Is your golf stance too wide or too narrow?

Is your golf stance too wide or too narrow? Although personal preference comes into finding the right stance width, there are some rules of thumb that apply. For example, if your stance is too wide, what effect does it have on your golf swing? And if it is too narrow, what are the consequences? I share my thoughts about getting the stance width correct in this video.

Hello I’m Sue shapcott and today I’m in Madison Wisconsin and in this video I’m going to talk about the correct stance width and regardless of whether you’re hitting your irons or your Woods then the same principles are going to apply here okay so I’m going to start out by

Saying there’s definitely room for preference in terms of how wide your St should be in the golf swing now with that carat said then I think there are a couple of consider ations that you need to have in order to get the correct stance width for you and so for me a

Good stance width is probably just a little bit wider than my shoulders if I get my feet too wide if I increase my stance width so much then what that means is that I’m going to really have a hard time using my legs efficiently in my golf swing now

Depending on what your swing characteristics are that may be a a good thing I don’t know but for someone like me then if my stance width is is too wide then I just don’t feel I can use my legs enough in my golf swing now if I go

To the Other Extreme and if I have my feet really close together then I just don’t feel like I have an awful lot of stability in my gol swing and you know equally with this wi width of Swing then I don’t feel that I’m maximizing the

Power that I can get so whether it’s because my feet are too wide and I feel that that completely immobilizes my lower body or my feet are too narrow where I don’t feel particularly stable then I feel that I can optimize my um the the speed of my swing instead

I want a stance width that gives me stability but also allows me to use my legs as much as I can to maximize the the speed that I’m getting in my swing so like I said at the beginning there’s definitely some room for preference here but it’s worthwhile considering what

Happens on the extreme so making sure that you don’t get your feet too wide or equally too narrow so you want to maximize the distance and your stability by getting a good stance withth in your swing I hope that’s helpful please check out some of our other videos and don’t
