Wolves boss Gary O’Neil says Coventry boss Mark Robins’ goal celebration in front of a ball boy during their FA Cup quarter-final was “disgusting”

Coventry scored twice in stoppage time to win 3-2 at Wolves in an incredible last-eight tie at Molineux.

The Championship side took the lead early in the second half through Ellis Simms but appeared set for heartbreak when late goals from Rayan Ait-Nouri and substitute Hugo Bueno turned the tie the Premier League side’s way in front of a jubilant home crowd.

But there was a dramatic twist when Simms equalised in the 97th minute, seemingly taking the game into extra-time, only for Haji Wright to go one better – winning it for Mark Robins’ men with a fine finish in the 100th minute.

Little bit of controversy around this one though the commentary boss Mark Robbins had to apologize for his celebrations that followed that win late late late at molu last night he celebrated in front of a ball boy who admitted uh he admitted had annoyed him throughout the game turned around went

That in his face to a little kid and the wolf’s head coach Gary O’Neal says that Robin’s actions were disgusting I was disappointed I’ve spoken I waited for Mark downstairs after I’d seen it and spoke to him um because I was really respectful at the end you know having lost a massive game

Waited for them to finish their celebration shook everyone’s hand congratulated them on a real good performance and reaching Wembley and what a fantastic achievement it was um and he apologized but I just yeah to celebrate in a young boy’s face like that I thought was disgusting um the

Boys really upset um so yeah not it shouldn’t happen of course it shouldn’t happen but um not too much to sound on it cuz it you know I’ve lost and it’s going to sound bitter but I thought it was really important for me to speak to Mark about it um because they you

They’re just kids doing a job he managed to get the ball in a a really good position drops to and I’m stood right behind it and as soon as it left his boot you knew it was in the goal and I have an apology to make because before that happened ball Bo has

The ball young kid young kid so I’m a apologizing to him he’s got the ball in his hand he drops the ball walks away smiling it really annoyed me but he’s a kid you know at the end of the day I’ve reacted we’ve scored the goal and I’ve

Gone and celebrated in front of him I apologize to him I do not show emotion very often but I did today and that’s what the FA Cup does to you but I apologize unreservedly to him

  1. I don't care if your 13 or 30, the ball boy had a job to do and didn't do it professionally. Tough St. Gary, your an idiot for making this a big issue. Do One.

  2. Gary O’Neil takes an opportunity to discuss his feelings about the incident with Robins privately, I didn’t realised that, that showed some class, to which Robins apologised, so that’s all all good, then O’Neil went public, that’s just poor, mountain out of a molehill! I like Gary O’Neil, doing a great job, but he should learn some manners and on Monday have a word with his team and staff about time wasting, it’s not good sporting behaviour and it may have cost you the game.

  3. Robin's showed what an idiot he is. He wouldn't be happy if a fan did the same to one of his kids, and I bet he'd go to the Police.
Anyway, they'll get smashed next round.

  4. For goodness sake ..how old was he..5?? He was in tears because they lost, pure and simple! And as for O’Neill – biggest bunch of sour grapes ever! Why feel the need to bring it up here? Your fans are more magnanimous than you. Maybe take a leaf out of their book and grow up! PUSB!

  5. If the ball boy had shown respect and just been a ball boy this would not have happened. Even kids need to learn that actions have consequences.

  6. it was disgusting that the ball boy tried to stop the game of football. Inhope thr ball boy never gets to a game again. He doesn't deserve it just like the cov player didn't deserve whathe recieved from thr ball boy. Pathetic excuse from a manager.

  7. The kid learned a good lesson.. if he gave the ball to Bidwell instead of dropping it; Coventry wouldn’t of scored the winner

  8. O'Niel is trying the deflection story, the result is the real story, then the tactics of keeper feigning injury to coach your outfield players is another. The real laugh is Sa falling on the ground to kill time, pathetic especially from a good keeper, backfired some what eh?

  9. Stop apologising for everything . This world is soft as baby poo. The kid was a wind up merchant and just got a bit of his own medicine. End of. Stop crying

  10. Tbf it looked like Coventry City were the Premier League side, Wolves looked like the club in the division below. That isn't throwing shade on Wolves, just highlighting the fact Coventry City were absolutely brilliant, they dominated a really good Premier League side. Can't see Coventry City FC being in the Championship for much longer.

  11. in hindsight mark robins should of shook the lads hand and thanked him, because if he hadn't thrown the ball away the reff wouldn't of given the extra 30 seconds, the dynamics of the game would of been completely different, players would of been in totally different positions on the pitch.and cov probably wouldn't of scored. and the game would of gon to extra time,, Gary o neill ,what a smarmy snivelling bitter gobshite he is!

  12. It will teach the kid to act with manners in the future. If you can't take it then don't give it. Mark is lovely guy and O'Neill a miserable sod who used it to deflect from his team being spanked.

  13. Gary O’Neil takes a long time discussing something he said he didn’t want to talk about doesn’t he
Classic Deflection..at least it kept the discussion away from him asking his keeper to cheat and pretend to be injured so he could show his team some videos on his iPad😮😮😮

  14. Maybe if you didn't make an excuse for the ball boys behaviour poor poor sportsmanship but the ball boy wasn't alone was he the c@£k of a goalkeeper did to as well as the kick to the face of a cov player

  15. Didn’t need to apologise. If the kid is old enough to give it out he’s got to take it when it comes back. Snowflake culture! Well done Mark Robins.

  16. As far as I know the 'ballboy' is a 13 year old teenager who thought he'd be a hero and give it the bigun
"See what I did, I didn't give them the ball and that precious time means we are in the semi final, aren't I great"
Instead he learnt a valuable lesson that sometimes life can make you look like an utter fool and instead his actions caused the immediate sequence of events that got his precious club knocked out.
He should be upset but because of the shame he has brought on himself, his parents and his club. He should never 'ballboy' again.

  17. O'Neil trying to take a moral high ground seems somewhat disingenuous given his track record. Robins did what he did in a highly emotional moment after that boy had deliberately tried to affect the outcome of the game. O'Neil's previous actions have been calculated and premeditated. He can bore off.

  18. What a load of rubbish no need to apologise Mark the little kid was on the wind up throughout the game. It teaches the lad a lesson.
Gary o neil should of not commented on it after robbins had already apologised that's just just sour grapes 🤦🏼‍♂

  19. Nothing to apologise for on my opinion.

Kid or not if you’re big enough to give it, you’re big enough to get it!.

The kid simply followed O’Neil when he celebrated the wolves goal!. Saying it’s disgusting for having a bout of passion against an adversary is bonkers.

The ball boy was trying to time waste by dropping the ball on the floor and he MUST have known it would wind Mark up so when Mark then celebrates you cannot then cry wolf.

Finally, for that ball boy to drop the ball because wolves were winning, he must have been briefed something like “if we’re winning, walk slowly, waste as much time as you can”, so I don’t buy into all the fuss.
