Fields was of often discussed possibility and then I you know got the phone notification and saw the news that he got traded and I like was able to make a a large announcement oh you I W bomb the like the glass that would have been basically did basically did I basically

Did like no way he went for as little as M Jones that loser like yeah he went for a sixth and with potential to be a fourth and apparently the rumors are that the Steelers don’t intend to play him at all this year I don’t know how

They could know that already I guess your plan is Russ right like they they planned on Russ I my first reaction was I kind of get it we sat here the entire offseason talking about how like yeah maybe we would try out fields for the sake of like there might not be 32

Reasonable quarterback Solutions and he’s got some rushing upside and whatnot but we’re three years in and and he hasn’t panned out right MH we we expected like maybe a team to give up the darnold package like a second and a little bit more or maybe like a third

And a little bit more but we wouldn’t have supported that moovie we would have been like that’s not right outside of maybe the idea of well you got to do something yeah I guess he’s got like that that’s what it would have been but it seems like teams just nobody was

Actually bought into that nobody was going to do that and the second that you’re not like well we’re going to roll into Fields as the starter next year he’s a one-year rental because you’re not picking up that fifth year option and a one-year rental of of field

Is worth a day two pick I think no way right I think no shot so I guess I’m a little surprised that it’s a conditional sixth but really it’s a six and a four if he actually plays I don’t think it’s that that shocking and

I’m I I I guess I would start Fields over Russ for the sake of the upside because I don’t think Russ has a ton in the tank but I’m also not stunned that like yeah Russ didn’t sign there to be the back up the fields man so yeah

Right you can let him have a good old competition you know like I agree I agree you’re right you’re right I don’t know if I would be saying right now like there’s no way in hell that we start Justin Fields yeah over Russ no matter what uh you got to have a competition

And they will I I don’t know what the rumors are but if if Fields just like looks way better than Russ throughout training camp and like is lighting it up in the preseason and Russ is not it’s hard to believe that there wouldn’t be conversations like maybe Fields should start because

Fields I think did get railroaded a bit by the Bears and the way they built off their built out their offense especially with the 2022 Draft before they traded for DJ Moore uh it was a new coaching staff you know new GM you know Matt

Naggie was over he was free of that and they still didn’t get him any support outside of vus Jones in that year and that was pretty painful I think for for his development I think that that was a big nail in the coffin and yes they got DJ

Moore and that was great and then they got darell right so it got a little bit better but it was just a little bit you know too little too late season away from being a season away even though they made the Right Moves or they had

Some hits last year it still wasn’t up far yeah and I think Fields I I think that he could definitely be better than he showed in Chicago and somewhere else but I do think that he is slow going through his reads like I just don’t think that he processes information

Extremely quickly he’s got all the athleticism he’s got the arm you know he’s got he’s a big game hunter with downfield accuracy so he’s explosive and all that and we saw him you know if he can get that rushing magic back that he had at the end of 2022 when he was like

Ripping off 50 yarders every game like that’s huge too but I I don’t know I I always kind of I spec I was speculating a fourth I guess before it happened I think early in the process I was speculating maybe he would get a second

Or third but it it was a fourth was kind of what I thought they might get and then the conditional six could be a fourth if he plays so yeah it’s not the most shocking thing in the world and I think the Bears kind of had to do it I

Mean they didn’t have too much leverage they they’re going to take Caleb it’s the right move we’ve gone over and over it and um I don’t think having and Williams in the same quarterback room is a healthy option I mean just the second that Caleb would make a mistake that’d

Be called for Fields again and you’re going to spend the whole offseason with that drama and every reporter is going to ask that question rightfully so but you know that’s all you’re going to talk about screw that you know yeah look at how insane the Bears fan base is being

About I mean well they were being more insane these past few months than I think I’ve seen a fan base be in my time on as an analyst I mean the mere notion that they would select Caleb Williams was met with like disgust and like rejection and like what are you talking

About until PO says it like I don’t believe that it’s happening and it was just so obvious the entire time I’ve just never seen a fan base like reject a move that’s so clearly happening I think a lot of the it’s part of partially I don’t think it’s all

Bears fans for sure I think Fields being the Young quarterback that they’ve believed in for a long time like every fan base is ridiculous about their Young quarterback and then on top of that I think Caleb Williams maybe has a particular true a particularly High number of haters because like you know

He’s painted his nails and yada y y so I think all of those things combined and it’s just a weird situation that doesn’t happen that that often um true it might not all be Bears fans I had a I had a reply yesterday that was like I said bears

Fans lock in like I know you’re sad but you got to lock in you have Mo you have Keenan you have you have Williams it’s going to be good and then a reply was I just don’t like Caleb and then someone was like why not and like you should and

