Is there anything new on the uh medical front uh let’s see that’s a good question um you have rotational action meaning he’s rotating his torso and taking some dry swings for uh for lar Newar and then you had Sunny gray go through a bullpen session today slight alteration for his schedule not a

Nothing nothing like related to the injury except for more related to his schedule where he threw a bullpen session another of what we’re learning is a classic Sunny gry Bullpen session lots of action lots of conversation lots of narration um and that’s so that he can

Prepare to pitch in a game Friday a game you say a minor league game on the back fields um he’s going to throw to minor league hitters and um there’s going to be game action he can’t control um you know to the extent that uh that once the

Ball’s in play they’re going to play a real game now I don’t know if they’ll set up the lineup to his liking meaning left right left right left right or style a hitter um but they’re going to have game action um so he’ll have to get

Off the mound and field his position and all that stuff and that’ll be the next test for him and that’s Friday and we know that Edmond is certainly a a ways away u based on the reporting the post dispatch STL today so it leads me my next question um as as we

Get closer to uh you know final roster time are the Cardinals allowing uh are they are they sort of um giving you guys uh more of a look like into the window of maybe what they’re thinking about uh Victor Scott the second without without declaring anything but just kind of a window into

Their thinking what what have you been able to gleam from that if if there’s been a window I mean he’s playing a lot of Center Field playing center field again tonight um he’s going to get a long look and it’s you know they’re going to have to

Make a call somewhat based on what they know about Tommy Edmond’s near future long-term free you know availability when they start closing up camp um you know they Pro they’re going to make a call on their roster likely before they leave Florida does that mean they finalize it no

They’ll still have um a few days there in Arizona but they’re going to have some sense of what that roster looks like um by Sunday when they get on a plane to to Phoenix you know for Victor Scott you know there’s a lot of stuff in

Play here one is how much do they put an emphasis on defense and where do they think Dylan Carlson fits into their starting lineup um what do they think about left fields and Brenan Donovan you know their best defensive Outfield with Jordan Walker and Wright um which they’re committed to is probably Victor

Scott in center and Dylan Carlson in left um you know their best defensive outfielder their best defensive Outfield if they put Jordan in DH is a lot different but with him and Wright that is probably their best defensive Outfield how much of a difference is Dylan in Center Donovan in left or

Burleson in left but probably Donovan in left and what does that mean for the DH um you know is in play here because then they looking at you know not feeling that they’re going to overwhelm Victor Scott with you know the offensive expectations um or the the notion that

He and Mason wi will both be at the bottom of the lineup and what that means for the overall expectations of the offense uh you know they’re going to bake into this like okay how can he change games his speed his glove how will this change his development these

Are kind of the conversations that they’re having it’s really good stuff it’s it’s going to be interesting to see how it turns out uh what paying attention from afar you know it’s pretty obvious that Dylan Carlson’s been striking the ball with more Authority and based on oh

Goodness yes yeah based on based on stuff that you you all have written about very well to explain his determination to just in effect make sure he you know he swings hard enough I’m just trying to simplify it he gonna put everything into it and so so he’s

Hitting the ball harder there’s no doubt about it but as much as we uh don’t ma we don’t care about spring training stats I couldn’t help but note though e even though there’s been Improvement still not doing much against right-handed pitching um right what should we draw from that well over the

Past week more and better against right-handed pitching um but you’re right I mean there early on it was not much uh and then he uh he was not making the strides and not showing what they were reading else where he was not going into games um and then he went off to

Fort Meers and I don’t know I mean this is anecdotal but I remember watching that BP and he was in be in a BP group with burles and Gorman and Burleson and Gorman were just you know they’re just seeing like they were it was like a long drive competition the ballpark there in

Fort Meyers is set up where there’s a ring around it so fans can walk around the entire thing it’s like what they want to eventually have at Roger Dean Stadium but you can walk the entire Concourse in a circle around the twins complex and so they had seats out there

And if you hit the ball far enough it would go into these folding chairs and it would either send the folding chairs scattering clattering or it would send the people chasing after the ball through the folding chairs clattering and smattering all over the place um it was somewhat comical to be honest and

You just heard a ruckus every time a ball went in there you could also hit it Beyond The Walk I give you that visual because that’s where Gorman was hitting the ball that’s where buros was hitting the ball and oh then up comes Dylan Carlson and he goes

I mean I like I’m just I don’t know what he said but he was like he kind of was like okay fine cool and then started doing the same thing and started swinging with such ferocity that like I don’t I don’t know if you you would say

Like oh I’ve seen that before like I’m not sure you would but he was swinging with feroc and distance and you know the phrase that marul or the word he uses is intent this was intent to to hit the ball as far as those other two guys were and he

Was doing it and then he did it in the game hit it to dead center field then he’s continued to do it since then so again you know it’s anecdotal but it was an example of kind of what they are trying to get from him and I asked ol

About it that day and he brought it up again today he was like yeah you know it’s like what you were talking about in that BP he just is out there with like all right this is my a swing and I don’t need to just make contact I don’t just

Need to protect the strike zone um I need to damage and he’s doing it better better he’s doing it better yeah it’s good I mean I I’m happy for him because he’s he’s just been stuck in this um rut for lack of a better term plus injuries

Had yeah I mean he hasn’t had health he was so limited you know you plant that foot no range of motion you don’t feel like you have any power your body hurts your wrist hurts I mean who’s going to swing with ferocity in that you know I

Mean people don’t go out and have their their best drive at Top Golf when they have a head cold you know I mean just imagine that and and so maybe yeah May Brian BTO says hello as he walks by oh that’s our guy man tell him I said hello yeah he says

