[Applause] hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome back to round one feature card here in Houston Texas Rock Park specifically for the Texas state disc golf championships stop four on the disc golf pro tour I’m Jeremy coing joined by Paul ulber big berry commentary bringing you the this

Weekend yes sir and man we saw some good golf some bad golf on the front line typical for this track I mean it’s just a big time challenge for these guys even the best player in the world the best players in the world are struggling you

See all that red you see a little green I’m hoping that this back n is going to see more green than red I think it will and I yeah I think that that’s going to be the trend back n’s a little more scorable uh let’s see if one of these

Guys or a couple of these guys can get on track light up this back nine yeah we got five players the hot five under in front nine that that pace will certainly get you a title here in Houston this week if you could manage to shoot 30 under par out here

You are going to be winning this tournament I think I think you’re right I think that’s the Mark I think 30 under is going to be the the ticket home but whole 10 is a par for 720t that’s good start if you want to get to that 30

Under Mark you’re going to need to get this one low ceiling everywhere really tight straight shot off the bat out of bounds left right wraps around the whole entire basket and then your second shot no matter what happens is going to be that low ceiling we’re talking about yeah and you don’t

Really get the opportunity to get a ton of distance off the T unless you do this unless you do this and if you do then you can really cut this hole down but this gets away from Ni fortunately rolls back to the middle of the Fairway but

That could have easily found out of bounds in the end he’s going to be just scrambling for the par at this point iagra aggressive play today with that right to left cross this right here is also the other way that you cut this hole down a lot I mean Calvin has got

The perfect driving technique to throw 500 feet on a hole like this and that is just blistered down the Fairway yeah one of the only players that has that driving technique really this is your typical shot beautiful right down the middle but with that crosswind it gets a little drop’s in the middle

350 yeah 360 I think that’s accurate I think Calvin’s going to be about 290 to 300 but he’s going to have that low ceiling I wouldn’t be surprised if he was even closer than that I mean he really got everything there yeah and it makes it

Easier cuz he’s going to be able to just play higher heer skip shot somewhere left side’s where you want to be as a righty backand play more yeah more open Nico going roller once again this time it is starting to push out to the right flipping too quick J and that is going

To most likely find out of bounds it was almost great it was I mean from back there that effort was incredible I didn’t think he’d have such a opportunity to even play for the birdie still here’s that low ceiling Carter find a way to get inside Circle

To yeah that’s a long putt very good we didn’t see Carter’s best golf on the front nine but he is certainly a very talented player and I’m looking to looking forward to seeing him get some birdies here on this back man this is good keeping that nose

Down low ceiling so good that’s like germ style that is I I saw a mirror of myself a much shorter version of myself just that was beautiful shot from nichos actually I wish I could throw it that good is what I should say here’s that Skipper yeah he might have been

Inside 300 or right about 300 yeah I mean he I mean I don’t think he got fully 500 off the te but I think he was close to it go okay okay on the board you called it great little putt here finds the leftand corner with a errant drive and

See that putt that he missed on the front nine on hole eight that hit the right side low and spit out this time on the opposite side of the pole low left it catches Nico to Safe par steps it in oh that looks so good and that is not what we’re used to

Seeing from Nicholas but every once in a while they get away from us got to make that Calvin is still just not interested in whatever par is set for for each hole he is now four under with no gray scores on the entire scorecard yeah a that’s a tough one for

Nich Los he threw a great shot to get there and honestly the t-shot even though it wasn’t remarkable was basically everything he wanted it to be he cut the hole in half two 360t shots that are accurately thrown is all you need to do and in the end he’s just got

To tap in that close putt Calvin running away from the card a bit Jordan Ry currently the top player through 10 holes in the field he is at six under yeah hole 11 is a is a pretty tough home term it is a par for it’s 834 ft I think

It plays a little shorter as the crow flies but if you’re going to take the Fairway all the way around it plays all of the four or the 834 ft mandatory on the right out of bounds on the entire left hand side you’re going to see rollers turnovers straight shots here to