The replies to that guy and then he said well I’m not a Bears fan I just don’t like Caleb and it’s like this was a tweet about Bears fans like maybe it just is Caleb haters from other fan bases pretending to be Bears fans cuz that’s what that guy was doing this

Doesn’t even feel like I don’t even know if it’s necessarily that a lot of people are Caleb haters I feel like a lot of people that are Caleb Caleb haters are also May haters I haven’t I mean how many they’re like it’s it’s I don’t mean to interrupt you it’s the winning in

College is what it is it’s like the they’re overthinking this the traits it’s JJ McCarthy it’s that type of stuff and I’m not to call out MTH specifically but like how penx and and McCarthy and nicks were all although you know McCarthy whatever like how were they in

What I think it’s really about is they just are sick of starting over at the quarterback position and they just don’t want to do it again they think it means another timeline reset they mean they think it means we’re going to be bad again next year with a rookie we’re into

The unknown it seemed like we were starting to turn things around in the back half of last year and instead of continuing that momentum into something great we’re now blowing it up starting over and now we could go three and 14 again next year but I I don’t think

That’s going to happen because the rest of the the rest of the roster isn’t like leaving with Fields it’s just fields and a lot of the reason for the the turnaround last year was the defense like that was what was ranking so high not the not the offense of results which

Were pretty average in the in even the back half of last season so it it I think that’s the main catalst to like why these Bears fans were so enamored with the idea of keeping Fields is they just didn’t want start over no matter what and then you look at Caleb and they

Don’t like him and they’re like we’re starting over for this bis fake bisexual and uh you hear what I I saw some tweet the other day and I didn’t look into it almost at all but I just saw somebody being like you know the report I’ve heard teams are

Looking into some negative things about Caleb and then like no explanation of it at all and like oh I saw that I saw that too and then someone asked what the explanation was like are we ever going to hear what these bad things are and

Then I think it was um G gra Greg Gabriel the old bears like kudin former Scout or whatever and then he’s like no that’s personal it’ll never see the light of day and it’s like well what what are you talking about like what are these things that like what is my

Takeaway supposed to be was like well I like there are things conversation closed doors and there like what are the things how dare you ask what the things are like that’s personal like what I also know going on I I I go back to to you know I think a lot of the

Problem stems not only from starting over but wouldn’t it be cool if you already had the quarterback and then you could do something else with the first overall pick like that would just be better right and it’s like if you’ve already believed in fields this long it’s like

Man I wish it was like that but I don’t think they’re going to be starting over I I think honestly if you hit on a number one overall pick quarterback he’s probably going to be very good very soon especially if you surround him with real weapons from the jump

Which the the Bears have a chance to do I I mean really you could be one of the better first overall pick QB Landing spots in a while man I mean usually it’s like Lawrence was just a disaster year one and Bryce young was just a disaster

Year one I don’t see any reason why it should be like that I even if you don’t go and land like adun or neighbors with the nine getting any of those top guys and throwing in there and you’ve got the tackle last year you got DJ Moore Keenan Allen I think is a

Great pickup yeah got to talk about that the fourth round pick for Keenan there’s not too much to say I think um he’s gonna be a good compliment to DJ Moore I think those two skill sets are great next to each other looking at Keenan Allen versus Man versus Zone he’s

Much better versus Zone his EPA per Target is like double versus Zone and it just makes sense like he’s not a crazy athlete he’s not going to be running away from anybody at this point in his career he’s someone who wants to you know settle down and be on the same page

With Herbert and just exploit the open zones over and over and over again and then more is like substantially better running away from people like versus man like running these digs smoothly like catching and turning up field so I think I always think that you should get a wide receiving core that compliments

Each other as much as possible you don’t want redundance skill sets but so and the Bears just got that for a fourth if Keenan can stay healthy which is kind of a big question mark at this point in his career that’s the thing that could derail it I don’t see why as productive

As he was last year it can’t be a a very good Duo of of Kenan and DJ and Caleb and KT and we’ll see what they do with the center position because that’s a massive gigantic hole but yeah to go from an to go from class for Caleb

Williams to go from an offense that was you know we’ve talked about how out of structure it was and Theo I think it was you that said it felt like they don’t practice sometimes just because of how it lacked timing to now you’re going to

Be able to have DJ Moore and you can have Keenan Allen who might be one of the best you know timing threats in football and then you can have Cole Keda tight end I mean that I think that’s going to make Caleb Williams jump to the NFL very easy

Yeah I I I I think having the QB friendly guy is is big I think this is a really solid investment because now it feels like if you leave the draft without a wide receiver you’re okay you have multiple guys there it’s not just DJ and whatever you should still draft a

Guy I think you should still draft if it’s a Dunes a neighbors and you can make that move you didn’t invest so much that it feels kind of redundant that you’re you’re ignoring other positions also Allan last year 13 games 150 targets is insane man and that’s the thing and that makes

