Kind of private workouts and met with all these quarterbacks ahead of that 2014 draft it’s just good process and I don’t think uh the private workout with McCarthy means anything special I don’t think it would mean anything special if it was Drake May Caleb Williams Jaden Daniels B knck Michael penx Jr you’re

Just doing your due diligence you are putting them in situations where not necessarily they can fail but if they fail why and then you can kind of backtrack and figure out okay this that and the other thing it’s just good process you want to be able to get as

Much information out of these prospects as you possibly can by putting them in situations where you can learn information so I think it’s just good process I don’t think it means that they love him anymore or any less I think it’s they’re just trying to do information

Gathering yeah I mean fno they did that last year too and I I don’t think that I don’t think they put will Levis through the private workout I know they had meetings with Will Levis I don’t think they did you know this whole private workout thing but this seems just like

Pretty normal due diligence now I’m curious of with macau’s connection with Drake with Drake May from the high school years do they try are they just good with you know two or three of these different guys miles kind of threw that out yesterday when we were on purple

Daily on draft but I wonder which one really is their number one target or are they just cool with potentially getting obviously Drake Made JJ McCarthy or even Jayden Daniels if that ends up happening I think you’re going to find out how many they’re good with by when that

Draft trade occurs if it occurs at all because is if they believe in all four of those top guys they’re going to try to make the move early so they can just guarantee themselves that lottery ticket where I’m getting that guy it may be Dan it may be may maybe McCarthy but no

Matter what I’m getting one of those guys Caleb Williams he’s going at one that that’s essentially a foregone conclusion at this point if of those next three if you love all three of them and believe that they can be your franchise quarterback you make the move

Now and you don’t think twice if you are are a little less convinced about one of those three or two of those three and you want to kind of wait it out then you just go ahead and wait and then you attack when the time is right when your

Guy is there there also is a chance that they traded up to get 23rd overall this year because they like a Michael penx Jr and if it does not work out at the top of the draft you get a really good guy at 11 or with the trade back then you

Acquire more draft capital and then you take penck at 23 so there are a lot of different ways to kind of look at this we’re not really going to know until it happens kind of how the Vikings theoretically think of these quarterbacks and how they approach the trade market and once that

Happens I think we’re going to get a better sense of what’s going on so I’m going to give you uh uh four scenarios here and I I want I want you to do a a pie chart of odds so because you you brought up something that I think we’ve

All dismissed as being a possibility and we probably shouldn’t yet um let’s take the let’s take the second pick out so let’s say that Washington’s going to keep that pick and draft a QB so the four slices of piie Forno that I’m going to give give you are the Vikings trade

Up to three for the Patriots pick the Vikings trade up to four for the Cardinals pick or the Vikings trade up to five for the Chargers pick and then the last piece of pie is that they just stand Pat at 11 and 23 take the best player available at 11 and then because

Because it probably wouldn’t be some huge reach uh for a quarterback they do take a guy like pennx at 23 slice that up as we talk right now and this is what’s going to make this so much fun and so intriguing until it’s done slice

Those four pieces of pie up for me into what your odds are absolutely so let’s start with pick three I think it’s about a 25% chance my lean on this is the Vikings really want to get to three and I do think that the target is Drake may

I think that J J McCarthy is somebody that they’ll also be very high on I don’t know what they’ll think of Jaden Daniels especially because he didn’t really have like a passing break out until his really his age 23 Season 22 was okay but TW like not breaking out

Until that age 23 season can raise a little bit of a red flag and if you watched it the Arizona State film you understand why it took a little bit to break out because Arizona state was kind of a dumpster fire even though they had some really good weapons Johnny Wilson

Ricky peol Rashad white all three of them are going to be playing on Sundays next year were were at his disposal and they couldn’t really do anything so I I’d say 25% to the Patriots I don’t really know what they’re going to do you could make an argument that if they

Don’t love a guy they need to just trade out and just get a bunch of capital so they can continue to build out the infrastructure because one of the toughest Parts about drafting in the top is you don’t have an infrastructure for a young QB to succeed correct and then

Often times they can fail and that’s why I’m so bullish on the Vikings just giving whatever they can to get one of those guys because they have the infrastructure for that quarterback to thrive and if he doesn’t he just stinks and I think it’s a risk worth taking but

If the Patriots love a guy they just need to take him and I think that element is going to be really fascinating to watch Cardinals I would also put at i’ put a little bit less I I think I would go like 15% I really do think based on everything I’ve heard

They want Marvin Harrison Jr and they’re not going to think twice about it and the four also just feels kind of like a weird spot because we know the Chargers really really want to trade uh I don’t I don’t necessarily know if that’s 100% factual but let’s just look at what

Their infrastructure is how bad their cap situation is because they have all these aging vets they just moved on from Keenan Allen and Mike Williams uh they had Khalil Mack restructure Joey Bosa restructure and then you have Justin Herbert and you have to figure out how to maximize that I think they’re going

To want to trade back and get like an offensive linan and a receiver to really help fortify that offense um I think that’s a 50% chance that they go up to five and I think it’s a 10% chance that they don’t move at all because the one