Get in position and then over by the green you really got to watch out on the right side the out of bounds comes in pretty tight over there and there’s a pond you could lose your disc forever I mean if you had a wet suit you

Might be good Calvin what a drive goes the man that is really good angle good distance off the te he’s going to like that one ah Jaden Ry I’m so sorry Jaden I was close yeah it’s better than me calling uh Kevin kefir I called him Kyle and now I

Just call him Kyle every time I see him now it’s just become our thing so Jaden I might be calling you Jordan for now on is this going to roll or this this is cutting left oag it might cut enough he’s got that really flippy it needs to

Cut enough that I am surprised that had such a strange angle yeah that’s going to be money in the money Zone probably about 380 to the pin 360 I think roller really is the best play for this hole for for most of the field if you have what Calvin has

Then obviously the air shot’s great but the roller really gets you into a fantastic spot when thrown well and Nico just Lac that you cannot throw a better roller helping wind I mean it’s intimidating wind cuz if you flip it too fast for sure it’s going to burn over to

The right but the left to right will keep your roller going kind of straight for a long period of time here’s Nicholas with just a baby softy flip oh he is so good at that shot shape wow that is so good and every time he throws

A disc it just always seems to want to land flat soft yeah soft and flat Carter throwing an into the circle okay we’ll call it we’ll call it circle circle one Calvin going to go wide over the be for maybe a half second yeah maybe even

Less than that like that’s good stuff he doesn’t like those fire five in a row now Nico needs to pay off this great drive if this stays straight it’s fantastic yeah it’s fantastic that’s as good as they make them yep that’s the best you’ll ever see whole 11 played

Yeah okay Carter two in a row that’s what you got to do back here I hear a young fella NE cloth getting the birdie and we are about to see a starf frame on this hole that is incredible whole playing over par o hi it’s in there it is and Nico just

Tapping it out great star frame yeah that really in field Oh I thought this was going to be one of the hardest holes in the course um just because it danger looms for so many shots that you can find out of bounds left right on the

T-shot and on the approach yeah I saw a lot of people on my card find the out of- bounds here I should have found it I hit the Pando with a horrible out of bound shot but I was safe he got saved yeah yeah 460 feet stands between you

And the basket here on whole 12 Par 3 we’re going to have a headwind there is out of bounds on the right side and also a low ceiling as you approach this green here so a flex play wide and low that has a lot of energy skipping back

Towards the basket or is just something that’s you know if you can throw 460 straight at it like Calvin can then don’t even Throw It Wide uh this is just gonna it’s going to be a gray Paul there just I mean unless he does the smart thing and takes the bogey

Then he turns around and gets five more birdies afterwards it’s worth thinking about did you see that video that that Joey posted about Calvin playing this whole back nine with just a Road Runner a 168 road runner no no yeah Zach Melton bet him that he couldn’t shoot better than three

Over and Calvin shot three under with just a road run including putts oh wow you got to watch it it’s pretty sick he just Bullseye this hole with a roller I’m like how do you not throw it the day after that yeah he should have maybe that was in his head a

Little I didn’t get it cuz I was worried about the out of bounds on the right and the three trees that don’t come in the way at all Nico’s got this flat I like it and needs a hurry is it going to skip enough that’s the question is this going to stay out

Wide yeah he’s asking for some help and he gets it that’s out just outside Circle one towards that direction I think it helps he’s barking I don’t know what about but he’s letting us know so that’s what it feels like Calvin must be thinking right now

NE Claus never really had a chance with that one from that distance in this wind it’s hard to really commit to anything that really has a good chance you just kind of throw it low and hope it maybe Rises a bit and kind of like that but not qu not entirely like

That opportunity loss there for Nico on a hold the average perfectly par at three not surprising there’s out of bounds on the right I’m sure people were throwing it over there trying to get the extra distance about a quarter of the field maybe a little bit less than a quarter of the

