Tournament and then we’ll some some Caitlyn clar Clark and Angel Ree and some NFL draft and some candy but we’re going to use a game we’ve used before headline plus take and then Dominique will give us the reality of the situation so here’s the headline for Yukon Yukon blew out Illinois to make

The final four they went on a 30 to nothing run they shut down teren Shannon they you know hurly out coach Brad Underwood it went on and on and on Yukon has won its past 10 NCA tournament games by at least 13 points um they have been leading almost the entire tournament

They’ve played they’ve been annihilating teams here’s the take Yukon with the best back court in the country with multiple potential lottery picks is unbeatable and should be recognized as an unprecedented Dynasty in modern college basketball where it’s so hard to develop and retain players the reality

Well first of all yeah the reality is first of all I want to say I’m enjoying the tournament and I feel like I need to say that because like been talking like I feel like we spend more time on here talking about how college basketball

Sucks and how it’s dead and how it’s all been ruined you give me some Stakes yeah give me one and done I don’t give a damn what level is and I can’t disagree with people who still complain about like the quality of the basketball because there

Have been some bad games a lot of open shots being missed but it don’t matter to me it’s still fun because it’s intense and as people play hard and I feel the same way like I’ll I’ll watch seveny olds play flag football if they’re playing like with stakes and

I’ll be locked in because that matters so that aside yes I mean I I can’t I’m not g to go full greeny on here and say that Yukon could beat a NBA team uh or even make the playoffs yeah I’m not GNA Go full greedy I think he I never saw it

Him say it but I heard a lot bunch of people jump on him but he said he was joking which um I guess maybe maybe not e either way uh they’re really good and i’ I’ve been watched them all year I watch a lot of Big 10 Basketball because

I watch Maryland so like I’m familiar with Zack Ed from last year and this year but I’m not as familiar with Yukon the way they’ve been playing except for this tournament run and last year’s tournament run and they do seem particularly unbeatable every other team that you look at in this

Tournament feels like it has a at least one weakness and be hon honest with you I’m not even sure I would say that I’m not even sure I would say these team have won weaknesses as much as the other teams seem like they have won strength and they like other weaknesses

But like all right this is their thing and that’s that’s normal for for college team it’s like hey we got is one we got a couple really good players or this is our style of Play We Shoot really well uh we got one really great big man they

Got everything it feels like and that’s why you could understand why people would be hyperbolic in their analysis because you want to say something that is uh something that is um big enough to speak for how impressive they’ve been and you jump to the point of saying they

Could beat NBA teams which is ridiculous but there is no college team that’s decidedly better than them and Houston’s out which was kind of the only other team that people thought was close to as good but they aren’t either so it does feel like we are uh on a coronation

March for our man Hurley the good Hurley and and the weirdest the weirdest matchup could still be one with with Alabama where they just shoot so many threes um I mean like Alabama and it’s just the beginning because they have yeah of course they’re going to lose a lot of players um kingan’s

Probably going to go to the draft people think he could be a potential top five pick because he’s defensive anchor Stephen Castle their freshman guard is a McDonald’s guy he’s going to be a lottery Pick and he’s just decided to fit in because they have the best back

Court in the country he’s filled a role and that’s pretty unique that’s what you used to see with great college teams is McDonald’s guys who could be one and duns um fill in and not demand shots the entire time so a lot of this has to come back to hurly’s coaching he’s clearly

Become the best coach in college basketball as well yeah I mean I guess it depends on how you define coaching and it sounds like part of we are obviously recruiting is part of the job of coaching and I’m not going to say that I was watching this game closely

Enough or am sophisticated enough to see all the changes or adjustments that Hurley makes through the course of the game the big Advantage they have is that they’re bringing in freshmen that are great onto a team that’s already really great so like that is then caliper would

Be the good the best coach in the country caliper is bringing in guys I’m not I’m not oh yeah yeah I’m not disagreeing with with um the recruiting part but I think this I was talking myself to the answer the the answer is like actually implementing those players