You question the other side of this trade which is not his fault not it’s not where are those targets gonna go man where hopefully Odun hopefully my boy Odun neighbors is okay as well but har the way things are an offensive lineman drafting an offensive lineman I think

Would be a I think you there’s you cannot leave this draft if you’re the Chargers not anymore you have to draft like multiple wide receivers in I think so I I think there there are I think there there are there’s no way I guess maybe it goes Marvin Harrison Jr Odun to the

Cardinals like and and they’re left with Neighbors which would be fine like and then you’d take neighbors but to me I have to me I have a blue chip grade I know our grades differ but I have a blue chip grade on on ad dun and and Marvin

Harrison Junior and it’s like I I just really think they should leave the draft with one of those two guys or it to me it will be I’ll be disappointed that’s that’s how I feel about it and I I understand trading Keen in a way even though he had all these targets

Because I think that this receiving core just needs a complete rebuild like from top to bottom and if Eden is going to be there he’s probably going to demand another he’s probably going to lead the team in targets and that might be better served going to a rookie uh so I I I

They saved so much money from moving on from him and and Mike Williams so I understand it I think that b rebuilding it from the ground up is going to be okay because they have the opportunity to draft someone special and they’re probably going to be leaning on their

Run game early under our ball right so I I don’t know though it’s like Greg Roman and that amount of talent it’s kind of screaming passing game disaster at the moment I don’t know if I think if you put her Herbert and Odun together it’ll be okay like I think

They’ll be really productive if you put Herbert and neighbors together even it would be very very productive right like I just I think anyone with Herbert is going to be good um so but it’s it’s pretty bleak the state of the Chargers these last couple years

And uh yeah yeah I mean they they have to recover from the mistakes of the they have to recover from the mistakes of the previous regime right similar to like not nearly to the same extent but similar to the Panthers where you are suffering currently from the sins of the

Past and like getting off of Keenan and Mike Williams is probably more so a move to free up cap for next free agency yeah exactly so that you can make those big splashes when you need to it’s and you just have to draft well this year yeah

The I I think it’s wise I think it’s wise in a vacuum not to hang on and pay those guys a bunch of money when honestly when this team will be competitive they will probably be aged out of being super super effective and you’ll have to anyway and it’s

Short-term pain but building things out not you know knowing it’s going to take a little while and and trusting the process a little bit is a good thing their dead cap is hilarious it is $50 million they are giving JC Jackson $20 million this year um but you got to do

What you got to do and honestly stacking up even it seems like but like trying to stack up like some day three picks and doing stuff like that and they’ve got extra Capital just give yourself a lot of swings and then and see what happens yeah when you’ve got an engine like

Herbert your swings have a much higher chance of working out as well you know that’s just is how it when you have Rogers you never need to spend a first round pick on a wide receiver you can spend them all on day two and and they become franchise Legends right like they

Just when you have that thing that is powering everything like you can plug in different pieces and they’re going to light up like I so yeah to get those later on draft picks I think drafting offense gives anybody a very good chance to succeed unless you take Quinton Johnston I guess

Um yeah but uh if you take someone good then they should be good you know so I I I don’t disagree I think that it was the right move from the Chargers I think they were a bit too Keenan was very good for them last year but they were just

Too Keen in independent and for the cost it’s it’s okay if another team becomes Keen independent next year because yeah it’s it’s time to move on it’s time to save cap and it’s time to rebuild so yeah for a charger point of view it’s sad that it’s gotten to this point where

You look at the depth chart and there’s like no one there and hopefully John Harbaugh knows what he’s doing and it’s not an urban Meer situation uh with Greg Roman and yeah we’ll see how bad they are I I don’t think they’re the Chargers are going to be very good next year but

Um I think they could be good two years from now and I think they could be fine next year if they I think they still could be fine but they’re not be contenders yeah they they before anything else yeah for anything else but uh speaking of teams with needing to hit

On their picks the Minnesota Vikings are trying to give themselves a very good shot to hit on some picks they traded up to have another first round pick sitting at 23 are they making a shot to get into the top 10 certainly appears that way unless they just love the number 23 overall

Pick and just half the draft chop Robinson there or something or no no no no no no it’s it’s it’s not that they love the number 23 overall pick it’s that they’re projecting that whoever they’re trading with will I guess the trade just doesn’t really make sense I’m

Sorry everyone looked at me like it was talking to me like I was crazy what is the point of doing this well they’re they’re trying to stack up draft Capital what did they trade to get the 23rd pick draft Capital yeah they lost a little value for the sake of trading up

Which is fine if you’re trading up for a reason I know this has been done before but I just do not think it makes sense like why would you not just trade what you gave up for the 23rd pick and then let whatever team you trade with if a

