The worst piece of advice categorically any golfer or in fact any golf coach could tell you is to keep your head still now this is simply because it locks in your whole body and if it locks in your whole body how can you release the club how can you get power you’ve

Got to change it you’re going to promise me one thing right now watching this video you’re going to lose the idea of keeping your head still because I want to help you increase your distance improve your strike and generally just start enjoying your golf more and all

Going to take is three simple stages now I don’t say this often but this is one thing that you could actually start working on right now and I actually I would really recommend you if you can actually do this with me even if you actually think you know what yeah I

Think I’m all right I feel pretty loose now the reason why this is important and I get why you want to keep your head still because you feel like if your head moves your strike will go but trust me your head’s going to stay Stiller than

It ever was before but you’re going to move so much better now the first part of this process we’re going to get that club across the chest don’t worry it’s not what you’ve seen before it’s very very different now if you think of it

This way if I say I was tense trying to keep my head still look how sort of I get to a point here on the way through if I sort of showed you that again I’d turn back I probably would be okay on the way through me keeping my head still

I actually can’t go much further than that now what I want you to have is the idea here and this is what I mean do this at home do this in front of a mirror turn to the back swing little check get the club pointing towards the

Ground but I want you to look at the mirror in front of you here so I’m looking at you guys now but I’m imagining I’m looking in a mirror it’s all about the relationship of your left shoulder to your left ear we don’t want

To keep that the same the idea I want is to keep your head still and look how still my head stays I’m moving my left shoulder away from my left ear for a right-handed golf can you see how still my head stayed and look how much more freedom and rotation

I had you often find this and I see it has a very opposite effect you try and keep your head still you lose speed but it actually moves more it actually hampers where your low point is so really get that idea for stage number one of three get that turn and left

Shoulder watch my head now left shoulder moves away from your a I’m already turned through without even realizing it because you’re not locking off sort of your neck muscles you’re up a top of your back you really feel so much Freer I think I need a bit more of that myself

So watch this left away and through I can’t tell you enough how just doing that is simply going to give you a bit more speed a bit more power look you can see how much it was hampering my rotation before and actually realistically not keeping my head still whereas now I’m keeping it

Still but that’s not my objective left shoulder away from left ear with every single one of these videos they’re powered by you all you Gophers have asked about Alex how do I rotate more freely through this ball should I be keeping my head still that’s exactly why in today’s video I’m answering this

And I’m trying to rotate towards Target look how like sort of I move as a unit I’m trying to keep it still that distance there between my left shoulder and my ear isn’t getting bigger now relative to the GOL ball look at this hoop it’s worth it for you guys being on

My knees here watch this I turn back my left ear moves away can you see how my hoop stays on a much better plane but also look how much more freedom I’ve got through the shot so again if I try and keep it dead still I tense my up a half

And my my relationship between my shoulder and my ear doesn’t improve or get bigger my hoop moves totally different right let’s move now on to the final two stages and I can get off my knees so you know when you see all the top players work a move

Slowly that’s exactly what we’re going to do together now this is on if you come for a lesson with me this is exactly what I would do I’d get you to make some slow reps without hitting a ball cuz I want you to improve we don’t want you just have immediate success

Immediate success is great but I want longl lasting success so watch me here I’m going to roll it to top of the back swing when I say roll it just be free be loose take the tension out the arms and I want you to focus now left shoulder

Away from left ear now look how still my head stays and look how much more freedom I get so just really get the idea what I would give you as a feedback not for me but when I’ve done this with let’s say mid handicap being 13 15 and

Then single figures and then even sort of new golfers right they feel as though their chest is just almost unscrewed without any restriction so less restricted now watch again you see how still my head stays throughout that down swing I mean it’s going to move after impact left shoulder

Away from left ear has to really be that idea of how we move and actually how we facilitate the head St still for a period of time before we finish off so my little trigger for you there for your swing but actually to start of of maybe

A swing thought here and I’ll let you know what that is in the final bit is simply my trigger when my upper half moves this this and all the way through that is stage number two of three now one thing you’ll notice when I hit shots into this

Net you don’t even hear it and the best thing the ball just comes right back to where I started hitting from let’s get back to the video if you’re new you won’t know this but if you watch all the time you’ll have heard me say hit slow

Shots and I promise you when you do this you will not go back so if I want you to say right now we’ve got five gears in our car gear one being the slowest gear five being the fastest now hit them in gear three gear three means a speed Li

Bit I mean you might have a fancy car that goes much faster but gear three you get what I mean right so I’m going to show you what ball speed I get now with the driver if I gave you before we even hit one anything around sort of 158 160

I’ be over the moon with I think I can get close to that even at gear three just because of the efficiency of how I’m going to uncoil into the ball with this exact move so my swing thought for the down swing and I want you to

  2. My big problem is sinking down into the ball creating fat shots. Having a terrible time stopping it. Not sure how I picked it up, but getting rid of it is maddening.