Hello um but you know I mean he just was swinging with health and then after health comes okay well what’s my limit and now he’s finding it we’ll see if it works I don’t want to like overstate it but it’s going to be public if it I mean

What happens is public right absolutely you uh Derek and I I know that your time’s a little short so I just get a couple of a couple other questions in um the bullpen competition in effect there’s another job open because uh Keenan Middleton’s you know going to be

Down for a while how much it doesn’t matter he’s going to be down he’s not going to be able to pitch real early on in the season so what does that do in terms of the job competition and the the thing that’s par of particular interest is Ryan Fernandez because he’s the rule

Five draft pick from the Boston if he doesn’t make the 26-man roster they have to offer him back to the Red Sox or make a deal to keep him and um real quick real quick just quick they have to offer him back to every other team oh every

Other team sorry I’m glad no I’m I’m really I’m really glad you uh pointed that out I believe it or not I didn’t realize that I’m usually pretty good about that stuff no that’s all right he has to go through every other team who

Can say well we want him at the rule F rules or then back to the Red Sox gotcha does this give him an advantage uh over say say Riley over Brian who who’s been really impressive oh both of them both of them are going I mean it’s hard to

Imagine a bullpen without both of them in it okay to be honest yeah um gotta you know midd Middleton opens up a spot for Ryan Fernandez he he threw last night um you know the uh Nick Robertson is kind of the one that has to Elbow his

Way past them has not yet um still could still could but gosh it just it really looks like Middleton’s absence means that Fernandez has a clear path um and O’Brien they’re talking about as if he’s on the team the tone of that has changed really quick yeah I mean like first I I

Don’t even think games had started and they were starting to talk about him as if he was on the team do they consider one more thing about this left-handed relief they you know obviously JoJo Romero um but where does it go from there um Palante that’s right he because he can

Get left left-handed hitters out okay um and then it’s and then it’s Liberator and Thompson both of whom could also be on the team gotcha um yeah listen man Okay I uh get on with your your day man you’re busy we appreciate every good you’re good by the way all your

Questions no no excellent all the special uh special section stuff yeah uh for the Post batch STL today if people haven’t done it um don’t let the reading pile up because every day they’re releasing more and more of what’s going into the big special section so you can

Kind of read it uh you know you don’t have to read everything all at once because it’s coming to you in in you know different uh chapters so to speak so it’s good stuff it’s been really good good good writing good reading so thank you yeah in the uh in the upcoming days

I don’t think my stories have reached the web yet so the my story on Sunny gray and then the cover story on this really you know basically the Cardinals are like hey you know we’ve fallen behind in the the pitching Trends um we fallen behind in the modern pitching

Approach so our way to attack that is we’re going to go total retro you know they they had a you know they had Adam way W retire from the rotation and the average age of the rotation went up two years that’s pretty funny that’s good that’s good stuff so they’re going back

In time to try to get better now and we’ll see if that works um and then uh the reason why I have to rush today is because I got a player who texted me that he has more thoughts about the topic that I brought up to him for

Tomorrow well go my man go I appreciate your time and we’ll talk again next week see you you want to know who the player is you want no you can’t sure sure yes uh Matt Carpenter so I’m gonna tell him and said tell him and said hello tell

Him and said hello I will all right definely do that’s our guy Derrik gold he’s a busy man today and uh you know all the beat writers including you know Lyn Hardy down there and I know Ben frederickson’s working hard they’re all cranking out stuff all over the place

Daniel Guerrero post spatch STL today is just exceptional coverage uh that hits on everything so uh always app appreciate that not just because I work there a long time or the they’re my friends but it’s just good it’s comprehensive stuff

  1. Sorry……I spit out my coffee when he said "Our best defensive outfield is with Walker in right."…….Am I missing something? 🤣

  2. Carlson is absolutely hitting better lately, I've been tracking him throughout the spring. And while I wish him all the success in the world because the team could absolutely use him, his track record doesn't inspire long-term confidence.

  3. All this silly dancing and hype with Gray. Just pitch. Go Cardinals. Nice to see Dylan showing a spark. Hoping it is who he is. Finally. Still waiting for Masyn to emerge as a MLB hitter. So happy for Stanton with his 3 HRs and 8 RBIs. Looking for some Cardinals to get in that kind of groove. Yep. I’m more than ready for the season to begin.

  4. As a long time cards fan, It seems to me that the team have been very average the last few yrs. VS the early 2000s. in 2024 the pitching again is very average. The offense over the last few years has also been very average with long stretches of the team not hitting. Is that going to improve this year? Arenado and Goldschmidt must lead the team this yr and stay out of long slumps.
Better development on minor leaguers is needed and how long do you wait for a 23/24 yr old rookie who appears ready before you call him up?

  5. Let Victor Scott play, he makes the corners better by cutting down the gaps. The fans can have something to be excited about now Gray isn't starting. Keep the gold glove infielders on the infield!!! Let the outfielders mix it up with who are going to hit the best against that days starter. Give Scott center until at least Edman returns, then make the call. Vince Coleman was only supposed to be up for a cup of coffee and never went down. Against all odds… Go Cardinals ❤

  6. Goldie leading the league in strikeouts… don’t see an extension coming with that kind of performance .135 and I believe 20 or almost 20 strikeouts

  7. Imo Walker needs to have his ass DH…
Donnie in Left.. VSII in CF.. Carlson in RF…
    Corners locked up..
Gorman at second Winn at SS
    Contreras catching
    Herrera righty off bench..
    Burleson lefty off bench..
    Crawford and Carpenter Moral support!

  8. Yamamoto 45 era hahaha 330 million dollars so far down the tube dodgers should be 0-2 if not for that shitty Wilson glove exploding and imo Ohtani seems to have a potential gambling problem no way his translator steals 200k when they pay him that just to say some words