Field with the birdies and the same amount with Bogies Nico with a stylish forehand and put stay in there these ones do tend if you hit them right on the stripe to come back sometimes you got to be careful with those Tappings my CH I’m the best I’m the best I’m the best I’m the hanging My all right you think you’re good at the wide open well how about you try this little nugget part three 282 straight as an arrow sneaky little route on the left hand side don’t think anybody’s going to go that way intentionally left to right Drifter backand let’s see

If Robert can show us how it’s done oh look at that Force anheiser angle wow and that’s going to play a bank off those little B trees by the basket those things are pretty thick if you get in there you’re going to be styed but you normally bounce off of

Them oh yeah who cares look at that Comm a lot of on it yep that’s the only way you can get through those that’s a good birdie well now you know what you’re trying to do drift it you want it lower than that yeah this is less left to

Right movement just a straight beine he wants to slow it down though he need that to be that’s perfect but a little slower can see the wind picking up the the confidence and the ability that Calvin has with that type of shot shape is just i’ think I’d give up my left

Arm I don’t think I Would I mean I’d have to go back to being like 20 again so I’d actually get to have years in front of me to use that ability but that’s a double that’s a double standard don’t think you know what that means nope but it makes sense in my brain

It’s all that matters actually I’m a commentator I need to make sure that I oh boy let these people know what it means so I’m sorry about that I’m sorry for being silly in my brain doesn’t bother me Nico with a nice shot there and oh NLOS actually kicked short of the

Mandatory so he still has to make the Mando uh oh cut roll and yeah that’s that is awful this round not going nass’s way for the most part after ever since the 200 start through two on a hole you typically think he he’d be getting most

Of the time yeah I wouldn’t be surprised to see him finish this whole underpar by Sunday but it’s going to be a bogey start CER off the top left Calvin coming back for another birdie sure yeah I mean this guy started off two over through two looked like uhoh what’s going on

With the Calvin that we know and now we’re looking at the Calvin we know just so dialed in with the flat to slight anheiser to slight Hiser and if you have those three angles and they’re all interchangeable with ease I what’s stopping you oh nothing when you can

Throw at 550 and you’re also hitting gaps at 400 plus I mean it’s just and you can make 28 Footers pretty good combo it’s a pretty good combo yeah Calvin hasn’t been well I guess he was kind of close at Austin he made a good late run but oh he was one

Put away from a playoff okay so he was really close but we didn’t really see him because it was all Chase Card stuff and we’re used to seeing him on feature group and Lead card not just first round we’re normally used to seeing him later rounds in the in the

Tournament haven’t seen that this year so far but whole 14 par 4 71t shot you have to keep it straight and you want to fade a little left to open up your angle into this basket which kind of dog likes the right on the last bit of the Fairway

Pretty tricky two shot par 4 though we got Mason Ford here from the Fairway this seems be a pretty decent Drive look at that forehand Paul talk about effortless do you know Mason had it like that I played with him once he was through a lot of good

Backhands yeah that I I didn’t know he had the 360t forehand game beautiful approach fearlessly rocking the mustache too got to appreciate that uh oh oh very that’s kind of where we saw Anthony have some issues in their practice round oh man e going with the flex come out right

Now fantastic yeah that’s that’s exactly what he was trying to to draw up there that’s perfect I like this from Carter needs to get Heiser yeah I mean once you get through the Gap as long as you’re not right side that’s tough with that win though it’s

Tough you’d like to be left but I think once you get past that little stuff there in the in the middle you’re in a good spot dig yep yeah nass in like forcing that wide play I like for the best angle I like the higher play you

Can see those stakes in that last shot there how close they were to where Nas landed but there also the very thick grass just gobbled his disc right up he’s going to have the best look yeah he can see the basket I don’t know if n Nico and um Carter will be

Able to see the basket sit oh that so helpful that little tree Nick I think yeah he’s still in the 45 foot range I thought it might have been drifting over right side Woods maybe but I actually I think Nico had a good look at it there is this going to hold turn

The whole way it’s going to fade out a little early see and that’s why that’s tough it’s cuz you have to put it on an extreme and heer angle Right In This breeze it’s difficult shot to play even this one does he get away with it yeah I mean for the most

