on the right side when I say left my weight and Club are on the left side and when you put the club in continuous motion doesn’t have to be full speed what you’ll find is that your weight will naturally get forward and you’ll get into that position so looks

We got a couple other good questions there Nick let’s let’s answer a couple more of those before we kind of wrap her up here uh yeah how this one was from a little bit earlier how how do you pivot without swaying okay so this is a great

Question this was asked earlier how do we pivot without sway this is a great question okay this is a great question how do I pivot without sway all right well here’s the thing first of all watch my feet now I’m watch my Square shoes here Bob’s gonna love me because I’m

Mentioned the square shoes a couple times so this is a sway see that this is a sway now this is a sway because the weight’s going to the outside of my feet I don’t recommend doing this at home because I don’t want anybody twis in your ankle okay this is

Not a sway this is not a sway okay now why is it not a sway because the weight stays on the inside of the foot when the weight goes to the outside of theot foot that’s a sway when the weight stays on the inside of the foot that’s a pivot a

Load a coil whatever word you want to use now I have found 30 plus years of coaching golf that when we release the trail leg you’ve heard me say that a couple times today when you release the trail leg and you turn your hips it’s easier to keep

That weight on the inside of the foot when people start trying to restrict their knee they keep their Trail knee bent what happens is is that if they don’t have a lot of flexibility something’s got to give something’s got to give because the shoulders and arms

And Club are moving away from the target but yet you’re restricting that movement so something gives and typically in older experienced golfers it gives way in the foot and it goes like that and then they sway okay and they have no distance no power anything like that so let’s get one more

Question Nick we got one more question we got time for all right what do we got covered a lot position steady moving oh wow this is a great question do you know who came up with that uh okay okay thank you I don’t know I’m sorry for if we’re not pronouncing your

Name correctly but that’s one of the best Nick this is thumbs up on that one there we go that’s one of the best questions we’ve had because a lot of people don’t ask about head movement all right so let’s talk about head movement all right so a couple things first of

All this is a golden nugget write this one down the head moves let me say that again your head if you swing the golf club correctly is going to move don’t try to keep your head perfectly still okay now it shouldn’t be moving all over the place okay but it does move

A little little bit okay now here’s the thing here’s the thing okay when it moves it doesn’t move up and down a lot we don’t want this movement but a little bit of side to side movement is acceptable let me say that again up and down movement although there will be a

Little bit as you get into the Finish as you get into the Finish you’re going to release and get up a little bit we want to release that we don’t want to hurt our back we want to release the body okay we want to release the body a

Little bit but in the back swing the head from an up and down standpoint stays pretty steady but it does move a little bit side to side all right because this is a real killer I see this a lot with golfers especially new golfers they’ve been told to keep their

Head down so they get set up over the golf ball and I’m going to give you a little tip on this okay but chin is down in their and they look like this I don’t see anybody playing golf on TV looks like that do you take your chin Lift It

Up Lift It Up okay don’t be afraid for your chin to come up so you can rotate and you can turn so what should you be doing here’s what you should be doing okay this little Golden Nugget this is another we’ve got some good golden

Nuggets today so let me this I gave this actually to one of my I’ve given this to a couple of my tour professionals and you know regular Weekend Warriors like the rest of us this works for a lot of golfers so here’s what I want you to

Do okay I want you to focus on your eyes not your head your eyes and where your eyes are looking so if you feel like you have too much sway side to side what I want you to do is I want you to focus on

Your Trail eye which for me is my right eye that my trail eye stays looking at the golf ball okay see that so my trail eye stays looking at the golf ball when my trail eye stays looking at that ball that helps me stay more centered and less

Movement okay versus looking at it out of my left eye my lead eye okay if you feel like on the back swing that your head’s coming to up and to down what I want you to focus on is your gaze and try to keep your eyes your gaze the same distance

From the ball almost imagine that your eyes Okay were connected to the ball like a plane of glass or something there and it moves but it stays on that same angle it doesn’t get further away like I can see the Gaze is now further away from the

Ball The Gaze is now closer and when you focus on your eyes and your gaze what’s happening there is that’s a different type of sense in the body versus the head moving okay hopefully that makes sense all right now here’s what I want you to remember we’ve talked about some great

Ways to hit the driver okay stronger grip ball position a little bit forward increase that hip turn get some upper body tilt and give it that high handle Arnold Palmer finish okay now next week the team is going to the Masters we’re going to the Masters we’re going to take

Some pictures we’re going to do some really cool stuff so when we come back we’re going to share a lot of that with you so next week we’re not going to be here but we will be here on April 16th same time same place April 16th we’ll be

Here and we’re going to talk about how to improve your contact with your Fairway Woods how to improve your contact with your Fairway woods and Nick’s gonna throw in there one more time the vsg golf.com the discount code code youtube20 now I’ve given you some real golden nuggets here today some real

Golden nuggets that hopefully help you start playing beer golf but here’s what I’m going to leave you with I want you to always remember that you do not have to swing like a tour pro in order to play Great Golf