Trade does happen decide if they want to make the move that you just made I mean I guess the two first just sounds better but I don’t know maybe they talked to is that it I I don’t entirely disagree with you Matt so no no no no no no they talk

To the team that they’re going to trade with and the trade is for sure going to happen but they haven’t actually made the move yet and also whatever team that they’re talking with couldn’t do it themselves no the Vikings have to go make that deal and

Then and then they can move it to them instead of the other way around like like it’s just a little goofy you know I don’t know the inner workings of it but like I know in the in all the trade value calculator charts it seems like the Texans gained

More in draft value by the equivalent of about anywhere ranging from a third to like a fifth round pick in the projections that I saw right it’s not a ton but it’s just like for the sake of being like we can give you an extra first rounder and that sounds good it’s

Like I maybe maybe they’re right maybe the Vikings are right but I just think it’s silly if other teams are looking at the same trade value charts that Twitter has with you know Spielberger and Ben Baldwin and you know all these all these analytics guys they would say

I’d rather have the pics you gave to the Texans than the Texans pick yeah you know who else the Texans the Texans are literally like you’re wrong by the way the pick we just gave you is worth less this isn’t a draft night trade where it’s like here’s a certain guy that we

Want yeah this is months out dude the Texans are literally saying like this if we were in the shoes of the team that you were trying to trade with we’d rather have what you just gave us versus that 23d pick yeah so it it doesn’t pass the initial Common Sense test where it’s

Like the Vikings downgraded in draft value to go move up it’s like didn’t you already have those exact yes they did I I know it’s like I’m sure somewhere it’s like maybe the GM of of whoever the commanders or the Patriots just likes the sound of the

First and they do prefer it and it is what the Vikings everybody’s board is different so maybe if they then they’re dumb I think then they’re a little silly I think or maybe it’s all board-based who Eagles trade with who did the Eagles trade with to move up for Wentz I can’t

Remember at all they the Titans had the number one overall pick and then and then it was I don’t remember yeah look it up but um I don’t know I guess every GM is different and their board Falls different maybe they don’t want to move too far back where they’re like moving

From number four to like number 40 I don’t know but I guess they’d get number 11 hypothetically maybe the Vikings want to hold on to their first next year and if they have to give up two first to move that’s what that’s what I would think but it’s still that is like still

Just kind of silly to like no matter how you look at it it’s a little silly I think I think that it is yeah well it has to be too it can’t be the equivalent with other picks you know it’s got to be it’s got to be the first actual first

And we’re not making that trade and otherwise we’re maybe they just want someone at 23 maybe they don’t want to trade up at all and we’re all over awesome like they and they stick at 23 so the Eagles traded up from pick 13 to pick eight with the dolphins and then

They traded up from pick eight to pick two with the brown did that happen on draft night no it happened before I remember sitting in class when that move dropped it was not a draft and the second trade was with Cleveland so that trade being dumb by the receiver team

That checks out Matt who did this is the 2016 Cleveland Browns that checks who did they take with the eighth overall pick I Gilbert that was Gilbert right it may have been Gilbert was that I feel Gilbert was a little bit earlier than that though I think Gilbert was long ago

2016 was a long time ago I but I think that Gilbert was even it doesn’t matters it it matters oh did did the Browns trade out of that pick too yes and then that was was that no that wasn’t Coleman it was Coleman it was Coleman my brown took Coleman at

15 fair enough yeah the Browns traded back to 15 again after that that was with they traded back with the Titans so Theo you’re right the Titans were involved with that the Titans took Jack Conlin and then the Browns took Corey Coleman right yeah all that is to say yeah

Yeah all that is to say um I I I I mean I guess like if if the Vikings are trading up for Drake May who cares oh like Who who okay who gives I’m being annoying about it fair enough like who cares at the end of the day and if

This is what they need to do go for it if they’re trading up for anybody other than May that’s how I feel and and I and I still feel like I’m a little dubious that may is going to beat traded for a bow like I understand that Daniels is

Going to be the number two overall pick in all the betting markets like the commanders love them or whatever he’s going to be the pick we I’m just missing something um sure whatever but like why would New England not take him at number three I guess maybe maybe it’s not

Unfathomable that if Washington has a lower grade on May the Patriots could too and would rather trade back or take Marvin if if that’s the only way that I can think of this playing out is because Washington is certainly not just going to trade out

Of two and just go like no QB but maybe maybe it’s like to a point where maybe it’s to a point where the Patriots think the gap between pinck and may is not big enough for something like that and then the 203d pick is for the Patriots so they like

Have a pick they feel secure with getting pinck with whereas like at 34 Maybe gets a little bit more up in the air at 23 it feels like a little bit better of a lock plus you have the fifth year option which you’d want if you’re taking a quarterback that high I don’t