Part yeah it doesn’t really do anything bad it’s just not going to be a birdie most likely another par if he can slow hold on a second Paul well that’s fine yeah that’s friendly there on the back side of the green yeah Carter’s fine here so little nose up putter

Shot good angle too good try yeah that’s perfect give it a chance but also leave it close you can’t ask for much more than that Nicholas no n first here 55f footer I think I’m just going to say Nico loss for both of them for the rest

Of round so I don’t get it wrong I’ll get them both wrong but they’ll equally get the wrong treatment because I keep wanting to say one and saying the other’s name well Nicholas needs this one slow round so far and Nico lost a little bit high and

Long all right that’s played out I won’t say gave him the benefit of the doubt on the front with the one under yeah it’s but it’s going yeah it’s not it hasn’t been his round for sure Calvin does save the par tough back nine for Calvin so far only two

Under yeah we got a lot of holes left now it’s it’s been a great turnaround for him especially having crazy huh does he have three bogeys I think he has three Bogies mhm so nine birdies through 14 holes I like Carter’s tappins I wish he could harness the that stroke a little

Farther out seems like it changes a little bit but I’m never worried about him tapping in a little 20-footer you know mhm well he is now tied NE Los at one Under as we go to one of the easiest holes on the course in fact I think it is the easiest hole 15 yeah this is near nearly half stroke below par it’s not 372 it’s actually closer to 345 I think they remarked the T sign uh before the

Event started but it’s just a wide open forehand and Mason just showed us what he’s got from this range the hole before how far did you say it was about 345 okay oh this is money yeah they taped over the original distance on the t- sign with the N number thought I was

Going to get a little more flare than that typically do and the grass as short as it is as he gets that one nice and over the rim and in it it just doesn’t want to skip right on this grass you you really just want to come in with a high

Spike as opposed to the low wide skip that you’re more traditionally used to with grass that looks like look at this play you cheeky son of a gun how is that like just drive it into the ground at that angle and it just is going to work

Yeah ni with the Lefty yeah pulling that out give it the height though that’s not going to be it and it’s just not going to get any run on this grass two wide there for Carter KN CLA going the low line that ain’t coming back no watch this go skip

W it did Skip okay very good the s to the um Masons yeah but it got a nice flare off of there it just got enough EG Edge right there at the very last second I’ve been seeing n Nico was really doing well with the forehand for a

While uh like two seasons ago his forehand was dialed in as Carter misses this one low but last couple of events he’s been going back to this Lefty form that he used to bust out in tournaments in the early 2010s he’s been having some pain is that

What it is yeah okay birdie for Calvin yeah he says when he throws a lot of them he’s been getting a little pain so he’s shying away from the sidearm which he you’re actually seeing a lot more of lately a lot of players having some of

That yeah issue oo off the top of the band but in the basket for n Claus well shoot we have two of them on this card sure Nico Calvin uh recently um Simon Simon I know that MC Beth’s had some elbow pain Austin Hanam Yeah Austin Hannam’s not throwing any

Forehand yep which is his strength one of his biggest strengths yeah for sure like to call him Austin Cannon when he’s throwing it because he can just throw 450 inches off the ground K really running away from this card he’s right there tied with a bunch of players for fourth place only three

Players at the eight under Mark right now technical par three what are you trying to do here Paul a little left to right Drifter with a putter off the te on that right side Gap you will see some sidearm flexes to try to beat some of those is

Well guarded on the left hand side though uh some sidearm flip UPS as well what’s the best route this one oh we’re going to see Anthony Bella go straight at it with the backhand turnover with his Luna yeah this is the way you want to play it right

Here if you can get something just drifting slight can’t go wrong with that and it makes a gap the biggest it can possibly be you don’t get a lot of ground play either yeah that’s that’s really good see if Calin can match that looks like it yeah I think he can again this

Is and that’s just Child’s Play for Calvin I feel like it’s going to be Child’s Play for this guy this is his favorite shot shape I don’t want to jinx him I know it’s just it’s not that he’s been way off his line today but it’s just been a little