In an effective way and that’s the hard part I guess that’s what the where the coaching comes into play and he deserves a ton of credit for it I’m sure you heard um I want you to guess what my reaction was when uh um Hurley Dan Hurley was being interviewed after the

Game and uh who was interviewing him I think it was uh well whatever one of those um sine guys was interviewing him and said my wife or your wife told me that you were crying before the game how do you think I reacted did I roll my

Eyes was I excited by it was I moved to tears did you see that clip where they they I think you had to you had to have completely rolled your eyes yeah I felt guilty but I did roll my eyes cuz he was like I just love these guys so much you

Weren’t starting to feel bad for Dan Hurley no I wasn’t feeling bad for Dan Hurley but I did catch myself for a second because his son I was like all right maybe maybe those are real I guess what annoyed me or not annoyed me but

Which made me roll my eyes was his wife told the sideline reporter like come on I’m gonna be mad at my wife and she start leaking to people that I’m crying unless we have already arranged that I would like the story to come out of this game to be that I’m emotionally

Connected to this team I’m just a cynic I feel bad as this comes out my mouth I’m upset he’s a big he’s a big crier it’s cry times yeah yeah nothing’s wrong with crying I don’t have any Judgment of crying just keep yourself am I being a

Men what what who are you this is a Coach K shot this is making Coach K he’s coach Coach K without the back problems but no I mean this is this is really interesting this isn’t just a coach who has the highest salary cap he’s he’s

Built a team that he has great shooting guards he’s every everyone on that team can play um and that’s what reminded me of Villanova it’s like you go back to these teams and it’s like it’s not a it’s not stars and scrubs he’s built a very egalitarian system where people

Have specific roles and this is like um has been what makes college basketball great over time it’s like you build and develop these teams that work really well together what’s the difference between Ed and kingan like I I’ve watched them both through the course of this tournament and Ed as far back as

Last year and I heard you say that kingan might move on to the next level after the season and no one really seems that high on on Zack Edy despite the fact that he’s been dominating and like I get the reasons why people aren’t as

High on Zack Edy but I don’t see kingan out there looking all that much more like quick so the foot right yeah I mean so like I’m this is um I’m taking this from Jay Kyle man who does uh draft work from the ringer but he talked about high

Draft picks and he he said the teams are often looking for offensive hubs or defensive anchors um and someone who can step in and be one of those cling is obviously not going to be an offensive Hub but he’s more mobile he runs well I don’t see the switchable Defender type of

Thing but I see useful Defender I mean this is a historically weak draft so if you can get someone who can play defense like Walker Kessler that’s someone who’s gonna end up in the lottery and that could be a reasonable com um here’s the thing Illinois went 0 for 19 on field

Goal attempts contested by Donovan kinging yeah that’s that’s that’s a defensive Hub yeah that makes sense but yeah I I guess Ed got a big block to end this game but the big knock on him is like lateral quickness and like his offensive game is is is obsolete in the

NBA I was thinking about how I appreciate that we have the back to the baskets up and his game seems pretty efficient but it’s because he has 69ine guys guarding him and he’s 74 which won’t be the same case on the on the next level because I was thinking this

Whole time is like they say this is not an efficient like way to play offense sure as hell looks efficient to me but like I get why it won’t work after this well any anyone can if if it’s efficient enough anything can be efficient like Joel embiid made made taking 15 Footers

Efficient this year uh boban in very limited minutes Can Be an Effective offensive player that’s super efficient in the paint that’s what that’s what Ed is gonna be like I just don’t see kingan getting pick and rolled to death I don’t know if he’s he’s I don’t see him he’s

Not jiren Jackson or Anthony Davis like switching off pick and rolls I think that’s very clear but he he runs and moves better laterally than uh I was I was thinking about this that match up we might get that match up in the final I guess um we’re recording