Thing that we talked about on purple daily on draft yesterday mhm you have to have a partner somebody has to say yes just because you want to go to the school dance with the cheerleader doesn’t mean she wants to go with you and until you get a yes it doesn’t

Matter last year they tried to get Anthony Richardson the Cardinals didn’t want to go to 23 you have to have a partner and if you don’t have a partner it nothing matters so having that extra cap cap at least gives you two first round picks this

Year to work with and I don’t think it was that high of a price to pay right you consider All Things Considered and you have to prepare for every possible outcome even though the outcome of not getting one of the top quarterbacks is not something fans want

To hear trust me none of us want it to happen either but it’s a realistic outcome that you have to be prepared for and I guarantee you those conversations have happened in the organization mhm so Forno with Josh maau coming in like is it’s just the perfect storm of even

Before you know they hired maau that they were looking at May and then they realized hey Ma has a history with Drake with Drake May and this kind of just feels like a perfect little partnership like I I feel like that’s not a coincidence right that all of a sudden

They hir Josh maau and now everything’s coming out they really like Drake may I feel like that was honestly part of their kind of plans to maybe smooth things over make make a better natural fit there if they’re if they’re indeed able to get go go ahead and get Drake

May I think it’s more a coincidence than it is not a coincidence um or maybe I said that wrong I I don’t think the Drake May connection mattered a ton in the hiring and if you remember Kevin OC connell’s first years as a coach like a true position coach in the league Josh

Macau was in his quarterback room and they’ve had a relationship for a long time I I think that was why and plus maau is viewed as this potential head coach the Texans tried to hire him back in 2021 and instead they got David cly and then Levy Smith took over maybe that

Was 2020 I’m getting my years mixed up but they wanted to hire him and the league basically took a big dump on it and said no you’re not doing that that’s not how things work and they ended up nobody really wanted that job they gave

It to David KY and then lucky for cly he signed a multi-year deal and he got a lot of money to basically go retire and enjoy life cuz he got a raw deal there too but maau is viewed as a potential head coach and one thing we’ve known

About mconnell he likes to bring in people he’s worked with before they just brought in Jonah Williams from the Rams he was on the staff when they signed him as a udfa in 2021 Brandon Powell Johnny Mt Matt Daniels uh Wes Phillips like the

List goes on and on and on he likes to bring in people he knows so to me it’s less about Drake may just more about this guy’s a really good coach and we’re going to utilize him with Kevin oconnell you just hit on something that I think

It’s been it’s been talked about but I think it’s been underplay played so far because I think it’s I think it signifies some type of change here that I think is really intriguing and that is the hiring of maowen here so like this guy to to your point he he was seen by

Some as a head coach type which which the League’s not wrong that would have been very quick it violates the Rooney Rule up and down like there’s a lot of things of but that being said for oconnell to bring him in on the heels of of West Phil PHS having some off the-

Field troubles last year macau’s a former quarterback who really did have more SE more success than Kevin did um but I’m sure that they’re both very very smart I think you hit on something that’s really really intriguing to to watch and that is go is going to be the

Ideas you know if they draft a QB which I’m assuming that they’re going to but beyond that with darnold probably starting day one I think that the maau thing is going to be so interesting to watch as far as what ideas he brings as well here Tyler

Because I think that we all thought okay new QB’s coach that’s cool the more I examine it I almost feel like like the Kirk uh the working infrastructure with Kirk was this it was going to be oconnell and Kirk which is fine and that they worked hand in hand and that the

Quarterback coach was sort of a caddy right like quarterback coach helped but he wasn’t instrumental I think that’s changed a lot I think macau’s going to be instrumental so I have a lot of questions and they’re mostly positive though about how this is going to work but I don’t think that we should

Underplay this was a major addition to to one help ok conell but two in the development of whomever they eventually draft I think it’s really intriguing it really is and I think you’re going to start to see a lot more former players becoming coaches and that model and I

Think you can really trace it back to Dan Campbell’s initial staff in Detroit half of his staff more than half of it was former players and it still is he just keeps adding former player coaches and players understand the grind and people looked at Dan Campbell and oh

He’s doing up downs with his players people like oh that’s a meme that’s a show no that’s just Dan Campbell like he’s a former player he gets it it’s his way of hey I can get a workout in without having to really go to the gym

And use up extra time and like it’s a good way to bond with your players you understand the grind that they go through every day because you went through it and that I think is going to be more of a relatable element for this new generation coming in where if you

Have somebody who can relate directly to you and not have somebody like like us none of us played high level football like if if they listen to me they’ll like well you don’t understand what we’re going through well guess what Josh M did and he did it for almost 20 years

So that’s going to resonate likely more with these guys and that’s going to create a bond and it’s going to create a level of trust and then you also he’s also seen almost everything so he can help you through different situations and help you understand how to attack

You’re a top five pick the expectation is you’re going to step in and you might be Bryce young and you might be CJ stoud and there’s really no you know if you’re not a success like Bryce young was sort of seen as a bust in his first year it’s