Off so I mean look at this yeah that okay yeah all right gotcha favorite shot shape thank you nailed it n too yeah I thought you thought Nico was on the the box there for a second when you said that but obviously n Clos likes to throw

That shot as well oh he just doesn’t get over on this one not under stable enough I don’t think maybe just didn’t quite commit to the right angle it’s one of the two Carter going for a Hiser flip turnover and very good nearly capturing some rightside chains as that was flying

In Nico needs to run one of these down been slow outside the Circ oh he had that little look in his ey and Carter he’s fighting his way back under par he’s now two down you see how that Strokes really fast makes it I feel like his other ones are a little slower

I have to pay more attention to his tapouts like you see how when Nicholas tops it in it’s a nice little smooth very even very slow but methodical pace it’s hard for a lot of players to take speed off when they’re coming to their shorter putts it’s you want to have that same

Pace that you have from 30 feet but then you’re afraid that you’re too close to the pole and that might be too hard yeah neaus has a really good Rhythm from those shorter putts and we’re now witnessing a spectacular round from Calvin I mean he’s been on it since really just a few

Slip UPS he had in the front nine yes since then he has been cooking as we fly over whole 17 par 4 this one is tough you got to get a lot of distance off the te because you are going to be dealing with the technical

Approach of some sort as you look at the gaps on the uh as you get through to the pin up here it’s just they’re they’re perfectly all separated by about 10 to 15 ft the closer you are to them the easier it is to hit the gap of course

But it’s low ceiling like a lot of these par fours out here Mason going so far off the te left that he has a pretty much wide open heer shot oh that’s good Mason is oh playing some phenomenal disc off I mean all season he has been right there in the

Mix at every event it seems like nether birdie that gets Mason to nine under and here’s Ezra AER hold also currently sitting at eight under par and he’s going high turnover through the Gap oh boogers is ridiculous that is so far whoa oh my goodness the confidence to just rip

Through that Gap like that and he’s going Zone OS approach that’s awful yeah that’s that’s an interesting I think we’re gonna see a jumper of sorts and he likes the jumper putts this is going to come in hot yeah hold on to that thing basket got a birdie to pick

Up oh another check in here with Ganon burr from my favorite shirts on tour yeah I like it too I had the pleasure of playing with gon today and he also started off pretty slow in the front nine and did a lot of uh this kind of stuff on the

Back oh Calvin you know what to do get this turned over keeps this one low is it going to avoid all the trees you just never know if low is good but then it’s always it’s always good for him yeah it he just has enough nose up angle that

He can throw low and have it just just carry forever oh no little high miss the branches and he’ll be okay nope caught a you’ll have something from there that’s okay a lot of Tight Windows over there mhm bye okay all the way out to left side

That’s great yeah that’s where Mason was I saw a roller on this one I thought it was it was a pretty good idea let’s see if Nico is thinking the same thing looks like he is and just got to miss the first couple once it starts picking up steam like

This yeah you don’t really care where it goes I mean that’s you’re just cutting off so much distance I like that play I do too and I was even just thinking like forehand roller could even work cuz it gets all the way out to the left side

Absolutely great hole let you pick and choose what you’d like it really keeps you honest on the second shot too like NEOS like that was a great shot but because there’s that one tree that you can kind of see over the Blue Sky in the background that Carter’s going to go

Right of that one tree really makes you make a decision on your approach shot sit down yeah you take that yeah yeah you will yeah birdie look on this I mean you give me 18 straight birdie looks I’m not going to make all of them but yeah but

You want to be closer with how good his Drive was I I feel yeah no I’m with you there na just putting the brakes on great touch nose angle control coming into the green I mean this is just a ridiculous Drive yes oh slow there slow down there cowboy

Oh Boy oh hitting the wrong medal maybe it was the right medal I mean that’s what a break oh my goodness Calvin heimberg doesn’t generally need luck but this time he receives it that would have been a cool make there for Nas almost did it again oh good butt all of a sudden