And they will play LSU Angel ree Kim mili Haley vanle in the elite a which is a rematch to the title game last year Caitlyn Clark averaged almost 32 points a game this year has been a little bit up and down but was excellent in the

Sweet 16 LSU who is preseason number one had a tumultuous season off the courp but is really rounded into form here’s the take the media is turning this game into a race war and it’s basically turned into into like a historic boxing match and it’s the thing that’s

Uncomfortable is that it’s Angel Reesa said we don’t hate each other they’ve all said they don’t hate each other and it’s starting to feel like it’s not about the genuine interest in the growth of the sport it’s about like judging the people who are going to root for either sides yeah

Um I’m not okay so like I can’t disagree with you but I’m not sure this is different than what we’ve done so like are you arguing that everyone every professional sport in our history of our country has grown because of genuine interest in growth of sport no it’s

Grown because story lines that we care about you get and outcomes that matter to us like I mean bird verse magic gez Charlie like I mean it’s a like whether we should or shouldn’t it is the foundation of every fight that’s ever happened in this country every mixed

Martial arts every big boxing match is always about us vers them in this particular case it’s no surprise we’re doing it again um I saw Haley van lith brought up race uh in response yeah in response to all of this stuff but it was funny to me

I mean I wasn’t uh I didn’t immediately think but I was all right I’m on high alert I want high alert and then he was like I’mma put you at ease I voted for Obama twice he didn’t say that but he essentially did by saying that I wanted

Lamar which is funny because it’s not like Patrick is like uh White well this is this is the new one I was reading for Angel re is you this is the one I can’t wait the thing I think is a little bit weird about this all is like okay first

Of all I don’t really think this is a referendum on Caitlyn Clark’s college career and her ability level like you know what she’s done is unbeliev people will take it that way if she doesn’t win and I think that it’s also not like you like burden magic or boxing actors are

Very mono Mano and it’s like on one side you have Caitlyn Clark who is sort of a historic scoring guard and then Angel Reese who’s like the theoretical star for LSU it’s just a really deep team and they don’t play the same position she’s more or less an undersized Center or

Like a big down low it’s like it feels like LeBron playing Lance Stevens if Lance Stevenson had a way better team than LeBron did in certain ways right um and so like the thing I near as as good as Caitlyn Clark yeah I wouldn’t say nowhere near but she’s not as good as

Caitlyn Clark but she is the kind of face of that team even though I think uh no not Bley but but um Flo right she’s better than right FL she’s better than she’s the better best player on that team and they’re they’re they’re just a team and they like it’s it’s a very

Different situation but I just think in terms of like the question I’d have is so much of this um has is the widest thing I’ve ever done in my life and I hate it so much don’t worry you’re rooting for Angel Reese I’m not I want I want but like the

I I know this point has been made a bunch of times so we don’t have to we don’t have to um harp on it but like Kaylin Clark is kind of an the court too which I don’t mind like why are we and I guess the the real ju

Opposition was made between UCLA and LSU in that game where that article was written but like we remember from last year people tried to prop up uh Caitlyn Clark like she was a goody too sh was no she not she a dog and I like that about her anyway you were making another

Another Point definitely I was just gonna say that I do have a question about women’s college basketball and that I wonder and we obviously don’t know the answer to this a lot of this is going to change but how much of the growth that we’ve seen in the past now

Like 14 months is sustainable or much of it is it attached to Caitlyn Clark being the protagonist of the sport and there being a lot of cultural impact of that because I don’t know if next year without someone who you’re trying to see sort of conquer the tournament on a one

Man or one woman team if it’ll be the same sort of it’ll be if it’ll be as interesting that’s that’s what happens in college sports with any great player but it seems particularly tenuous as she’s been so important to the growth over the sport one of our hobby hoices

On this show is like the professionalization of sports and like the combination of entertainment and and Athletics and I think that we are getting closer and closer to the most like powerful entertain or most power powerful sporting products we have are getting more and more Merit to like the

