Good ones yeah sure you know look we won big at UCLA and we had some one and guys but we won big because our veterans you know our our veterans got us to a final four two straight swis sweet 16s you know our best players were

James oh yeah Brony James play he played against him what would be your advice to him would you as a young player him being a Freshman would you advise him to come out or would you advise him to stay and kind of develop and play a couple

I was that player when I went to Pittsburgh right and and I was a badass I had Dave ju say my head coach coach and I got busy every game right and I was on here for two years right a year and a half or something like that I left

Out of my sophomore year and everybody had all my stuff on Shady this Shady that you know my number on it I have no money oodles and noodles right and I had Jo college but if I had that other stuff I would have struggled as much or I

Might have made different decisions you know what I really want to stay one more year man we have a really good team coming in damn we might get a super a championship I’m stay you wouldn’t have stay but no no what I’m saying is like now you getting money a certain way you

Think different so I want to ask you from from recruiting because um Deion Sanders is a really good close friend of mine right yeah and he’s real vocal about it like he go to see kids and talk to him first thing they say is yo what’s

The money like coach so I want to ask you from that perspective as a coach like has the nil like change the game for recruiting for you is oh yeah in a good or bad way well I I think I don’t look at it like that because what

Happens is if you say the TRU there sir there’s good and bad okay okay so you know I I I play golf at El cavier in the valley with where Chris Paul plays and Chris comes up you know Chris like this is not good this is Chris talk okay and

I said well why do you say that and he’s like well they’re not going to save any of the money somebody won’t even save the money to pay their taxes and they’re not going to be hungry and it’s going to affect their development his whole thing

Was it if you know it takes away hunger it affects development do you agree with that well I I I agree with Shady on the like Lonzo Ball’s Jersey shouldn’t be selling out in the UCLA bookstore and he doesn’t get the money like that’s ridiculous point to your point people’s

Our young people ready to deal with having some money like that right and and and I want and I want to stay on that because i’ I’ve talked to a lot of coaches in the college football world that I played for and they said basically these kids are soft nil really

Has made these kids soft because like yeah but like if coaches yelling at me now you know what man I’m transfer I’m go here so is it harder from that standpoint too really like coaching these kids and being able to push these kids because to be honest with you this

Generation is really getting getting soft and you know what I mean and sensitive if you’re if you’re coaching them hard yeah look I I think I’m not making a tough spot easy I don’t care so it’s all good you know I’m going to coach the way I coach

Like I’m not changing so I don’t think that kids have Chang I don’t think this generation’s any different than when we were young and played I think the adults are different and I think that’s the problem okay I think the problem is that say that one more time hold on I think

Who different the adults right right right yeah that’s the difference that is the difference one more time one more time the adults are very different so you know my when I’m at my friend’s house and I say something I shouldn’t have said at that age you know

My you know and you know Big Mike Mattis NBA I know and he slaps the hell out him guy and my dad’s all he and he’s he’s like Big Mike should have slapped you you know and that’s just that we were raised in a different world like you

You know that that has changed kids don’t they follow follow our league right you know they look up to us and when it comes to coaching guys I just tell them the truth look you you’re not making you know Hae hakz has made it he’s going to be all rookie in the NBA

Not because of what I hey I’m I’m recruiting I developed him no no no haime hakz is a warrior right he is a soldier that can show up every day and and I tell him that to play in the NBA you better be able to show up every day

They play 82 yes and playoffs and you know can you show up every day without the assistant coach saying come on noway attention Hustle N you can’t do all that you’re out going to draw you back to basketball uh directly uh NCAA tournament there’s talk about expanding

It yeah how do how do you feel about that idea uh I I’m I first of all it will happen Okay be be because at the end of the day money talks and everything else walks that’s just my feeling yeah um I you know I think that

There and and coaches I’m not for it but Co there’s coaches would say well there’s a too low of a percentage of our teams don’t make the NCA tournament okay but look look there’s too many division one teams 360 come on that’s a lot yeah you know you’re really like you can’t

Compare you know some of those teams to UCLA or Kentucky or whatever whatever you know so let’s just be honest like you know so there’s really how many re division one teams that when they say in the next 5 years you can pay your players M you’ll find out who’s really division

Cuz that’s coming where we’re going to be able to play our own players and it will come from the school there’s another another change that’s already happened which is we we introduced you as the two-time Pack 12 Coach of the Year ain’t we ain’t G to find three

Because there is no Pack 12 I need to say I find I need to find those Awards those are collector’s it but you’re moving to the Big 10 how how is that going to impact UCLA in the program well from the school standpoint um you know it’s already a worldwide

Brand University you know Wise and UCLA Medical and all that but uh for The Branding opportunities of all our athletes you’re now you’re in Coast to Coast I mean how many leagues are DC to New York to to La Chicago I mean we’re literally the only League spanning coast

To coast in major cities so that’s opportunity now I’m going to have to have a real comfortable travel pillow you know obviously you know and the logistics of the Big 10 has to work out look basketball and football are easy for the Big 10 to work out to travel

Yeah it’s the Olympic sports you know that they going to have to work all that out I we look we’re flying on private planes and eating steak so does does recruiting does it help you with recruiting Because you have that that bigger footprint the era of what league

You play in affecting recruiting it’s 10 years ago really yeah that that there was a time I want to play in the Big East I want to play you know I think once the Big East started breaking up the East Coast you know was always kind of a thing

You know more Tradition now cuz Big East was the thing thing now now it’s just now you have Danel and it’s just it’s just kind of all Blended together I believe yeah um you know it just doesn’t ever come up in in the recruiting now it’s going to be I I got