Making from Circle Edge that’s what you got to do young fella yeah three under is a decent Mark I mean we were kind of I don’t know we’re trying to figure out what the cash line for the tournament would be and I think 12 under so three four unders MH

Is going to probably get you into Cash depending on how much win there’re I think so yeah I think even three three three unders yeah maybe if it stays when for sure double digits though yep safe very safe in the double digits I think which is kind of incredible those are

Really great rounds out here mhm yeah it’s it’s tough to cash on tour these days and neaus taking his time tapping out very good putt there yeah like that even though it had flutter it didn’t really have nose up up or no down issues it was just nice and flat Carri through

The wind all of a sudden Calvin nine under just like that awesome toughest hole on the course second according to but it this is the toughest two to get without question 460 to the pin playing about 480 I’m guessing more headwind oh Head Strong headwind yeah this is one of the most

Exposed areas for the headwind on the course this I mean if these guys played in the same head when we played in it was ripping yeah watch Anthony Barilla that flag’s not moving why is that flag not moving AB I think was a card after me what is going on right now oh

Sit what a shot that looked way too easy that just got there in less than a second it seemed like yeah and that disc is so stable this one’s coming out if it hits the mid Hill it probably stand up and roll down a little bit Yeah but not too much

Yeah Ricky up first edge of the circle just outside actually uphill thank you very much six time and defending Texas state champion Ricky Yaki well Texas state champion when it was Elite Series yep an AB that’s going to get him to 10 under we’ll be seeing you tomorrow

Buddy good little stretch on the back nine there for him I was going to say his disc is so stable as Calvin steps up here I’ll say it after this drive wide is it swinging Jer why is it swinging is it swinging oh yeah yeah right there do you

Think anybody else could get A’s disc over that op line I think only a few people but certainly a few a few Carter this that’s lifting and going left it finds OB that will be not by much a drop yeah it it is close but

Yep this is going to need a lot of help Heering late n can be heard from the county over that one did not like that shot not the Finish he was looking for no out of bounds left and right we didn’t say that and short yeah it’s very

Hard to get in bounds actually with this headwind the good thing is there is a drop zone you’re pretty much guaranteed four oh and three players are going to have to prove you right going into this Drop Zone on 18 which is um kind of nice on this hole you’re guaranteed for I

Mean you could take big big numbers yeah I mean if you get a little too greasy I actually don’t mind a somewhat shorter Drop Zone here so that it entices the players to run it maybe you hit the medal maybe you roll back down the hill

Again yeah I think the Drop Zone from up top by by where the fans are standing be a little better yeah like give them a scary death putt from 4550 yep yep just no more of those 32 Footers like had exactly in Austin that was just too

Close oh my gosh one inch yeah it enticed ncla he gave it a good effort all right Calvin to tie for the lead oh just low tough putt to commit to it doesn’t look like it here but that is way up there it is so would that camera angle

We had on his face it was kind of like what Calvin sees in the basket that’s what we were looking at the basket if Cal okay I’m having a hard time here with this one you get it you know how he covers his face with the disc yeah okay

I got I got I got it’s like the fli got yeah I got you I don’t know how to word that but I think our audience who watches enough of our coverage to know what I’m talking about for sure what a round from Calvin uh slow start obviously but coming back shooting nine

Under which is just a fantastic score out here I mean look at all that green only three pars for the round but in the end it’s Anthony Bell with the hot course record 10 under Mason Ford and Ganon Burr the youth movement continues Paul we are going to have a young card

And two of the Champions that we’ve had so far in the first three events on our lead card going into moving round Saturday yeah you know what I like about this course I think that it provides scoring an every spot on the course so there’s going to be

People making moves from round for from hole one all the way to 18 you can string them along wherever you want to get them I think it it’s all tough so all the birdies on here feel like good birdies yeah that’s fair and I don’t think we’ve seen that it’s usually a

Race at some point in the round but at this course it’s balanced all the way B feel like all the way through we do have holes ranging from half a stroke below par to half stroke above par but nothing that’s just like it feels like you got