Most popular like entertainment products and I think you need a protagonist which you always have in basketball and we’re getting introduced to new ones so like maybe Juju wat can becomes that person it’s very unlikely that we’ll get to a point where we get somebody like um

Caitlin Clark again who was just so perfect who like stayed in Iowa and did ridiculous moves and shot from place on the floor that we haven’t before and also being white like it doesn’t hurt like it was it made her unique and stand out in a game that this I guess Paige

Becker before her was balling but a game that’s been come to largely be dominated by black women who go to South Carolina as we’re talking about yukon’s dominance talk about someone else who’s been incredibly dominant as that team with Don Staley but I think what happens is

It’s like the stock market and that it’s trending up over a long period of time and this will be a a big spike and of course the ratings are going to dip next year but I think looking at the ratings dip next year because Caitlyn Clark is

Gone as like a step back would be a mistake like it’s what’s going to happen you know like the ratings I assume in the NBA are going to go down when you lose a couple Stars they’re going to go up and down but you hope that this crop

Of like kids for lack of better word um like I don’t know when you start really getting into sports from like 10 to like 16 who grew up in having like the most formidable times of their like Sporting Life be dominated by women’s college basketball that they develop uh

Connection to it the same way that we develop connections to our Sports and that they’ll continue to watch and of course someone will fall off and come back depending on the moment but overall I think you look at the Grand trajectory of this sport it’s I without looking at

The numbers I’m sure that next year it’ll be higher than it was 10 years ago which is yeah impressive yeah and somebody else will come around and do something crazy and give us a reason to watch maybe it’ll be juju going after Caitlyn’s record in a

Few years and then we’ll all be locked in again or maybe it’ll be someone else um yeah fuy down at uh uh South Carolina just like she has the moves that I think will get our attention the Kyrie esque ball handling that we like damn you don’t see too many women playing like

That yeah I mean uh just a damn shame the committee put them in the same region they should be I should be a final four G they I I thought that this redeemed them because neither of these teams are guaranteed to get there like I don’t feel all that

Confident uh in either of these teams getting to the final for I get what you’re saying but I would rather maybe I’m just more risk averse than you as we’ll see in our draft later is I’m not taking no home runs let me just get on

Base they gave us the game that we wanted I wanted this game we’re gonna get it fine fine all right let’s um speaking of drafts let’s move to the NFL draft um here’s the headline this has been sort of floating around The Ether the Vikings are trying to trade up to grab a

Quarterback at the top of the draft the take whether the Vikings get JJ McCarthy who it seems most like the most likely outome if they to number four Drake May if he drops or Jaden Daniels that QB will have the best rookie season because of the situation they’re in that’s a

Situation where you’re gonna have Justin Jefferson who might be the best receiver other than Tyreek Hill on the planet Jordan Addison T.J Hawkinson he will come back midseason and an above average offensive line that can be very good when Christian derasa is healthy the reality is what yeah they still need

Some bodies on defense but they have a good coach on the defensive side of the ball I think that I would like to say yes because you hit on all the points that I think are important but oh I forgot one Kevin oconnell who’s a very quarterback friendly coach easy yeah

That’s the difference that might put it in in your favor because I would say that I really like um the bear situation too they have tackles they have receivers they have a better defense um but they don’t have the proven track record at the coaching quarterback uh

Situation there that you there so I don’t think you’re crazy but I think given the talent that uh you’ll have in Chicago and the talent of Caleb Williams I think you might be wrong but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone balls out and yeah I I’m not coming with a

Strong take here no I think this I think this one’s fascinating Okay the reason obviously like we wouldn’t be shocked if it ends up being a Jaden Daniels or um a drake may like we you hear you hear Nate Titus is one of the best quarterback like evaluators talking about how Drake

May is closer to Caleb Williams as a prospect right and he’s like a he’s a one-1 in many drafts Jaden Daniels you have orlovski saying the same thing like those guys have really high ceilings because of the play they’ve shown and their physical tools the interesting one

To me is if it’s JJ McCarthy this is someone who was the Brock party of college football all he did was win and get criticized for not doing enough um he’s got a lot of physical tools he’s big he’s fast um he weighed a lot more than we thought he might yeah he’s

Really young um and he does exactly what the scheme tells him to do that’s one of the JJ McCarthy things like he’s a processor who’ll be like this is what I what what my coach tells me to do so you get him in a KOC system right with those

Weapons and that’s the one that I think would be mind-bending where it’s like what if we look up and statistically he’s had the best year because of the situation that would validate one of the maxims of the show that institutional stability matters more than anything the most interesting pick in this draft and

And it does it it will challenge our institutional stability maximum Maxim is the Patriots and what they’re going to do with their pick there and everyone thinks they’re gonna get a quarterback and I think it probably depends on oh go ahead should should we get should we get

To this this because the other side of the coin because we can we can bake this into one which is the other the other headline is the patriots who have the third pick right now it’s presumably they’ll take the remaining of Jaden Daniels or Drake May after Caleb

Williams goes but the take is the don’t have a roster to develop a quarterback yet so they should trade down the pick and get assets and this is partially to delay the clock on Eliot wolf and Gerard Mayo who don’t want their quarterback defining their tenure before they built anything so that’s the

Other side of it yeah I my instinct is you need to build up before you get that quarterback but I also recognize that you can’t not draft a quarterback with the number three overall pick so like they’ll have to trade back and maybe this could connect

With the Vikings is trade back with the Vikings because the Vikings I think have two first round picks right they could get those two first round picks but it’s also this is another maximum of the show is how Absolut super for children and dumb people I would generally say don’t

Draft a quarterback if you’re not ready to develop them which they’re clearly not ready to develop them but it depends on the quarterback that’s available and If Drake May if you evaluate Drake may as a hair behind Caleb Williams you draft him and uh there are

Some people who feel the same way about jayen Daniels so if you feel like jayen Daniels is the best quarterback in this draft then you got to draft him and try to figure out a way to protect him he’ll make the team slightly better but it’s higher risk like you are

More likely to both fail that you are to both succeed if you draft a quarterback at that spot because expectations change and the pressure changes and all that stuff you said about JJ McCarthy being a processor they just had a guy that everyone convinced us was the perfect processor M Jones and

He didn’t have the right stuff around him in order to process some development so the circumstances do matter I’m supposed to give you some hard fast reality take but I’m really unsure about this one here’s the reality take if you can get a franchise quarterback and you

Don’t have to trade up to get the farm to get it and you evaluate that guy is a franchise quarterback yeah you take the bleeping franchise quarterback yeah you can set up a team and win without a guy that we’ve we’ve gone through this over

And over again on the show but it makes it way harder like look at the Texan situation last year on paper we were mocking them for everything for the way they traded their picks to be two and three the roster they’re GNA put around CJ strad we didn’t even know if CJ St

Was going to be good because he was throwing to a Wilson jsn and Marvin Harrison Jr they had a high grade on that guy because of the way he threw the ball and he went out last year and now he’s a top five quarterback in the league and that situation looks great

And coaching matters too with that but the franchise quarterback has a lot to do with it because if they didn’t get the right guy we would be being idiot I think this depends on who’s making the decision because if I am um Robert Craft or maybe Robert Craft is a bad example

But if I’m the owner of the team and I’m gonna own a team over the course of 20 30 40 years every time I get a chance at a franchise quarterback I’m taking them but if I’m mayo or a wolf then I need to get the right one like the pressure is

Higher for them I’d be more concerned because while you did give us that example of uh last and you could um you could find isolated examples of it working that way but we both know that I can give you 10 examples of someone drafting a quarterback who was rated as

High as CJ St and and it not working out so like the odds are not in your favor if this is who you’re going to hit your wagons to so yeah you take as this like the lottery you take as many shots as you can at that franchise quarterback if
